A really interesting and unique view of the band. I've never seen this before and really enjoyed this. Great quality video as well. Thanks for posting it!

@ 1:30 - Mike Edwards was killed in Sept of 2010 by a run away 'rolled' hay bail while in his van on a public highway in Devon. The bail rolled down a steep hill and hit his van on the roof killing Micheal at the scene.
@ 3:17 Notice how Richard pronounced his Moog Synth (like Moo Cow). Everybody pronounced it that way prior to this century. However, when Bob Moog got back in the synth business about 18 -20 years ago (with the Minimoog Voyager), people discovered that he pronounces his last name with a long o (Moog rhymes with Vogue).so the official pronunciation has changed to the long o.. However,, Bob's father pronounced his last name Moog as in Moo Cow. With all things considered, either pronounciation works!
Жаль, что уже кое кого нет ! С 7 класса моя группа !))) На сумке школьной пытался сделать ручкой логотип "ELO" )) Молодцы парни с " большими скрипками ", так их в Америке назвали !
Great interview.....Bev and Jeff is trying to get Hugh to hush @ 4:44...Jeff's shaking his head for Hugh to stop.....Bev's in his face....he calls his name.....Hugh still telling how they achieved the sound....after Jeff said it took 2 years of hard work. Bev looks like he is about to take him out!!!!! Too funny!!!!
You are talking about two different things. #1)..the technical aspect of how to capture the sound of the cellos (and violin) properly (mics, etc) and #2 )..the "overall sound" of the band, or what some people refer to as the "gelling" of the band itself. I don't feel the boys were in effect, trying to 'hush' the cellist when he spoke his mind. He wasn't speaking of the second issue #2) - the band 'gelling', or their sound maturing, only the first...Regarding the first aspect, the cellist simply replied regarding the technical aspect of how the sound had been captured / recorded on the cellos for live performance. It was tricky back then...when (the Move / ELO) started (71 to 72) sound tech for amplified strings was crap. Apparantly, it was so bad (the technology of the time didn't properly support amplified orchestral instruments such as violin or cello) that (cellist / instrumentalist/vocalist) Roy Wood walked from the band (well, at least ONE of the things that broke the camels back). I'm sure even Jeff Lynne appreciated the quick advances in technology that occured in the previous year (bridge transducers for the strings) that the cellist spoke of. I don't feel he was irritated, or bored. It was probably a frustration during live shows, thank god the technology started arriving right around the time of this interview. Later on, after the interview, the band might have jeered the cellist for being a bit stiff / music nerdy during this interview, but they probably toasted over a few pints later on anyway... ;)
I didn't get that at all. Bev seems comfortable, if only a bit bored, with the straight answer. The cellist gave the most direct answer to the technical question the interviewer asked.
Mik's referring to the advert for the ELO violinist being in "The Sporting Life" a UK sports newspaper. The advert that Mik replied to was actually in the Melody Maker, a UK music paper. Just a piece of pissed up humour, English style. They know that the Germans don't have a sense of humour, so they play on it.
As someone who always appreciated the music over lyrics...I am so thankful for ELO. Can never play their music loud enough.
Great footage. Rockpalast used good videotape, and stored it well. Respect to the Germans on this one!
Loved ELO since I was a child..born -62 and still Love them today in 2019 ❣💥❣
"And how old are you?"
"uhh i can't remembah"
Loved this so much. Been a fan since January 1974, when I first heard ELO when I was in the United States Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune North Carolina.
Great to see the boys being interviewed
I love Bev Bevan's voice.
He was nervous here.
Ben Crawley steel company
He is a well spoken gentleman.
Bevan é lindo
Especially when he sings on one of the songs, I love it!
I worked with Rick Panell in the noughties when he was a Computer Officer at Birmingham Uni, what a hoot to find this early footage of him.
I love everything about Bev. His voice is something to love.
I love this interview ❤️💙😍

Sadly Hugh McDowell lost his battle with cancer on 06-11-2018 aged 65. R.I.P. Hugh.
That's so sad. He was one of the youngest members of the group if not the youngest.
I can listen to Bev Bevan talk for hours he has a sexy voice

At the time, he was known as Pramada. He had become a sannyasin of Osho.
@@astronomenov99 I really liked his character and how he related to people.
The arguing about who the founders were, and Hugh at the end, feels a bit Spinal Tap-ish.
Very fun to see this interview.
I like how High described how he got his electric cello to sound good and eliminate feedback by stuffing the cavity of the cello body.
He also looks like a character from Restoration England :)
