I love these brushless 124017 cars. I am currently working on breaking the world 2S speed record with all factory parts. That's right. All wltoys parts and some applied knowledge of how to go crazy fast the scientific way. Stock brushless motor(s) stock drive line ( amazingly good at ridiculous rpm) but not using stock transmitter due to needing a LOT more range. It's been done by a lot of people many ways but I got something entirely new to bring to the table. I call it my "special sauce" to send this Chinese bowl of noodles into the next dimension. I'll keep ya posted. Great review and great videos. Keep it up!!

@@neilaldridge9261 I just received mine and I greased both diffs. The diff housings had a glob of grease around the ring and pinion gear but the internal gear assembly had little to no grease. Mine had the same wear pattern on the drive shaft as seen in the vid. I just put some pressure on the esc to nudge it over. Off by a couple mm.. all in all, it runs like a champ. Its a pretty fast little buggy with responsive steering. A little cog too. Pretty much exactly like this video review! Good little unit so far. Sorry for long reply. Cheers

Well, some extra wheels as I've seen people bash the buggy and snap a rim. A pair of arms is a good start along with two upgrade universal driveshafts & outdrive cups. How do you think this car compares to a Tamiya buggy? Talking about handling, stability, performance ao precision. For you what is a good rival on Tamiya and other example of a much better option on Tamiya when compared to this Wltoys buggy?
They don’t really much more modern design and updated parts would compare to maybe a plasma edge 2 which would be half the speed and come with plastic parts not metal
How do you know how to put it back together after you’ve dismantled it straight away ha, downside to these can’t get them stocked in uk so bought an ftx vantage which admittedly was a lot more pricey than the wl toys
@@RCKickschannel I need family like that. I must always buy the expensive thing myself. I gave my self a James Cameron d-blue Sea Dweller, and i like it (y) :) Many ours to kill on your channel. Thank you for making soo good videoes.
wonder if the esc would handle a 3660 high kv motor, and if the receiver will work with a different esc, basically- are the components really independent
only problem i got is that 60amp esc is what is called a banggood special anyway when i got my 144001 over a year ago and went brushless brought that esc (surpass hobby) and within 10 runs id say the esc went into limp mode (total cogging stage) and the cogging itself was a issue with me ( i changed the punch to high and made it a bit better) and only thing i like that wltoys have done from looks as what i can see is they put nuts and screw straight trew the diff box on the swing arms as people screws was coming losse on them....
@@RCKickschannel yeah man g8 advice that i brought the 60amp quickrun for 144 and 120amp one for 124 but i want wp verison now haha ...but anyone should take this route to be fair
Great video! How does it compare tons readily available say FTX Vantage Brusheless which is full hobby grade, proper branded electronics and easily available in the UK for between 170 and 185?
I haven't had a FTX Vantage Brushless on the show yet Paul so I can't really say to be honest. I do hear good things about the FTX mind. I think it will come down to budget as one is around £100-£110 vs £170- £180 so that's another step up the RC ladder. 1/10th vs 1/12th also plays a part depending on the space you have available. I should get an FTX really and then I could give you a better answer on what way I would go.
@@RCKickschannel yes you need to review the ftx vantage brushless prob the most available cheap rtr brushless uk build buggy on the market needs to come on channel just picked one up it’s very quick
You did a detailed and thorough review. Thank you. It showed some toughness when it broke your chair. I was confused by one thing. The box you had on display had another car on the top.
I would add some thick diff oil as the car is a bit twitchy with that much power. The diffs run free so spin up super fast. You can still drive it before you do this as the oil in the diffs is good enough to drive around.
@@RCKickschannel metal crown gears and metal satellite gears though not bad for the money, do you think the diffs would be capable of holding diff oil? perhaps gaskets needed?
Personally I'd recommend going to your local club 1st, talk to the guys as there probably will be a 2nd hand car floating about for sale. It will be more adjustable which is half of the learning for new people.
Well, it's just one of those English words someone in the US a hundred years ago pronounced incorrectly and other idiots who didn't know any better started using. Only messing, please save us from the Russians ;)
Not sure on that one, no ETA. The 1/10th needs a load more work to improve it as some things work well at 1/12th but don't at 1/10th. I wasn't blown away with the 1/10th and wouldn't recommend it without upgradinging it. Brushed power and electronics are not great and it so needed a top deck.
