Like many folks, I have watched a lot of coach instruction videos. You’re simply the best. Your compassion and understanding of the weekend golfers common mistakes we make such a difference. For me, you break the swing down in terms that are easily understandable and executable if I put the work in. I will never be a pro golfer. Just someone who loves the game and wants to enjoy playing it consistently when I can get out there. Thanks so much. Your’s is the only golf instruction channel I subscribe to. You just manage to make sense of it all. All the very best.

i had lots of lessons over the years and i used to get told.. Your tilting it’s wrong you need a flatter turn.. Then i found the one armed swing and the throwing a ball motion these really helped and now you confirm what i always believed so thank you.. The other drill i like for this is holding a club with the shaft horizontal in line with the target at waist height with hands a couple of feet apart and then take the back swing keeping the hands inside the target line..

I've benefited immensely from hundreds of videos that have greatly helped my game but THIS one basic lesson was the missing link that moved my ball flight from uncertain to "on target". Very good video again. Thanks for the instruction. I love the drill where you slide the lead hand down the lead leg, and then turn. I am definitely going to be using that one. On a different note, I like the idea of using motion instead of placement, but for me I find the club bouncing around too much in transition. I can get it stable if go slow, but then I can't generate any speed. Do you have any videos on that?

I fell into a similar sort of takeaway routine by attempting to hit the ball while performing an L to L drill, reasoning that I didn't want to use an all out swing. What happened in fact was that my arms transferred a lot of momentum to my wrists and as they set, they pulled my arms a little higher as I completed my turn. When I glanced at my shadow I saw the shaft of my seven iron was nearly parallel, not an L at all. And my wrists were fully set. The resulting strike produced the sound of ball compression like never before and I got great distance plus a slight draw. All the things I've been futilely working on but failing to achieve with consistency. That's because the take away move is simple and repeatable. The clubhead ends up in a good position not through muscle memory but the laws of physics. Nothing in golf is perfect, but not having to think about positions and how to time wrist hinge promotes relaxation in a mental and physical sense, which can only help the swing.

i've a got a new drill that replaces this drill. and, it is great fun to do. holding the club with your left hand only, just simply point the club to your right with your left hand directly on top of the club. then, all you have to do is wait a while. the heel pad of the left hand has to press down on the shaft to prevent the club from dropping down. and, as the pressure builds up, in the heel pad, it will set the club back in motion and the club will continue on its arc. this will, also, stretch the left shoulder joint in its socket. and, this will ensure that the shoulder angle takes shape. and, once the club has swung back on its arc you will find that it will continue to swing back on its arc as you swing back and thru. and, as you do this, you can then put your right hand on the club as you swing your left arm back. you will find that your right forearm will be facing in front of you as you put your hand on the club. from the there the right arm will continue to lever back as you swing back to the top of the backswing. more fun to do. much better exercise. and, it really gives a player a feel for the swing.

Great tip, I can attest to that. The only thing that wasn't mentioned, unless I missed it, is to keep the club and the front arm in FRONT of the back shoulder. The tilt is the only proper way to get get through the takeaway and have the club behind you and on plane. The right shoulder and hip move up and IN at an angle that points the tip of the shaft to the ball at shoulder level. On the downswing, keep pointing the tip of the shaft to the ball.

Another great instruction of the golf swing takeaway Alex! My first lesson on the net was hip movement, am sure many seen the same, so like sheep we all tried to take our right hip to face the other way so to speak on our backswing! But then I got older and now wiser and I now ensure my weight is 70%on my left leg/foot (like a post on a spring gate) take the club back with your left shoulder then think about clearing your left hip before swinging through to your intended target ( hips before your tits) The same in what you are trying to get across to us looking in on your blogs Alex! So simple, yet it can play with your mind if you let your hands take control of your swing! One creates power to the golf swing by resisting the hips from making your whole body turn to much onto your right side! Alex you are a breath of fresh air into teaching us all out here looking for the answer to a golf swing! Many thanks Alex!

In the swing I have been learning we pivot in the set up instead of during the backswing you kinda want the lead shoulder pointing towards the ball pivot your shoulds towards the ball or atleast in front of it and turn your hips then make your back swing and hold the weight on the lead side helps you to not pull your self off the ball works pretty well similar to what your showing here good information 👍

Dude... I love your tips and drills... BUT... I think the key to a SIMPLE golf swing is really all about the SHOULDER TURN... : Right Handers: on the backswing, just rotate your front shoulder.. (left shoulder) to a point where the shoulder is back and down under your chin... perhaps pause, because this should complete the back swing... then.. simply turn back to the striking position by turning the back shoulder (the right shoulder) to get back down and under the chin as you accelerate through the ball strike.... and then continue past the strike by allowing the back shoulder to rotate until it is facing the point of where you were aiming at address....
(Most of the momentum from the turn to the ball to strike it will be braced against your front foot and leg.. the left ones for right hand golfers... this should happen automatically provided you didn't start moving around your feet on the backswing...)
In every drill in this video, you do this shoulder turn move perfectly... but you never describe it as such...
The body mechanics of this is obvious if you think about it... The hands and arms connect to the shoulders... the shoulders connect to the top of the spine in the neck and under your chin.. hence, you cannot take the club back very far with just using your hands and arms... you got to rotate your shoulders... and when you do rotate your shoulders, certain parts of your lower body are going to turn as well...(your belly will move back, the hips will turn and open, and your knees will turn back as well on the backswing...) then when you pause and then re-turn the shoulders to get back to the ball as you go to strike it, everything else will follow along naturally... and as a rule, if you concentrate on moving the club by moving your back shoulder down under your chin, as you accelerate to strike the ball, then the correct sequence of the club tracking behind the shoulder will produce a much more powerful impact....
to back this up, TRY to make a golf swing without moving the shoulders as described above... YOU CANNOT DO IT... because there is no way else to do it, ... correctly...

Definitely feels different but clear it allows me not to sway

Not to over complicate it BUT... I think my body resists all the weight going to my back leg on the backswing - not sure why?

View the dont weight shift lesson. Or start the swing with heel

Now I'm confused. I've seen other professionals talk about flattening the swing.

Feel vs real is often the case. And a more rounded swing can be great but it’s how you get ther and if it’s just flat Rms rather than flat pivot the tilt is key in the swing

The tilt is causing me to hit behind the ball

You are hanging back and just dipping right side too low coming down without shifting forward properly
