My sister went to jail few years back in the midst of battling a severe drug addiction. At the time she had lost almost all who she thought were her friends and life truly. I went to see her in prison here in the USA. I dearly missed her and wanted to encourage her. I went in that typical room with the two way glass with the payphone and we made eye contact and her spirit was crushed I could tell. I then signaled her to pick up the phone and sang her the beginning "hello how are you has it been alright though all those lonely lonely nights" and she sang the song back to me crying it made her so happy.Just something silly she would know to escape that reality. She now has been clean 2 years now, free and it was a good memory for her in a hard time. Thank you.

My all time favorite musical performer, for four decades now and counting. Jeff Lynne is absolutely brilliant and, despite the acclaim with ELO and the Wilburys, he remains the most underrated, under-acknowledged musical genius of our time.
How on earth did Jeff Lynne even begin to create such a chord sequence, they are so subtle and fit into the song perfectly, it makes the song so captivating ?
To reproduce this as an acoustic version, with just 2 instruments, and reach all those notes so many years (35?) later is an immense achievement and I love that piano. Wow!
Jeff, thanks for so many hours listening to ELO, oh and thanks for Full Moon Fever, oh and thanks for the Wilburys, oh and thanks for Cloud Nine, oh and love Slippin Away and You Got It, oh and Free as a Bird, and oh, Zoom and oh Analog Man....
Jeff and Richard Tandy. A Heavenlly combination created right here on Earth! They sound as good today as they did almost 50 years ago! Yes, it's been about 50 years since ELO first graced our ears with their sounds. A lot of you out there weren't even thought of back then. I wasn't even 10 at the time. Didn't discover them until Out Of The Blue. I guess you could say that I'm a retro-fan. I love everything from the time that they became The Move, and even before. Peace, everyone! Take good care!
Jeff Lynne is the most talented Music God ever. He will be 71 in 2018 and his voice is Gold. All his live concerts sound as good if not better than the original recordings...Not many bands and musicians can match that. Just have a listen from Jeff Lynne's ELO at Wembley Stadium June 24 2017... Can't wait to see Jeff Lynne's ELO on the 2018 Europe and North American Tour. I just received my tickets for LA , NY and Toronto Canada. It will be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This song is the sweetest heartache ever. MANY Thanks for this acoustic version.
"sweetest heartache" - beautifully put!
I never tire of this song no matter how it's played; it's Jeff's voice above all else.
Rip Richard Tandy. You were a great and talented musician and a good man. May the music be with your soul and ours❤
Thanks for existing Jeff !!!! Greetings from Tucuman, Argentina!!
He sounds fantastic. I loved this song as a teenager in the 70's.
Happy days, when music and *people* were real 🥳🎉🍾🎈
This might be the most beautiful song in rock and roll
So good to here these two together .Jeff's voice is amazing
And Richard on the piano brilliant can listen to these guys all day .
What a song. It has lost *none* of its appeal.
Timeless
My all time favorite musical performer, for four decades now and counting. Jeff Lynne is absolutely brilliant and, despite the acclaim with ELO and the Wilburys, he remains the most underrated, under-acknowledged musical genius of our time.
How on earth did Jeff Lynne even begin to create such a chord sequence, they are so subtle and fit into the song perfectly, it makes the song so captivating ?
I agree those chords are so beautiful
To reproduce this as an acoustic version, with just 2 instruments, and reach all those notes so many years (35?) later is an immense achievement and I love that piano. Wow!
What a true gift you are to this crazy world!!!
Blue Days, Black Nights...so much said in these 4 words.
yes...yes...
no...no... The sky is blue in the day and its black at night
D McPaisley; Perfect comment~
..."let it ring for evermore"... sends a chill down the spine
D McPaisley words of Buddy Holly.. so cool how Jeff brought those lyrics to this song! 🎶❤️
+bronco devil He's not through I'm sure .

And The Move.
Dont forget “Real Love” and “Flaming Pie” by Sir Paul McCartney ❤️
Jeff and Richard Tandy. A Heavenlly combination created right here on Earth! They sound as good today as they did almost 50 years ago! Yes, it's been about 50 years since ELO first graced our ears with their sounds. A lot of you out there weren't even thought of back then. I wasn't even 10 at the time. Didn't discover them until Out Of The Blue. I guess you could say that I'm a retro-fan. I love everything from the time that they became The Move, and even before. Peace, everyone! Take good care!
These acoustic performances are in a different league. I wonder if the cameramen knew they were witnessing as well as filming history being made...
This is, in my view, one of the most incredible musical performances ever. Absolutely flawless. Gets me every time.
"The things we did, we did were all for real, not a dream.." The most beautiful, heart breaking lyric ever written
Best musician in the last 50 years and that’s that - gentlemen who has helped so many ❤️
The talent this man has is unparalleled. Incredible musician and performer, producer, arranger, just genius.
He still sounds amazing!!! Remarkable.
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. 🙂
This song was a huge part of my early teens. This acoustic version just blew my mind!❤❤❤
