Tried this out in practice last night and 9 holes this morning. Practice was awesome, definite increases in distance, height, and straightness. On the course improved as well. One key takeaway from the video is keeping the lead arm bicep against the chest. I am most consistent when I do that.
The guy I take lessons from was a student of Moe Norman. His name is Todd Graves there is a huge single plane army out there. I highly recommend it! Great work
Funny thing... I discovered all this info on my own at the range this past month and then I come across this video and its everything I'm applying.....my game has improved greatly...thanks for reinforcing my discovery.
I'm a high handicapper and tried this last round after something mark crossfield said on grip and ulner deviation. My strike with irons was so much better and I felt I could stand up more over the ball at address (I'm 6ft 3) then I saw your videos and wow what a coincidence going out again this morning, hopefully can get the woods like the irons, fingers crossed for bullets
Ah very good I like it. I wonder how many got your clever reference to Moe Norman. Maybe some older golfers. I see it gets the thumbs up from most people However I found this single plane method quite difficult to.take onto the course. Moe Norman is reported to have practice his method for hours and hours every day. Which maybe explains why he made it all look so effortless.
I just tried to copy this yesterday on the range and course. Played one of the best rounds of the year. Some excellent shots some “not so good “. All in all, with very minimal practice,I could see immediate positive results. Will definitely continue to refine / experiment this.
Had my best ballstriking round in months today using this. My approach shots especially, which are usually my Achilles heel. Only offline shots came when I wasn't aligned properly or overswung. Can't wait to get back out there again. Thanks. ⛳️
So it works well for wedges as longer clubs ? I’ve tried of simulator and worked great , want to take to course just concerned commuting to this swing going into comp but definitely seemed to be consistently easier to hit straight
@user-qd1qq8vs5n worked with every club for me. You should expect a little less yardage until you get it grooved. Once I did, though, I was getting at least 7-10 yards extra. Hope this helps. ⛳️
According to Kirk Junge and now Steve who is a much more engaging tutor, you don't because you are getting the same impact position. The only change is that you lift your wrist before the back swing.
@@lakergreat1 that is the thing, you always go through the ball the same way, so you already need to have your lie angle correct. This swing setup does not change this in any way, you just address the ball with the hands in the same position as they will be at impact rather than starting with hands low and then going through impact with them high.
Steve, I’m a 9 hdcp and started doing this about 2 weeks ago. 3 rounds and have not shot over 78 yet. I thought maybe I was just doing some gimmicky but you’ve validated what I’ve been feeling. Thank you.
Steve, you’ve just illustrated the single plane swing & convinced me to return to it this weekend. I was having success with it BUT allowed myself to return to the “mainstream” swing conventions. Thank you
I hope that you stick with this, and give us more content. Due to back problems I do not go back inside as flat as you, but I still get good results. Keep it coming, Steve.
been doing this for 3 yrs, your right, feels like the body works more while the hands/wrists are quiet. down to 9hc so far, don't push it as much as the old swing, only when I'm on the longest drive hole. still get good distance on driver, with better accuracy. Irons is where it works best, even when chipping, I also putt that stance. less is more.Great work Steve,I bet We'll be seeing more and more young guns working on similar swings.
I'm 51 my mates dad taught me this technique 33 years ago. Best thing I ever learnt. Good to see that people are still discovering this awesome technique even today. I does feel weird at first especially as you will realise that your using more arms than hip rotation in your back swing. But with a little bit of patience it will coffee and your golf will be all they better for it. Great vid👍
Umm yes that's right it is all about rotation. Like I said it'll feel weird at first as you're (most people) use their arms more than they realise when they swing. This technique will tell you so as you'll take a back swing and your arms will get to around the 90° and your will go why aren't my arms higher in my back swing. The why is because you don't rotate at the hips enough. You use your arms to get the club higher in your backswing not by rising your hips.
Can't wait to take this to the range. Of course we have all season Bryson's mechanical swing, however, your explanation makes it actually seem very simple and very doable.
Actually looks quite normal. When we take our grip we should always hold the club with our left hand and arch our wrist out to the ball. Then we can place our right hand on the club from under the shaft. And, we should always grip the club lightly when we first place our hands on the ball. Then, when we raise our position, to look up to the target, the weight of the clubhead will press the handle up against the heel pad of the hand. This helps to ensure that the hand is fully extended.
