I purchased a simple corded version of makita after watching your review of it. Being a hobbyist I could not justify going for a cordless version as it was very expensive and corded gave me enough power to break down plywood and even hardwoods if needed. Thanks again!
I am rather bored with tool reviews, particularly on tools I don't plan on buying. And yet, I always watch yours and learn something in the process. I should have better blades in my basic circular saws.
@@deathmetalsl Same. I wish SBD would revive Porter Cable as a high end brand instead of using it as a budget entry. They'refully capable of building a track saw that could rival best in class offerings.
@deathmetalsl when I was looking to buy my first track, DeWalt was second on my list. When I did my homework, they fell off the quickly. If they wanted to be different, then they should have made a left blade track saw.
Wow, this review added new meaning to the word “snipe”. Seriously a great review and your first on my watch list for reviews! I have a Milwaukee track saw largely because of your initial review. It didn’t hurt that I already had the battery platform and drive a red and black truck.
I've had a kickback on the Makita, and the motor stopped once it lifted and the resistance on the blade reached a certain level. I can't say it was a feature or just a happenstance, but it did shut off
I’ve experienced the same thing with the makita, and the kickback was totally my fault, i was cutting plywood on sawhorses with without enough support, but the motor definitely stopped when the blade caught, saw backed up maybe a half inch
I see what Drew is doing here - this is the High School Jock treating the girl he wants to take to prom like total trash so she will desire him even more approach. Ergo, Drew really loves the Ryobi and their system. All the identified shortcomings are really just cute little quirks that have bamboozled him. Also- how did Drew know I was working on an epoxy trash river table project? Seriously though - the international track saw cabal has put a bounty out on Drew. I read that on Reddit so is absolutely factual.
A damn fine video. Delightful as always. If there is no punishment for poor performance and no incentive for good performance there will be no good performers.
I have the plug-in version of the Makita, I love the saw. The only issue I have is that the depth gauge does not appear to take in account the thickness of the track. Dave Couch
Great review, thanks! Regarding Makita's lack of anti-kickback they do sell a "Kickback Reduction Stopper" (part no. 1913J9-2). Probably not as effective as a riving knife or electronic system. And as for Festool not having anti-tipping, I heard the reason is anti tipping mechanisms have play on them so proper technique to ensure accuracy is to always have a hand pushing down on the base, and if users are doing that, then what's the purpose of the anti-tip? One could argue that it's for when the saw is not in use and just sitting on the track, but from my experience then the saw just tips the track over too (at least with 1400mm Makita tracks and corless saws). As for my favourite. Also TS 60. Have had all 3 Makitas (last one being the 40V) and moved to the corded TS 60 as most of my work is in a shop. And luckily I live in one of those countries that gets the 240V plug-it cord version of the TS 60 so I just have a plug-it cord permanently attached to my Festool dust extractor hose. It's almost like being cordless, haha
Great video and I appreciate the balance of details/nuance while skipping the boring parts! Thank you for the expense and effort to put this together 🎉
You paid HOW MUCH for a Ryobi tool? I consider them mostly disposable, useful if Harbor Freight doesn’t have what you need in stock. My time has value and Ryobi disrespects it
Nice video. What i miss in almost al review videos is repairability. These are tools and tools that require maintenance and brake down. Im not a makita user, but they shine in this area. And Milwaukee sucks. If your trigger switch fails, you need to replace the moter as well😮.
Motors' sounds: difficult to chose from the Makita 40v, festool and Dewalt but I would say probably the Makita. Great review and great video to watch 💥
One note. When butting two tracks, leave a little gap. The edge may not be perfectly square because it got bumped/warped etc. And Benchdog UK makes a square rail for DeWalt saws. But it's better to buy the Festool tracks as you have more accessory options.
Since I will *ALWAYS* be using dust collection with a track saw, I simply can't see any reason to not get the less expensive corded version. Simply use a woven "cord organizer" used to organize the rat's nest of cords under your desk to make a single package out of the dust extraction hose and the track saw cord and you get something that has exactly the same ergonomics of a cordless saw still anchored to a dust extractor by a hose.
Good reviews, but nothing I saw here will make me "upgrade" from my corded Makita I bought years ago for $300 all in. I clip the cord to the dust extractor hose and the DE activates when I start the saw.
Regarding Festool, in a recent test on a German channel the tester complained that the saw was not stable at 45deg. I.e. small forces on the saw wobbled. Might be something to check when testing tracksaws.
