- This 2003 Ford Focus Audio system of mine needed an update so I thought I'd give something a try... an Aux Cable install.
It worked so here's how I did it.

Thanks man you saved my day. I’ve searched for weeks and couldn’t find anything useful but now it works absolutely amazing. I myself put a Bluetooth to aux adapter in it and it works flawlessly.
Great video !!! After 15 years with CD and Radio only, now i have the music i want from multiple devices and talk and listen to my mobile. Very good explanation of the steps. I am amateur but i did it pretty easy!. Thank you again !!!
That is farkin' brilliant man. I've been a ham op for 20 years and I never would have thought to do that. Bravo out of box thinker
I did this today in my Focus MK1 (2004), had a CD6000 original radio.
The soldering was difficult, because the pins weren't at the described positions, very small and close together.
But I found them on my platina on the opposite site of the flat cable.
Soldered it as described below:
Mass-wire to AGND
Red wire to ROUT
White wire to LOUT.
Drilled a hole into the back side of the radio, fixed cable with zip-ties and
Lead it out on an unvisible spot.
Empty CD-track was build with freeware "GoldWave", burned it to CD and thats it.
Works like charm. Kudos to One Auto for that brilliant hack!
Man, that's the hack! For months I've been wrapping my head around how to source audio from a phone to 6000CD and there we go! Thanks!
But can't change it for a new one with usb?
I've been looking for how to do this for my mark 1 for three years! Thanks for taking the time to do this, I'll be breaking out the soldering iron soon.
Genuinely grateful and will be chuffed to bits to finally get my phone linked in.
I just did this on my Puma... I wanted to keep the dash and stereo original and it works perfectly... Sounds just like the CD playing
Thanks for sharing 👍
This hack works an absolute treat, did it today on my 2001 ford ka during my lunch break at work.... Legend!
Awesome 👏
Hi man, i have ford ka 2008 with cd 6000 rds eon without cd charger and aux button. Will it works for me?
In addition to this video:
You can change songs using standard Ford's multimedia joystick.
1) Take 3.5 mm TRRS wire. It has 4 poles - L+R, mic and ground.
2) Connect left and right channels as it was shown in the video.
3) Locate "Analogue remote" wires. They are located in the central connector of your head unit. You can locate them by just using pinout schema or by measuring resistance and pressing buttons on the joystick.
4) Remove or cut these wires from the connector.
WARNING! It will not control head unit any more. But honestly, do you need it?
Connect mic and ground poles on your 3.5mm to them in any available way. Soldering is the best, but you have to power the tool in your car somehow, so I just used insulation tape.
Now you have teach your phone where is right buttons.
I have Xiaomi and I did it via standard headphones settings.
Track+ and Track- buttons are working as they should and Volume- is working as pause button.
Unfortunately, I don't know how can you map more buttons, but if it's possible - let me know.
THANK YOU for this tutorial! It turned out i have a 6000 CD with cd changer from ford focus from 2005. Bought some gear, learned how to solder and now I am driving around listening to sweet sweet music in my car! THANKS!
Awesome!! Well done 👍
I wanted this for a looooooong time, but they've said it wasn't possible to connect my phone, because there is no input or bluetooth. Now i'm veeeeeerrrrryyyyy happy. Let's rock that thing.
Cool! Just followed the steps and made it yesterday (2003 Ford Focus). Coat hanger can be used as a tool to dismount the unit. Silent CD image easily found in the internet. Had to borrow a screw driver from a friend. No glitches or noises. Works well so far.
you are a genius doing this tomrrow. Just done it, it works was fiddly but managed it thanks soo much saved me a few penny's
I just did this to my Focus MK1 2004. I love you man! It works great, maybe audio quality isn't the best but now I'm able to play music from my iPhone.
Thanks for this tutorial! :)
Great news 👍
Muchas gracias por tu ayuda.
Compré 1 metro de cable más el conector hembra, en total 0,85 € de material.
