@@karakorum2007 Actually Jeff did a smart thing in letting Kelly sing lead or co-lead on several songs ,it was a way to rest his voice and he knew Kelly was more than capable in handling the job It also helped that both their singing voices are similar the only differences being that Kelly's is more nasal with a higher register and his Midland accent is slightly more prominent
The best live elo recording out there. The whole concert is great. I like how the strings sound like 2 cellos and violin and not sounding fake like a full orchestra. 100% live not like nowadays.
10538 Overture is a fantastic song! This song was written by Jeff Lynne. The song is about an escaped prisoner. Lynne wanted to give the character in the song a number, as opposed to a name, and he chanced upon the number 1053 while looking at the mixing console. Wood suggested adding an "8" to fit the melody better.
Anyone who is a real fan knows this was the classic line-up when ELO was an actual band. I enjoy this so much more than the sterile perfection Jeff Lynne has assembled today.

When I first heard this on the radio back in the day I thought it was the Beatles, loved it and most of everything elo did after, saw them Wembley '78 and met the great Roy Wood a few years ago, not only is he one of the most talented songwriters this country has ever produced, he's a really nice fella 👏👍
i have listened to elo for years and have seen this vid before. But i didn't realize what a great drummer bev is. i mean he is good on the studio albums, but he seems held back on them. live though he is a god, i am in awe. elo one of the most under rated bands

An absolute classic, the 10538 overture. Probably the best thing ELO have ever done. In all honesty, I prefer the original studio version but this is ok for a live gig. Shame is it’s largely been forgotten.

And, I might point out at 01:55 the great Richard Tandy on the MINIMOOG Model D "synth solo". Any synth solo from that era was almost always a Minimoog with its wonderful attention grabbing sound.
The two Cellists bring lots of fun to the band!! I admire their good mood I play violin,so Mik Kaminski is an especial idol for me But I think that Hugh becomes the biggest star of the stage! He has a strong presence. I usually watch Roll over Beethoven from the DVD Out of the blue everyday and have fun with Mel and Hugh

I'm sure everyone loves Out Of The Blue, like me, but I feel ELO became a force of nature with On The Third Day, Eldorado, Face The Music and A New World Record. Don't get me wrong I love the music before and after these albums but I always felt these 4 albums were intertwined in a special way. This clip is wonderful and the sound is epic. Thanks.
Thats true he was a bleeder,the grip he uses in this is not his usual so he must have been in pain,Bevs a heavy hitter like Bonam,it takes it's toll on your hands.I think in his book he said he would just tape his hands and get on with it.Outstanding.

He will be 71 in 2018 and his voice is Gold. All his live concerts sound as good if not better than the original recordings...Not many bands and musicians can match that. I ran across this thread a year after you posted it. I literally just saw ELO/Lynne less than a week ago in Philadelphia 2019. I must say, wow, unbelievable performance it was!
This one of my favorites from ELO. I like how Richard is playing Bill Hunt's French Horn parts on the Moog synthesizer, and they also incorporate The Move song "Do Ya" as well.
This was the song that caught my interest when they came out. It's pure Beatles, (as John mentioned once in passing), but it's still jolly good fun, yes?

Roy never wrote one hit with ELO. Jeff Lynne wrote all the hits...
The fact he didn't write any hitsongs doesn't mean he wasn't a good songwriter. He wasn't mainstream but he was very good.
