I use the checklist function for shopping, and what I love most is that it keeps the order after being checked / unchecked, so next time I’m shopping it reverts back to being in the order I cruise the store.
Another cool tip is if you are using Keep on your mobile while making a shopping list, it will auto-suggest items as you type, and if you add an item that was previously checked, it won't double the entry, it will bring it to the unchecked list!
Fantastic shopping tips, Christian. Thanks for sharing!
@@Simpletivity - And a totally great shopping tip is to have a shopping list shared with my wife so that when she's at the store shopping, I can see in real time what she's already put in her shopping cart. Beautiful view! Not only that - I can add things like "Don't forget the Caribbean rum!" to her list in real time. and it'll show up on her grocery list, so she won't forget the Caribbean rum! And not forgetting Caribbean rum is the best feature Google Keep has! :)
@@ScalexCzech 😄 nice!
Just a fantastic tutorial. I'm using Keep a lot and I found new things here. Thanks.
Scott, thanks for so many tips gathered together in this very well explained video.
You are so welcome, Luiz. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
This was so helpful. I've been trying to use this platform, but my stuff was a mess. I was able to watch, pause, try it, and repeat! I learned a lot and I feel so much more organized!
Excellent. Each time you do a session on Google Keep I find there is something I've been neglecting to utilize. Thank you.
Glad you found this video helpful, Ryan. What was an 'aha' for you this time?
@@Simpletivity ... Search within colors. I use colors for note types and I always forget I can search using colors, images, people, etc.
As a Google Keep user as a mere replacement for post it notes, I am now amazed of its potential as wasn't aware so far. Great video!
Excellent tutorial! - Thanks so much.
You are very welcome, Andrew. Thanks for watching!
Google Keep on mobile. A feature I use extensively is hit the lower right corner 3 dots, from the menue that pops up select "send", this allows emailing of the note.
Fantastic bonus tip, Paull. Thanks so much for sharing!
Or, see my suggestion of using it to send within Google Keep as a work-around to link notes.
@@HarryOrenstein Yes, however when out & about & sending checklists to clients it is faster to use the mobile email option.
I've been using it for a while yet I didn't know these things existed. Thanks 👍
Very nice walkthough, thank you!

Great video, thank you.
Great job, thank you!

Thank you, I'm big user of notes and I still learned things I did not know.
I'm so glad to hear that, Pat. Thanks for sharing!
PERFECT! Thank you!
You're welcome, Cliff!
ooo thanks! I use keep all the time!
Protip for sublabeling: Type > or a symbol in between For example if you have Work, then you could have Work>General and Work>Invoices. This really helps organize things well. It's too bad sub labels arent built it.
I am using code titles for labeling notes in Keep:
01. Family.
01.01. Daughter
01.01.01. Daughter Scholl.
01.01.02. Daughter Courses.
01.01.03. Daughter Health.
01.02. Wife
...
02. Business
02.01. Main Project
02.01.01. Initiation stage
02.01.02. Planning Stage
02.01.03. Executing Stage
...
Google stored Tags in order of number - so it's easy to add new tag/subtag
Thank you Scott; this tutorial cinched the deal for me.
Google Docs & Keep combined have become my 'notes app'.
I, too, would like to see a tutorial on 'Google Workspace'!

By the way is there any way to lock a note so you can't accidentally mess it up as you (or someone else) is referencing it?
Do you have a tutorial on Google Workspace?
Hi , thanks for the detailed demo. Can you or someone tell how to add new info in the same created note using "save selection to keep" of google keep extension?
Scott, I love all your videos! I have a question on how you were able to color and use an Icon with your Family/Work/Personal labels? I use Keep on the Chrome Extension...Is that available or the mobile app.
I'm so glad that you enjoy these videos! For my labels, I always add an emoji in the front to make them stand out. You can always copy and paste emojis from sites such as emojipedia.org/
Underrated app
Agreed.
@@Simpletivity A lot of people paying for other apps when Keep is enough for a basic usage
Thank You (:
No problem 😊
Thank you Scott for all your great videos. One question: How can we print a keep note?
