    • @jeangt9865
      @jeangt9865 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allenwrench: besides the t-shirt he’s worn, does not depict a dog legged manual, if you are taking into account the reverse gear, it can’t be called a dog legged, a dog leg manual can only be called in some manual transmission cars whereby the 1st or 5th or 6th or 7th gear is placed downwards, as in from neutral slide it extreme left then down, just like what is seen in today’s perspective on a 7spd manual Aston Martin.

    Thanks for another great video Henry, I'm always impressed by your journalism! 👍
    There's little doubt that August Achleitner and his team at Porsche have done a fabulous job evolving the 911 once again but personally speaking I think that whilst the 992 is technically a superior car, the 991.1 Carrera was and maybe always will be the sweetspot of (non-GT) 911 development - a car that was still naturally aspirated (with that glorious sound, esp with PSE switched on), modern enough to include all that a car really needed, yet still analogue enough in the way it worked/felt and with a duality of character that allowed it to be a reasonably comfortable GT one minute and an engaging sports car the next - best sampled with Sport Chrono & PSE as you suggest for the 992 (or the Power Kit, if you're lucky enough to find one specced that way).
    The 992 is a technical masterpiece but I would rather they had left the analogue guages in place (with the one MF display as in the 991) and worked to re-engineer an NA engine to meet the latest emission regs (as they now appear to have done). I hate to say it but the door handles should have been left as they were too (like Mercedes did with the latest G-wagon - some things are best left alone).

    People always forget about the "20 seconds of fun button" in the center of the Sport Chrono Wheel. Would like to see that demo'd. Here is a trick that very few people know. On PDK, if you pull both paddles simultaneously for a quick second, it will go into neutral, allows you to rev it. To go back into gear, just pull or push either paddle. But, if you are stopped, you must put your foot on the brake, and then pull a paddle to get it back into gear. Yes, it is a trick that few people know.

    Great idea to this video. May I ask how did you find the seat comfort and driving position? I sat in one and thought the accelerator pedal was offset a little compared to 991. Could you please do a similar video for BMW 840i Coupe (rear wheel drive) and compare it to 840d and 850i Xdrive? Many thanks

  • @wisruteb
    @wisruteb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I drove one today without the rear wheel steering around a small handling track. I can confirm that the turn in is still very positive versus 991, and the steering is quick and accurate. The ESP calibration is nothing short of amazing, allowing some rotation of the rear to bring the car inline with the steering input.

    Henry Catchpole, amazing. I could watch him review cars all day. Sports exhaust, however, on any Porsche does nothing except annoy your neighbours and makes people think you're a bit of a twat. My 991.1 4S with standard exhaust is pretty loud and sounds wonderful. Cars used to be loud because they were bonkers cars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis etc. Now anyone can have a daft exhaust in any car and make bangs, pops and crackles which is pointless and just sounds silly like all these loud Minis, Ford Fiestas and Abarth 595 you see around.

    Henry, you should try driving the car without the rear wheel steering, you’ll notice a very distinct difference with corner entry speed. The rear feels like it’s actually following the car rather than dragging it around the corner. I’m speaking from 991.2 experience so maybe with wider front 992 difference is not as distinct? But this is THE must-have option.

    I have been a great fan of Lotus cars as I believe that they are now the last bastion of the True Sports car where the focus is on the Driving and the Driver with the mantra still based on Colin Chapman's ideals of Lightness and suspension dynamics. Can't wait to see that episode. Chapman's idea of a driving machine vs that of Ferry Porsche
