"Why is there a Police box in your room?" "It's my wardrobe." "What are you doing?" "Rewireing." "Why would you need to rewire a wardrobe?" "Have you seen the way I dress?"
Patrick Christopherson, actually _’The Unquiet Dead’_ takes place on Christmas Eve 1869, whilst the next episode _’Aliens of London’_ places _’Rose’_ in March of 2005, and that two parter in around March 2006.
One of the best moments in all of TV ever. Followed closely by, for me, his later, double-meaning, "When the wind stands fair and the night is perfect, when you least expect it but always when you need it the most, there is a song.”
Out of every special, 11 visiting Amy and Rory broke my heart the most. And then it threw the broken pieces into a wood chipper. For the first time potentially since Gallifrey fell The Doctor had a family, a real family. Sure he had loved Rose, but Amy and Rory were family. He allows himself to be vulnerable around them, and when they were sent back in time in Manhattan he was TRULY shattered. In that scene when Amy makes the comment about always having a spot set for him he realizes that no matter how long he was gone, they would always be expecting him and would always be there with open arms. For a short period he had a home that wasn't the TARDIS and he's happy. And seeing him happy but knowing he's about to lose Amy and Rory is just so emotional. Moffat was both a master and a monster with this show, not to mention the acting Matt, Karen, and Arthur put into the scene, it was all around a pure and heart touching (and breaking) moment.
Since the Ninth Doctor is the only new series Doctor (apart from 13) not to have a Christmas special I feel that _The Unquiet Dead_ is the closest thing he’s got to one (it’s set on Christmas Eve in 1869).
This was a good story. Took the Dickensian tale and gave it a sci fi twist. We could have done without Amy and Rory, and just making it a standalone Doctor ep
I was captivated when I saw it for the first time. Poignant how the rich, callow youth grows old (but no wiser), while his poor-but-angelic blonde love remains young. BBC has been so damned creative with these things -- who'd believe there could still be a fresh take on the Dickens tale, which has been 200+ times retold in all media? . My second favorite here is the Santa-and-elves one -- a self-consciously comedic farce, but with a lesson to teach; reminds me of A Midsummer Night's Dream in this respect. Great lines and great acting, too, by the pint-sized supporting cast, which the Beeb's directors usually manage to elicit.

It was decent. A lot of it felt like empty exposition. I also didn't like how the Doctor just let a whole ship die. You know I think people aren't sad enough that Murray Gold isn't composing music for Doctor Who anymore. He was one of the biggest reasons each and every episode and every Christmas was as memorable as it was. I think he is the person I miss most. I can deal with new doctors and new companions but the one constant that was there from the beginning was Murray and he is the thing that held it all together for me. I'm going to miss the orchestral wonders that him and Ben Foster dreamed up for the show and I hope one day he shall come back. Yes...one day...he will come back.

In one of the Christmas specials the Doctor cooks a turkey using the TARDIS. In real life I recommend a rotisserie, a barbecue oven, a halogen oven or an electric fan oven, all work better than a gas oven.🍗🦃🎄🎅😋
Usually I would wait, I really would, but *hahaha* that first one!!! So charming, and I love that Rose just sort of knows how to work the Doctor. Sonic in hand, request for help, imminent doom; it'd take a lot more than being in a coma to stop him. That's really what defines The Doctor as a whole, that willingness to help no matter what, and being able to activate it in the most dire of circumstances is what really makes a good companion. By that metric, I don't think we've had a bad one yet in NuWho. Heck, Martha walked the apocalypse for a year just to pull this off, despite The Doctor essentially having been crippled and imprisoned, Donna literally became the Doctor, Amy understood it by her very first spacetime adventure on Starship UK, Clara knew how to do it without any memories and only one word, River did it so well that even she couldn't believe it, Bill would rather kill "the doctor" than accept anything less, and the Fam... haven't really had to yet. We'll see how that goes... Oh, and the Subwave Network, showing that even Harriet was a damn good companion, which I'm happy with. Also, nice bookends. Ten dies doing near enough the same thing. He didn't want to go, but he was never gonna go any other way.

"Every Christmas is Last Christmas". I'll 'fess up: I love Jenna. But there are a few I miss here: Katherine Jenkins singing, and Kylie Minogue not singing but giving a fine performance nonetheless. Billie Piper's smile. Catherine Tate's craziness. "The Snowmen", "it's smaller on the outside", and the last tear that saves the world. And "Everything ends, and it's always sad. But things begin again, and that's always happy. Be happy. I'll look after the rest". I have them all on disc and plan to binge them this week. Happy Christmas.
