I have this saw. I like the rear handle design. All my worm drive saws are SKIL... they should know how to do it, they invented them. Great channel, keep up the honesty.
Impressive tool. If I wasn't already in the Metabo battery line I would consider Skil. I have some of their corded tools which have been great, and their battery platforms always seem to get great reviews. Their 12V line in particular seems to be highly recommended. On a personal note, I really like your calm unscripted straight talk. Just a guy saying what's on his mind. I think this channel deserves to grow, and I hope you don't change anything.
I have zero experience with Metabo or Hitachi. Been looking forward to checking them out. This Skil is really good. Considerably more power than my M18 fuel Milwaukee with a 9ah battery. I’ll be finding a spot for that huge charger and keeping this one around for while. This channels been fun and a lot of work and comments like this mean the world. Thank you!
The Skil would be even better if it could match the size and weight of the Metabo HPT - those extra couple of pounds on the Skil can really add up over time. It is a really nice looking saw though.
I'm a contractor and I'll be honest - I frickin love Skil saws. We run Metabo HPT impacts and drills alot Hilti, Makita, Milwaukee and DeWalt laying around but the circ saws are all Skil because they're awesome. I'm not kidding.
Do you know if the shoe is bolted onto the saw on the bottom of the shoe plate with 2 bolts? At 8:23, it looks like there are 2 bolts holding the shoe on, which would indicate the ability to adjust the parallelism of the shoe with the blade. I had to return a Milwaukee #2732 flagship model M18 cordless 7 1/4" right blade saw, because the shoe was not aligned to the blade, on 2 different saws I tried, and there is no way to adjust the riveted and pressed Milwaukee which has no bolts anywhere to adjust.
Skil has stepped it up a level the last year making a bunch of great tools. They are perfect for DIY and are there quality and specs are borderline professional grade. Only time will tell if they hold up like the pros do but Skil Saws have always been a go to on job sites and professional grade.
Seems like a very good saw but dont think I will like having to use two batteries these rear handle saws are already heavy out of the box and two batteries make it heavier as far as battery platform I am already setup for DeWalt and Ridgid power tools they both make the rear handle saws and only need one battery so may go that route but fantastic review on this Skil saw 👍and Subscribed
Would you recommend this over the corded worm drive. Ill pretty much only use it home, so cord isnt an issue but obviously nice to cut the cord. Just figured for the same price, worm drive or cordless is the decision to make
Personally I love my cordless tools and rarely use my corded ones anymore. Although I still have a full set of corded Milwaukee. Most cordless tools now have gotten so good I can’t see myself busting out the wormdrive unless it’s for a full day of sawing. Although own enough batteries to probably saw indefinitely. If you don’t mind the cord and want a saw to will to your kids the worm drives are still tough to beat. Thanks for watching!
@ProjectsForAllReviews Thank you for the reply. Quick question, does it require 2 batteries to operate, or is that just to extend its run time and if one works, will that reduce power or just shorten run time. Thank you again in advance
I'd get the corded worm drive if you are going to be doing heavy cutting a lot. Being at home and around an outlet I'd go with the corded saw...lots of torque with those worm drive motors. I have the Skilsaw worm drive circular saw and I recently purchased the Skilsaw Worm Drive 10" jobsite table saw as well...the table saw has tons of power as well. Can't go wrong with the worm drive, and can't go wrong with a cord when you are close enough to an outlet. I've got cordless tools too, but its nice to just plug a tool in and not have to worry about battery life when I'm busy with a project close to the shop where I can just plug a tool in and work.
Great video, and congratulations on the new opportunity. I had a little trouble hearing you in the middle of the review though. Edit: it turns out, my wife was pranking me by turning down the volume…
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Yeah I’m sorry about that. I was trying to be helpful, then realized that I probably just freaked you out so edited the message. I really enjoy all of your content. Looking forward to the next one.
Well, there you go. My problem when I bought the 20v model, the battery didn't provide enough power to get through what I was working on. And, how did you know that I use the kitchen counter as a recharging station? That's a slick looking machine and the price point looks good; though, I'd like to have a hook into getting some gear for free ninety-nine (that's the best).