I have the Dewalt and your absolutely right about the review. when it comes to the Track clamps if you do a little light work with a grinder to the back of the track clamp you can get clearance for them to work. Not much material has to come off and they still work fine after. I have 4 Makita clamps i use with my dewalt tracks after the slight modification.
Very comrehensive review . I actually own 3 of these cordless brands and ....the Luxury Festool saw that you prefer. I second you on the opinion of the Festool ! I use that in the shop ! The Millwaukee is a tank and just feels like quality , the tracks are also heavy duty ! The Makita is smooth but , not really a fan of the dual battery system. The circus model is a cheerful high visibility color and 60 volt is powerful ! The bonus for me is that you can cut on both sides of the Dewalt guide rail ! I process plywood sheets , bevel interior doors . The idea of not windmilling a long track is a great benafit for me !
Get out of my head! I recently started shopping for a 3D printer only to have you drop a video on them almost immediately. Yesterday I started shopping for a track saw and now this drops. WTH? For your own good get out of my head, it is a very dark and disturbing place and I don't wish it on anyone.
The Ridgid is really designed for a higher amp battery. When they sell it as a kid, it comes with an 8.0 amp battery. That being said, I use mines with a 4.0 battery all the time, because I didn’t feel like opening the 8.0 battery. But I’m just cutting plywood, so it’s no problem
Yeah, I'm thinking either the 4amp battery dropped in voltage and the saw's internal electronics refused to use it, or the battery overheated and a thermal safety mechanism kicked in.
I have only used a 6ah on mine and have never had a problem. I have also used 3 tracks without clamps and had no movement and the dust collection is great once i bought a plug
just out of curiosity, what would be the score and tier for makita 40v if it had the electronic kickback protection and if it cost 150 less like it does in europe?
I've been generally happy with my Wen tracksaw, that is until recently. While making a cabinet I needed to cross cut some panels to an accurate 45* angle. The scale on the side is trash when choosing your angle. I had a hard time getting it right on 45 and had to use some clamps to extend the blade and the used my digital angle gauge to ensure the blade was at 45*.
I've never been a huge riving knife guy on track saws - but one time a few months ago I was ripping a hardwood board I thought was dry and it pinched the saw and it jumped the track. I was using the Festool and it shut off immediately. Scared me. If only cutting plywood, not needed in my opinion.
Thanks Drew....I know this doesn't make any sense, but I recently installed butcher block counter tops at my daughter's. I bought the 24 tooth blade from makita to make the rips cuts, but honestly, the 64 tooth blade winded up giving me a much cleaner cut on the rips. Idk, I'm just saying. I've got the makita. Would really like to get the festool 60 when mine dies. Unfortunately, as little as I really use it, I doubt that'll ever happen.
Home rigid user here, overheating batteries is pretty common and probably my biggest complaint. Impacts drills and even their portable power source, I've had them all shut off from heat. Their tools are capable of pretty good performance especially for the price but their batteries overheat verry easily. It might just be the temperature cutoff (I've have M12 batteries that get verry hot also but keep working) or it might be a design flaw.
DeWalt saw is a toy joke.Seriously under engineered to be cheap. What a shame and lot of their drills have clutch issues.Getting tired of people worshiping a brand instead of their products.
I love your approach to reviewing, especially since you don't do reviews! I had only one complaint with my Milwaukee Track Saw, and yes, you my friend solved it for me with your perfectly fitting dust cover! (and no I am not sponsored by wittorks). Keep up the great work.....
Wow, that was a lot of information. If I could make a video, that one would have taken me a couple of months to do. Thanks for sharing. I have the Ridgid - it works fine for me but I would rather have the Milwaukee - just couldn't justify the red system for my occasional playtime in the shop.
I appreciated all of the soundtrack choices the most. I love my milwaukee and was unaware at how good I have it. I also was too dumb to ever know that the splinter guard is for the other side and will now use it.
Nice video good points I brought my MIlwaukee in to my store and let the Festool rep have a go with it and he gave Milwaukee props for making a good saw while only usaing one battery. But I think the most memerable moment of this video would be the circus music with the Dewalt saw.
love my Dewalt Tracksaw. I use it with the dovetail clamps. Mine was $300 bare tool since I already had batteries. Powertech tracks were $90. Not sure where you shop but that puts it in the ballpark of the cheaper HD saws. The motion is different but you get used to it quickly and dust collection is pretty good
@@wittworks Love the video, but you got ripped off if you paid over $600 for the Dewalt. List price (according to the Zon) on the kit with battery and track is only $549, currently on sale for $518 but has dropped as low as $399 according to the camels. Agreed it's a weird plunge compared to other saws, but I love mine too and it gets a lot of use. Also FYI, the Wen clamps work perfectly with the Dewalt track.