It's a great way to play. As Moe Norman said a pendulum is a perfect swing. Just back and through on the same level with no twisting or turning of the club. Keep up the great work sir 🏌🏾
Eureka! I have been struggling with my driver and was looking for one simple tip. I tried this, and I started hitting the ball solid and incredibly straight. I’m seven handicap and I am truly grateful!
Brilliant! Like most amateur golfers we have all been looking for a simple and repeatable swing and this is it finally! Love that it also work for chipping and pitching too! Thanks Steve best TH-cam golf video seen in years. Here’s too breaking 80 tomorrow 🤞
Thanks Steve...I tried this technique appx. 10 years ago and, for some reason, reverted back to the traditional set-up....Your enthusiasm for this single plane set-up encouraged me to give it another try....In my case, the second time is a charm...Contact, distance and accuracy!!! Again, thanks for video and your willingness to try something new...This is refreshing in a market where instructors kinda get stuck in their technique and approach...Tony Shans
Body and pivot with the short irons is something I started doing recently. Also loved when you talked about your forearms and wrists almost like a putter. Follow through aswell. Miss less, more consistent, and feels smooth.
I actually started experimenting with this same swing technique about 1.5 weeks ago with very good success on the range. I knew my left wrist was in ulnar deviation but I could find very few links in TH-cam to validate what I was trying....and then this video popped up on my feed. It definitely has that Moe Norman/Bryson DeChambeau feel to it but the consistency can't be denied. I've also used that same technique that you showed with chipping (kind of a toe-down feel at address and impact) and I'm no longer chunking or sculling chips. Again, thanks for the validation. It's a truly wonderful feeling to feel confident at address.
Some years ago i startet with the single plane swing watching Todd Graves. I felt it was allright but never got my irons or driver correct. Then a while back i startet with the Eureka Swing and my game improved, but I didn’t get it completly. I was frustrated and then i thought why don’t I do a machup of the to swing and then It all made sense. So when I saw you doing the same I was amazed. Litteraly like a week after I started with this your Single plane Eureka video came. As you say «its soo good and straight» Your videos are the best Steve🤩
Great video Steve, I’ve been looking at Bryson swing and one length irons and your series definitely reinforced my thinking. The main key I saw when I compared Bryson’s swing to the golf swings of Ben Hogan, Moe Norman, Tiger Woods and Rory was they all had a straight left arm and a long low takeaway and then a straight right arm through impact and to the finish. So the full swing was a giant chip shot as you quite rightly described when chipping just off the green. I encourage you to do a complete in-depth series and sell it, I believe it will sell and that it was definitely a eureka moment 😂
I've started this around a month ago because of bryson as well-- starting with my hywood then moved into my irons especially 6-5 Iron-- never hit those so good!! awesome video
After a fairly strong finish to a round yesterday, thinking, maybe I’ve finally nailed it (appreciating very few ever have actually ‘nailed it’)…I come across this. Tried it hitting into a net and never struck it so pure 😱 …looks like I’m starting all over again 🤣
I share the same sentiments as you. Feels wooden/stiff, have to remind myself to relax. I originally hit monster hooks every now and then, but it seems the more I use it the better I'm getting with just a small draw.
Absolutely brilliant video, normally struggle with pulling my irons and pushing my driver. Today I played a full round with this set up and can't believe the difference. Thank you
Hi Steve, Great video. I stumbled on this swing thought a couple of weeks ago whilst at the driving range.I was playing around with how the club was sitting behind the ball. Toe up heel up and started hitting the ball with high hands as you say. Suddenly I was hitting my irons much straighter even my 5 iron. I have not taken this swing on to my hybrids or woods but after watching your video I will take it on to my driver which is currently the weak part of my game. Thanks keep up the great work.
I started doing this with my pitching wedge and higher lofted wedges and I’m crushing them and getting so much spin on them. I used to use this swing on my irons but I got away from it because I wanted more distance. But now that my understanding of different swing has improved I might give this a try again.
Oh my. I added in the higher grip and left armpit over pec today and shot my best round of the year! I was a little skeptical at first but I was wrong. Thanks so much for this!
