Last year I did my first three day fast from Thursday and breaking it with Easter Sunday meal. I'm going to do it again this year next week and annually. It felt like Easter was more spiritual and meaningful to me last year. 🙂🙏
I am 79 yrs old, have been type 2 diabetic for over 25 yrs using insulin too, now after heaing your tapes and my daughter fixing my meals, I have lost over 44 pounds and have stopped using insulin altogether...still using the fasting system, just wanted to thank you.
Being that I’m a nurse, this reading your comment does my heart good! I see people, young & of the elderly community every day that feel feel hopeless that they can’t fix their diabetes. You, ma’am, make me want to keep telling them about Dr. Jason Fung. ❤❤❤
RN here. As long as you stopped under doctors care. Insulin dependent diabetes usually means your pancreas is not working at secreting insulin. Those with type 2 diabetes that take meds have a working pancreas, but may have diabetes related to weight, dietary intake. etc., Losing weight/better food intake helps the pancreas not work so hard for a working pancreas. If your blood sugar drops too low it can be life threatening. Hope you are still checking glucose levels. Sorry to be a Debbie downer… I’m just looking out for your best interest. Congratulations on losing weight and I’m glad you’re feeling better. No doubt you are on the right path.

Dr. Fung - I was accidently introduced to you 5 years ago. After you educated me on fasting, I then began exploring the ketogenic diet. It has been 5 years. I lost 100 lbs. and have kept it off with no problem. My "borderline Type 2" plummeted. My aches and pains went away. I fast every day--18 to 20 hours, and incorporate extended fasts, (3-7 days), every 2 or 3 months. I am a 66 year old female---feel great---no limitations. You, literally, freed me from my lifetime of fat imprisonment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world. You have made a HUGE impact on thousands, (maybe millions), of lives. Good work, Doctor!
The longer fasts really help with your health. Some of the many benefits of fasting on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue th-cam.com/video/giEDadzoErs/w-d-xo.html The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! th-cam.com/video/teQIaU6wp2o/w-d-xo.html Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: th-cam.com/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/w-d-xo.html Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! th-cam.com/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/w-d-xo.html Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical precursor to BDNF is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. What breaks a fast? th-cam.com/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/w-d-xo.html Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. 4 Months ago I was diagnose with Type 2 diabetes; my a1c level was at a 12.3 at that time. In around February I discovered your videos about intermittent fasting so I dived into doing OMAD most days and 2MAD once a week and 40 hour fasts twice. My latest blood test came back in late March and now my a1c is at 6.2 and my cholesterol is all in line. Still have work to do, but thank you Dr Fung for pointing me to the right path.
@@mohitkumaar8914 yes it must have to work, based on the lot of comment of people in all of the video. And if you want to know why it has to work read the book of Dr. Fung. He explained how we are killing ourselves by too frequent eating.
@@newchrisusa to me, ‘MD’s or ‘specialists’ are only good for treating specific injuries or infections. They’re generally NOT good at all looking at health holistically.
IF is a game changer for me. Lost 30lbs and am now at my goal weight. I currently practice 20/4 with a sensible feast day on Sunday. No bread, no sweets ( only a small piece of Dark Chocolate if needed ) low carb and no bad oils ( I use only Olive or Avocado oils) best decision I’ve ever made .Thank You Dr. Fung . 🥰🥰🥰
@@Mateuszyk Hi there. I use an air fryer for foods I would have fried in the past. I use avocado or olive oil. Avocado oil has a better heat tolerance . Please feel free to ask any more questions. Good Vibes on your IF journey 👍👍👍
@@silvergoddess3362 i do IF almost half year now but its good that you point it out. Throwed away all my veggie and seed oils weeks ago! Only butter, ghee, lard and olive oil (No fry, just as dressing. Will definitly add avocado oil and coco oil (cold pressed)
My wife came up with the floss and brush right after dinner. It's a huge idea that reinforces that you are done eating for the evening. Cleaning the kitchen as a ritual ending of the day is a huge idea we hadn't thought about. We will be incorporating that into our routine.
Folks, mix it up. Sometimes I fast 20-4, other times I do a 48 fast, Once and a while I do a 72 hour fast. Fasting with Keto I am down 73 pounds. Sometimes we want to over think things. Remember perfection is the enemy of getting things done.
My A1C was 6.9 and my doctor warned that if it crosses 7 she would have to put me on medication. I sprang into action and began intermitting fasting - thanks to your videos. A few months later the A1C went down to 5.8 ... And I fully expect that when I see her again this June, my A1C should be around 5 or there about.
I am in the same spot now. I did take the A1C from 7 to 5.6 (oct 2021). Went back up to 7. I meet with my doctor today and will ask for another 3 months (fasting, etc.).
I keep a copy of The Obesity Code in my lunch bag and read it instead of eating at work on fasting days. Keeps my learning and motivation up! Thank you so much!!
