When I had gotten my last ropefish, he was an old man (at least 10 years old) and not the greatest hunter. So instead of buying the grass/glass shrimp he couldn't catch, I opted to feed him mealworms :) my ex couldn't deal with live, so I bought the canned mealworms. And I would hand feed him, such a cool dude. Miss him lots
Your pond is gorgeous! Those rope fish have gained weight - they look a lot thicker than they did last time I saw them. -Mine love blood worms. I've been wanting to branch out into other foods for them. I've tried sinking protein pellets. I also bought a starter earthworm colony and I thought I would try feeding them those. I didn't think of shrimp. I can try that too.
My ripe fish absolutely love crayfish! No matter how big it is my 2 will tear it up and it’s one of the craziest things I have ever seen the first time happened by accident and seen one of the rope fish flying across the tank spinning like a torpedo with a cray in its mouth
I LOVE your rope fish setup. Someday I 100% want to make one myself!!! I’ll need to get a place I own first though lol. But man, the seamless combo of plants and water if just my favorite thing. AND you have isopods in there!!! And the rope fish can eat them! Mind blown lol. Someday, rope fish, someday.....
ROPES!!!! Awesome we are hopeful ours will breed some day as well Ms. Lady ours love blood worms but they also love pretty much any turtle food we put in for Ayastigi and will eat that too....we also feed earthworms to the tank they are in and they will eat them but you have to get smaller ones or they won’t be able to swallow them which leads to huge ugly tug of war issues that are not pretty hahaha....ours are getting quite massive and we are making some changes to the tank and hopefully they will breed....time will tell....they are very happy in their tank and everybody gets along ....we love them....we hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I'm about to get couple of rope fish. Do you think they would make sense to have a spearate small tank just with shrimp and just let them breed like crazy, and just feed them to the rope fish?
I have 4 ropefish. And feed them twice a day. Breakfast is mealworms, and for dinner I give them mixed cubes of blood worms and shrimp. They love to swim and eat a lot.
@Oddball aquatics i would like to put a turtle dock for ropes in my tank. the minimum water line is very close to the light tubes. would they be burnt? i dont know if to buy one or not.
i bought 3 ropefish about 3 yrs ago. 1 died a few days after i got it, another died over a month ago, & i have 1 left, about 10". I started with frozen bloodworms & brineshrimp, & moved into live wiggler worms, which both, the recently deceased & the currently alive have been eating for almost 3 yrs. can ropefish catch & eat shrimps? always thought them to be too slow to catch anything thats too agile. I have a few guppies in the tank, it would be good if it has been snacking on them here & their
Hi i got my first reed fish yesterday, how long would you expect to see before it should feed, mines is around 10 inches and ive tried to spot feed today but has no interest.
So frozen bloodworms is fine for these fish? Or frozen food overall? I've seen on some websites most of these fish won't get used to it but its hard for me to get acces to living food. And I do not trust the living insects from the garden
@@Oddballaquatics thank god, thx alot! I orderd 4 packages of frozen bloodworms, mine aren't fully adult yet so I guess 1 cube for 2 ropefish is fine for now?
I also saw by carradena it said periwinkle you should try some of those they're very plentiful I bet they'd have fun getting the periwinkles out of their little tubes
I had a ropefish in the past for about a year. He lived with my discus and they were fine together. Him and my smallest discus would share the same hiding spot. One day, he was looking a little pale, and a few hours later he died. I immediately removed his body, but to this day I have no clue what happened. He was healthy and always ate. He was the only fish to get sick like that. He died within hours of showing symptoms, so I still do not know what happened.
i don't have any rope fish.but i discus.i found that the price and how dirty blood worms are is a turn off for me.i started using beef heart.my discus have never been happier.i got two beef hearts for 25 buck after clean the fat off i got 4lbs of usable meat to grind.i can add anything i want to the mix.i having been adding shrimp ,scallops, and cod.
Oddball aquatics he did have tank mates and I got them all from the same place recently and they all died. I had an 100 gallon tank with 75 degrees and good filtration. I have plenty of plants and hiding places to.I got them online and they died very soon after. );
Yes, I have the same problem with my ropefish. I’m trying to do lots of research to get him to eat. I took this tank from a divorcée who was trying to get rid of it and didn’t even know the little guy was in there! He’s super small. I think his growth is stunted bc the previous owner didn’t know what to feed him :/
probally the BEST tip ill give to new aquarium owners/fish keepers fish flakes with tropical fish is a NO (most of da time) pellets will always be ur best bet. for your carnivore fish, even if they are freshwater fish, salt water prawns are always a great source of food (: and in states like texas, cali, and florida (mostly da keys) you can buy some at a fish store EZ buh bye (:

beatiful setupfor one ofmy favourite fish. Great Video!
Thanks for the knowledge. Owner of 3 rope fish. Do you think maybe the rope fish is a seasonal mating fish and maybe within a heavily planted area??
Respect your hardwork .
Great job, Hayley! Pond is looking stunning! Love it!

I’m working on it lol. Thanks for checking it out.

GAMERGOD1356 they probably won’t use it if there is to much light over it. I would suggest lowering the water line.
@@Oddballaquatics My tank has a minimum waterline though and it is till high
Do they escape?
Thanks for making this video! Do you feed them 1 BW cube per day?
Yes when I’m feeding bloodworms I do
@@Oddballaquatics Thank you!! I will buy some today after work.
Nice research. Informative.

I have a rope fish with big black spots on it please help
Do you think they would be able to eat a large vampire shrimp?
Very very unlikely
