  • Traveling the I.C.W. can be boring sometimes. But that is good. IF you're the captain. This leg of the journey didn't look like much on camera, but it meant a lot to me.

Electric chokes are supposed to get hot. There is a bi-meatal spring that expands as it heats up. The expanding spring is linked to the choke valve which causes it to open and close when it cools off..... Now you know.

Electric chokes have a coil that heats up as voltage is applied... As heat increases the choke butterfly opens...

We've only kayaked Vero Beach once, we enjoyed paddling from spoil island to spoil island, the second night where you dropped anchor was Eau Gallie Causeway which is a place we kayak frequently while in Florida, Dragon Point is just north of the causeway which is the southern most point of Merritt Island.

That boat you commented on at about 8:00 looked like a Nordhavn (or a similarly styled trawler yacht). Those are actually quite easy on the go-go juice, I think even the 44's are trans-Atlantic rated.

Gettin close to Cocoa Beach, friends always go there and looks like a great place. I been to Daytona and St. Augestine but now tend to take vacations on the West Coast, not as busy north and south of Tampa. Like it that way. Islands off the coast is like heaven.

An electric choke uses 12v to heat the spring which changes the tension to open it up as needed until the engine is warmed up. That’s why it was hot. No 12v and the choke stays closed or partially closed and wasted fuel. If you just remove the wire you are no doubt running on half choke, again wasting fuel. If you don’t want the choke, you can adjust it by turning the inner part, so the spring pressure is off and not pulling the choke closed. When those heating elements go bad it does the same thing, choke stays closed.

Cool my home waters, Ft Pierce and Vero. Real quick I would like to mention since you brought up anchoring, the Florida Legislature has Bill's S1652, HB1337, HB 693, and others looking to restrict anchoring. As I enjoy anchoring in my home waters here in Florida and know many others do anyone who can email their representatives in Florida or local boating organizations would be helping to preserve this freedom. Tons of info on Facebook at Cruisers Rights Network. Loving your travel vlog Marty.

Understand your feelings of the affluent, Marty. I feel the same way. We vacationed on Sanibel for 20+ years, and I always felt a bit out of place. Right when we felt that we were “family”, things changed, condo mgmt changed, and suddenly we are on the outside, regardless that we visited every year, sometimes for multiple yearly visits, and it didn’t matter, just went away. Is what it is, but I miss the times we spent there. Family were born and grew old during these years vacationing on the island, and now that I’m in my “old age” (63?) I can no longer afford to go to where we went every year. Times change, and we just have to adapt. But when property sells for now 2mill for a lost, things change, people change. Enjoy the Loop while you can, my friend.

Marty rarely answers comments so I'll do it for him! Ideal cruising speed for what the guys are trying to achieve Marty & Mike have said is around 8 knots, and they figure on around 1 gallon per mile. You can do the math - I'm in the UK and US gallons are different to ours!