✌🏻😎🏴They have a bad rep because they keep changing the quality in the wrong direction 😂. They have a budget & always go for the cheapest deal even at the risk of drop in quality durability of parts. Racers won’t because they suck for racing. Bashers won’t because they suck as bashers. Collectors won’t because they suck & aren’t worth collecting. Affiliates will because .....? (I’m sure most people can figure this out by now but I’m glad you was honest about the Flaws that You could find through your Own Perspective, Observations & have Personally Experienced but don’t forget about the ones you missed 😂) Now the question is will you keep pushing Wltoys or will you move on to another brand ? LC Racing is way better than Wltoys & is worth the price increase. Talk to anyone that has owned both brands & they will tell you exactly the same thing. “WLTOYS SUCK“ Kids will like them because everything is cool until it breaks & it will break often. I won’t because they suck & almost anyone can quote me on that 😂. Wltoys & Bangnotsogood have the same values & qualities in business. It’s all Cash Cash Cash & it’s easy to make them cash when there’s affiliates like you pushing them on people that can’t or won’t be able to modify something that’s supposed to be RTR. It’s killing the hobby & at the same time you’re all saying “I want the hobby to grow.” WORK WITH ME HERE PEOPLE BECAUSE I TRULY WANT THE HOBBY TO GROW but that’s just the way I look at things I guess. Please don’t be like everyone else on TH-cam pushing all the rubbish from bangnotsogood. In fact the next person to say “they want the hobby to grow” & they have videos with Wltoys.. I’m calling “hypocrite” 😂 I will say Wltoys have made a good move sorting out the electronics. That was one of my biggest complaints because it didn’t stay inexpensive once you start upgrading & replacing parts that break on a regular basis. Plus they were or are all programmed for crawlers with a freaking hill break 😂. It’s super old tech/products. They look good too. Especially on camera but when you look closer you will find multiple flaws. At some point you will realise how much cash you have put into the rc & then get upset with yourself because you didn’t put that money towards something with better quality & support. Good quality rc’s are few & far between on Bangnotsogood. Wltoys is one brand we all need people to stay away from if we truly want this hobby to grow.
I was sent this buggy, I reviewed it and then gave it away. What payments or affiliate links do you see? You make some extremely sweeping statements so I feel debating this topic with you would be pointless. Regardless, thanks for putting your opinion across, people can read them and decide to take onboard your comment or ignore them.
@@RCKickschannel I’d ignore me if I had the choice 😂. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to come across as though I was targeting you in any way shape or form. I actually commended you on pointing out all the flaws you came across. A lot of people don’t point them out & if they do they try to justify them somehow. Also there’s nothing to debate Wltoys suck on every level 😂. I’ve heard all the pro’s and experienced all the cons with Wltoys & other brands alike. I don’t know why you would think debating with anyone is pointless. You could have a valid argument. Maybe it’s just me specifically or Maybe it’s my writing style. I realise I’m very direct to say the least & I should probably apologise every time I write a comment. Sorry I didn’t realise I was offending you in any way. Just those people pushing rubbish products on people that don’t know any better.
@Abe Archambault you watnt to limit the burst current from a battery -> C x Ah . e.g. a 35C 2200 mAh battery is 35 times x 2200 = 77 amps. > 60 A rated esc. You don't know the make quality of these in-house branded electronics-these are not the hobbywings or castle creations. Hope that helps
@Abe Archambault lol u do not understand. Limiting the esc and motor from the battery is not a safe practice (if u say so... rite lol), burst current when the motor pushes out a heavier load that the esc burning out when it cannot provide the current required. Take a better look at this car's electronics, and perhaps, u'll understand. Why spend more money on a higher c-rated battery, when you do not have to and what "damage" you speak of
@Abe Archambault And you said you would want the highest C rating possible. Completely wrong. My first reply already gave an example that 35 C is sufficient for this rc's power system.
@Abe Archambault The problem is you asssumed too much semantics on "to be on the safe side". Do you even know what rc this video is about, and the kind of power system it has on board , that 1) it is a 3S batt 2) how big that battery tray is, space is at a premium" and 3) quality of the stock electronics".
@Abe Archambault yes, when an argument falls flat, it heads towards critiquing the person "arguing in circles" rather that the issue at hand. I think your replies speak for themselves as a good model. You are saying to change a smaller pinion and smaller tires? Great, more changes, more money spent. More effort. Thanks to you for putting words in my sentence that, I meant, only, "saying use a low c"? So let's put the questtion to you , what is the "highest" amp delivery for this rc, a 3s battery pack, to be "safe" ? State the C rating and the size
Sir, i just have subscribe and like the video. Hope lucky is at my side and got the chance of getting the giveaway. Greetings far away from asia, Malaysia.
I wish I was paid Lee. Unfortunately and sorry to say, you are just wrong. I was sent the car for review, and I used it while filming. If you watched the video you will know I gave it away at the end. The only income I will get is just like all my other videos, from viewers watching the adverts. The product links in the video are not affiliate links and the code: RCKICKS saves 5% off the total for the buyer but nothing comes to RCKicks. Also no company has ever asked me to refrain from commenting negatively about any issues I find with a product. I think if you watch the video you will see positives and negatives commented on the products.