I started intermittent fasting 5 days ago. I lost 2.5 pounds already. I skip the breakfast n take my first meal at 12 n then take asecond o e at5:30. I ate out 2 times n I could not resist the red rice. To make up for the extra food, i skipped my diner. I am doing so far so good. I already can put on 2 jackets that i coukd not last week. Thanks to Dr Fung. It works.
I learned a lot from you dr Fung about fasting. I’m 60 years old with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. I’ve been on a low carb diet for 5 months now and I’ve been doing IF for 3 months now. My AIC went down from 6.9 to 6.2 and my triglycerides from 177 to 82. My bp seems to be on lower readings most of the days. I’m so grateful that I found you on you tube. Thank you for sharing your knowledge for free, you’re the best.
I am doing a 36 hour "broth day" twice weekly from dinner one evening to breakfast on the 3rd day. I could not fast without headaches until I figured out an electrolyte broth mixture that works for me. I sip warm diluted broth with added electrolytes all day. Recipe - 700 ml bone broth plus 800 ml water, and 5g regular salt, 5g potassium chloride powder, 5g magnesium glycinate powder. Add 2.5g MCT powder for ketone boost, and 2.5g powdered medicinal mushroom mixture called Awaken to a cup of broth. Drinking coffee completely kills me on fast days - within 2 hours I am cold, hungry, tired, head aches. Once I stopped coffee on fast days, I was able to do it. I was already fasting overnight 12-14 hours consistently but it made no difference to my weight until I went to the 36 hour "broth days".
Thanks for specifics. Interesting approach worth duplicating. So… you create your own electrolyte mixture? How many mgs obtained to each 5 grams you discuss?
@@onetwoxplore 2600 mg .. seems to be within the AHA guidelines but I recently (after 6 weeks) had to cut the salt in half because of water retention and undereye puffiness. Apparently this is a well-documented symptom of falling insulin levels. Insulin drives water and sodium into the cells so when insulin falls, if excretion can't keep up, there is excess water and sodium in the matrix between the cells. A work in progress, highly individual, and something to keep in mind. I hope Dr Fung sees this and talks about it.
All great tips Dr. Fung! I didn't have any support and still had/have to cook for family who's on the standard American diet (SAD diet!), although I try to make it as healthy as I can. I was able to do lose my weight (150+ lbs!) by learning from your books, videos and lectures. However I feel I got wonderful support from this community. I've been maintaining well and I absolutely love my new life! I'm so thankful!❤️🙏
Cooking for the family has become a highlight when I fast. The smell of food intensifies and what I cook smells wonderful. I get the children/husband to season to taste. Interestingly, when dinner is over, and everything washed and put away, I no longer feel hungry. It's empowering to have the self control to cook and not eat.
You have to change what you cook for your family also. Modify their taste little by little like hiding puréed cauliflower to pizza or something. Jessica Seinfeld had a book out about this. Usually, you see people in the same family with the same weight problem because they eat the same thing.
@@heythave Good point. I confess. I put a 50-50 mix of ice cube bone broth and water in my family's steel cut oats. And the switcheroo from seed oils to lard, tallow, shmaltz, and ghee was even stealthier.. and required patient coaxing and organization when I got rid of the seed oils altogether.
Thank you Dr Fung. I have been fasting for many years and previously lost 28 lbs but 6 weeks ago increased my fasting to 20/2. I have found it relatively easy and my recent blood test have all decreased and all in normal range. I am 66 and feel great. Amazingly I haven’t had to take any pain meds for achy joints etc which I think says it all.
Intermittent fasting becomes my hobby for almost a year and counting.. I do 18/24 or 20/24 every 6 days a week.. My friends just making fun out of it until they feel bad about their health and try to lessen their addiction of eating most of the time and so far it goes well.. I encouraged them to watch your videos about the benefits of intermittent fasting.. Thanks a lot Dr. Fung for educating us free😍😍
Note that everytime I return from teeth cleaning at my dentist I just don't want to eat anything to messup my beautiful white and sqeeeky clean teeth. Very good information dr Fung. Yes, after my last meal at 7 pm. Everything is clean from kitchen to mouth and a long walk before TV time. That works well for the past 8 months of 18/6 daily fasting. Thank you
I do a 36 hour fast every month, I find very easy because it means no veg prep, no cooking & no washing up, it means more time for me to do the things I like. Thank you for you very informative video's.
Can’t thank you enough Dr Fung…a few years ago I started on that dreadful journey of metabolic syndrome: pre-diabetes, hypertension and increased weight …My nephew suggested your approach, and in no time I stopped being on that journey. IF is a game changer!!!!
Dr. Fung, I was born in 1948, and the way eating was done in the 1970's is the way I have eaten my entire life. I am now 73 years old, and mostly eat one meal a day because I'm a small female, and my metabolism isn't what it used to be. I enjoy fasting for about 20 hours or so, but would like to get into 48 hours or more just to see how that affects me.
@@monnnmendozaofficial6364 Oh, I guess I somehow misled you. We ate 3 meals a day with no snacking in between. We were also very, very active. No sitting around on couches watching television. A lot of outdoor activities. Dr. Fung described how we ate in the '70's, and that started way back before 1948 when I was born.😁