Las soldaduras me las han hecho en una tienda de informática y le di 2 € para que se tomará un café.
Lo he montado y funciona correctamente.
Thanks very much. I found the soldering a bit fiddly - those points to attach to are tiny - but it worked. I can now play BBC Sounds, Spotify etc, anything on my phone through the Audio and it sounds pretty good. Fantastic!
I did an Aux hack on my radio too and I really recommend to add a female jack, and just plug a stereo cable into it.
The reason is if you pull to hard on the stereo cable, you will just unplug it. It will be quick and easy to plug it back.
If you pull hard and you have soldered the cable directly to the radio PCB, there is a chance you have to resolder a wire/ all the wires. It will take you more time to fix that !!
Not to mention lifted soldering pads/ripped traces from the PCB
hi man! greetings from pisa, italy
I followed your precious step-by-step instructions and after solderin' the CD board my mp3 began pumpin' music into my Mondeo MK3...
good job man, good job...
You save my life :D
It works so great even with standard CD. Not to loud but still better than only radio.
I will record the Silent CD and be in heaven.
You're a man of many talents Rob. I converted my car to have an Aux input by getting one of those kits which plugs into the plug designated for the CD changer.
See ya next week!
I looked for these kits as well, but I've only found ones of 60 quid or higher. Where did you find it? If I looked for a CD changer plug to 3.5mm cable I only found ones for the Mk2 Focus
I know what I'm doing to my 2004 focus the weekend now! Cheers
Thanks mate!!! Works very well!! Now I can hear spotify in my car! Cheers from Portugal!!!
Hi , just did this on my 2001 Mondeo. Work perfectly. Thanks for great video.
FYI I bought a cheap $4 adapter on eBay that is meant to be used for the CD6000 that have AUX button. Then could just cut open the big plug that should go into the radio and ended up with nice wires "pre-terminated" connector pins, nice and easy to solder to the circuit board in your hack.
Yes ! Did it on my stereo, works perfect....Nice work man !
Thnx for the detailed how- to! This works like a charm on my old crappy ford radio. One hell of an upgrade for only 3 bucks and 30 minutes of labour😁
Thank You Rob, managed to sort my aux input out and it works a treat!!
i drilled a hole where it says "compact disk digital audio" and glued a female aux connector onto the unit itself so it looks neat.
Crypto Junkie Awesome nice job 👍
Aww man, you have made my year!! Been looking for an auxiliary cable which I could plug in for my Mondeo MK3 but they're so hard to find. Gonna use the hack today!
I have one ghia x model got one in the glove box
Excellent video friend and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us, but I would like to ask a question. This circuit, which you showed, would support an audio input signal of 25 watts, emitted by an amplified board with a USB port, thus distributing the sound to all the speakers through the device's audio outputs?
Thank you. As I said in the video, I’m not an electrical engineer. I just soldered the wires in and it worked. 😂
Спасибо огромное, мужик! Столько лет прошло, а видео до сих пор актуально!!!!👍👍👍
Gran solución para modernizar tú radio de coche sin cambiar la estética...
Funciona perfectamente!
Muchas gracias !!
Worked well, thank you. Greets from Poland :)
Thank you! Just performed this little number after watching your video. Connected to Agnd instead. Worked great!
you saved my life man thank's a lot now I don't need to used fm transmitter
Great vid mate!
There must be a transistor that switches the different signal paths to the op amp. You can bypass it and fix the output of the cd signal path, thus you will not need to put the silent cd on. You will be pretty much connecting the output of your phone right into the input of the power amp stage of the radio unit. But schematics are required.
Well you musicians know all that stuff 😂
chungaleta1234 been wondering how to do this for a few years
but the phones pre amp wouldn't be powerful enough, im assuming the method he used the cd unit boosts the signal to the amplifier.
My works transit is about to get some seriously good beats playing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Really useful video! Just tried this on my MK1 before taking the opportunity to burn the CD and I see why it's needed! Otherwise works like a charm. Thanks!
