    Great video, this! I watched it before I replaced the clutch on my brother's Focus - helped me out no end. Just one tip for those attempting this with the car on jack-stands: support the gearbox using the other chain on the support beam. This way, not only will it not fall on your head as you remove it, but you can also fine tune the alignment height as you hoist it up for refitting. Hope this helps.

  • @armunro
    @armunro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    LUK are oem on Fords so the best replacements. Need to be careful bleeding the slave cylinder; they dont recommend pumps or flooring the pedal hard; the slave cylinder is easily damaged. Thus i would go the traditional way and let fluid drain through and pump the pedal (gently) to clear any air bubbles. Nice job mate; even though you are a pro you are still careful.

    Would you ever recommend fitting the conversion kits from a dual mass flywheel to a solid mass flywheel. Reason I ask I have a vectra c 2.0dti and thinking about getting the SMF kit instead, all just because of price and it's an old car now so I don't see it being worth it to pay the price of a DMF. Just wondered what your thoughts were on the SMF conversions

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally no I would not. They are designed to remove vibration through the transmission so without it I have heard in the trade that the smf can cause premature gearbox failure.

    Great video, just got my clutch replaced. Question though...is it normal that with the new clutch, the biting point is incredibly low? With the old one, it was pretty high - upper 3rd - but with the new one, it is almost immediate. It almost makes shifting harder because I have to be very slow and careful, otherwise the engine is stalling or jumping. Could this be a result of insufficient bleeding?

    Hello, nice video. I have a question though. I have the same car and last month I replaced all the parts regarding the clutch as you did except for the pressure plate bearing inside the gearbox. My mechanic said it is ok to keep the old one which he cleaned it and greased it well. Although I knew this isn`t a good thing to do, in order to save some money I agreed and didn`t replace it. I mention that the bearing isn`t noisy but now I am afraid I ll have some problems later and it should have been better to replace it toghether with the other parts. The car has 160.000 Km. What do you think? Should I replace it now or wait, and how could I find out later that it has problems? Thanks in advance for you answer.

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problems you may experience are loss of clutch pedal. The pedal may go soft and straight to the floor or the bearing becomes noisy. If it is ok now then don’t worry, change it when you need to. Although changing it at the same time as the clutch itself is always best practice

    Guys I have a problem. When I changed the clutch set + slave cylinder - the clutch pedal started to feel hard, and then soft, and then hard again. Even after bleeding the air out. I got a Comline clutch and after 5000miles the clutch's pressure plate broke and I changed a brand new LUK set. Also changed the master cylinder just in case. Still same. Sometimes the pedal is soft, sometimes it is hard. Also, it is hard when it lets the pedal go, something like the clutch is sticking? It shouldn't be like that with an OEM part. I am really mad.

    Did you replace the driveshaft bolts or reuse the old ones?

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go by the book it says replace the bolts. I've always got one more use out of them. Had this car in last week for brakes and all is still well.

      Thanks for the reply, reused bolts without a problem. Couldn't get the LH driveshaft out and the joint wouldn't come apart as it had centre punch marks where it was peened over at the edges (possibly to prevent the joint coming apart?). Had to remove and fit the box with the shaft on. Broke the reverse switch! Took me 8 hours on the drive on my own on a 2010 1.8 petrol. Old friction plate didn't look too bad (wasn't slipping but pedal was very high and the car has 109k on it), but with the new clutch, the pedal feels loads better and the drive is loads smoother. The friction plate springs were loose and I reckon this was felt when pulling away in first as the car seemed to kangaroo a little?? Thanks, Ian.

    'the hell? Luk replacement bearing housing looks like plastic? The original one is metallic I think, might be wrong but it looks corroded. Is it corrosion? Or just debris sticking to the case?

      Ah, allright. So it's not someone just lowering the part price by changing materials.
      Thanks for posting this, I'm facing about the same operations, plus the flywheel (dual mass, ofc) on my Focus mk2.5 1.8 tdci. I think I'm going for Sachs parts though. Cheers!

      @@OneAuto just a reply. The clutch's pressure plate brake, and I got a brand new LUK clutch set and new master cylinder. Still the same issue. Sometimes the pedal is soft, sometimes it is hard. Also sometimes it lets go of the clutch pedal slower.