I own the corded version of the DeWalt track saw, and it’s a solid saw that eats ANYTHING you put it on. However, my cordless track saw is the Milwaukee for all the reasons listed in this video. I’ll still use both, but I’ll likely buy a second Milwaukee over ever buying the cordless DeWalt. The Festool is fine if you don’t overuse it. I’ve seen production carpenters complain about Festool tools dying due to their overuse of the tools. I like not having headaches. So contractor favored tools catch my eye more often than not.
Thanks for all the work you put in with these videos. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but have you come across the Mafell MT55 18v tracksaw?
@@wittworks Hmmmm, interesting reply - as nuanced as your videos - I wasn't aware that all makes of cordless tracksaws didn't already have a corded version. But I digress - if you have the opportunity to borrow a Mafell off someone and give it a spin, you may be pleasantly surprised, and of course keep your marriage intact. 😃
True. Or was it BlackRock? According to Google: "Jeff Bezos is the largest individual shareholder of Amazon, owning 9.02% of the company's shares. However, institutional investors own nearly 63% of Amazon's shares. Some of Amazon's largest institutional shareholders include: Vanguard Group, BlackRock Inc, State Street Corp, and Fidelity Management & Research."
luckily in europe standard tracks are 60" (1500mm) long :) yeay ryobi is shockingly bad, idk what they were thinking. yeah battery was a weak link, standard 4ah is not enough for a powerful circ saw, that is why makita and festool went with two. larger pack like 6 or 8ah with 21700 should be optimal
Taking your work to the driveway on some sawhorses and using a straight edge will get the job done. I thought I needed a track saw but after a few months of actual woodworking instead of tool collecting I realized nobody needs a track saw.
So i actually need to come to the defense of the WEN track only. I bought it to use with the Milwaukee track saw and its perfect for it. As for the anti slip backing, I haven't had any issues with it, so maybe thats something that happens on mdf like your table. The track doesn't advertise as being for the Milwaukee track saw, but I can attest that it does.
I really like the quality of their track. Thought it would be trash. I am pretty it’s identical to triton. I have both and the only visible difference is a branding sticker.
I do not own a track saw but have multiple battery systems, definitely no Festool, but do have Hilti. The one thing I do experience with Ridgid is poor battery performance, The drills, impact wrenches, are really good tools especially the 3 inch cutting tool. Ryobi batteries I feel out perform Ridgid's. Ryobi has those tools I kind of embarrassed to have people see me use but the Hp series are really good for the money. Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Makita I'll use on bigger projects. Hilti is for showboating. I'm stupid like that.
Actually, Milwaukee would beat out your Festool since you added 5 points that Festool saw connects to your "Festool" dust extractor. Try another vendor's dust extractor and Festool would not automagically connect with that, thus loosing the 5 points. Love your channel...
I'm waiting for milwaukee to come out with a tracksaw with a bigger blade diameter. I like all the features, Its just that I dont want to turn over what im cutting to fully cut through thicker wood. I dont have mafell money....
@wittworks Is your site down? It was showing down when I used your link. Also, I personally bought the Makita corded saw when it was on sale. It is hundreds less than the comparable corded saws and works just as well. As you mentioned, since there is a hose, having a cord is really not that inconvenient.
site works for me...mmm... I got my corded makita for $319 in 2019. Now they're usually $500. After using their brushless motors on the 36 and 40, it's hard to recommend the corded for $500
Interesting. But as a weekend warrior that often skips a weekend I went with the Milescraft kit ($100) which I combined with my existing Porter Cable 7-1/4" corded saw and have had good results. Yeah, I have to watch for the kerf closing up but I solved that long ago using a wedge once I started my cut in a thick board. It's hard to justify $800 when $100 and some existing good equipment suffices.
I’ll be honest, the world is a better place with your tool reviews. The Milwaukee is a great saw, they came out with new batteries so it’s even better now
thank you. I almost bought some of the new batteries, but then realized I'm the last guy in the world that can make sense of technical electrical data. So I asked a friend of mine, and he ended up talking to someone on the inside of Milwaukee and they didnt have the answer to my battery questions. They said they'd get their engineers on it and report back in a week. I have no idea what they're testing or if I'll ever get the info since it's 3rd hand and I don't know anyone on the inside. My question was if the new Forge batteries make the saw work better.
