Awful, awful episode, tragic waste of Troughton and Hines. Nothing more than a propaganda piece for the veggie brigade. Jacqueline Pearce was much better as Servalan in Blake's 7
Of the Original Doctor Who, Tom Baker was my all time favorite. I cried like a child when he first spoke in that scene with Matt's Doctor. I knew instantly who it was. I was SO happy, what a moment.
The same here. Tom Baker made me a Whovian. We had moved to a new state and the closest antenna broadcast of PBS had Dr. Who on the weekends. This was 1982. So I'd adjust my ariels and watch on a 13" black & white Phillips TV.
@@nitehork2796 Figured I'd jump in, Big Finish IS an audiodrama company. They have a few boxsets of John Hurt as the Doctor and, when he passed, they started doing stories about the War Doctor in his early days with an actor called Johnathon Carley.
When I heard Tom Baker's distinct voice, oh man the memories that came flooding back in the theater as I was watching. Yep, tears. Especially after he didn't appear in the 5 Doctors
Did you know Tom Baker had an interesting part in Canterbury Tales, 1972 version I think. Standing naked washing himself in a tub while 2 old ladies watched through a keyhole.

@ALEXANDERATTACK not conceived during dr who, lol, she got into the show then. Who has sex whilst watching the doctor? On second thoughts, please don't answer that.
At around 9:30 when the 4th Doctor arrives, people keep thinking he's also a later regeneration. However when he says perhaps I was you a minute later it was a line used by the 6th Doctor to explain himself to past companion Jamie in the episode the 2 Doctors. I... know too much.
@@jarrarwinks8470 with 10 being 14? I know. But I also think that was by design. Neil Patrick Harris is playing the Celestial Toymaker. The first thing he noticed was the teeth. Like when 10. I think this is 10 reborn for the Celestial Toymaker to play with.
I never fully seen Tom Baker as The Doctor, but the little I've seen of him here shows me why he deserves to be among this group. Damn, he's such a good actor.
If you can cope with the pace (do your best not to binge because serial shows are hard to watch like that), 4th doctor is amazing. Also recommend 7th doctor because an ungodly amount of lore from nuwho is because of things he did.
Been a Fan since the 4th Doctor, original series (Tom Baker). When I heard his voice in 'Day of the Doctor' I just about cried. It was so good seeing the 4th Doctor again. Between that one and seeing Sarah Jane Smith again in 'School Reunion' was a JOY, especially when Sarah found the TARDIS and realized that David Tennant was The Doctor.

That is the funniest line in that Christmas special. And I also love the way they insult each other but they are really insulting themselves LOL
The Christmas Truce in WW1 is genuinely one of the most beautiful moments in recorded history. Everyone put aside their differences and enjoyed the holiday, in the middle of one of the most brutal and costly wars in our history. It's enough to move a man to tears
@tristanridley1601 Yeah but that was more down to the higher-ups being mad that the truce happened at all, they were famously furious about it on both sides
'I'm going home, the long way round', always makes me feel emotional, as that was something our family used to say after a day out, so the Doc is right, it's where we've all been going. Thanks for letting us join the journey Doctor.
What I learned from the Five doctors: Second doctor visiting Brigadier is one of the aspect of near regenerating doctor. In SJA, 11th doctor said that he visit all of his companions, and proud to all of them, before his regeneration. Various media stated that before Second doctor changes, he has gotten into a few adventures before regeneration takes place.
I love that the giggle wraps up the loose ends of the museum episode, both with 10 not wanting to go (so he doesnt) and the curator being a retired doctor (14 after 15 takes over)
Separate Doctors in their own special episodes, all with the Celestial Toymaker, implying he’s messing with the Doctor’s past, culminating with the actual 60th where the 14th Doctor stops the Toymaker and saves his former selves. 👍🏻 #DoctorWho
I'd be cool with that, so far ut just being a 10th doctor RTD special is just disappointing and annoying. I'd love to see the 8th doctor, maybe with Charlie or lucie as their companion (celebrating the franchise in other mediums like audio), 7 and ace, 6 and Perry, 5 and adric, 4 and romana or leela. Even three specials, 10, 8 and a classic doctor would be great.

