- This is off a VHS tape of a "Guitar Center Drum Off" Preliminary 1st round, North Olmsted, Ohio.(He Finished 1st Place) I want to say the year was 1998 i believe! you can already see his dynamics and technique were badass almost 10 years ago!!! He played drums for the band switched also (check them out!! Switched - Subject to change & Ghosts in the machine) before moving on to the bad ass! Breaking Benjamin, one of my favorite bands!! You can easily tell it's Chad just by looking at the way he holds his sticks, and how he plays the ride bell. He truly is an incredibly inspirational drummer.

Chad is definitely one of my favorite drummers, His smooth techniques and crisp performance keep me intrigued.
Chad lookin like the dad that brags about grilling a mean burger while he sips on Miller Lite.
The best part of this video is that about 15 seconds in, chad forgot that there was anyone watching. Just jammin'.
i love chads feel he has in everything he plays...really underrated drummer if you ask me.

Love this solo! You can have speed but the combination of speed and groove is what makes a great drummer like in this solo! Awesome job Chad with Breaking Benjamin!
I still listen to Switched, thats how I found this today. I will never understand why Switched never moved forward.
wow, thanks for sharing this. never seen him go off on the kit this much before and I've seen him solo 3 or 4 times. he makes up for it in his recent solos with his visuals though.. one of my fave drummers to watch. chad is the shit.
I got to play with him a little bit last year when bb was touring.
Was chillin on the bus with mark, didnt really know the other people in the band. But was talking to chad for a while. got to test out his electric kit in one of the back rooms.

I grew up with his band mates in the band Switched, namely Ben Schigel of Spider Studios (Cleveland, OH) and the producer of bands like Chimaira, Drowning pool and many more

he doesnt even look like he is trying....generally when drummers get going like that they look like they've been shot(facial expressions) or something but he doesnt even flinch during this. I cant even imagine what the drumming would b like if he actually broke a sweat...Chad is on a whole nother level.
Maybe because Travis never compare himself to other drummer and just play what he love to do ..

yep....he was in a pretty heavy band named switched...i knew and was here during filming of this....i mean it's almost 10-11 years now

Ach! Then why does Chad refer to Dave as the better drummer? (1) Chad is a great drummer himself and (2) Chad is a genuinely humble guy. Super cool, and sees himself realistically under the shadow of Dave W.

Well, i didn't know him really here in this vid what was like 11 years.....this was right around the time he joined Ben Schigel's Band....then i knew him after that.

Yeah, this was the pre-lim finals....he took first...now, the following could be a lie it's been so long haha....from here-say at Guitar Center (what 10 years ago?) he placed 3rd in the regionals at chicago unless i received inflated stories from employees there, cause i used to get all my gear at this exact guitar center.
umm. I'm quite sure that i knew him when he played for the band switch (then changed to switched) in the late 90's/2000's and was in the room during this filming for the guitar center drum off. I lived 30 seconds from Ben Schigel the singer/producer and his studio SPIDER STUDIOS. so i am quite sure your incorrect.

But to tell you the truth, i was in this video in the crowd for this and i never previously met chad until later, not sure how long months atleast, i ran into ben and he said he's gonna start singing instead of playing drums and then soon got chad. I was like SWEET that dude kicked ass after seeing this haha.

This takes me back to when Guitar Center actually used to be a pretty great music store.. now everything’s just wayyyyy too much about them emptying your wallet and not enough about musicians helping musicians (hell 9 times out of 10 when I ask one of these bozos where a certain thing is they look at me like I have 3 heads, I’m convinced that now they just hire all the high school dropouts that weren’t good enough to work at McDonald’s I swear 🤣🤦🏻)

@MrDrummerboi182 In the commercial music business it's not about who's better. Its about marketing. Big labels try to tell us how to write songs. So we keep hearing the same stuff that these guys know will sell. It's about money. I prefer the really good ones stay out of the commercial music musiness. It'll keep them clean. The artist will pave their own way to something original.

I'm guessing that most of the posters here have never seen Dave Weckl, or Vinny Colaiuta, or Marco Minnemann, or Thomas Lang, or a veritable plethora of other drummers who can eat this guy's breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Don't take my word for it, spend some time on TH-cam and look those guys up for yourselves.
Don't need to spend time on TH-cam. Chad is "Now" and "Then" an amazing dynamic drummer. This is 15 years ago when he was 21 years old dude .... Your comment is ridiculous.
sw1tched I just watched some of his newer videos and I will say he's grown - but he still can't get to Weckl, Colaiuta, or Lang with a flashlight and a warrant.

I mean, I think we can all appreciate a good groove no matter where it comes from, you know? If you love listening to the other guys more than him because you like their playing better, I'd think you'd simply stick to listening to them instead. Pretty basic idea to comprehend, right? Unless you just wanted to give your two cents maliciously. Then, I'd just think you were an internet asshole...
freddysee33 Here here! Couldn't agree more, my man. Chad is one of my favorites, but you won't catch me on any vids of the aforementioned drummers saying they couldn't "get to" chad. They're all awesome to watch.

Ummmm yeah, that is chad, i have known him since he joined Ben Schigel's early band NSB (Not So Blah), they they changed to switched and played ozzfest. Then on hiatus he was asked to join Breaking Benjamin. I know him personally dude. Nice try