Should have clarified that that was spent over 3 years. I don’t like to buy and immediately review. I like to use them enough to warrant an honest opinion
@@wittworksI know. All those woodworkers with lime green jock straps and matching socks are going to hunt me down and cut me into pieces with their Kapex. What a way to go though. I really want one….a Kapex that is.
Thanks. You saved me money. I have a bunch of Ryobi 18 V tools and 5 Ridgid 18 V tools. I will not be buying either of those track saws. I guess I'll just stick to a circular saw and a clamped down straight edge. I call that the poor man's track saw.
@wittworks Thx for honoring the comment so much! ;) For sure, the whole Video has a good quality and and gives a nice Overview. Besides the how you made it, i appreciate what you delivered too. So the comment was only the triggering aspect for me - maybe good to know for you! If not at least may pushing the algorithm.
So the consensus is if you're on a budget, buy the Wen. If you want to spend a lot but aren't rich enough to drink the green ecto cooler, get the Milwaukee. At least that's my consensus. There's no point in buying the Ryobi or Ridgid. You might as well buy the Milwaukee or just cheap out and buy the Wen. Or you could just use a table saw. Track saws are dumb and expensive. 😉😉
If I were a budget beginner I would buy the Wen, invest in good clamps and tracks and upgrades, and then find a good used milwaukee or makita or festool down the line and only replace the saw but keep everything else. That assumes the motor will hold up on the Wen.
The Makita depth gauge is in metric inches, but the bevel gauge isn't in metric degrees?? What is this witchcraft?? Doing all my work in my shop, I really can't justify a cordless track saw. Chances are I'm going to be doing repeat panel cuts over and over all day, and the literal thousands of dollars of batteries and chargers I'd need to have on hand is just ridiculous. I'm currently looking at the TS 75 EQ. The first and last Ridgid tool I ever bought was a circular saw that's basically useless as anything other than a demo saw, as the depth adjustment is incapable of holding the foot in place, and the saw just sinks all the way down under its own weight. Hi kwalitee gahbij.
true. I'd personally go with the ts60 unless you need the extra depth of the 75. I have both. 75 scares the life out of me and isn't as smooth at the 60.
@@wittworks Duly noted, thank you! I'm considering the 75 thinking that some day I might need the extra depth, but quality of life definitely takes precedence, so if the 75 is a bit unwieldy, I may forego the extra depth!
Its been a while since I have seen a video 20k subs I believe. I knew you would kill it 167k and counting, that's awesome. This one was a Banger!!!! Great Job Thank you for all the work you put into your work!!!

Wow, that was a lot of information. If I could make a video, that one would have taken me a couple of months to do. Thanks for sharing. I have the Ridgid - it works fine for me but I would rather have the Milwaukee - just couldn't justify the red system for my occasional playtime in the shop.
Glad it was helpful! Spent roughly two years forming my opinion on them and about a month to film and edit. I’m slow.
I appreciated all of the soundtrack choices the most. I love my milwaukee and was unaware at how good I have it. I also was too dumb to ever know that the splinter guard is for the other side and will now use it.
Haha thank you. Glad I could help
Nice video good points I brought my MIlwaukee in to my store and let the Festool rep have a go with it and he gave Milwaukee props for making a good saw while only usaing one battery. But I think the most memerable moment of this video would be the circus music with the Dewalt saw.
Haha. Thank you. Good point. I am impressed with their single 18v battery on it.
love my Dewalt Tracksaw. I use it with the dovetail clamps. Mine was $300 bare tool since I already had batteries. Powertech tracks were $90. Not sure where you shop but that puts it in the ballpark of the cheaper HD saws. The motion is different but you get used to it quickly and dust collection is pretty good
you got a good deal. I got mine from the Zon
Perfect timing because I didn't need one. But now I need one.
haha. I'm sure there's some good black friday sales.
I'm sponsoring 2T of that 24T testing blade. 🤣 Seriously makes my day when I see you've dropped a new video!
Thanks! 🙏
I just trademarked the Wittworks track saw rating system and you’ll be hearing from my lawyer
Well done, Drew.
thank you
Thanks for all the work you put in with these videos. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but have you come across the Mafell MT55 18v tracksaw?