No, it isn't OK when a company advertises that their product will do or perform in a certain way and it fails to live up to the claim in the real world. It's called deceptive advertising. Saying crap like "It's fast enough for a tiny little buggy" when the product falls far short of the advertised performance by a significant amount (Nearly 25%!!!) is going to get you an automatic thumbs down. I still like WLToys as I own a couple of other products, and this buggy looks to offer a great value for the price, however this is a practice I wish both they and you would stop.
My opinion is It's fast enough for a tiny little buggy. It's my own opinion and it's my video. If you're triggered, don't watch, it's not mandatory. Take the time to get the buggy, review it, film it, edit it, upload it and let people watch it. Simples :)

@@michaelcliffe562 I went with the "drop in" option. 17t pinion and a dinky little 5400kv motor. Bit underwhelming on 2s but excessive on 3s :)
I only remove a few parts so putting it back together isn't that hard to remember.
Wow Great video how about the eat14 are you planning on doing a video anytime soon?
Hi, I wasn't offered one for review and currently all channel budget is long gone for a while. If I get the chance I will review one on the show.
Was that 2s or 3s speed test? Will the stock ESC handle 3s out of the box?
I hear its random if your esc will take 3S. Some do, and some don't.
@@RCKickschannel can you just change the ESC or would I have to change the motor aswell? The stock motor is a good one tbf.
Hi Gav. What was the run time please? Thanks
Hard to say and I was filming so loads of stop start driving. I would say 15-20mins on the 2200 battery.
Nice review, and nice Sea Dweller ;)
Thanks and thanks, it was my 40th Birthday gift from my whole family.
Yes you could swap the receiver out no problem.
Why does is show a desert buggy on the box? I was interested in it with the cage work but that body kind of ruined it for me.
Check the comments below, it’s been covered. 👍🏻
@@RCKickschannel I’ll look again thanks. I didn’t see it when I looked.
Can you buy road tyres for this
Sure
The buggy picture on the box does not looked like the actual running buggy right?
The box is for the two versions that have come out.
@@RCKickschannel - oh I see. Thanks for the clarification. 😊
I was shocked it broke that chair leg 😁😂🤣 I'm telling 🤪😁😂🤣 Cool little buggy mate Fun vid I subbed 🔥👍✌️
Thanks Erric 👍 and welcome to RCKicks :)
only problem i got is that 60amp esc is what is called a banggood special anyway when i got my 144001 over a year ago and went brushless brought that esc (surpass hobby) and within 10 runs id say the esc went into limp mode (total cogging stage) and the cogging itself was a issue with me ( i changed the punch to high and made it a bit better) and only thing i like that wltoys have done from looks as what i can see is they put nuts and screw straight trew the diff box on the swing arms as people screws was coming losse on them....
Try a HobbyWing ESC. The entry level ones have worked well for me but you do pay a bit more £££
@@RCKickschannel yeah man g8 advice that i brought the 60amp quickrun for 144 and 120amp one for 124 but i want wp verison now haha ...but anyone should take this route to be fair
Paid 220 for my ftx hobby shops had my pants down ha
You did a detailed and thorough review. Thank you. It showed some toughness when it broke your chair. I was confused by one thing. The box you had on display had another car on the top.
that box really was confusing to me also. i am not going crazy. thanks
This comes in two variations and that is the other.
So would you say there’s enough grease in the diffs?
I would add some thick diff oil as the car is a bit twitchy with that much power. The diffs run free so spin up super fast. You can still drive it before you do this as the oil in the diffs is good enough to drive around.
@@RCKickschannel metal crown gears and metal satellite gears though not bad for the money, do you think the diffs would be capable of holding diff oil? perhaps gaskets needed?
Is cogging much of an issue for you? Thinking of grabbing this buggy
Yes it was an issue Terry, I found it a bit of a pain. You can fix it by changing the gearing.
@@RCKickschannel now that would be an awesome video that I think a lot of people would appreciate. Love your Chanel
@@customdrums Thanks Terry
how were motor and esc temps after a hard run??? thanks
It was hot but not stupid.
I actually think these would be a great beginner car to head to your local club and get a grip of the basics of racing .
Personally I'd recommend going to your local club 1st, talk to the guys as there probably will be a 2nd hand car floating about for sale. It will be more adjustable which is half of the learning for new people.
Am I the only one who laughs everytime he calls his backyard a garden? Lol
Well, it's just one of those English words someone in the US a hundred years ago pronounced incorrectly and other idiots who didn't know any better started using. Only messing, please save us from the Russians ;)
@@RCKickschannel not with sleepy Joe as our president
Can this take 3s lipo maybe it could do its 75 then?
