Jeff gets a lot of credit, as well he should, but he was surrounded by other great musicians as well, and Bev is one of them. Legendary. ELO, to me, is the zenith of rock and roll.
I really hope Bev and Jeff Lynne will get together before they both go to that great rock band in the sky. At this point in their lives, friendship is the most important thing. They did so much together, and they really need to sit and have a pint together. I think they would both be glad they did. Come on guys! You can take a moment, and get together just for old time sake to iron things out. Honestly it's all water under the bridge at this point anyway. The only thing left is having the pint together!
I was a great fan of the Move. Amazing how life moves on since those great times. Music today sucks on the whole it's only the "oldies" making great music these days as far as I am concerned.
Great interview, Bev looks great, shame he’s not still working with Jeff, been a fan of ELO since 79 aged 12. I saw elo in 86 at Heartbeat 86 NEC, Orchestra in Crewe (Groucut the and Kaminsk) and ELO part 2 again at the NEC with Moscow philharmonic orchestra.
60 years later! Bev Bevan has always been one of my most beloved drummers since I was a young kid! I wanted to be just like him, but I turned into my own drummer self!!!

A true 'working' musician, and a legend. He seems quite unassuming about his career and I hope he actually realises how many people love him and how much of an influence he has had on people. I had an ELO poster on my bedroom wall throughout the 80s, and he was on it.
I met Bev, Kelly Grouchett, Mik Kaminski, Louis Clark and the other members of ELO Part II back in 1999. ELO Time tour 1981 was my first ever concert. I was 11 then. I shook Bev's hand and told him it was such an honor to meet him. He is tall too and was really nice. I told him as much as I could remember, it was an amazing show and mentioned the malfunction of Fred the Robot during the show and he remembered that lol. Only wish I had had all my ELO albums, but had heard of their show at the last minute and didn't have time to go home and retrieve them.
I met them all at The Burswood Casino Perth Australia after their show, have still got a photo with each of their autographs over the top....great show, great guys, can't ever forgive Jeff for marginalizing the others in the band.
I met Bev a few days before this interview, on September 18th...see pic! I had just watched him play a set with his band, they were fan bloody tastic! I gave him a portrait I had drawn of him on full drum kit, I think he liked it because he gave me a kiss on the cheek...I went home very happy. I shook one of those magic hands and he also signed my Discovery album, which is what he is doing in the picture. Great person, seems a little shy when not on stage.
An amazingly modest man to be so talented and yet, the perfect drummer for elo. Thanks bev, I think you must be a remarkable human being and very kind. Thanks for all you have done with Jeff and elo. Much respect and admiration.
I saw Bev and The Move do an outdoor concert in The Hague, Holland in 1969. They were down to a four piece band: Bev on drums, Roy Wood on guitar, Carl Wayne on lead vocal and Rick Price on bass, but with 100 watt WEM stacks across the stage and a WEM P.A. on each side they were LOUD AS HELL!! They played their latest hit "Wild Tiger Woman" and man, they rocked. Always liked the Move way more than I did ELO. Jeff Lynne is a very capable producer, but his songs don't really hold up without all the string bombast, whereas Roy Wood gave us catchy tunes like "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", "Fire Brigade" and the pop classic "Blackberry Way". My favorite was one of their last singles, "Chinatown", a unique quirky-sounding song so typical of Wood. The Move never gained real star status, but in my opinion they were right up there with the great British bands. They definitely sounded too off-beat for a 70's American market better suited for Lynne's neo-classical kitsch. Roy Wood cut a few more records with Wizard, including the wall-of-sound hit "See My Baby Jive", another proof of Roy's prowess as writer of catchy tunes.
I recall Bev was a great ambassador for E.L.O during their heyday. Bev remains enthusiastic,engaging and has his feet firmly on the ground. Good wishes to you Bev.
Always saw his name on my ELO records back in the day, was playing the drums myself at the time. But without TH-cam and being a kid the gang stayed pretty anonymous to me apart from their music. It's nice to see the face and hear him talking now. Thanks for the upload.
Interesting interview ..He was drummer with my former husband Singer/Songwriter Nicky James's" The Wild Cherries," for a short while.What a brilliant drummer he is too... I loved that period in time ,it was wild, and life was one huge adventure,most of the musicians we knew around this period became famous that were from Birmingham including The Moody Blues . I remember seeing ELO on Midnight Special in the mid 70’s. Bev always served as the spokesperson for the band. As a newbie rock fan, I assumed he was the leader of the group.
He wasn't the "leader" but a co-founder of ELO along with Jeff and Roy Wood. Jeff hated public speaking (and touring too,) so left the job to Bev who was more than keen to do it.

There's a video of Roll Over Beethoven from ELO 2, when Roy was still in the group. Jeff has a wig made of mylar strips, wearing eyeshadow and other face makeup! That might be the point where he said "I ain't doing this no more", and Roy left to start Wizzard.

But one was The Move “Live at The Marquee Club” the cover has a photo of the band on stage and it captured the moment when a television is being smashed with a axe. I thought I would mention it since Bev spoke about it in the interview . Bev’s a great drummer he reminds me of a big band drummer.
I always thought it was quite a loss to ELO to lose Bev but I never knew the reasons and still don't to this day but thank goodness for the old videos where he was a major part.
When ELO was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band mentioned Bev Beven in the acceptance speech. It was a classy move, because without Bev Beven on drums, ELO would not be the same amazing band it is.