@@kathleenmckeithen118 I was born in 1957 and agree with you about the way we ate and conducted our lives in the 70s. And another huge difference is portion sizes. 1. Find a buddy (or coach, group) for accountability. 2. Ritualize the closed window (cues and barriers) to develop the HABIT, such as cleaning up, taking a walk, brushing teeth, etc. 3. Schedule activities during fasting period so you are less tempted and focused on other things.
Dr. Fung - thanks to your lectures on fasting and information from others as well, in three months I dropped 40 pounds and brought my A1C from over 10 to under 5. I used low carb eating and intermittent fasting along with walking. Cheers!
Congratulations I started doing the same this past February so far in 2 months I have lost 35 pounds and A1C went from 10.7 to 6.2 I’m gonna keep this up till I reverse my type 2 diabetes and get my weight down from 260 to 180

Dr. Fung thank you for all of your hard work teaching all of us to have a healthy happy lives. I have been following your TH-cam channel for maybe a year. I have bought 2 of your books. I have been seriously fasting since February 1st, 2022 and thus far I have lost 35 lbs and its now April 3rd. I enjoy fasting and feel great the days I fast. I truly look forward to fasting. Also before fasting my liver, pancreas, and spleen were enlarged. I had high cholesterol and glucose. Now my liver, spleen, and pancreas is normal. High cholesterol and high glucose gone. Thank you again. I still have 30-40 more lbs to lose.

i added 20 pounds during the covid hysteria. i began getting back to normal 3 months ago. i learned several years ago to do two things to lose and keep off weight. Eat only when i'm hungry and stop when comfortably full. Naturally i drifted into 2 meals a day. Worked like magic again until a couple of weeks ago. I'm 73, a woman, short and somewhat sedentary (i do workout 5-6 times a week) and my loss slowed considerably. I had been listening to fasting podcasts and mostly your podcast Dr. Fung. Well you explained it well and i tried it and it WORKED!!!!! Following your direction i found it easy. I am now on OMAD 4-5 days a week and i'm down another 7 pounds (3 weeks). I am into all my clothes now. Feeling like a million dollars. I am confident of losing another 7-8 pounds that brings me to the low end of the weight range for my height and age. I cannot begin to put into words my thanks to you for your guidance and direction, It has made all the difference. Bless you!
This is my first day fasting. I heard of other people having an evening window to eat. I have to have a nice coffee, and breakfast. So I decided to do a 930 am to 1230 pm eating window. I'm going to eat whole based foods, eggs, beans fruits and veggies. It also would make a better balance in my life so I can still do picnics, breakfast whatever and drink water the rest of the day and do a yoga routine during my fasting time or a nice walk. Its just way more possible for me to maintain the habit while having a morning window.
April 24, 2022 my husband and I launched into serious intermittent fasting and a low carbohydrate diet. I’ve lost 30 pounds and he’s lost almost 50. I had no diseases or medications, but he is off Losartan, Metformin, and Omeprazole! His T2D appears to be reversed. We both still need to lose more weight to be in a healthy BMI range. The problem that I believe is starting to slow me down is that I get hungry before bedtime, no matter how big a dinner I eat. I usually fast every day 18-20 hours. If I don’t eat before bed I will not sleep. I have been awake at 2:30 am from being hungry. Interestingly, this doesn’t happen to me on 48-72 hour extended fasts. How do I conquer this obstacle? Thank you for the wealth of rock-solid information you have provided for us! Our lives are changed!
I have been IF for over 4yrs. I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose in the beginning but loved all the benefits. I lost 15# in the first few months mostly doing 20-24hr fasts. I then went to 19:5 for maintenance. I followed OMAD the majority of the time. Everything was great and the weight stayed off the first 3yrs. Over the last year I have gradually gained the weight back while strickly sticking with 19:5 with some longer fasts thrown in. I also was losing lots of hair. I’m thinking I may have not been getting enough protein. How do I get back on track and losing again?