This one needs both batteries installed to run. Comes with a pair of 5ah and a nice dual charger. I still use this saw and still love it. It's a fair deal at $250 but for $129 buy it quick! Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews : I was hesitate to get this Saw, and considering the battery is too expensive, I finally got another Brushless Circular Saw in Harbor Freight Tools.
Got a brand new saw for Christmas and just went to use it for the first time. Got the saw blade on and it won't turn. Realized the spindle lock button is stuck in lock position and we can't budge it. How do you get the spindle lock button unstuck?
This is $130 at lowes right now. If you are in the Skil 20v ecosystem, that is worth it just for the batteries and charger. That price is actually insane. Lowes has good deals on a few other 20v skil products right now too. $80 for brushless drill and driver combo is the other excellent one besides this.
Fun video. That thing is a beast. Seems like a great commercial or heavy DIY saw. I'm curious about the Makita 36v or Dewalt 60v comparison to this one for features and power. Just a thought. Congrats on the product review merch. It's a great compliment about your channel .Keep up the good work.
Hey Bill! Im curious about that comparison too. Hopefully we can get some other big circ saws in here soon. Skil even makes a 16 5/8 inch circular saw. Now that would be a cool review! Thanks as always!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews, I've seen videos on that big saw. Mainly used for cutting wooden I-beams if I am correct. Not sure if that is available in a cordless version.
Honestly it’s been a year of reasonably light use but still as good as I showed in the vid. This is just more saw than I need personally for daily quick cuts and I’ve gotten into the habit of reaching for the Flex inline because I love the balance and don’t often need the depth or reach. It’s heavy but it’s a beast of a saw. We’re probably going to build a large shed soon and I’d take this over my Mag 77 because it’s cordless. I just checked to see if the price went up and Acme tools has the kit on sale for $199. For that price it’s a no brainer. Good luck and thanks for watching Mike!
That's a ridiculously good deal!! The two 5ah batteries and dual charger are with more than that IMO. Good luck with the new saw and thanks for watching!
That's a Serious Saw and CHERVON OWNS them and FLEX and EGO and makes KOBALT for LOWES that BATTERY CHARGER sounds just like my FLEX and EGO nice and LOUD but there KOBALT chargers are very quiet
I really think the Flex circular saws are significantly better than the Milwaukee saws. There are several reasons why. They are cheaper, can be had with a stacked lithium battery much cheaper than the Milwaukee. $299 for the Flex with a 10AH stacked lithium pouch cell battery, versus about $500 for the M18 saws with a Forge stacked lithium M18 battery. But the M18 Milwaukee saws are not bolted together, all the parts are riveted, which means you cannot adjust the shoe. My Flex right blade 7 1/4" saw has an adjustable shoe, and the shoe is absolutely perfectly aligned, (perfectly parallel to the blade) out of the box. The Milwaukee (I tried 2 of them) were both .020" out of alignment, so the shoe was not parallel to the blade. The Milwaukee saws were not able to complete a fine precision cut using a straight edge, because they would leave blade marks on the kerf. The Flex saws leave no blade marks, both my Flex saws I bought are perfectly aligned out of the box. And finally, the Flex saws have outstanding dust control ports, and the motors sound much gentler on the ears. The Milwaukee brushless circular saw, model #2732, has an intrusive gear and motor whine.
@@ProjectsForAllReviews and based on your review I think I'm going to give one of those a try I was interested in the power core stuff in the first place but getting to see the saw do its thing I definitely want one now
Hey GREAT video... I had this saw for just over a year now and the only thing I've changed is the blade, I swapped in a 48 tooth... Btw I think the dust port is supposed to disconnect if snagged to prevent the saw from being yanked out of your hand if it gets caught on something...
I was just looking at the M18 rear handle last weekend. A friend showed me hers because I just did this vid. She loves it. I’m trying to borrow it from her to do a similar vid to this one. What didn’t you like about it?