Very likely the reason was financial, so that he could collect a higher royalty rate and have a longer time before the performances went out of copyright, but it was like a message to say the other musicians were expendable. I remember the first record on Radio One. Flowers in the Rain. I listened to it as I was getting ready to go to work. I was sixteen and I thought it was fantastic.
His mother must have had so much faith in her son succeeding as a drummer. She was a terrific mother to pay the thirty-five pounds for the drums and lessons. Just listening to Bev talking about his Mum is sweet. Glad Bev began the drums and succeeded as well as he has.
Jeff Lynne is too stubborn for reconciliation. Bev Bevan is just a gentleman. I would have loved it, if Bev could have had a few guest appearances on recent tours. Especially on the massive Wembley date. I could listen to Bev talk all day long.
Bev Bevan is one of the most under appreciated drummers of all time. He seems like a great guy. I’m still curious as to why he sold out his interest in the Electric Light Orchestra. Is there bad blood between him and Jeff????
Yes, I am afraid there is. Bev wanted to tour as ELO Part II but Jeff was not keen - as Jeff, Bev and Richard (Tandy) all jointly had rights to the name. Jeff sued to stop Bev using the name and Jeff eventually bought out the rights from Bev. Its a damn shame really, as Bev, Richard and Jeff were the core of ELO. Jeff must have has it in his mind to tour again - or at least to have the option - as he now of course tours as Jeff Lynnes ELO.
@@andrewmartin9001 evidently there was some promoter(s) who let people believe that ELO Part II was ELO. Jeff had to keep suing the promoters so he wouldn't lose the rights to the ELO name. Eventually Jeff bought Bev's share of the rights so he could use the name without being challenged.

I have his book ELO story as a loan from the library.I think it is marvellous !I am sorry if have said low opinions about the later ELOBut I think the early ELO was a better one than the later one.
Keith Smart claims that he was asked to be the drummer in The Move before Bev Bevan was, Keith was a childhood friend of Trevor Burton. Keith eventually became one of the two drummers in Wizzard, Charlie Grima was the other Wizzard drummer and percussionist.

Saw BB and Jasper recently 2022. Boy can BB still play drums, and Jasper after a nervous start was hilarious. A great night, long may they continue.

Mr. Peppercorn must chime in and say that The Move was one of the greatest bands in R&R history. It's sad that America wasn't in touch.

I remember the first record on Radio One. Flowers in the Rain. I listened to it as I was getting ready to go to work. I was sixteen and I thought it was fantastic.

I had SUCH a crush on this guy when I was young!
His mother must have had so much faith in her son succeeding as a drummer. She was a terrific mother to pay the thirty-five pounds for the drums and lessons. Just listening to Bev talking about his Mum is sweet. Glad Bev began the drums and succeeded as well as he has.

Jeff Lynne is too stubborn for reconciliation. Bev Bevan is just a gentleman. I would have loved it, if Bev could have had a few guest appearances on recent tours. Especially on the massive Wembley date. I could listen to Bev talk all day long.

I love Bev he is so nice but very talented, ELO not the same without him. Growing up it was Bev and Cozy Powell I liked to watch.
And still has amazing hair! He is easy on the eyes as well……..🥰

What abot the later ELO pictures ?Jeff Lynne accepted only Richard Tandy as a member.Bev Bevan was cut of from the pictures. Sad,
Bev was inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF with ELO. He was invited but had a prior commitment, as did Richard. Roy Wood was there.
Bev Bevan is one of the most under appreciated drummers of all time. He seems like a great guy. I’m still curious as to why he sold out his interest in the Electric Light Orchestra. Is there bad blood between him and Jeff????
Yes, I am afraid there is. Bev wanted to tour as ELO Part II but Jeff was not keen - as Jeff, Bev and Richard (Tandy) all jointly had rights to the name. Jeff sued to stop Bev using the name and Jeff eventually bought out the rights from Bev. Its a damn shame really, as Bev, Richard and Jeff were the core of ELO. Jeff must have has it in his mind to tour again - or at least to have the option - as he now of course tours as Jeff Lynnes ELO.

@@andrewmartin9001 evidently there was some promoter(s) who let people believe that ELO Part II was ELO. Jeff had to keep suing the promoters so he wouldn't lose the rights to the ELO name. Eventually Jeff bought Bev's share of the rights so he could use the name without being challenged.

I have his book ELO story as a loan from the library.I think it is marvellous !I am sorry if have said low opinions about the later ELOBut I think the early ELO was a better one than the later one.
Keith Smart claims that he was asked to be the drummer in The Move before Bev Bevan was, Keith was a childhood friend of Trevor Burton. Keith eventually became one of the two drummers in Wizzard, Charlie Grima was the other Wizzard drummer and percussionist.
Bev Bevan was also a drummer with black sabbath and as a cottage in South Wales 🏴

If Bev Bevan is in the RRHOF it's because of the Genius of Jeff Lynne just like Roy Wood said in the induction speech.
He looks young at his age. Like he said in his book Bev didn´t smoke cancer stickslike the many other ELO members.
he is now 75 and he looks 50.

Kelly smoked. So did Jeff, but he quit sometime before 2012. Jeff was still smoking in the late 90s
