I first watched this video as a 12 year old drummer and was amazed. I’m 23 now, and I set out on TH-cam to find this video again. Still the best drum solo I’ve seen and yes I’m still playing
I've been drumming more than 40 years and believe me , this kid is GREAT. I've seen big time pro drummers that couldn't come close to his talent . He doesn't even need a band . I would buy a ticket just to watch him live !!!
Man, I’m constantly telling people about your “Amazing drum solo” from 2007. Hands down my favorite solo ever. Glad to see you’re back in my TH-cam feed. Thanks for the grooves and inspiration.
I started playing in the 60's all the mainstream stuff and retired New years of 95 from a 12 piece R&B band locally. With the advance techniques and how far percussion has gone, I can't imagine anyone like this Man who has taken the knowledge of the Drum to this advance stage of learning. I know there's lots of great drummers but Elise is so much fun just to watch the amazing use and especially the ability to divide his timing between the drums and other percussion instruments he uses. A lot of time and effort went into him applying himself to go this far with percussion. Hope his career is long and everything he has worked for.
had groove, chops, creativity, dynamics, showmanship. showed great independence, and built up the solo to a climactic point by starting out small and building up using chops.
I have watched this solo for yrs and in my opinion it was the best one you've ever done. You used your entire kit and really mixed it up. If Buddy Rich or Neil Peart were to see that they would be impressed. If you ever come to Vs Beach I'd love to see you play. Thanks Dylan for all the great years. You are one of a kind.
I saw the great Louis Bellson live in the 60s, I saw John Bonham live in the 70s and also Cozy Powell. This kid is right up there with them. I watch this very often and have done for many years. An old drummer says thanks Dylan, you are a joy to listen to. Sometimes I don't watch, I just listen. I hope those three are listening to you from above.
Just an outstanding talent, so melodic, and an insane sense of timing and independent co-ordination. I expect he will be walking on water some time soon........
I'm a self-taught drummer, I've been drumming for more than two decades, & if you locked me in a room with nothing but me & my drums for ANOTHER two decades, I still wouldn't be able to do what this kid can do.
please can you teach me little beat. But I have no money to buy drums and I live in small house but still I want to learn I can use stick and my desk but plz teach me :(
I have to tip my hat off to him. I have been around the best. But I never heard nothing like him before in my lifetime. This guy is bless with more than a gift. Greatest drummer I heard thus far
Now thats a drum solo!! What I really like is when he is near the end of it and he loses a stick while twirling and rolling and picks up another stick and goes right back into the twirling and rolling. Not only a great soloist but has balls the size of elephants. My hats off to him!!
He's only 16 years old ... gulp !!! To be that good at any age would be a dream for most drummers. His independance on each leg & arm is impressive. Some people are born to drum, with the amount I've practiced over the years I'm not even close to this guy ... he is an inspiration.
To me the most impressive drumsolo I found on youtube. Some say influenced by Thomas Lang, but already in the 70ties there was a dutch drummer called cesar zuiderwijk who had this style with double bass, twirling and throwing sticks and hit the cymbals from below. Maybe watched him well?
Man, only a 16 year old, and he can pretty much doing any type of drumming, whether it's jazz, metal, independence, rock, latin, stick tricks, or just epic free-styling. A ton of potential in this fellow right here, maybe one day be one of the greats in drum history.
I've been following him for the past 5 years and honestly I am at a loss when I watch his videos. 16 years old here and he's off chops. Dylan is fucken professional.
Awesome!! One of the best I have watched and heard...and I've heard a lot of good drummers. This guy is crazy!! For those that say its all technique or whatever, you are either jealous or ignorant... drum solos are about grooves, creativity and amazing rhythms...and this guy is doing all that easily. Great playing...WOW!!
i love how the left pedal has been used drummers, his one handed snare roll was awsome to start with, i am a metal drummer and i admire jazz drumming alot, how creative is this solo? wow!!! youtube is awsome for young drummers to get inspiration, watching good musicians makes you want to go play also, love drummers and drumming, makes or breaks a band,
One thing I really respect about drummers when they do these big solo sets is how even though their arms and legs and every muscle in their bodies have to be stretched to the limit, they still always finish with a huge finally. I'm not a drummer, as much as I wish to be, but I do watch a lot of drumming videos, and Dylan Elise is by far my favorite and probably the best I've ever seen. Tony Royster Jr. comes in at a close second. And my favorite single drumming video here on TH-cam is Godsmack's drum battle video, which is second to none.
