      I love both Rush and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. A win/win. This one has some similar elements to Roll the Bones, released two years following this song in 1991.
      Also: Requests for Bruce Springsteen - Meeting Across The River (studio)
      Jungleland (live video)

    You should definitely check out Red Barchetta from their Moving Pictures album. A favorite of many Rush fans. It tells a futuristic story about when cars are banned, but a man's uncle reveals a beautiful sports car he has hidden on an abandoned farm. Needless to say, the man starts taking the car out for a spin and discovers the thrill and joy of driving in his uncle's Red Barchetta, but ends up being chased by authorities and has to make a run for it to get back to his uncle's farm. Very interesting story. The music is amazing and very well written - it starts out with a beautiful, slow melody, then builds up to some really cool riffs, has a beautiful guitar solo by Lifeson, more cool and kickin' riffs, and then gently tones it down with a beautiful, dreamy outro with tasteful bass playing and Alex's dreamy guitar playing. I think you'll love it. It's my favorite song.

    • @RoarOfWolverine
      @RoarOfWolverine 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Neil based the song on a short story named “A Nice Morning Drive” written by Robert Foster. Peart being an avid reader based many lyrics on poems and short stories. Neil was great for giving fans very unique lyrics rather than the same old love story after love story. Rush proved that songs can be based on life experiences other than young love.

    • @dannyropero4216
      @dannyropero4216 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, most people think Red Barchetta is simply about a joy ride, but there's way more content in that song. The article that the song is based off explains the story better, but in a dystopian future, certain cars are banned (the Motor Law). Only certain government issued, bloated, SUV type vehicles were permitted on the road (the alloy air cars). The drivers of these alloy vehicles were encouraged to run all banned vehicles off the road, hence the chase at the end of the song. It's been years since I read the original article, but I believe that's how the story went.

    Thank you for this reaction. I remember when this song came out. I felt like Rush came back from a long excursion. After Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, and Hold Your Fire, the Presto album returned rush away from the heavy keyboard production and brought Geddy back to the bass god that we always knew he was. As a drummer myself, I really appreciate how the main riff that you and I love so much has the snare drum back beat on count 3 for the first 2 measures then counts 2 and 4 on the second 2 measures. There is a push and pull roller coaster effect between all the instruments and I remember asking myself, "How did they come up with this?" After repeated listens, I realize that the guitar was the initial instrument that inspired the drums and bass to flesh it out, so hats off to Alex Lifeson for his creativity. Still, thanks for this reaction and all your other Rush reactions. There is no such thing as a bad Rush song. I look forward to you reacting to some of the earlier works from Fly By Night and Hemispheres and more. Geddy's bass work is nothing less than phenomenal. Thank you.

    You can’t stop and you shouldn’t stop. Limelight and 2112! 2112 will put a new crease in your brain. 🧠 It’s a half concept album. It’s their early masterpiece. Very serious RUSH. 20+ minutes, I believe for that first side of the record that’s known as 2112. The flip side of the album had single songs that new fans should not ignore. It’s from their weed era! Ha Ha! You will get to it, it’s inevitable. RUSH used a lot of different techniques and musical styles but it’s always unmistakably RUSH. We can’t wait for your 2112 reaction! Do the studio version as opposed to live for the first time. There’s a version with animation that’s cool. You’ll see. You WILL see! 😆

    “…Is this groove just a little bit different?” Yes. But you’re picking up on it already: RUSH never stood still. They went through several phases or periods. In the early 70s, they sounded a lot like Led Zeppelin. Then they had hints of Yes and King Crimson to go along with the Zeppelin, and their songs got really long. The challenge of the long songs wore them out and they switched to shorter songs and became quite fond of The Police and New Wave. Geddy added a lot of keyboards and Neil added synth drums. And so on. This song is from the late 80s.

    Geddy is playing a Wal bass during this period between 1985 and the early 90's. He would transition back to his '72 Fender Jazz bass on the 1993 album Counterparts and stick with it for the duration until the band's retirement. The Jazz has a more beastly growly tone to it when compared to the 'popcorn' tone of the Wal.

      @@russelschultz Perhaps, but it was a lousy sounding bass for Rush. Weak with no bottom end. I thought the Steinberger sounded better. Even Geddy tired of the Wal after a while. The Rics, Fender Precision and Jazz basses were still the best.

    Geddy’s tone in this era of Rush was driven by a few things, but most important among them was his use of the hand made Wal basses with thinner gauge flat wound strings. While it’s not not nearly as aggressive and lacks the deep low growl of a Fender jazz, its mid range tone is amongst the best I’ve ever heard and lend itself to clear articulation. Love the Wal. If you like this bass sound and tone, give a listen to the track Open Secrets from the album Hold Your Fire.
    Keep up the great reactions, and your mission, if you choose to accept, is to learn this one and play along!!!!!

    You should check out the documentary Beyond The Lighted Stage. It's s great documentary about their entire careers. This album came out in 1989 and was after their synth heavy days in the mid-80s. There's a clip of this album's producer saying that they're one of the few great power trios and it was a shame their music was smothered in keyboards. I love all eras of Rush and didn't mind the synth heavy 80s albums but this was an intentional return to that power trio sound.
