    as an autistic person, the one type of conversation i never had a problem with is small talk: there are rules, i can learn them. Long, complex rules, but doable. Improvising, wandering off the rules, that i can't do, i grind to a halt.

    Well done. Interesting, practical, and for someone that might not be sure if they have Asperger/Autism, it helps describe thoughts and behaviours.

    Yes or no questions don't work at the beginning. Open-ended seems to work better for icebreakers.

    While I don't have any problems, I really appreciate your advice on social skills. But as an aspie myself, I've always found dating to be most challenging and can't help but wonder my aspie self is showing through to the other person.

      I don't mind showing, I just hope I come across as interesting enough to not elicit apathy or indifference.