I started this swing, grip exactly around 2 weeks ago even before seeing this video. It has done exactly has your explaining. I do lose some distance on drives sometimes but I think that might timing. Great video explaining it 👍
I'll be giving this a try on the range tomorrow. Been looking for a feeling that gives me a reliable swing that stands up well during competition. Suffered a few damaging performances of late and confidence at a low. Thanks Steve
Great attitude towards your craft. 100% right on your eureka moment. Still maintaining right inside forearm and left inside forearms leverage working together naturally during the swing, even though the left inside forearm has come forward more bringing the back right forearm towards the waist bringing the shoulders more inline with your address at the ball. Great stuff bro...! Nod
Another great video! I started using the Eureka swing method a while ago, and I was already seeing good results, then added some experimenting with a single plane swing (“high hands” at address). I’ve been getting solid, repeatable, consistent results combining the two methods ever since. Things can still go wrong, of course, but it’s like you said, the bad swings produce better results, typically straight at the target. Much appreciate watching your own experience with this! It’s validation that convinces me I’m on the right track. Again, another great video! Thanks for the effort!
Was doing this last year and had great results with it and understood the concept, but I found that I was losing distance with my driver for some strange reason but hit my irons further, like 8 iron 180yrds and straight as anything brilliant., so now using basically the eureka swing combined with the one plane swing I now have a handicap rating of 2.5 a year and a half ago I was of 8 struggling to get below it. Love your stuff mate 👌meant to add that I got the idea from Mo Norman mate
As a lefty who plays right this is really interesting. I think if I learned this it would give me way more swing feel/repeatable results bit to find a coach who could teach it in person properly would be hard
I tried this at the range today. Loved the P-wedge to maybe 6/7 iron…but got terrible ball flight with long irons, hybrid, and driver. I was excited about the prospects until those clubs came out of the bag!
This swing fixed my slice. I still bend my wrists and elbow and bring the club around the back of my neck to get more kinetic engergy with less effort.
i have been trying this and yes for me it seems so far to make a big difference to my straightness i had to modify my grip slightly as i was to strong and was pulling and hooking but yesterday i shot nett 65 off the back tees and i only duffed one drive which is huge i have been trying for two years to find a position i feel comfortable with and i think and hope this is it. not what i would call Eurika but single plane. seems to work with all clubs at present.
Good stuff, Moe Norman way. I've been playing like this for 20 years, the missing piece is feeling like the right arm is going to the target or pointing the club at the target same thing. I'm in my fifties and play to a 3 hdcp. This is the easiest way to play good golf most of the time. Watch some of Moe's videos and listen to what he says about the right arm. That's the secret to golf, I believe. Good Luck have fun
For me after about a year or so of playing I'm starting to build my swing from the ground up again. Something that clicked in my head was understanding that 5 mph of body rotation equals 90 mph of clubhead speed. I've been trying to snap my hips thinking I need to go a hundred miles an hour there but if I can slow my hips down and keep my arms straight like this video I get good results.
BZ Steve!! I'm a Eureka subscriber, which has sorted my compression and no slice but have struggled with all the things to think about, especially on pressure shots....ie over water!! However this has eliminated overthinking some technical wrist things and freed up my mind to concentrate on what's important in a swing! Loving the simplicity and of course your super way of explaining it!! Great vid!!😉
Excellent. Moe Norman meets Eureka. Clarifies what I never understood in Moe's swing, despite watching Todd Graves instruction. Can't wait to get to the range this afternoon!
@@CT-ob2bw Great. I miss hit a few to start with, then started hitting solid straight shots. I went on to play 8 holes and my driver and 3 wood hit the fairway every time, with just a tiny draw. I fatted two iron shots, but concluded I probably addressed the ball to far forward in my stance for Eureka, so will check this next time out.
Todd Graves of Graves Golf Academy has been teaching the single plane swing for the last 30+ years I believe. He learned the swing from Moe Norman himself. I have been using the single plane swing for the last 25+ years and find it to be so much easier than the conventional swing. Easier on the body also.
I started using this setup about two weeks before you presented it in your videos. The lower hands position was causing me a lot of inconsistent shots. I'm a 18+ handicap and have been shooting in the mid to low 80s ever since. Handicap is headed down.
Bloody awesome did this with no practice during my prac round today in windy conditions. 7 of 10 hit the fairway. The other weren't really bad just me trying to see how far i could push it.