Great question, Daniel. Keep certainly doesn't make it easy to print. Perhaps the best option is to use the Copy to Google Docs feature and then print.
@@Simpletivity Thank you, and yes that is what I did.
Another work-around I use (but rarely) as my Google Keep notes are my personal treasure chest of info.
Thanks! I just wanna know that is there anyway to copy all of my notes on other account for backup?
Thanks for this video. I see that your labels have an icon/color. How do you set those ?
I like to add emoji's so that they stand out even more. You can copy and paste your own from here: emojipedia.org/

Hi Scott, thanks for the intro today on Google Keep. I would be moving from Evernote and was wondering whether there was an import feature and I also have nearly 4500 notes on evernote - so I was wondering how these get displayed on the front page or what you would recommend for this. I currently have most of my notes into around 260 notebooks on evernote. Would love to get any wisdom you may share for this.. Thank you
Hi Gayle, unfortunately there is not a good import option when moving from Evernote to Keep. I would suggest taking this opportunity to start fresh and move only the most important or valuable notes to start. Since the structure is also different, you may need to rethink how you group your notes together. Here is one way on how to do it: www.simpletivity.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-the-google-keep-home-page
Great job. Consider adding upbeat background music. 👍👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯
Thanks for watching!
I use the checklist with reminder for paying monthly bills. The big thing I like is my notes work between my Android phone, my iPad, my Kindle, my MacBook, etc.
Great use of the checklist reminder feature. Thanks for sharing!
is there a way to archive notes in an entire label - or each individually - and is there anyway to order your notes by title - alphabetically - numerically???
We use this for groceries. Is there an easy way to sort through items to help clear duplicates or no longer needed items? I don't see a sort option. It would be nice if you could download and upload the items.
Great question. Unfortunately, Keep does not provide a sort option. You can always copy a Keep list and then put it into a spreadsheet to sort and then paste it back into the Keep note. I hope that helps!
Hi great video do you know if it's possible if I label an item to let it disappear from the main screen?
Yes! If you choose to Archive this note, it will keep the label but won't appear on the main screen. But you can still find it by selecting the label option.
@@Simpletivity Thank you
Does the g-mail notepad still works in the device which has been logged out?
thanks.
You're welcome!
If you mark a reminder as completed, can you get that reminder back if you forgot to set it to repeat?
With Google retiring reminders, will this change reminders on Keep?
Found my answer: Reminders created in Keep will not be migrated to Tasks - they will still be available in Keep, but they will no longer be displayed in Google Calendar once the migration is complete.
@@RayneBlue Thanks for the info!
I wish we could hyperlink within notes, that's about the only thing I'm missing.
How do you get the icons for the labels?
Can you search by date? Not necessarily a meeting but notes you took on a certain day. Thinking I could open a new note each day and use it to keep all of my random "scribbles" rather than a post-its a paper notebook.
Unfortunately, there's no direct way to filter Google Keep notes by the exact date they were created or modified. As an alternative, you could simply add the date to the top of each note.
Great video. When I hover or click in the Search bar I don't see the icons to search by Reminders, Tasks, etc. What am I missing?
Are you accessing Keep from your web browser or within a mobile app?
@@Simpletivity Thanks for yiour reply. I am accessing it from within the browser.
Hmm, that does seem strange that you can't see these other icons. I might suggest testing it in a different browser to see if that changes anything.
How did you add the icons to the labels? Great content btw, very helpful. 🙂
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it! These icons are just emojis which you can copy and paste from sites like this: emojipedia.org/
I'm not sure what I press but I noticed you didn't go over that but I have a situation where my notes is overlapping the other note or hidden behind the other note which is very strange and I don't know how to to restore it back 😢
Thanks. How to use bold or italic text?
This is still a limitation of Keep.
@Simpletivity
According to TheVerge article "How to make the most of Google Keep":
-
"If you’ve got the Android version of Keep, you can now format your text. You can make it bold, italicized, underlined, or crossed out; you can also change the size to an H1 or H2 heading. Look for the icon with an underlined A at the bottom of the note. (Unfortunately, this isn’t yet available in the iOS or desktop version.)".
are archived notes on google keep be deleted after some sort of time?
