This is an absolute sensational video. Thank you so much for putting this together! Both setups are great options, so much better than the heavy stock system 🤘
I’m trying to figure out the same thing. There are 3, different AA mid-pipes: single mid-pipe, equal length and an X-pipe… trying to figure out the difference between them. How do you like your equal length?
I think comparing it to the AA EL is unfair since the Valvetronic more closely identifies with AA's Single Midpipe. The AA EL creates an entirely different sound that is much higher pitched and louder on WOT. WIth that being said, AA EL still wins this one all day.
Unfair to compare two equal length mid pipes?? Their mid pipes and don't identify as anything my man. 😉 I agree with you that the AA EL is louder on WOT and is a fantastic choice. If that is the sound you want. The great news is that both offer different sounds, different price points and ultimately more choices for us "Carguys"
@@vavrespaddr7290 Regardless of single or dual they are both the only Equal Length mid pipes available and are two of the most popular options for the M3. The point of the video is to highlight the different tones between the two.
This is crazy. I have a X3M and G87 M2. Same engine, both have DPs and equal length midpipe. The X3M has one of the first AA ELs they made and sounds just like the beginning of the video just with a bit more rasp. The G87 has the Valvtronic EL midpipe and sounds just like yours at the end lol. I seriously thought I blew my muffler out or something was vibrating on the frame. Think I’ll be ditching the AA on the X3M. My G87 sounds soooo much better
I agree 💯…The Valvetronic EL mid pipe offers a much cleaner and smoother sound over the AA EL. I didn’t have DP’s but did end up using the Valvetronic rear section with the AA EL midpipe and that might have been my favorite set up
Do you have the link for the active auto midpipe ? I’m looking to add I like the sound of the active more. Is it just the Midpipe with everything else OEM on the exhaust system set up you had in the beginning of the video? Thanks
Here ya go… x-ph.com/active-autowerke-g80-g82-m3-m4-equal-length-mid-pipe-with-g-brace/ That’s correct everything else was stock downpipes, rear section etc. I did have a Carbahn Valve controller but you can see the clips where the valves are not fully opened and is using the OEM valve function.
@@carguy302 thank you for replying Do I need the controller to get the same sound or will just the midpipe and the OEM valve controls still give me the same effect? Thank you
Thank you so much for making and sharing this video! I was undecided on buying single vs. dual, and personally, I like the sound of single more. Quick question, I assume you are using a valve controller to fully open the exhaust. When you say OEM valve function are you disabling the valve controller? I thought using a valve controller meant it disabled the OEM functions completely. I'm new to the G80 family lol.
You’re welcome! 😎 Appreciate you checking the channel out. The valve controller has two buttons on the remote. One button opens the valves 100% and the other reverts to OEM function. The valves are never open 100% with the oem button.
Hey CarGuy awesome video they both sound awesome, Im leaning towards the AA EL, does it remove the rasp of the g80s and how does it compare to valvetronic?
Thanks brotha! The Valvetronics is a smoother tone and more subdued vs the AA EL. The EL mid pipe sounds exotic, has a higher pitch and not raspy in my opinion. Can't go wrong with either
I am waffling back and forth between the AA EL midpipe and the Valvetronic EL midpipe for my G80 Comp X-Drive. For now, I am planning on keeping everything else stock except adding an SST valve controller. I've ran your video back too many times and am hoping to get your take. I feel like the Valvetronic sounds smoother, more mellow and deeper...maybe closer to the straight up S58 sound? The AA sounds more wild and exotic with more midrange but from the video I feel like it sounds like it's lacking bass when compared to the Valvetronic. I am also wondering if the burbles might be a little over the top in quantity but maybe that's just from revving towards redline. Could you share your take now that you've had both and had some time to consider both options? What would you do in my situation?
You’re correct in your observation. The Valvetronics mid pipe does offer a more mellow & deeper tone while the AA EL mid pipe offers the more wild & exotic sound. For me the AA EL Midpipe provided the sound I was looking for. Especially on up & downshifts. To me it sounded like a true M car. Beware…Cold starts with the valves 100% open with the AA EL midpipe are brutal. Very loud and borderline obnoxious. After the cold start it sounds great. The Valvetronics is a solid choice and is smooth sounding and not over the top. You can’t go wrong with either one. I swapped back and forth and my favorite was the AA EL Mid pipe.
Hi! Question, I’m getting delivery of my 2024 G80 XDrive, within 1 month. My question is, what do I got to buy to get the exact setup for the Active Autowerkes equal length mid pipe with the valve covers and control as well
I'm not sure if it will bolt up to the M Performance exhaust. It should if the cut points are the same. I've seen other people on Bimmerpost that paired them together.
That depends on what mods I have and my power goals. If I went max effort I would run cat less downpipes and most brands are similar. If I went with catted downpipes then I’d definitely choose a brand that offers Gesi cats. (Active Auto)

Definitely two different approaches to create an equal length mid pipe. One is a single and other is a dual. The main thing is that they both equalize the length of the exhaust in both banks to get a smoother sound