I bought and read your book, "The Obesity Code." It was well-written and provided an excellent explanation of the role of insulin in obesity. I had already tried the ketogenic diet, but with limited success. One time, when my wife was gone for four days, I only ate dinner but not breakfast or lunch. To my surprise, I felt really good with a lot of energy and mental clarity. When she came back, she cooked breakfast as usual - bacon and eggs and cheese, which is good for ketogenic eating. But I waited to eat breakfast until later in the day. Now, I eat only when I'm hungry, not because it's expected. I was at 205 pounds at the start of 2023. Now I'm at 187 pounds and feeling better.
I’m a part of a few fasting groups I’m Facebook. I have a supportive partner. My coworkers think I’m starving myself for doing ADF 36-48 fasting windows lol
I find that fasting is easier in the morning because the levels of greline are lower and the stress hormones are up. An eating window of 6 hours. Be careful in the evening because the fatigue make self-control more difficult. So it’s easier to eat a low carb meal in the evening but 3-4 hours before sleeping.

Doc, I've watched you in diet doctor. You're the only foreign doctor that I've heard to cut carbs not just sugar. Drugs don't actually do for the disease. I just found out last January 2022 that I have a type2. After 1month of cutting carbs, sugar, fruits, my BS turned from 218 to 110. Still taking my metformin as my doctor told me. 🙃 God bless! 😊
Watch Dr. Fung's videos of "The Aetiology Of Obesity." It's a six-part series video. In one of the videos, he mentioned how metformin is bad and it makes you gain weight.
This man is god send, discovered his videos in mid march and wow, so much misinformation we have been told for so long. Since starting IF with low carb, my wife, who was diagnosed with t2 diabetes, also in march, has gone from over 200 to 90 on her insulin, lost 18 lbs, and her blood pressure has gone from hypertensive 2 which is was around 160/90 to 129/80 in 3 and a 1/2 weeks. And i have lost about 17, we workout atleast twice a week and mix eating, between keto and low carb . Sleep has been improved immensely, currently on 2 meals a day but somehow managed to do 1 meal a day for a couple days now. All our pains are gone, like knee pain and back pain, i use to get terrible gas when i didnt eat but now thats mostly gone too. Between Dr Fung, Dr Cywes, Dr Sten and Dr Berg, the information they provide makes this so much easier without any doubts, just trust the science.

Good tips. Some days fasting is easy for me.. other days it takes effort and strategy. Decluttering is helpful. Mind, body, and house decluttering... :D
I usually watch Dr. Jason Fung's channel when having my Meals and that helps me to stop eating once I start my fasting window. Yes I also brush my teeth after diner to reinforce the determination.
❤ I really like that you explain clearly the science of fasting for weight loss. I struggle with not thinking about food and how to prepare it as I have been a mother and housewife and cooking is important in this role. With fasting I have lost more than fifty pounds over a two year period. I bought your book the obesity code I’m reading again. I’m so grateful to God there are doctors like yourself who understand how the body can heal itself, and with lifestyle changes we learn to overcome addiction. Feeling lonely is a stress and a problem for us all, isolation is not always joyful. How can a person keep themselves happy even though we are tempted daily to succumb to media temptation, societal pressures and overconsumption of carbs. I try to walk every morning even if it’s cold out.
That was how I remember military boot camp. Only breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the scheduled times. Snacks were never available. And of course, we were doing heavy physical activities before sun up to sun down everyday. Of course after, boot camp, snacks were available, but you rarely had time to think about them because you were training all day to be qualified in your assigned military jobs.
Read Dr Fung's book The Obesity Code! He explains everything so well and it will help you. It changed my life. Also watch his interviews and lectures on TH-cam. It just makes so much sense. Good luck to you and be well 🙏😊
Thank you 🙏 Doc.I appreciate you so much.Since I started fasting 2 months ago I lost 11 pounds Thank God & Thanks to you I always learn & enjoy your program.Bless you & your loved ones.🙏♥️👍
I find I have to be successful just once and then I can make it a habit. I push through to make my goal then I have it in my mind that I can do it. I do try to stay busy when I fast.
Dr. Fung, you gave a really good tip in this video and that is brushing one's teeth. I would like to add that this really helps me and I have been doing it for a while now. I brush my teeth immediately after dinner and once I do that it's like a switch has been flipped, I just don't feel like eating anything anymore.
Thank you, Dr Fung, for your beneficial teachings. They really motivate me to do IF which is extremely difficult for me because my family is junk eater and snacks at any little opportunity that they have.
Thank you for your decent perspectives on true health. i am currently saturated in crap funguses popping through skin etc morphing into leg skin sore cancer that won't heal over last two months ... going into first day fast.....
I've fasted on yogurt and water and I used this fasting for not weight loss but elimination of waste my weight gain had to do with digestive issues and worked with my doctor now I've got my hunger issue under control and loss 100 pounds in a month and now I can "resist.." while lounging at McDonald's..Thanks Jason for your advice I'm a active listener your suggestions shows..