I think so but haven't tried it. I don't think it officially can take it so it could pop your ESC.
@@RCKickschannel good point is it a 60amp esc or 120amp? If its pretty well built it should handle a low c rating 3s the 60amp
Just thinking bout getting one of these, are they worth it
without
Got to say all the wltoys I have had really impressed me. Especially for the price.
Hi could you do a review on the traxxas xl5 2wd they look awesome but would love to see an unboxing and test review from you on it
Sure I can do a review on the Traxxas XL5 it won’t be until I have budget so I will order it end Oct.
@@RCKickschannel that's great thanks mate I look forward to the video 👍
Hi. Does anyone know if the metal upgrade pack for the older brushed version 124019 fits this new brushless version 124017. 😊
Yep I think it does. No chassis changed apart from the top deck have been done as far as I can see.
i preordered one from bangood.. i dont think it has even shipped yet..
Did you receive it yet?
Yes.. on 10/24/21
I will do a video on it on my other channel
"Not everyboby wants to do RC 24/7 every weekend"...What? What kind of nosense talk is that?...Oh, it was a joke....Haha very funny!
I run a 3s battery 3000 milliamp just have to take out the battery holders and you zip ties
When is the 1/10 version coming?
Not sure on that one, no ETA. The 1/10th needs a load more work to improve it as some things work well at 1/12th but don't at 1/10th. I wasn't blown away with the 1/10th and wouldn't recommend it without upgradinging it. Brushed power and electronics are not great and it so needed a top deck.
the motor is 3400kv or 4000kv ?
Motor:2845 3400KV Brushless Motor
isnt this the same stretch that tomley did his speed run?
No he doesn't live in my area. Kevin is the one whos just down the road from me.
So is it worth changing the differential grease before using it for the first time?
If you want to add some heavier oil, go for it but it won’t be an issue if you run it out the box.
Box art is very odd. Is a totally different car
this or an FTX vantage?
FRX brushless Vantage would be my choice
@@RCKickschannel Cheers Boss. I did like the 1/8 size but I was leaning towards the vantage for spares etc.
“WLTOYS SUCK“
Kids will like them because everything is cool until it breaks & it will break often.
It’s killing the hobby & at the same time you’re all saying “I want the hobby to grow.”
WORK WITH ME HERE PEOPLE BECAUSE I TRULY WANT THE HOBBY TO GROW but that’s just the way I look at things I guess. Please don’t be like everyone else on TH-cam pushing all the rubbish from bangnotsogood.
In fact the next person to say “they want the hobby to grow” & they have videos with Wltoys.. I’m calling “hypocrite” 😂
I will say Wltoys have made a good move sorting out the electronics.
A lot of bang for the buck.
They can run 3S no problem , get a Version 2 and try it on 3S ! They do 90km/h !
Hey could you tell me the best 3s battery to buy for this model? Please leave a link thanx.
@@AnthonyBoutin look at cnhl batteries, they are cheap but a lot of people have good reviews on them , a 3S 2200mah battery is about 12$ i think.
@@darkki94 Thank you sir!!
800th like 👍
Advertised speed is, mostly, can be achieved with a 3s battery pack with the stock electronics. On a safe side, use one with a lower c rating ( < 35)
That goes over 50 miles an hour just have to use a 3s battery
sir sir youre wrong my wl toys says R A C I N G on the box, obviously sir this is a race car
Sure 👍🏻
Box 75 km/h, maybe they are test in downhill...😂😂
i hate clogging... it may just be your car... i will check out other reviews...thanks
Pinion is a bit on the big side. I watched Tomley & Kiwis and I didn’t see much so it could have been my example.

Why couldn’t you race such a car?
Not sure you could find a class to run it in but I could be wrong.

Speed doesn't match the box, but then again, neither does the picture...
Its a dual box. It has images of the two new brushless buggies on it .
Music spoils vid .
you only like them because your paid too
I wish I was paid Lee.
Simples :)
WL Toys are leaving Tamiya behind in terms of just about everything.
Tamiya are just stuck in the dark ages a shame as would love a rtr tamiya brushless with all decent metal running gear as they look the part but just are cheap plastic
@@cutterbacon explain
@@cutterbacon so the modern brushless buggies that come with metal gears ball raced and same price are not better then? Yes tamiya are nice and nostalgic but they’ve not moved with the times even my local hobby store said they’re junk and I was gonna buy one off him
@@cutterbacon haha yeah tbf wish I’d just bought a hornet half the price and not to quick so wouldn’t of smashed it up