No, archived notes will always remain. If you decide to delete notes, they will be put in Trash and will be permanently deleted after 7 days.
Is there a search function within notes for the google keep notes app? I only see a search function for finding a specific note but not within the notes... This is quite strange
Just type what you want to search on the top SEARCH box
Is there any way to password protect a specific note?
Is there a way to link Keep with Apple Notes?
нет
Can you share notes with collaborators as "view only"? I don't want people to edit my notes, but I want them to see them.
Unfortunately not. Keep only allows you to share collaborative notes.
Is there a provision in Google Keep app to hide certain notes and accessable only with a Password or a PIN to secure personal data stored therein? I did not find any mention of or ways to hide/protect personal information. Risky storing personal data if the mobile phone is lost/misplaced.
Unfortunately, Google Keep currently doesn't offer a feature to hide notes or protect them with passwords or PINs. This means sensitive information stored in notes could be exposed if your device is lost or accessed by unauthorized individuals.
Wish I'd seen this some time ago. There seems to be no way to jump to the bottom of the hundreds of notes I have. Is there?
If you select Ctrl + End on your keyboard, you can scroll directly to the bottom of the page.
Is there a way to highlight text? I can't find a way to do it. I'd hate to think that Google would leave that out.
Sorry, highlighting is still not available.
Hi. I accidently pinched my note and saved - lost my important information on 26.06.2023. How can i restore it? Can i see and find my notes one day before, 25.06.2023? There is something like duplication?
Please check the Trash. If you haven't deleted notes within the Trash, it should still be there.
How do you place and size images within a note. Looks like they just pile up at the beginning. This is pretty useless IMO for creating a note. I'm looking for an Evernote replacement. Apple notes does not allow image sizing. Google just piles all of them at the beginning. Am I correct about this?
You are correct that the images will be grouped together, separate from the text portion of the note.
I think you can change the image to thumbnail and back to original in Apple Notes
Giving an update. I hated to pay for it but I signed up for another year of evernote. Seems they are doing a decent job of maintaining it and the image thing just drives me crazy in every other platform. I need to be able to move and size my images within a document just as I would with a word processor for creating a document or presentation.
In addition, I like how evernote handles PDFs. One can display them in one of 3 different ways. Just an icon for the whole doc, the first page displayed or all pages displayed.
As mentioned, I keep waiting for a free version of something else to be mostly as good but I don't see it yet.
One more thing, minor, but I like that Cmd-Shift-H gives me a horizontal line in evernote - to separate blocks of text and stuff. Can't really do that in other apps. Maybe some have a page break. IDK.
Thanks for the comments!
Unless I've got this terribly wrong there was no mention how to add the small symbols next to the labels , thank you
I wish an image could be attached to
A To-Do.
Can that be done?
An image can be attached to any note. However, you cannot connect it directly to an individual checklist item.
The keyboard shortcut for search is / …but not working on Mac? Anyway around this?
Could the "/" key be assigned to a different function by your system settings or another application? See if there are any conflicting shortcuts assigned to "/" by going to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts.
I used Google Keep for my Mom's recipe cards. Each note is labeled with a category such as "Cookies", "Salad" and so on. How can I easily share this entire collection with my family members? (Without having to add each person to each recipe card.)
That's a great question, but you may not like the answer. Keep does not currently allow sharing beyond the note level. Having said that, I'd love to get a copy of your Mom's cookie recipes!
@@Simpletivity Well . . . I guess I can't share them then. The search for a solution continues.
For me, the main drawback of Google Notes, is that one cannot insert links to text (apart from converting the note to a Google doc. Lots of times a simple text, like one copied from a webpage, needs to be trasced back by inserting the full URL or creating a note with it. Time-consuming and inefficient. I really do not understand why the "link" function is not implemented.
It worked for me. I copied link address then pasted in a note.,then I opened the link from the note.
