  • Unboxing the new RC buggy from WLToys and seeing just how far the company has progressed. What has changed and what has been improved. Has anything become worse and would I recommend the new 124008 buggy to anyone? In this video, we take a deep dive into this new product and compare all aspects of it against the massively successful 124019 buggy that helped put WLToys on the map.

    i really wanna see them make a competeitive 1/8 and 1/10. Just sell us a kit and let us build it and i think it would sell like crazy as it would give an amazing pricepoint for new racers to join because right now your looking at like 1000 just to get started with a used setup.

      With some upgrades to make up for materials quality issues, the 104001 _is_ a competitive 1/10th scale 4WD buggy as it's a direct clone of the 2016 XRAY XB4.
      As for 1/8th scale, why is everyone so hesitant about the Serpent SRX8-E RTR, Kyosho Inferno MP10e Readyset and HoBao Hyper VS2? Unlike 1/10th scale, 1/8th scale hasn't developed towards overspecialized carpet missiles because they've stayed on rough, loose dirt surfaces, and dirt helps keep car design from getting out of control by introducing tradeoffs for things that would be obvious solutions on smooth surfaces. As a result, 1/8th scale platforms have remained roughly the same for the most part, with small optimizations and tweaks rather than the huge overhaul we saw with the 1/10th scale scene when the 22 and B5 came out, and as a result even older designs are still competitive. As a result, _most_ 1/8th scale buggies are competitive, even the Exceed stuff to an extent if you're willing to take a risk on their plastics. As such, for 1/8th scale buggies there's no reason not to go with an RTR or budget roller to start, rather than a full competition kit.

    I have a heavily upgraded 124019 brushless conversion. It is a ton of fun but even with all the upgrades its still a bit fragile in unexpected places. I could smash a curb and its fine, but flip in grass and I'd bend a cvd. This new chassis looks a lot more predictable in its durability.

    I bought the 124008, found all the steering parts to wear out really fast, really sloppy within a few battery packs, servo saver also wore out around the same time, no upgrades available so stuck buying the same crappy parts.
    When I replaced all the steering, the tires had worn out so I replaced with a slightly larger set and blew the rear diff on the first run, once again no upgrade parts so stuck buying the same crappy parts, also the stupid plastic motor mounts makes gearing changes difficult. I've had it for a month and already shelved it.
    Should have bought the old one, there's heaps of upgrades available for that one.

    Not really a fair comparison without including the 124017 , which is what I have . First was the 124019 brushed then 124017 brushless then 124008 . The 124017 is a lot faster than the 124019 . Color of the body shell , battery lay out , and chassis pan are the only real difference than the 124017 . Parts from all will fit each other as they are the same .

    I have only seen one WPL buggy and it was the 124019. Immediately was impressed with how smooth the car is. It was the brushless version and on pavement it was much more like a touring car then a buggy. It was fast, so the weight wasn't excessive but it did have a solid feel to it weightwise. It was impressive for a Bang Good car. Quiet, seemed like the gear mesh was really precise.
    I like the look of new chassis with the hexagon stiffeners molded in. Is the bottom half of the diff housings molded as part of the chassis? Personally I like the upper and lower diff housing halves as separate parts. It makes the potential for metal upgrades more likely. I am not a fan of the new one's higher stance and the non adjustable upper suspension arms are not a plus on my score card.

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ok, on the chassis, the materials on the older design could have been better but by moving from an aluminum plate to a plastic tub it's actually a MAJOR downgrade design-wise. You see, these days, even smaller cars generally have more than enough power to run an aluminum chassis plate, and having an aluminum plate lowers the CG of the car significantly, which increases stability and makes the car feel more planted. I guarantee the 124008 is going to be more prone to both spinning out and traction rolling compared to the 124019. And with the recent price hikes for WLToys, they could have put that into finding a good source of at least 6061 aluminum.
    I used to respect WLToys uniquely among the Chinese "cars with long sequences of numbers" brands for being able to show how a high-end racing model (A lot of WLToys' cars are LC Racing clones, except for the 104001 which is an XRAY XB4) can be made into an entry-level RTR at a budget price. But now they're just trying to copy the basher brands. I bet the next version will ditch the camber links for fixed suspension links and the dogbones for plastic telescoping driveshafts.
    That's not to say they haven't moved forward. It definitely looks like they've improved the materials quality. It's just that in upgrading the materials and build quality they've downgraded the design in the process.