I doubt it, the only era the 60th seems to want to celebrate is the RTD era. Still hoping for multiple specials with multiple doctors from different eras, like an 8th doctor story and some classic doctors.
@@DigitalCrate I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't an anniversary special, as anniversary specials are meant to celebrate the whole show not just one small era of the show. Of it was part of the anniversary and we get separate specials with other doctors I wouldn't mind it but anniversary just focusing in the returning showrunner's era just doesn't work for me, it feels more like the anniversary got highjacked by one showrunner who wants to relive solely their greatest hits at the expanse of the rest of the shows history. Not to mention it's probably the last time that we can have several of the remaining classic doctors appear, so I'll just be watching and thinking about how with two anniversary specials with new who and both of them completely wasted the opportunity to use any of the classic era doctors while they could, so much wasted potential because the showrunner wanted to do a greatest hits of his own era instead. If anything I'm viewing 13's last episode more as the anniversary because it actually seems to be more like an anniversary special and celebrating different eras of the show with companions from various eras returning not just one.
I know it's so kind of impossible but 4/5/6/7/8/12 are getting up there in age & we need them back more than most. Some of those have an age/physical improbability that creates difficulties to really shoot an entire episode but just let us have a brief taste of these men because they might not all be around for the 70th anniversary.
That's why if the 60th is just an RTD 10th doctor special it will disappoint me. I'd at least like one classic doctor, 8 (cause he needs more screen time) and if it must be 10 then 10 or another new who doctor, like 12.
4 would need to have a sitting down role like he did in Dimensions in Time as Tom Baker struggles to move now. Other than that there really aren't many difficulties.
There was a rumor that 5 6 & 7 might briefly appear in the centenary special this year, considering they were all seen staying near filming locations earlier this year IDK how truthful it is but we can dream.
As brilliant as some of these specials and stories are, the five doctors took the brief and smashed it out of the park. Perfect balance of story, “doctor-ness” and character building.
Till this day, The Three doctors is my favorite special. It was the first I saw with multiple doctor during the pandemic, and really I feel the nostalgia for all that nights watching classic Doctor who
I remember when I was little and I used to watch this show with my dad. We both knew very little about it but after our first episode we became absolutely OBSESSED. So much so that when my youngest sister was born we named her rose, the first companion we saw in the show (we started with the 9th doctor). What's really funny though is that he told my mom that he thought that Rose was just a really good name. And only after we brought her home is when he told her where he got Rose from.
9:40 "And in years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few but just the old favourites." The Curator lived up to his word given the return of the 10th Doctor as the 14th.
Unfortunately Christopher Eccleston has stated that he never truly "felt" like the Doctor. Long story short, being the Doctor left a sour taste in his mouth. He's recently come back for Big Finish Audio Dramas, but will likely, and unfortunately, never be seen on screen again. While he may not realize that he basically brought Doctor Who back in full force, having David Tennant basically overshadow Eccleston's performance in Series 1, it may be a personal issue
a real shame. First time I watched it I really fell in love with tennant but after a rewatch I can't decide which one of the two I liked more.@@AvidGaymer42
@@AvidGaymer42A personal issue and an issue with the writing and direction, apparently; in more recent interviews and/or convention panels, he's said he'd only consider coming back if it was a story about his Doctor alone (he doesn't like the multiple Doctor stories). And now he's said he'd consider coming back if they got rid of Russell T. Davies and other folks. Seeing as RTD is supposed to be the showrunner for however many seasons out of the 15th's era...yeah, we're probably never gettin' 9 back onscreen.
Best Doctor Who COntent I've watched on this channel. I remember the 5 doctors giving me chills as a young boy. I'll never forget the rastion robot. That thing was hella scary.
The Day of the Doctor still remains as one of the best since it clearly shows how much care and loved was put into it and is both a tribute and shows respect to every single doctor in one form or another.
I honestly wonder if Tom Baker saying,”Congratulations”,in the middle of his speech wasn’t in character, and just simply him congratulating him on being a part of the show like he was.
Still... Really wish Chris showed up for this Episode. Would been great to shown (my theory anyway) the personalities of the Doctors reasons, where I always figured since Chris was too traumatized recent of what he did during the War, why he could never be ruthless and since he didn't want Rose to be alone, he needed to be more selfish and self preserving why he had that personality while maintaining his base persona of the love of humans, where he'd always have the fascination. Where Matt is the more attempt at innocence and almost a reset on the huge hole left by all prior companions, so he attempts to become more adapted for a smaller amount of companions, hence when he realized he kept getting mistaken for young, he went to Capaldi and (So much more but just as one example), after falling for Missy he figured to have her wildness on his mind along with River, so influenced and (number of other details) he went on to 14 ( i think or was it 13)
They say the first doctor you see is always your favorite David Tennant was my first and I do love him but since I've gained access to all the old seasons Jon Pertwee grown to be my new favorite
what surprised me is that neither of them started jockeying for who got to be the dandy and who ended up as the clown. missed their chance on that one. lol
Y'know, I know a lot of 13's stories were pretty weak by comparison to other doctors, but the Fugitive Doctor definitely stood out as one of the better or most interesting concepts introduced. I know the answer to her existence that the show was trying to hint at was that she was just one of a huge amount of pre-Hartnell incarnations, but even then they left it severely underexplored to the point where it's not even entirely clear if that's the case? I hope that Jo Martin comes back some day and the Fugitive Doctor is one of those rare multi-doctor, multi-showrunner story threads or characters that lives on for a while like River Song or the Brigadier that just pops up every now and again. Whether Jo does turn out to be pre-Hartnell, or between 2 and 3, or something else entirely, she had the Doctor energy and I feel like her incarnation deserves more screen time.
Perhaps it's a bit like the Rosetta Stone... I wouldn't be able to understand the first word, in spite of it being written in parental languages of that which I speak... but if someone were to translate it for me, it might be useful/informative!
I think I have just realised something. It CANNOT make sense for the Jo Doctor's TARDIS to look like a Police Box since that happened during the First Doctors time, in the first episode of Doctor Who in fact. So it is impossible for both... 1. The Jo Doctor to be before the First Doctor. 2. Her Tardis to look like a 1960's Police Box. Only one of those things can be the truth based on what we see in her episode.
Either that or lazy plotting. Would have made more sense to have a locked wardrobe covered with a dust sheet, with a buzz to it and a key attached to a fob watch. Then have Ruth inexplicably drawn to it, with them entering and see a retro console room
In Day of the Doctor, it's a shame they couldn't have got a new line from the surviving Doctors playing over the big "power up" scene. Not visually as they obviously all look a lot older
It could have been visually. The fact they look older doesn't matter because The Five Doctors, The Two Doctors and Time Crash all have Doctors looking older.
@@jellybabiesarecool4657 I think they even explained it somewhere as the younger incarnations aging due to them existing in the same place. But it never bothered me, it's just a limitation of filming a show over decades and I just ignore it and enjoy seeing past doctors again for one more adventure.
I saw a rumor once that they were going to get the surviving Doctors to do a voiceover for that scene but Colin said no because he wanted more for them to do. Obviously might be bollocks but it does line up with what's happened in the past with The Dark Dimension in the 90's, you had Colin and Peter being upset they were essentially cameos in a Fourth Doctor story.

