Riversong was one of the most interesting characters in television only doctor who could pull something like a backwards timeline off and to think they had it all planned out back in season 4
+Zaphod “Memelord” Beeblebrox They didn't have it planned out. Moffat actively chose to give Amy the last name Pond to use the already existing character.
@@PrincessofEllabur Nope, because that's not how recurring characters work. Even if a character atomized the second they appeared in screen every instance of them shown on the show after that counts as them "recurring".
I loved the concept and the complexity of the story, but I thought Alex Kingston was wrong for the part. Her personality and the Doctor’s shouldn’t really get on, since he hates guns and people knowing more about something than he does.
That was rivers personality though...she was a psychopathic murderer, how do you expect her to act? Alex was great for the part, she made her performance believable.
literally who dislikes river song. also the doctor doesnt hate guns, thats more of a front, he just hates what hes capable of doing with a gun, he HAS been a war hero after all. Its why he prefers talking, because even without a gun he can do so much damage.
Actually in the right order (of her timeline, not the episodes) her last words were “goodbye sweetie” when she came back as a ghost after she had already died in the library
@@myrrthes Personally I would not count that. I think the original comment, and how I'd like to see it, would be River's first and last words to the Doctor. But now since I know her last words as a 'ghost' are "Goodbye Sweetie" and her first are "Hello Sweetie"... I'm unsure if I want to have the true first and last words or the first and last words River said to the doctor as the answer. Both are so sweet and heartbreaking. The true words are backwards for the Doctor's timeline with her, which makes it fucking sad, but her last words to the Doctor makes it like a last-ditch effort to laugh off her inevitable fate- holy shit I can't stop rambling no idea where I was going with this, Doctor Who is a sad ass series in general.
River's life is so confusing. As she gets older and her future grows, the Doctor gets younger and his future hasn't even quite begun. Quite honestly, I think her life is the most intricately written story ever. It was planned YEARS before her real adventure even began. It was planned YEARS before the next Doctor regenerated. Years and years of actually character planning to create just a single story! It just shows how much attention to detail and correct storylines and time travel/time lines the writers can actually comprehend and construct. That's on of my favorite things from the show, because everything connects so well in the end that you basically slap yourself for not knowing it sooner. Throws you for a loop, but a hell of a good one!
Really? I find that view hard to swallow. It was so detailed. So many tiny details woven in so far in advance that when yo go back and watch it again it's quite insane how much clear planning went into it.
The first time when you see River dying in that episode on the 4th season you think: "oh that is sad." And when you finally know her whole story and you watch that episode again you think:"oh nooooo why. This is realy realy saaad. God noo!!"
Sophie Prinz IKR! I want to cry hard... >.< I wish at the final episode (the 13th doctor; current and last) would revive her (Probably can't sadly...) or even better, go with her... THAT WOULD BE THE BEST DOCTOR WHO ENDING EVER!
One thing River Sing didn't know was that as she aged the video quality would change from 1080 to standard definition. Now that's a real Doctor Who paradox.
Actually she says at her second regeneration that she would run her aging process backward "just to freak people out" ....that's script attention to detail to cover plot-cracks!
"...The day’s coming when I’ll look into that man’s eyes-my Doctor-and he won’t have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it’s going to kill me..." (River Song, The Impossible Astronaut)
River Song was the most amazing thing that could have ever happened to this show. When you watch her whole story laid out in front of you like this, it makes you have those "oh yeah I remember that!" moments. It was confusing, seeing some of her past and some of her future completely out of order, but in the end, it all makes sense, and it's the most amazing thing. This show is great in so many ways, but so much effort was put into the River Song story, and I think it was the most great thing about Doctor Who.
This is so horribly heartbreaking when you see it from her perspective....but so beautiful at the same time. For me Doctor Who is right up there with Harry Potter as some of the most incredible fiction I've ever come across because of characters and and stories like this. And really, this is just a background detail compared to the rest of the show. Completely and utterly beautiful.
Ah okay, that makes sense. When I realized River was Amy and Rory's daughter, I completely forgot about that little girl in New York, so it confused me how the baby went from her to Mels.
+Theawesomegamer samfred The 10th Doctor is the 11th regeneration and the 10th face to call himself "The Doctor". The War Doctor is the 9th regeneration of the Doctor but is not the Doctor because he denounced that title.
+Blaze Flames (Knight of Heart) Well if she's a Timelord then she's blonde because their species genetics work differently than ours. If Timelords can change their face and every cell in their body it probably means their children NEVER end up looking like them. There would be no purpose for it. Because if the parent is dying and begins to regenerate, the child can't do the same. And if the child can't pick a face to resemble it's parents, then what the point in looking like them to begin with?
I usually don't like the doctor being romantic but I was crazy about River Song and in this case it worked. She's awesome , they're awesome and Matt Smith and Alex Kingston pulled it off brilliantly.
This put everything about River Song into a perspective that's often hard to understand to understand on the show, but now I see how tragic her life is. Imagine growing more in love with a person only for them to slowly not know you. Not to mention, her calm character. She doesn't fear what going to happen in the early episodes because she's already lived everything. She knows everything will work as long as she is by his side. My god, I love RIVER SONG!!
Holy shit. Watching this in the correct order makes the library scene ten times more emotional. ESPECIALLY when you remember that the christmas special happened right before that episode.
The Angels Take Manhattan is missing. From what I can tell, it happens just before River's last meeting with the Doctor for her. Their timelines are mostly synced up at that point, except for River not having done the library yet, obviously.
A though: The Doctor technically still hasn't told River his name yet. He said he did, but he lied about that and just said "look into my eyes". He also hasn't given her the sonic screwdriver. Knowing Moffat, if he can get Alex Kingston back he definitely will because he never leaves things like that open. Summary of that comment: River has to come back because The Doctor hasn't told her his name yet or given her the sonic.
"Crash of the byzantium, have we done that?" I hate that line because surely she noticed that the Tenth Doctor is definitely NOT the same one as the one in the Crash of the Byzantium.
julia0315 Yup,I agree, also, she talked to Donna about how she knows her and what will happen to her, if River knew Donna was from his past, why would she think Ten is a future Doctor?
One thing everyone seems to have completely missed is, River is missing a Regeneration. Her first Regeneration was in 1969, Amy was born in 1989 and River didn't start growing up with Amy until she met her at school. She didn't obtain the Vortex Manipulator from Dorium until she was River. Which means there's a missing 25 years between 1969 and 1994, where she had to have regenerated one other time; otherwise, she would've been an adult in her Early 30's when she first met Amy.
+Domihork there isn't any logic in dr who, to be honest the same came be apply to rose's dad episode or the fact that melody name. For a science fiction show sometime the show lack scientific facts to gain the viewers and create complex characters.