Well you’ve just made the change I’ve made. It’s the Kirk Junge “Set up 4 impact” method. Combination of moe and Bryson and a little stack and tilt. Easyist swing in golf. You should give Kirk some credit. It is a great method. Great video 😊
Sensei this breakthrough reminds me of the early pre Eureka sessions at the range w the “wee man”! Certainly “feels” like a great way to keep arms in contact and pivot!! Think it could be a great addition to some of our swings!
I'm hitting fairways now with this move its brilliant . I thought that keeping my wrists quiet was a bad thing and shortened back swing to just over 3/4 max. I cock my left wrist down when holding the club in left hand 2.5 knuckles and rest right hand on pretty neutral. I'm sure you did the video a while back about the grip . Alot of practice since then ,swing is feeling smooth and "repeatable" . Low away slow away is the swing thought after I get my grip and stance set. 👍 brilliant video.
I just started a month ago. I watches some Bryon videos and tried to mimic his swing. I noticed i was single plane after watching a video of my swing. Im getting just under 300 yards carry with my driver and around 200 with my 4 iron. I have standard grips that are old and warn out and am putting on some large grips to see if it helps my accuracy. Most come out straught but have a tendecy to hook.
Tried this single plane years ago and lost distance with driver. Also didn’t really feel good ball compression on impact. No doubt I hit straighter on all clubs. I may study your instructions again and try it out.
I'll give it a try, i just want to make consistent contact and be able to enjoy the game!!! Right now I struggle with irons and it is very frustrating...

Bryson uses this for driver so if anything your driver is just probbaly not optimized for you Seek optimizing the strike and launch conditions.
It's because it creates more compression, your hitting down on the ball. Which you want for longer iron shots, but you don't want it with driver

Tried this today. Very promising.
Way to go Steve! Great content and I am convinced that this simplified swing can improve consistency and even lessen fatigue.
Off to the range, thanks for great lesson/tips
Good stuff, Moe Norman way. I've been playing like this for 20 years, the missing piece is feeling like the right arm is going to the target or pointing the club at the target same thing. I'm in my fifties and play to a 3 hdcp. This is the easiest way to play good golf most of the time. Watch some of Moe's videos and listen to what he says about the right arm. That's the secret to golf, I believe. Good Luck have fun
Really interesting, particularly how it uses the body more for the swing.
Please do more videos on this 🤙
How did your range session go?
Looks disgusting, and no power
Single plane is dreadful for anybody wanting to get to a good standard.
Its ok for high handicappers and those who play for fun
Neither of you did it correctly then I lowered my handicap from a 13 to a 3 in one season and I still bomb the ball 300 yards with consistency
@wwebb94 They 100% didnt do it right, bryson is a single plane player. This is the working mans swing. Generates huge amounts of effortless power.
love the passion 🙂 ... Robin Hood couldn't have shot his arrows any straighter Steve!
Thanks🤷♂️👍
I started using this setup about two weeks before you presented it in your videos. The lower hands position was causing me a lot of inconsistent shots. I'm a 18+ handicap and have been shooting in the mid to low 80s ever since. Handicap is headed down.
Tried this morning
Next level Steve
Thanks
Out for 9 holes tomorrow morning to try this.👍
Bloody awesome did this with no practice during my prac round today in windy conditions. 7 of 10 hit the fairway. The other weren't really bad just me trying to see how far i could push it.
Right, I'm convinced!
That's me from tomorrow!!!
Let me know how you get on👍👍
@@stevejohnstongolf Certainly will 🙂
Thank you 👏🏼. I need to try this.
Well you’ve just made the change I’ve made. It’s the Kirk Junge “Set up 4 impact” method. Combination of moe and Bryson and a little stack and tilt. Easyist swing in golf. You should give Kirk some credit. It is a great method.
Great video 😊
Nice one. Thanks for sharing
Could you do a studio breakdown of the swing showing all positions and using tech to show the data - you make it look easy 👍
Another great video! Thank you. Cheers
I cut my clubs all matching length, and have been doing the moe norman fir over a year....grrrrreeaat results
Well I’ll be trying the eureka on the range. Thanks for the great content
Sensei this breakthrough reminds me of the early pre Eureka sessions at the range w the “wee man”! Certainly “feels” like a great way to keep arms in contact and pivot!! Think it could be a great addition to some of our swings!
as a high hcp this is the swing i adopted to regularly break 100 in my last 10 or so rounds (from blue)
Will try this tomorrow.👍