Alot comments saying he is not as good as thomas laing, buddy rich etc.. what they forgot to see is this kid is only 16 years old in this solo. To me that is ridiculously good. I like to see the so-called best at age 16 and compare them to dylan. Any footage?
Jacob Petero my mate jacob chatfeild is better he is 16 and has played drums for 10 years and plays for at least 3 hours a day as he is home schooled i am a guitar and never seen anything like it
The only comparison is Tony Royster Jr. at 12 years old. Both of these guys are phenoms. This is by far my favorite solo but Royster makes most drummers look really bad.
@@bergerfry I agree. But at the same time, Dylan has some kind of underlying spirit to his drumming that Royster seems to be missing, despite his insane technical ability. He simply sounds more lively when playing, and not like a computer, which, in all respect, Royster often sounds like.
yh id definately turn him away cuz hes no thomas laing. if im picking a drummer to play in my band he has to be god and have superman human powers. he also has to wear a full knights armour and play this whilst fucking a dragon. he has to speak in orc language also. anyone else isnt worthy.
Jeeeeesus. Drummer God. How the hell could he be this good and this fast at 16?!??!!! Simply wow. I stand by my comments in another of his videos that he must be an alien. No Human could play this fast!
@@ethanmau6470 😂😂😂 I'm just as entitled to my opinion as you are and in my opinion, he's a boring and unimaginative drummer. Who said I was a drummer anyway? I don't know how anyone could dislike this, but take it from a guy who has been playing drums for almost 40 years, this kid has skills on another level. He's older now and there are more videos of him playing and he's only gotten better. At 16 here, he could be ranked in the top 20 in the world for rudimentary hand skills. This kid WILL be a famous musician. He just has to chose what band he wants to play with cause I'm sure they're lining up at his door already
un f---in believable, wow,!! and I just realized that he's only 16 years old, Wow again. Dylan my little drummer buddy , your future is wide open. Simply amazing.
Incredible stick juggling! Guys like this have different neurology from normal human beings. I've heard the term "motor genius" used to describe people who are on another level, physical coordination-wise. They are the star athletes who have such perfect control over there muscles and limbs that they seem like they're from another planet. The great tennis stars, and great drummers like this, etc.
OMFG I just saw a video where Dylan Elise in 2016 was playing in Arlington Texas...............WHERE I LIVE!! WHERE I'VE LIVED MY WHOLE LIFE!!! Holy shit I can't believe I missed that!! I mean I got a pretty good reason for missing it....I didn't know he existed at the time. Miraculously, I've only just discovered Dylan a couple of months ago. Which is really weird because I often watch various drumming videos here on TH-cam. Yet somehow I missed him. But still, what are the odds he will be coming back to fucking Arlington Texas?! Oh I would say he will be back in about NEVER!!!!! Dammit what a tragic miss that was.
This guy is freaking amazing. One-handed rolls. He totally utilizes every cymbal, tom, and bell. Keeping a perfect beat all the while twirling his sticks. And his footwork is excellent.
I have never in my life imagined thus done by any person on the Planet. Should be ib Vegas as a 10 min feature. He dropped a stick and recovered is better than not dropping a stick as showed total control even more. Thanks Dude, was awesome.
I am a music fan of all genres. My favourite is Rhythm & Blues. Some of the world's greatest rock drummers I have listened to include; The Who - Keith Moon, Led Zeppelin - John Bonham, The Police - Stewart Copeland whom I rate one of the best technique drummers in the world, and Tool's Danny Carey whom I rate as one the best drummers of all time. However after watching this phenomenal performance from New Zealander 16 year old Dylan Elise, I have been completely blown away by his natural talent
Insane talent like this doesn't come with just practice. You have to be born with such potential then develop it. I had the chance to meet him and watch him play in person in 2016.
Pure music, pure emotional touch! The best drumact i’ve ever heard, and so very much what i’ve been dreaming of when i was a young kid who was playing drums besides piano.
