More rust? surprised the MOT place didn't spot the back rust. That wont be long going, all the hard work will pay off... Watch for those aches and pains from lying in awkward positions haha! Good job mate
Dear Martin, thank you so much for these lovely vids. I like to look them over to recall all of your work. I know that this vid is quite old but even so I was hoping that you could supply the contact details of the transit breakers that you bought the inner wing repair panels from, as I am looking for some transit bits for a project. Please help Martin if you can. Kind regards, Paul.
Hi mate, firstly, really enjoying the vids! I dont suppose you or any of your lovely viewers know where I can get a rear floor pan for a lwb mk6 t350, or whether a floor pan for a mk5 would fit as thats the only floor pan I can find anywhere. All help gratefully received!
ahh man thats a bit of a bummer about the corner of the rear quarter but at least the chassis rail is good so not so much welding to do up side down. when you use a grinder to clean rust off fella your better off to use a wire wheel than a flap disc as flap discs tend to polish the deeper rust up instead of removing it. while the passenger side rear is still strong id treat that, i know its not a resto like you said but thats one area you can not see when the bumper is back on and for piece of mind along with half hour to grind the rust off and treat it i would say its well worth it. yer that Vactan rust treatment is awesome stuff, i had some bare metal areas on my project van which i never got time to put in primer or paint late last year and vactan held back 99% of the rust on its own with nothing else over it, i checked it a month ago so holds up well. one thing i have never come to understand is why most cars and vans seem to rust more on the offside than they do the nearside, i would have thought it should be the other way round with all the water and mud etc laying near the kerb
Ea Composites Yes I think I will treat the other side as well. I find these 40 grit flappys to grind bach better than the wire wheel but polish as you said when they are worn. That Vactan seems to really do a good job. Glad you mentioned it. Cheers Martin
yes mate id say its for sure worth doing it while you have it in bits and can get to it. i guess it depends how heavy the rust is but i normally find a wire wheel is better for that sort of thing or a poly strip disc from Smith & Arrow (they have an ebay site with cutting discs, grinding discs, flap wheels as well as the poly strip discs and make good stuff thats also pretty cheap. might be worth checking them out if you use a grinder a lot or want to buy some discs cheap). yer i like Vactan as well think its a good product and great value for money, happy to mention good products that could help people out fella
the older transits rusted externally the newer ones rust internally correct me if im wrong. it could be worse it could be an lt or sprinter van they rot like a pear
Try using some magnets to hold that patch in place on the underside while tacking it in, easier than holding and welding. You lucked out without having to put patches throughout the back end. You could use your pump sprayer and my rust proofing on the whole bottom to stop further rust cancer from spreading. The MOT should be a doddle. Brian
Brian Percival I have got a welding magnet somewhere Bri but do you think I could find it fof that last patch I done on the underside of the front chassis ? no chance lol. I may give the whole underside your treatment at the end of the job. Cheers Martin
When you have to make at least 12 episodes dealing with rust on a Transhit, it makes you wonder how much was van and how much was rust! BTW I dont know WHY any idiot would EVER buy a new van is beyond me! They are shockingly built out of shit metal, shit parts, put together by chimps with millions of electrical faults lieing in wait. Theyre false economy! Its better not only for the environment and for your sanity to keep an older van that isnt electrical on the road!
retrorestore Good to see are the rust fixed on the Transit. I didn't think they rusted that bad but i'm wrong. These rust in places where the older Transit's didn't.
tony macdonald Cheers Tony. I'm just looking at a channel Ketly Mower Repairs and heard my transit mentioned. just subbed to it as well. saw your comment there too. Cheers Martin

+michael jagger Don't know anything about those. Transits rust, Full Stop lol.
+retrorestore there are loads of old transits left parts are so cheap for them plus the engines never die on them
What does the Vactan do?
Is it to harden rust?
latitudeash It converts the rust into a non rust substance so it doesn't spread.
Cheers
Martin
cool 👍🏼
hows the transit looking now?
+michael jagger Still have to finish the cosmetic stuff.
+retrorestore least you've sorted it structurally. bodywork wise it doesnt look too bad.

Plastic parts are just water traps.
+michael jagger Yes, most trim can be like that.