I haven't bought it since they have a corded model also and I might get divorced if I buy both for $3000
@@wittworks Hmmmm, interesting reply - as nuanced as your videos - I wasn't aware that all makes of cordless tracksaws didn't already have a corded version. But I digress - if you have the opportunity to borrow a Mafell off someone and give it a spin, you may be pleasantly surprised, and of course keep your marriage intact. 😃
Ryobi is the worst track saw I have ever seen.
I should have invented a G Tier just for it
@@wittworks lol, "G" for garbage?
So I guess if I own Milwaukee everything, I might as well buy the Milwaukee Track saw! Glad it's in the A tier!
Totally
Just an FYI… Bazos is no longer the CEO of Amazon. Andy Jassy is who sold you that saw.
Best comedy I've seen in a while.
Yup. Stickin' with my corded TS55. cheers
If you're crosscutting with a track saw the 27 inch guide rail is a must and the 55 is too long.
luckily in europe standard tracks are 60" (1500mm) long :) yeay ryobi is shockingly bad, idk what they were thinking.
yeah battery was a weak link, standard 4ah is not enough for a powerful circ saw, that is why makita and festool went with two. larger pack like 6 or 8ah with 21700 should be optimal
makes sense!
I’m gonna be honest, I still don’t see why I would get a track saw over a circular saw?
Is it just me? What am I missing?
1: dust extraction 2: dust extraction 3: splinter free cuts 4: dust extraction 5: ability to make rapid repeatable cuts with parallel guides 6: dust extraction
I think that covers it.
True
Ryobi = Fisher Price. Yup pretty much nailed it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Site does not appear to be down. Links to me right to his store.
site works for me...mmm...
I got my corded makita for $319 in 2019. Now they're usually $500. After using their brushless motors on the 36 and 40, it's hard to recommend the corded for $500
Makita 36v motor definitely stops during kickback, ask me how i know
Good to know!
As always, great video! Thank you! Bosch also has a cordless plunge saw now - curious what you think of it 😉
Good review but you forgot to mention that only Makita and Milwaukee have the "scoring" option.
I hate saw dust
That was different........................ but.................. very good!! JimE
Right on track.
nicely done.
End of year spend to reduce your taxable income. I'm sure the tax accountant urged that. 😂
Should have clarified that that was spent over 3 years. I don’t like to buy and immediately review. I like to use them enough to warrant an honest opinion
@@wittworks That makes sense
I am waiting for the Harbor Freight track saw and then I’ll switch from my Festool.
Blasphemy
@@wittworksI know. All those woodworkers with lime green jock straps and matching socks are going to hunt me down and cut me into pieces with their Kapex. What a way to go though. I really want one….a Kapex that is.
Please continue to compare tools!
Thank you
Absolutely the best review ever. 🙏
Wow, thanks!
Perfect video. 101 points
I’m just glad I’m not bunking with Fisher Price in the F Tier
I have the Milwaukee, try it with a Forge battery, noticeable difference.
I’d like to. ALMOST bought one for the video.
Tiny Sean is the hero we needed
DON'T GET HIM STARTED
i own and like the ridgid saw. my only complaint is that i can't find a way to get a replacement splinter guard. anyone got a source for me?
I wondered about that. Couldn’t find one when I looked. I wonder if the standard makita ones on Amazon would work
Thanks. You saved me money. I have a bunch of Ryobi 18 V tools and 5 Ridgid 18 V tools. I will not be buying either of those track saws.
I guess I'll just stick to a circular saw and a clamped down straight edge. I call that the poor man's track saw.
I think the 36V Makita sounds best, then the 40V. You can stick that riving knife where the sun don't shine.
"Tiny Sean" is looking a little thin, unlike Tiny Sean unfortunately. // Best video ever, the music really makes it. (No bias here.)
Thanks big boi
Comment and thumbs up cause you bought all the saws
I have never been more proud to buy your comment and thumb for $4905
@wittworks
Thx for honoring the comment so much! ;)
For sure, the whole Video has a good quality and and gives a nice Overview. Besides the how you made it, i appreciate what you delivered too. So the comment was only the triggering aspect for me - maybe good to know for you! If not at least may pushing the algorithm.
Love my Milwaukee! But recently after a year the trigger is going out. It’s under warranty but still frustrating.
Would it be possible to manufacture arbor conversion rings?
Dewalt motor sound wins in my book. Great video!
Thank you!
I did not know about the arbor trick on the Makitas... I have a corded one.. I wonder if it does the same.
it does! All three have that trick. The shaft is actually 5/8" and the ring is a converter for 20mm
Fantastic watch from start to finish