Not sure whether he lost a stick or discarded it from a broken tip. Either way, he never missed a beat, and everything about this solo is superb. I first saw this ten years ago, and keep coming back to it because it is utterly mind blowing. Dylan Elise is hands down, one of the top drummers in the world today, that no one has ever heard of. Too bad. I know that he has been touring the States with Blood Sweat and Tears, and has a gazillion views on TH-cam, but other than that, he is not getting the notability that he deserves .
I didn't know it was possible to be that good at anything, ever, let alone at the age of 16. My vocabulary is not sufficient to describe this. Words like awesome, amazing, stupendous, astounding, astonishing, unbelieveable, -- all are inadequate. Thanks for posting this. Like Saliere in Amadeus, I will now go back to my comfortable mediocrity.
awsome left handed snare roll when he started his solo, i like how a lot of drummers are using left pedals for cowbells, etc, to add to a solo, overall one of the best i have seen, thomas lang, tony royster jr, and now dylan elise young drummers get inspired,
Well said. This kind of drumming is an amazing display of chops and entertaining in its own right, but when it comes to playing music, to say this is overkill is an understatement. Play like this in a cover band and you'll never be invited back.
for all the fools that are sayin theyve seen better, please link it. otherwise i say this is some of the most incredible drumming ive ever seen in my life.
Truly amazing, I'm not going to say I've been drumming for 20 or 40 years like everyone else on hear because I'd be lying however I know true talent when I see and hear it...
Thanks Gary, you nailed it (I'm a drummer myself), I assume also that many nitpickers are not jealous because of their own deficits but because guys like this one are kicking the thrown of their beloved drummer ikons (which is just fantasy- every drummer is an artist/genius in his own right) - which also confirms your view - the world is truely full of depressed, frustrated and selfish egos. I feel inspired not humilated by such a performance ...;)
This is by far, the greatest Drum solo ive ever seen since i started playing back in 2006, Although im a fan of drummers like Roger Taylor, Dave Macintosh and Joey Jordinson, this definantly is a combination of all three, Great work Dylan!
Man some people on youtube are so ignorant. I understand free speech. The guy is young and some are saying he not artistic because he doesnt play think drummer, or has no pocket to play in a real band. ITS A SOLO. You play whats on your heart, you improv, and don't try to be anyone else. Half of the negative comments come from drummers who cant do better. Put some videos up. He is not trying to be like or better than buddy rich or anyone, he's just playing and entertaining. Thats what its about
holeee shit! this is one of the most amazing drum solos I have ever seen (heard?), and believe me when I say that I grew up listenng to my dad's favourites like Gene Krupa and Eric Delaney and have always thought the drummer is the heart and soul of a band (hats off to Ian Paice). My personal all time best drummer is Neil Peart, but this young guy has just blown me away. Wonderful, awesome, magnificent.....

I'm gonna watch this video over and over again. So good !
for all the fools that are sayin theyve seen better, please link it. otherwise i say this is some of the most incredible drumming ive ever seen in my life.
Another prodigy! Nice one Dylan, most inspiring;).
This is by far, the greatest Drum solo ive ever seen since i started playing back in 2006, Although im a fan of drummers like Roger Taylor, Dave Macintosh and Joey Jordinson, this definantly is a combination of all three,
Great work Dylan!
Sick as hell. Better with each hand than most any drummer of the normal world.
Some people are just born with this kind of beat in their heart, this guy just mastered the way to let that beat out on the drum set :D
Thats what its about
Sixteen years old. Amazing. Immense talent and a heck of a lot of practice.
One man, one crowd, one stage and lots and lots of cymbals :D
Seriously nice video!
thats feel and tech all in 1 with imagination and perfect execution
This is why I like yo tube. I can access masterpiece’s like this man playing.
holeee shit! this is one of the most amazing drum solos I have ever seen (heard?), and believe me when I say that I grew up listenng to my dad's favourites like Gene Krupa and Eric Delaney and have always thought the drummer is the heart and soul of a band (hats off to Ian Paice).
My personal all time best drummer is Neil Peart, but this young guy has just blown me away. Wonderful, awesome, magnificent.....
i never get tired of listening to this masterpiece