It is a clever loop. The Eleventh Doctor had to figure out a way to save River Song. The Twelfth Doctor gave her the screwdriver. The Tenth Doctor saved her with it after seeing her die.
It's not, there's a mini episode where Matt's Doctor and River try to go on a date to see the singing towers, and he does have a suit, but they never actually go there. It was Capaldi who takes her to Darillium and gives her a screwdriver that would Tennant's Doctor use to save her.
i cried rewatching silence of the library and forest of the dead oh my god river’s story arc is one of the most intricate of all in the whoniverse and it just gets me every time
I love that The Angels Take Manhattan, The Husbands of River Song and The Name of The Doctor give River back some happiness, where the Doctor finally knows her as much as she knows him 😊😊

Always thinking about the next meeting with the love of your life knowing that he will always know you less than he did before. And a day will come when he won't even know who you are...
The events in Husbands of River Song makes it better, though. I mean, still as heartwrenching, but she gets time with him when they both know each other equally.
It WOULD be nice, but since they, um, _borrowed_ it from the BBC through the DVD extra it came from, I doubt they know how to add any more parts onto it. 😄 They should just be thankful the BBC hasn't said cease and desist and had it yanked off here. As should we, for that matter, LOL!

After I watched all of the episodes with River in them I went back and watched the silence of the library, and I cried. I didn't cry when I first watched it....😢
when the part of her saying she good with a gun, give whole new meaning to Silence falls" now doesn't it.... i forgot she killed lots of them in that episode.
Aleah Ray I think she doesn't because the doctors future is her past so that means she doesn't exist yet or maybe I'm wrong because you know timey wimey.
I have been avoiding watching this video because I knew it would tear me apart emotionally. Why I chose to watch it at 2:30pm at work, I have no idea. At least I'm the only one in the office today. Thank you for doing this. It all makes much more sense to me now.
Another temporal perspective: The last words the Doctor speaks to River Song are unknown, being more than two decades after they first had Christmas dinner on Darillium, and before the events of "Doctor Mysterio." I like to think that he finally confessed his #love for her. .
Where is this audio of River explaining her timeline from? I've never heard this in any episode or mini-episode as far as I can remember. Or was this an extra on a DVD, I'm really not sure...