@@russireland3662 Yes, you can insert the entire URL and it will work, what you cannot do is insert a link: i.e. highlight some text and hyperlink it.
It is very inconvenient when the original URL is long.
On a mobile phone, how do you search for a WORD WITHIN a note? I have long notes, and all the search does on my phone is select the correct now, but it
doesn't highlight the word within that note, as it does on desktop.
You're right, Google Keep on mobile currently doesn't highlight the searched word within a note like it does on desktop.
You can then use the phone's built-in "Find on page" functionality (often accessed by tapping the three dots menu and selecting "Find on page"). This will allow you to search within the specific note and highlight the searched word.
somehow a giphy vid got added to a keep list. Not by me and not just one. There are about 20 ea of 3 different gifs I have used in the past. I was not about to hover over 60 different vids one at a time so the note is a do-over. How on earth did that happen and was there a fix?
Sorry to hear this, Steve. I haven't heard of a similar problem but will keep my ears out for any news.
My biggest annoyance with Keep is that I can't search for words within a note. Say for example I have quite a lengthy note and want to search for occurrences of "plugin", I can't do that.
It's true that this is a current limitation. An alternative is to use the Find feature within your browser (i.e. Ctrl + F) once the note is open. You could then find any keyword within that note.
So why is it when I do a search for a word, it will show me the highlighted word in the preview but when I open the note the word isn't highlighted?
Yes, this is simply how Keep is currently designed (I don't have a good reason).
Since when i updated my google keep notes app i have lost my all data plz guide my how to recover that
It's unfortunate that your Google Keep notes seem to have disappeared after an update. While there's no guaranteed way to recover them if they're truly gone, here are a few steps you can try:
Check the Trash: Google Keep allows you to recover notes you've deleted within the last seven days. Open the Keep app and tap the menu button in the top left corner. Select "Trash" and look for your missing notes. If you find them, tap the three dots in the bottom right corner of the note and choose "Restore."
Look in Archives: Sometimes, notes might get archived instead of deleted. In the Keep app, tap the menu button and select "Archive." Check if your missing notes are there. If so, tap the archive icon next to the note to bring it back to the main list.
Verify on other devices: If you use Keep on multiple devices, check if your notes are still available on any of them. This might help confirm if the issue is specific to the device you updated.
Contact Google Support: If the above steps don't work, you can try contacting Google Support for further assistance. They might have additional options depending on your specific situation.
Most useful is this app work with samsung watch
We cannot insert voice notes in Google keep right?
You cannot on the desktop version, but you can on the mobile app.
Why we can't put a pdf in "keep" note
Sorry, attachments are still a no-go beyond images.
I like Google Keep. I just can’t stand the fact that you cannot add text or a paragraph if you started a checklist 😓
i hate how on the app you can't search and highlight what you're searching within the note, only if it shows up in the quick preview near the beginning of the note
Using this app to organize my nudes. Love it!
I can't add pdf's to a Keep note. That's a no go for me.
Is it possible to search for a specific word within a long note? I can use the search function to identify which note contains the word but surely I don't have to then scroll down until I happen to see the word??! Somebody please put me out of my misery on this, thank you!
You have covered these in your previous keep videos. It would be better to just make a new when new features are introduced otherwise it seems you are just repeating stuff.

very less options
What's one feature you wish Keep had?
@@Simpletivity the interface in itself feels very small. there could be many options like notes within notes. or atleast the checklists within a text and different types of lists. I saw an app Bear, and it's actually a very fine app with a simple interface but yet sufficiently many features. I think Keep can do smth like that.
Thanks for sharing. I agree that the ability to mic checklists with other types of content would be very helpful.
You say " as well" so often that it becomes a distraction. Otherwise great video.
I agree with this comment as well.
Scott, who is 'everyone"? I'd bet all your viewers are going solo, sitting in their study, TV room, bus, watching you alone. there is no 'everyone'. So, like a good TV presenter, use singular addresses: just 'Hello...let's look at Google keep today.."
Thanks for the input!