What changed when you used the cd?
When you don't use the CD and the phone goes silent (for example for a second as you change from one track to the next), you get a loud blast of whatever CD you have in the player which is jarring at best.
This is a great idea, and it does work. Thanks for posting this. My attempt at this has some electrical gremlins however. I tried this with my wife's 2001 Ford Focus wagon. It works only when the car is off. As soon as the engine is running, the left channel cuts in and out even at a standstill. Then while driving the left channel either cuts out completely or seems to flutter in time with the engine. The oddest part of this is that when she presses the brake pedal both channels play. Maybe a slight change in voltage from the brake light switch activating solves the problem? Since I can't pull over to listen to tunes all the time, I am going to try grounding somewhere else on the radio and see if this helps. First, however, I am going to take the wire completely back off and see if the problem isn't a short in the cable I am using.
Thanks it works great!! Do you know if it's possible to wire in left and right outputs for a subwoofer?
Just done it today in my Focus MK1, works perfect. thx mate.
Jake Nailik have it work perfect just like in Cd please?
There you go Rob; now you can listen to music from your phone. When you were soldering the PC board, I noticed that there were solder openings for both channels along with a solder opening for the ground. Only one of those openings, I think it was for the left channel that coincided with the solder pads you soldered to. Being me, I would have placed the wires into those exposed holes and then it probably wouldn't work :) Nice work Rob!
That's too observant of you Terry. I didn't even notice that :) Have a good weekend mate 🍻
Thanks Rob - did today, and works perfectly.
Great video once again and congrats on the 1k subs
Thank you Mr Cornwall 👍
just done this to mine and it works a treat just guna find some were to put the aux to now
I never make public comments. but to you sir, I tip my hat. Thank you. Thanks to this inexpensive hack, I can enjoy all music in my focus MK1. I soldered the ground above, to UGND, since on my CD player L/R GND were too close to each other. Guess any ground works :).
Muntean Christof Great news! Thanks for your comment 😊
Can you help me? My board is different and i cannot find the L/R out, i can send you a pic if you can have a look, pleaaase! Thank you
You listen really good music :) I like the quality of this video
nice video, i have other printed circuit board
, but i found lout, rout and gnd in the same places, and it works briliant, thank you
Thank you so mutch man for this video. It worked like a charm .
When i re connected the player needed a code. Remember when you take it out to write down the serial number
¡Hola!
Me puedes ajudar? Mi focus tambem tiene las posiciones diferentes. Achas q puede te enviar una foto? Saludos de portugal
neat trick, got to have decent tunes when you're stuck on the M1
Saludos desde México este el CD debe ser con música o sin música espero y m ayude en mi pregunta
Hey great video! Do you know if it would be too difficult to put the aux cable in the glove compartment instead of the ashtray?
Yes would be easy to do
You are literly a genius!!
Thank you!!
Thanks a lot man! I owe you one! It is absolutely working! You saved me some money. Love this video!
Cool 😎
@@OneAuto works this also whit en emptey cd
No because it won’t play an empty cd
Just got a focus today and glad I came across this!
For the aux cable cutting back did you slice around the fat bit and just pull the jack itself off the wire? I don't want to wreck the aux getting it down to its wiring 😂
I chopped of the plug and sliced the wire
Great video Rob always enjoy watching them!
Thanks 👍
Greetings from Portugal.Worked on my ford galaxy 2001 radio. Great.
Hello great video, some how I shorted the whole radio and it doesn't turn on, do you have a diagram of it ? to check the fuses and so on , thanks in advance.
I have Focus MK1 too.I hope more videos about this car.
Great video. in my 1999 focus the stereo chip is diferent, i cannot find the lout and rout, can this two have different names?
