  • We're still waiting for a steering servo and receiver, so since we can't run the truck we might as well start doing a couple of upgrades… This week we work on swapping the tyres and adding a driver.

Loving the upgrade videos so much, I just ordered a P407 today, and some AUSTAR T3021 2.2 tires. First thing I'm doing when it arrives, the front mount servo mod, and removing one of the leafs, and those stupid springs on the shocks. Thank you for the videos.

How much did you pay for yours and where from?

I like all the tips on the interior. You always learn something new when modeling.

Love the build. I bought mine as a rtr, then broke it down to rebuild it. I am currently using a set of super soft red leaf springs from RC4WD along with one plastic leaf from Cross RC, and no springs in the shocks. I am surprised by some of the differences. My rtr came with hex hardware for the wheels and my tires (tyres) weren't glued. So I switched them to Tamiya CR01 Vise Crawler tires. Relocated the steering servo to the front cross member, though this may have to change as I have very limited steering.

That's interesting the RTR tyres, at least with your one, weren't glued. Really wish they'd done the same with the kit.
I'm hoping in the next week or 2 to be able to knock up a 3D printed front cross member with the servo mount integrated, holding the servo in place I can get full lock to lock without too much fuss.

Been following this series and your truck looks fantastic!! Perhaps only one minor detail remains; the window rubber seals. I painted mine with semi gloss spray and some careful masking and the job was much easier than I'd expected. The molded seal features are very prominent and easy to follow with an Xacto knife whilst trimming the mask. Overall, it's a simple addition but it makes the truck look much more scale. Great job! I enjoy your videos immensely -- thanks for taking the time to post them.

I was sorely tempted to add more details to the paint, in the end I skipped a few bits as this ones going to be rolling down hills getting scratched and bashed. Something you could never do with the new or classic Tamiya

Another way to navigate the hand closer to the steering wheel is to glue it in place, and then heat the arm with a heat gun and bend the arm until it's in the right position.

Was thinking about one of these for $200.. I ran a set of those dick cepek ko's instead of the stock bfg's on my scx10 ii xj. Until I swapped those out for some rc4wd TLS super swampers. They were better for more surfaces for sure, but when it comes to tires on rc it's best not to skimp imo. You will end up spending even more if your after a great tire. Thanks for sharing

    Arm goes where?

I'm not sure, Dem Bones never taught me where arm bones go. I'd guess at somewhere high up, probably near the neck bone…

I like it but don't like those fat wheels.