Definitely one of the more underrated classic era stories for sure, and the score was a big part of that.

That scene was so touching, the subtle wink and smile, added with the dialogue was MAD respect to everything. It was authentic.
Eh. Tom baker was the 4th. Doctor. NEVER THE ORIGINAL,,,,,,

Did you know Tom Baker had an interesting part in Canterbury Tales, 1972 version I think. Standing naked washing himself in a tub while 2 old ladies watched through a keyhole.

The Christmas Truce in WW1 is genuinely one of the most beautiful moments in recorded history. Everyone put aside their differences and enjoyed the holiday, in the middle of one of the most brutal and costly wars in our history. It's enough to move a man to tears
Apparently the Canadians used it as a premise for a sneak attack. :( Kinda not proud of that one.
@tristanridley1601 Yeah but that was more down to the higher-ups being mad that the truce happened at all, they were famously furious about it on both sides
Wow out of all The Doctors, The Second Doctor has met most his incarnations

'I'm going home, the long way round', always makes me feel emotional, as that was something our family used to say after a day out, so the Doc is right, it's where we've all been going. Thanks for letting us join the journey Doctor.
What I learned from the Five doctors:
Second doctor visiting Brigadier is one of the aspect of near regenerating doctor. In SJA, 11th doctor said that he visit all of his companions, and proud to all of them, before his regeneration. Various media stated that before Second doctor changes, he has gotten into a few adventures before regeneration takes place.
"Gallifrey STANDS!" nothing short of absolutely epic. Rip John Hurt

Some of those have an age/physical improbability that creates difficulties to really shoot an entire episode but just let us have a brief taste of these men because they might not all be around for the 70th anniversary.
That's why if the 60th is just an RTD 10th doctor special it will disappoint me.

Yes, John Hurt was a genius. I forget he is gone and wonder why we do not see him any more. Still, I'm a Tom Baker fan first for Dr. Who.

That (almost) ending with the Three Doctors is an amazing throwback!
They'll never beat the Three Doctors its a 'magical' Who serial one of the best in the series history...
We have lost William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, John Pertwee, and John Hurt. They will always be The Doctor and nothing will change that.

Sorry if you like 13s story.
But this is why chibnall shouldn’t be the writer, he can’t explain what he writes.
I mean, time travel
Either that or lazy plotting. Would have made more sense to have a locked wardrobe covered with a dust sheet, with a buzz to it and a key attached to a fob watch. Then have Ruth inexplicably drawn to it, with them entering and see a retro console room
I remember buying and reading the paperback of The Five Doctors the same day it was due to be screened on Children in Need. Loved it. Still do.