Great tips! I like to share other tips that I learned elsewhere. Remind yourself of the dire consequence of diabetes. Yep, scare yourself to stick to intermittent fasting. Watch a lot of videos from Dr. Fung. In other words, educate yourself. Put a blood glucose chart of prediabetes/diabetes in a place that you can see at least once a day. This is constant reminder of what is your goal. Good luck!
man, Dr Fung is so cool! and relevant! i got most of the books i am enjoying the audio book for life in the fasted lane also the cookbook is great w the pictures and short advice colum

2. Make it a habit
3. Put it on the schedule
💯
Nice!
D. Cox, did you not experience ever hypoglycemia during fasting? Do I have to check my blood sugar level frequently if I fast?
He is one of the best humanitarians in the world today. Smartest doctor out there!!
The longer fasts really help with your health.
Some of the many benefits of fasting on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data:
Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system.
It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue th-cam.com/video/giEDadzoErs/w-d-xo.html
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance.
In most cases no! th-cam.com/video/teQIaU6wp2o/w-d-xo.html
Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: th-cam.com/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/w-d-xo.html
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body.
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! th-cam.com/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/w-d-xo.html
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
What breaks a fast? th-cam.com/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/w-d-xo.html
Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period.

That's good to know about coffee. Thanks!
Hi Jessica!
Cooking for family can be challenging but worth it. I know the more cooking I do, the less they will eat out or buy "convenience foods".

I am now 73 years old, and mostly eat one meal a day because I'm a small female, and my metabolism isn't what it used to be. I enjoy fasting for about 20 hours or so, but would like to get into 48 hours or more just to see how that affects me.

I have been keto for 5 years. 63 years old and now realize I must have been a T2 diabetic for longer than I knew. Anyhow, I am off all medications (for a year) and am in a normal glucose range. Finally, I am able to get into IF without my blood glucose climbing, and I am able to lose weight again. Thank you, Dr. Fung, for your sensible and to-the-point teaching.

Mediation combined with conscious breathing is a wonderful thing to do while fasting
Especially when there is a gap of some hours of nothing to do and emotional eating idea arise
Meditation. How do start? Can u rekomend some books or youtube tutorial? Maybe there is sombody worth to follow on yt?

Thanks Dr Fung....been on IF for almost 3 weeks now 8:16. I feel better. My goal is to normalize elevated sugar and uric acid. To this writing, I feel lighter/better.
Love all your videos and extremely helpful advice. I am A1C 6.4 refused metformin and doing low carb and intermitting fasting 16 hours daily. Thank you for ALL your hard work. God bless you.
3 very simple common sense ideas that are truly effective. Well said sir!!
Been a long time since I’ve watched one of your videos, I missed it. Your voice & demeanor are so calming.
No Better friend than Dr Jason fung for fasting.
i added 20 pounds during the covid hysteria. i began getting back to normal 3 months ago. i learned several years ago to do two things to lose and keep off weight. I cannot begin to put into words
my thanks to you for your guidance and direction, It has made all the difference.
Cool. Do what works best for your life/schedule. It sounds perfect for you. Blessings from Texas.
Thank you Jason Fung for your short ,crisp n to the point videos.I stumbled upon your diabetic reversal video about 9 months ago n am on the reversal journey.I follow 16:8 IF, changes in diet n regular yoga n walking(with cheating on Sunday).I have lost weight, stopped medicenes ,feeling healthy n energetic.Thank u again
Hi Doc, I’ve been telling people about you. Thanks for all that you do for the greater good for humanity. ❤️ from California.
I’m a part of a few fasting groups I’m Facebook. I have a supportive partner. My coworkers think I’m starving myself for doing ADF 36-48 fasting windows lol
I started doing OMAD for 5 days a week thrice a day. It has been a gift. I weigh 10lbs more now
I find that fasting is easier in the morning because the levels of greline are lower and the stress hormones are up.
An eating window of 6 hours.
Be careful in the evening because the fatigue make self-control more difficult.
So it’s easier to eat a low carb meal in the evening but 3-4 hours before sleeping.

