Try doing a very thin wool liner sock under a thicker wool sock. Also, once you get camp all set up and you're ready to relax you might try changing socks. I did that when I was in the military and do it now when I'm hunting or camping. Keeps feet dry. Also, if your feet get cold at night try throwing a couple of those hand and feet warmers in the bottom of your sleeping bag. Thanks for the video!
Glad you liked the video Darren. I bought some thick wool socks today, I'll test them out on my next trip. I like the changing the socks idea. My feet don't really get cold once I'm in my sleeping bag, they warmed up pretty quick after I went to bed.
The coldest I have slept in was 23F in a tent in a bag on the ground. The chemical hand warmers under the arm pits and between 2 layers of socks made all the difference. I second this! Love the content, keep it up!
Grumpy, thanks for taking us out on another relaxing trip… Your 4Runner looks right at home in that winter wonderland. What a faithful rig. Great setup and very capable. The star time-lapse was awesome. Thanks for taking the time to do that. Until the next one GG….
Wonderful video as always.. hopefully getting out to camp sometime in January, we’ll see. By the way, finished off the last of my Jamesons Orange while watching tonight. :)
Great video. Making me seriously consider winter camping. But I’m a wuss. I’d need a diesel heater or something. Maybe add a diesel heater to your setup? They don’t seem terribly expensive some if the basic ones
I never really have a problem inside the 4Runner because I have a -20 sleeping bag and sleep fully clothed. I do normally run the engine right before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning to take the edge off. I really just had a problem standing outside this time because my feet got cold.
Hello my friend it's Mike I'm the inventor of the Original Fire Reflector and the co-founder of MC Ranch Overland Inc. I think that's so awesome you're out there in the cold with the Original Fire Reflector. I hope it kept you cozy. If you open it up just a little bit more into a parabolic shape you'll get a little bit more heat reflectance. You're not the guy that I was emailing a few weeks ago ex-military servicemen are you?
I do not. It normally does not go below 32 degrees inside the 4Runner and because I have a -20 sleeping bag and sleep fully clothed, I am comfortable. I do normally run the engine right before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning to take the edge off.
@@Jimsranch He's had that propane heater for a long time, but doesn't have to use it on his channel very often. If I ever needed a heater, I would use propane over diesel for sure. I'm sure diesels can be ok at lower altitudes, but I often camp over 10,000ft and diesels have to be adjusted for that.
I've known the places I go in the winter for years, I don't go looking for new winter spots because knowing the places gives me a sense of how they are in the winter months. Sorry I can't help.
Loved the time lapsed night seen! Beautiful campsite.
Thanks Dennis, glad you liked it. I was very happy with how it came out...which does not always happen.
Not many are brave enough to camp during the winter months. Way to lead by example!
Salute from Wolfpack Overland.
I certainly think more people should, but then again, that is one of the draws...nobody is out there.
Awesome video, amazing views. New friend here.
Thanks Dave and welcome.

Yes, the 4Runner is right at home in the snow.

Love it, I really needed the Orange during this trip, warmed me up nicely before bed.

Also, I think you should consider winter camping, it's a completely different experience.
@@TheGrumpyGobblerI am really considering it for sure.
Thx for the great video

Good morning! Have you tried smart wool socks? I’ve had great luck with them in the cold
I will look at them, I have to do something...don't want to lose a toe.

Hello Mike, great job with the Fire Reflector, it's awesome! I will try opening it up on my next outing.
I am not the guy you emailed.
Do you use a diesel heater?

Looks like you converted that stove from butane to propane?
That stove actually came with the adapter. Propane works better in the cold than butane.
Revere Overland just changed from a diesel heater to propane@@TheGrumpyGobbler

How do you find spots that are open for winter car camping? When I look everything seems closed

Is this lost park area??
Yes, it is.