I used this tutorial for a Ford StreetKA (2004) but used RCA instead of AUX - slightly different way of getting to the CD player and a couple other differences i will list below for anyone interested:
unplug the lights and power cable when removing radio unit
take off the case on the other side (where the white plastic thingy sticks out, that side)
few extra screws to get out the CD player as you’re coming from the other side but easy enough to figure out
fed cable out the side next to the lamp plug because i’d already put the CD player back in but that last one was on me 😂
i used a RCA to aux cable instead of aux to aux, it was so fiddly soldering two grounds as i had to use the ground right between the L and R audio, used electrical tape to form a barrier between solders once cool so they didn’t bump about,
Hi Rob,
How do I find Right, Left and Ground from the 3.5mm cable? I did cut the lead from one end of the cable and I see 1 red, 1 white and 1 yellow. I have no clue which one is which. Please help.
dhilip jack White is left , Red is right and yellow will be the ground
I really did not believe it would work. i'll really try it!
Haha of course it works, and is still working 👍
Una pregunta, si pones el CD en pausa funciona el cable que se instalo, es decir poner un disco normal con musica pero pausado, se escucha la musica del celular?
A question, if you put the CD on pause, the cable that was installed works, that is, put a normal disk with music but paused, do you listen to the music of the cell phone?
I have a problem. Beneath the white connectionbar i don't see LOUT,ROUT and GND at the same place you're showing it. There's nothing there. I'm confused now. There are no solderingpoints whatsoever. Can you help me out here? Thanks !!!
THnx from Belarus! Great job!
my solution to this was to buy a new car! haha! nice video Rob and I will have to see if I can do this to my truck.
Haha thanks Mike! Yes get that soldering iron warmed up 🍻
Nice vid Rob,done the same mod to my Honda Goldwing......
Nice.. Upgrading the bike audio.
Good video but could you add a Bluetooth module instead of a aux ?
Yes you could. I bought one but the phone signal noises kept interfering through the speakers so I went for the cable install
@@OneAuto ahh thanks for the reply
K programa se le mete al CD para k no se escuche o algún audio saludos espero y m ayudes con mi pregunta saludos desde mexico
I had one of these and was able to get an adapter to connect to the cd changer connector on the back of the unit straight to a lightning iPhone connector. No need to take the unit apart.
What kind of adapter worked for you? I only found some kind of CD-Changer-Emulator (e.g. "Yatour").
Satori oh mate I sold the car long ago and can’t remember. I went to an independent car stereo shop and they ordered the part and I fitted it. From what I can see eBay has a few options.
Hello
Would you mind explaining that of the silent cd?
I don't know English and I haven't understood it.
Thank you
Hi. Purchased auto Ford focus MK1, the radio has no aux input, rummaged the entire Internet. All show how they work, but not who shows how to do it. Thanks to your video now know how to do. I'll take care of it tomorrow. Thanks.
please make a video equal to the "ford focus MK1 AUX CABLE HACK", but with stereo cassette
www.google.ge/amp/s/m.aliexpress.com/item/32780363523.html
@@MrMleri No longer exists, what did this link too? I have a MK1 with a tape deck I want to hack an Aux/Bluetooth into. Thanks
I like that. Nice idea and I bet plenty will give it a go too. Cheers buddy.
I'm sure they will. Cheers Steve 🍻
very useful man, thanks. on my model I used a professional audio cable, a bit thicker than yours and I manage to use this hack w/ a normal audio CD.
10x again m8
How you manage it to works w/t audio cd?
Great video Rob but i don't understand what kind of cd you put on the radio
You have to download a silent audio track. Then burn multiple tracks of it to a cd using something like windows media player
Very helpful video, I've done it just like this and it works. Though for some reason I need to turn volume up to maximum and even like this its not loud enough. And idk why but there is some interference between songs as well. Fairly interesting, havent figured out why it is like this. Any tips maybe?
