Worth mentioning that the Spanish word for "female explorer" is exploradora. I believe this is where Dora (the cartoon)'s name comes from and is probably the source of the pun in the Stackridge song
I wanna thank you for connecting the dots between XTC and Harry Partridge! I ended up having a conversation with my dad about it and we both got a little kick out of being influenced by the same bloodline of goofy cool dudes
Knowing that The Beach Boys were a huge inspiration for this soundtrack is such an incredibly vindicating feeling. Also explains why this is one of my favorite game OSTs bcuz the Beach Boys are the GOATs
No me esperaba que de la nada sonara "Ven, devórame otra vez" una canción que llevo escuchando toda mi vida y resulta que inspiró una parte de EarthBound. Tienes buena pronunciación, me hace sospechar que eres bilingüe.
around halfway through this video i caught myself wishing this video had been 5 hours long or such. incredible deep dive!! you have a wonderful approach to analyzing and explaining music topics. outstanding!!!!!
I am well aware of XTC and adore them (and am Queer, haha) but you really blew my mind by unveiling that Harry Partridge is Andy Partridge's son, which in hindsight, makes so much sense. Glad I'm not the only one who knows about the Rockband Oasis piece he did. Fantastic work and research on such eclectic pieces of music, your videos are so well researched and documented and fun and your musicscape player are a joy to watch, thank you. Now I'm going to indulge in going through Stackridge's back catalogue.
I feel like it's worth mentioning the Beach Boys song that's sampled, Deirdre, comes from their amazing album Sunflower that's 100% worth listening too. It's probably their best album outside of the behemoth that is Pet Sounds. And Sunflower really shows that as much of an amazing musician Brian is, the other Beach Boys were just as capable of writing amazing and beautiful songs, especially Forever, easily Dennis Wilson's best song.
It’s sometimes hard to remember but the 90s was all the hippie kids grown up and working in the industry so it makes total sense that this is the music that inspired the [Mother] series... it’s also like how nowadays devs are heavily inspired by the 90s (music and much more) but seriously thank you for making this video!
This is fucking incredible. Going through the artists and albums discussed in this video has been an absolute joy. A particular highlight in my personal dive has been Moonriders' self-titled album, it's already become a new favorite of mine. Also as someone who's primarily familiar with Shogo Sakai through his work on the Kirby franchise, I'd love to see you cover his work on Mother 3 and the influences on his work
After finishing the video, I just wanted to take time to say that this video was a transcendant experience that is going to stay with me for a very long time. Earthbound is a game that has always been really special to me and getting to learn all the musical influences behind it was a feeling that I can't quite describe but I feel that you captured really well in this video. Thank you so much for taking me on that journey and for all your work in what was clearly a behemoth of a project.
The first 4 notes of the Twinkle Elementary School melody are definitely the same as the Japanese school bell chime most people heard from elementary to high school
I heard it here too in American elementary school! It's the Westminster Chime, originally British, and for some reason that I'm sure is well documented somewhere, it's everywhere in Japan to this day
so glad snoopy concert gets a mention in a video by one of my favorite video makers about my favorite series ever edit: and also pauls boutique??? hell yeah???
So cool that you referenced Cory Johnson! I haven't ever heard anyone else talk about him, and I always loved his Zelda album. Thanks for reminding me to finally check out his other stuff, and great video as usual. I agree with pretty much every connection you made, and the use of "My Mummy's Dead" gave me chills...
A video on one of my favorite topics was posted to one of my favorite channels? Seeing this in my TH-cam feed was a dream come true! You have my gratitude and respect for endeavoring to create this video. All of those albums are sitting in a folder on my laptop, but I haven't gotten around to listening to a good chunk of them yet. ( _Consquences_ is my favorite of the bunch!) This video helped someone such of myself who doesn't come from a musical background better understand what Tanaka and Suzuki were talking about in that part of interview. I'm glad that my video was able to be of some use to you in making this. 🙂 P.S.: I recommend listening to the Eagles' album _Hotel California_ , which was among the albums Itoi discussed with Tanaka when they first met. Tanaka pondered that the album's afterglow that lingers with you after listening to it, rather than any particular tracks, is at the foundation of his involvement with the series' soundtracks. (My source comes from the yet-untranslated majority of the very same interview.)
This is a fantastic video for a Mother-head like myself as you describe, but specifically for people who love listening to unconventional music or just general music that you don’t listen to as much nowadays and it feels great to have a video like this or the mother music influence iceberg, as a tool to listening to new artists and albums(gonna catch up on Randy Newman now lmao)❤️❤️💕💕 fantastic work yet again! My first exposure to Moonriders, who I now adore, was that in the PC version of the 2013 game 'Trails of Cold Steel', the background textures are upscaled enough that you can read the (previously unreadable) titles of books on the generic bookshelf models throughout the game.