I love this. River is one of my favorite characters, I absolutely love her, but he story has always been kinda odd to me cause I couldn't make out what part of her life went where. Seeing the story in her timeline helps with that. Awesome.
when you realise from rivers perspective her husband is slowly becoming senile as he ages and forgets everything about her while becoming more mistrusting of her :O
7:35 One thing bothered me about this scene and River swinging around in a circle like that and shooting the Silence dudes. If she's spinning around how could she remember where the Silence dudes were that were behind her?
This video needs to be updated with River's encounter with Capaldi's Doctor and the 24 year one night at the Singing Towers of Darillium before meeting her ending at the Library with David Tennent.
I didn't cry when i first met river song but now after knowing what I know I am. The writers of this show have beautiful minds. To write forwards and in reverse at the same time. They must have had it planned from the beginning. Just like Clara Oswald and her random but not random appearances. So to any fans out there Weep in reverse and take joy in full forward motion.
Noooooo, River! D,= Can you imagine living your life in the opposite order of the man you love? Knowing every time you see him he know and loves you less and less until one day he doesn't recognize you at all...
Russle t Davis ( sorry if I spelt his name Rong ) left gaps for the next writers to fill in ..... That's so clever ....... Like crash of the bizantium (if that's spelt write I will be surprised ) that's a good episode
The first ever episode I saw of Doctor who was "Silence in the library" and I'm so thankful for that. I saw one of the best episodes by complete coincidence.
So I'm an idiot and never realized that she was the little girl in the space suit. And I just re watch those episodes. I'm feel ashamed of myself right now.
I've been looking for something like this. It helps with putting the series together. Now I know where moffat is going. Thanks for uploading this now I can show moffat hater that he does tie things together ( a cluster fuck in a way) but yup.
There was a "Timeline" video on TH-cam once (since been deleted) that included much, well, better footage (in my opinion) than this. It included bits from the Name of the Doctor, and also video from the Webisodes (again, mostly deleted), including First Night and Last Night - incredible moments from Matt Smith and Alex Kingston that we may never see again. This one is well done, but not nearly the "passion and feels" that the other video had.

+bimer2000 I think he is talking about River itself, her story and everything were planned long ago, and Moffat managed it perfectly.
And it lasted 5 WHOLE SERIES'. I mean come on. Only Moffat could do something like that.
they had to have been planning in season 3 about a character that confused everybody until they watched it a second time

The most important questions......
Is Jenny a timelord or not and Is she EVER coming back?
Here's a better question:
How is she even blonde? The 10th Doctor was brown haired, and he is the mother+father of Jenny. Also the blue eyes.
+Blaze Flames (Knight of Heart)
Well if she's a Timelord then she's blonde because their species genetics work differently than ours. Because if the parent is dying and begins to regenerate, the child can't do the same. After I watched all of the episodes with River in them I went back and watched the silence of the library, and I cried. I didn't cry when I first watched it....😢
This has got to be updated for The Husbands of River Song
This is so amazing and so moving. I just can't even
when the part of her saying she good with a gun, give whole new meaning to Silence falls" now doesn't it.... i forgot she killed lots of them in that episode.
River song's timeline is both the most exciting, interesting, and heartbreaking storyline of all time
River song is by far the sexiest woman on this show.
Every time I watch this it shatters my heart! Thank you for posting this! I love it!
I hope she shows up in the new seson this fall
Yea
thx u :)
Aleah Ray I think she doesn't because the doctors future is her past so that means she doesn't exist yet or maybe I'm wrong because you know timey wimey.
Yeah but caplidi is the doctor now and she knew matt smiths doctor and Peter caplidi was after Matt smith so....yeah your right timy wimy
*timey wimey
I have been avoiding watching this video because I knew it would tear me apart emotionally. Why I chose to watch it at 2:30pm at work, I have no idea. At least I'm the only one in the office today. Thank you for doing this. It all makes much more sense to me now.
Another temporal perspective: The last words the Doctor speaks to River Song are unknown, being more than two decades after they first had Christmas dinner on Darillium, and before the events of "Doctor Mysterio."
I like to think that he finally confessed his #love for her.
.
Such a wonderful clarification of a perplexing, timey-wimey relationship!
Where is this audio of River explaining her timeline from?
I've never heard this in any episode or mini-episode as far as I can remember. Or was this an extra on a DVD, I'm really not sure...
I'd like to know that, too.
It's in the doctor who confidentials
Thank you so much for letting us know. Highly appreciate it.
ugh, thanks for the feels trip! I freakin' love River so much =(
1:35 aaaand there's Karen Gillan dressed as a schoolgirl.
Well, that's all the internet I need for the day. No calls.
Jayfive276 haha....naughty boy. good laugh