Make sure your phone volume is turned up
Very nice clean upgrade Rob , terrific video as always. Checking out Joakim music now
Cheers Keith. Love a bit of Joakim. He's one of those nice guys like yourself. 👍
New Level Auto Charlie started dancing as soon as the tunes dropped 😎
Haha he's the man!
what cable should i use?
hello, i did this hack and its awsome, but i have a strange problem. if i plug the charger on my phone wile the phone is on the aux line, i have big problem with static noise. i almost cannot hear the songs. any suggestions? chers
Would it be economically feasible to just install aftermarket stereo and Bluetooth it? Plus you'll get a USB output for the thumb drive stick for loads of music?
Of course, if you want all those features. If you don't, solder a cable in for under £2
In order to not hear the background CD, cut the corresponding PCB traces going to Out L & Out R, and install a dpdt switch to choose between CD and Aux Cable.
Didtok Nan Good idea, I'm not that patient Lol
Ehi man, i need help with this process. I think that you know what to do, can u help me?
hi, one question regarding cd radio-lg lac3710r Can an aux be made and what cd should be put blank or?
Could you do this using a bluetooth device using the same connection points that you used?
Heyy! I just did the this but I have a problem with the write.
I made a female 3.5 input. And when I put in a 3.5 stereo write the sound comes only from from Left side. When I put 3.5 with additional microphone write the sound comes out fine. What could be the reason for this? Tnx ((:
Non si è bruciato ancora lo stadio del preamplificatore? Non facevi prima a collegare alla presa verde posta nella parte posteriore, all'esterno? Oppure cambiare l'autoradio?
Nothing blown, still working today. Thanks for watching
I’ll do this to my mondeo mk3 2001, the problem is why only speakers 🔊 on the left side is working fine, and the right side is very low volume? Help please, Thanks. 🙏🏽
Thanks! This looks great. I'd previously used one of the devices that plugs in where the CD changer would. It worked great, but I it was silently gradually draining the battery if the car was left unused for a long time. I think it must do with current to kid the unit it's a CD changer. Weirdly the company that made it seemed to not to know.
With your hack, does that mean the CD isn't usable for normal CDs any more?
Mark Armstrong The CD player works as normal
And now you should buy small cheap USB Bluetooth audio reciever dongle with jack output and you have BT radio from that OEM thing ..
Anyway trying to figure how to do this on the tape version RDS 5000 EON and use it with my litle bluetooth dongle ,i dont want to buy new radio, because then i loose original remote controls or have to buy very expensive adapters for it ..
Great Video Rob keep them coming
Cheers Paul
would this work if the base unit is the tape player one, not the cd? Would the output and ground ports on the PCB be similar?
Found your response below, thanks. Great video!
I think so. I think someone in these comments did it. Thanks
Great video! I cant wait to give this a try.
Hello, thanks for your hack video. Very helpfull. Unfortunetly i have constat noise and could not find any solution. I tried fix it so many times, that i burned out copper contacts on board but i used other grounds. I tried another cable, another device and nothing helped me so far. Do you have any idea or this is expected behaviour on this hack? Thank you.
Igor Korček Jr. There is always a faint background noise with quiet/vocal only audio tracks. It doesn't bother me. Put on some pumping tunes and it up :)
I just did this and I added a bluetooth , the only problem is that i have some static sound when the track is changing ,not a big problem :)
How did you add bluetooth?
does it stop for a bit every 5 minutes?
does yr radio still do it?
Hi I want to do the same in my Mk1 99' Ford, but the question I have is: Does this hack works with a Tape Player? I do own a tape with aux already but, probably would be more useful if i put a female jack somewhere in my car and that's it, just connect a cable and play what I want... So what do you think?
Sorry I’ve never done a tape player version.
Will this work if the CD player on my stereo is connected but not functioning? I get "CD error"
Probably not
Pretty neat ideea, congratiulations!
Best video i've seen, and i have check out alot on how to do this. do you have a link to the online blank track you used to burn it to the cd? Cheers.
Thank you. There is a link somewhere in these comments I posted. Just google silent audio file.
I did this on my 2004 focus it says cd error when I put a cd in, do you know why it says this???