Μπορείς να το κάνεις αυτό! You can do this!
God bless! 😊
Thank you doc, I'm novice but I believe in this fasting . Now the discipline ,your videos help. Alot , blessings upon you.
Please pray I am able to manage/control my blood sugar.
So I can have normal/healthy blood sugar numbers.
I want to be healthy. I pray to permanently reverse the diabetes.
I am so panicked, the numbers lately, have been so scary high.
Good tips. Some days fasting is easy for me.. other days it takes effort and strategy.
Decluttering is helpful. Mind, body, and house decluttering... :D
💪🤞❤️😊
Yes!! I did my first 26 hour fast and got a lot of decluttering done!😁
Hi Azalea! Decluttering is always good! I always plan projects or a busy day on my longer fasts. It's great because of all the energy ☺️
We love you Dr Fung.
You were the first and best.

Thanks for the ideas and help.
Such simple tips but so accurate and hearing then are a great reminder! Great video.
Excellent thanks for you sir
That was how I remember military boot camp. Only breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the scheduled times. Snacks were never available.
And of course, we were doing heavy physical activities before sun up to sun down everyday.
Of course after, boot camp, snacks were available, but you rarely had time to think about them because you were training all day to be qualified in your assigned military jobs.
Thank you for your help and idea's Dr Fung! I need all the help I can get. I move a lot, but eat too much 🤦♂️
Read Dr Fung's book The Obesity Code! He explains everything so well and it will help you. It changed my life.
Also watch his interviews and lectures on TH-cam. It just makes so much sense. Good luck to you and be well 🙏😊
my problem is I am always snacking . all the time. I realized I gotta stop that. started IF this week!
😆 "No! You should have ate a more at dinner!".
How many times did I hear that as a kid 😀
LOL, me too!! My mom was so against any snacks between meals!
Since can't get support for fast, installed a fasting app, and thats also good for making a fake feeling that someone is watching :)
Ive been on the 16/8 fast for over a year, eat almost no carbs, and work out 4x weekly. I have not lost a single pound.
Check out Retirement Pirate's comment above.
Thank you 🙏 Doc.I appreciate you so much.Since I started fasting 2 months ago I lost 11 pounds Thank God & Thanks to you I always learn & enjoy your program.Bless you & your loved ones.🙏♥️👍
I am following your advises...
Congrats to Tim and everyone who is succeeding.
To succeed you need to start! ;)
THANK YOU! Dr Fung, you have given me the motivation to try to improve my health. I'm so glad to have found you. Your videos are great!
Cleaning up after dinner really works Dr Fung😀😀😀

He's a great man
I've fasted on yogurt and water and I used this fasting for not weight loss but elimination of waste my weight gain had to do with digestive issues and worked with my doctor now I've got my hunger issue under control and loss 100 pounds in a month and now I can "resist.." while lounging at McDonald's..Thanks Jason for your advice
I'm a active listener your suggestions shows..
How can you loose so much without fat
36-96 h fasts basically is what fung suggests, whole foods no snacks meals at set times.
100 pounds in a month is absolutely impossible. I'm sure there is a typo somewhere in there
@@sehrisharshad398 ...positive fats in yogurt don't cause weight gain and is water soluble
Positive fats are good for you it creates bile for your liver and bladder to eliminate waste and toxins especially negative fats eat yogurt it's good for you
@@monicabostan1081 ..no typo Monica as again you need yogurt to eliminate fats and waste and bile for your liver and bladder to remove toxins and waste while losing weight..
Once again excellent tips and advice, thanks Dr.Fung.

Q.1 can you please explain what should be the best time to start the fasting post partum ?
Q.2 what is the effect of fasting on oestrogen and menstrual cycle in general?
Good luck!
Some zero carb days also good even if you eat them the rest of the time
@@LTPottenger Yeah, I heard a carnivore (0 carb) day in lieu of a fasting day. I never tried it.