One search. Done.
+Taaketa Dinloka too much internet today.
+Taaketa Dinloka 2 MUCH INTER WEBZ O_O
I'ver met Karen Gillan.
The feels! Made me tear! I love river song! Amazing video
Oh, blimey, well... That... explains a lot.
Really going to miss River Song. There has been no one like her before.
i feel so feels.
I love this. River is one of my favorite characters, I absolutely love her, but he story has always been kinda odd to me cause I couldn't make out what part of her life went where. Seeing the story in her timeline helps with that. Awesome.
You cut off the last ten seconds of the video!
River says at the end "... because just sometimes everybody lives." and you cut it off.
I think that's the point
omfg this is perfect, I swear with how confusing River Songs time line this just made my day...
when you realise from rivers perspective her husband is slowly becoming senile as he ages and forgets everything about her while becoming more mistrusting of her :O
Y'know, I watch these vids, but I always forget about the Silence until they show up. What a ruddy villain.
"did i mention i was kickass with a gun" lol
The cries of joy and misery... I miss you River Song!
I got a doctor who ad lol
+Ssj Gohan When i get Doctor Who adverts it makes me so happy :D
Me too
Whoever made this video thank you! This was awesome.
LOL, thank the BBC, then. It was an extra on their DVD set. 😉
7:35 One thing bothered me about this scene and River swinging around in a circle like that and shooting the Silence dudes. If she's spinning around how could she remember where the Silence dudes were that were behind her?
Dustin Platt she saw that video with the silence telling about kill them too
i need to watch this atleast five times to clearly get her timeline in my mind because she is complicated and it's beautiful
Aww this is missing the Capaldi stuff
This video needs to be updated with River's encounter with Capaldi's Doctor and the 24 year one night at the Singing Towers of Darillium before meeting her ending at the Library with David Tennent.
River Song est l'un des personnages qui me manque le plus ! J'espère vraiment qu'elle reviendra...
Beautiful, just beautiful, and so sad..........
that man, that impossible man...
River: "Who's River Song?"
Doctor: "Uh...Spoilers"
Noooooo, River!
D,=
Can you imagine living your life in the opposite order of the man you love? Knowing every time you see him he know and loves you less and less until one day he doesn't recognize you at all...
The Christmas episode 'Husbands of River Song' does tie a nice bow around the whole thing, and I thought it finished up the storyline nicely.
Russle t Davis ( sorry if I spelt his name Rong ) left gaps for the next writers to fill in ..... That's so clever ....... Like crash of the bizantium (if that's spelt write I will be surprised ) that's a good episode
Your the best
At make up
DoctorWhoTARDIS Um, River was created by Moffat...
Sorry but it was Steven Moffat who wrote Silence In the Library and created River Song
FAILED YEAH thanks for correcting me lol +goku43651
One of the best tv story arcs of all time
8:37 - It wasn't her last kiss. I'm assuming they kissed at least once in those 24 years in Darillium.
Saleha Hussain this was released way before that ep with the 12th Doctor happened
This made me tear up. Seeing it in this order makers Rivers first appearance so much more tragic.
There is missing the last DW episode ( for now), and those episodes where she was seen by Clara.
So sad
Walking WhoLock We got a rookie over here. Give him a hug.
+PotterFangirl2242 That's alright, your primary loyalty is to potter, after all ;)
WAIT WHAT
I've been looking for something like this.
"Did I mention I was kickass with a gun?"
Not nearly enough, River. Not nearly enough.
Turned on subtitles, apparently Rory’s name is wory Pond
I just love her
