I remember this coming on about 4pm weekday afternoons, just before Anglia opened and children's programmes started...remember Twizzle, Torchy the Battery Boy etc - halcyon days, thank you for jogging my memory

"This is Anglia Television, Broadcasting (a full-colour service after ITV went to colour in November 1969) to East of England from the transmitters of the Independent Television Authority" (from Wednesday 13 July 1972 It's name changed to the Independent Broadcasting Authority). That's how the announcement at the end would look like, then the Anglia Knight Ident will play out in full, then it will show the lineup for that transmitter's day of programming and then the Anglia clock.

This lively version of Vaughan Williams' 'Sea Songs' was swiftly followed by the 'Alla Hornpipe' from Handel's 'Water Music' suite, a Malcolm Sargent recording I think, played as the 'Anglia Knight' revolved-see its eponymous Wiki. The music choices established a nautical tone, appropriate as not only was _Nelson_ a Norfolk man but, in the 1960s, Norwich had a thriving port, while trawlers and drifters packed Gt Yarmouth's harbour since fishing was still an important local industry. After the music, a stentorian voice-Anglia presenter Dick Graham by the sound of it-proudly announced (I write from memory): "This is Anglia Television, broadcasting to the East of England on channels 6, 7 and 11, from the Belmont, Sandy Heath and Mendlesham transmitters of the Independent Television Authority". It had been just Mendlesham at first but new transmitters eventually came on stream.

As I remembered it 40 years ago.The clarity is flawless. Where did the archive originate before digital?
