Eric, I also think seeing that SD38 is more exciting then the OCS, but the OCS is still awesome, but with the OCS, you know when and where it might be coming, but with that UP SD60M and Ex CR SD38, that tops the cake. Awesome catches.
I was just watching your Ringling Brothers circus clip. You are extremely professional in you camera work from the transitions to what have to be pre-planned angles to zoom work. Really excellent. Thanks for posting.
2:29 since 1136 has been retired off the mbta roster and sold to massdot. 1130 was retired and sold to massdot for ptc, but still operates on the MBTA. I saw it yesterday. I believe 1132 still operates on the MBTA.
I enjoyed seeing some video from Reading, my hometown...now living in MS. My dad grew up on N9th St right next to the Reading shops and yard. Whenever I visit I go see the yard and the Pagoda.
That's the sound the air compressor makes as the belt engages on the pulley. In locos where the compressor isn't powered directly by the prime mover, it makes that distinct whoooo sound
Oh my God Eric. This is YOUR BEST YET! All these catches were incredible; the camera work was superb, and damn them SD38s sound GOOD!! You still up for my off of $100 to work with me for the NRHS Convention?! I'll up the ante to $150!!!
Wow........nice grab with the SD-38s! Never seen a pair of those running together like that before. I know the Reading & Northern has some of them, or did at one time. Great video!
Spectacular vid, Eric. I live in District 2 of Pan Am Railroad, here in the North Shore of Mass. and when those GP-402's are hauling six to seven coaches for the MBTA, they are smokin' at run eight going over crossings 60-to70 mph. They are slowly being replaced by the newer P-42s. It is my understanding that CSX will be purchasing those GEEPS for freight power after the conversion to P-42s is complete. I really enjoyed your camera work. Damn, do I love 645s in RUN-*!
First of all, you were right, this video just made me eat my own words 10 times over. This H2W was BY FAR superior to anything the executive F's could offer. Sure, they may look amazing in stills, but they'll never be able to match this on video. This was incredible. And YES! I've been waiting the longest time for you to throw up your "stalk session" of that 19G with all those beat up GP40MCs we sent you guys. The rare rack train with the Yuppie was equally killer. All in all, GREAT video here.
Wow, reading the comments I wonder how these people do off the internet? Have you ever heard of the best for last, or even watching the complete video. Great video, lots of neat catches and great sound's.
Dang nice video! Super clear and good camera skills. If I had to guess, I would've said the train with the '38's was shot 10 years ago. Really good looking paint on the Ex-Con and almost no graffiti on the train cars. Well done.
I see those too, on the CSX line in that is near me in NJ when they carry shipping containers... I think they use articulated railcars that use the Jacobs (or Jakobs) Bogey. I read that Gunderson makes articulated railcars--flatcar, wellcar, autorack, etc.
a truly awesome video and the power of the train are. gallant and trains can also be considered reuse. I like to train, and my dad was 60 train decade of work in Pieksämäki Finnish railway track at work
Awesome stuff!! Really great!! Love the chase with 3805!! Request!! Get out to Boiling springs on The Yellow Breeches creek sometime behind Allenberry play house. Beside great fishing, Nice crossing and very nice curve.
That would be the air compressor cutting in which is driven by an electric motor on the GEs. On EMDs they are driven directly off the crankshaft of the diesel engine so you don't hear them all that clearly.
@deloreanman14 No. They were enroute to Altoona, PA and Juniata Heavy Haul Shops to be rebuilt by NS's contract mechanical 'paper company' Thoroughbred Mechanical Services. The units will receive a full mechanical overhaul, carboy, truck, and wheel work, then paint and be returned. Also to note. These are NOT MBTA1130, 1136, and 1132. They are MBTX1130, 1136, and 1132. MassBay is not a common carrier, and AAR marks MBTA are unassigned.
The autorack was a newer aluminum-sided car, they have flat side panels instead of the normal corrugated ones. I think the trailer was improperly loaded on those two flat cars. There is some TTX equipment called "Long Runners" that can handle a trailer straddling two flatcars, but there's no coupler between them, it's a solid drawbar. Those flatcars were different heights and designs so they weren't Long Runners, if there was a coupler between them it was definitely improperly loaded!
The purple locomotives at the begining with the T at the front are engines that push and pull passenger carts from Boston thru a small town called Rockport. I know this because im from one of the towns that they run thru.
Very, very nice. Quality of video & sound was GREAT! Loved the SD38's in notch 8. What camera are you using. Thinking about buying a "real" video camera instead of just making do with my Sony DSC-H1.
Those MBTA were rebuilt in Montréal and finished in Hornell N.Y i went there to bring the prints and advice. I was working for CN at that time we spent a week there . Nice and freindly people in Hornell. We used to call those loco the blueberrys
Nice catch on the 3 window SD60. Despite popular belief, they're still pretty good road engines. A little noisy & ruff riding, but still worth running on thru freight.
love to see conrail engines still around and working hard always loved the horns
Me too
They were the spotlight train on the Pittsburg line through the early/late 2000s and early 2010s
Wow! SD38s on the mainline? Incredible!
I remember these videos when I was 5 years old. !!! I finally found it again. , good times...
The lead unit at the very beginning has a nice-sounding P3 and electronic bell! (A unique combination, too! Especially seeing the rare MBTA GP40's!)
Great video of these trains struggling with their loads to keep them moving.
Eric, I also think seeing that SD38 is more exciting then the OCS, but the OCS is still awesome, but with the OCS, you know when and where it might be coming, but with that UP SD60M and Ex CR SD38, that tops the cake. Awesome catches.
Very good location placement of the camera, obviously a good one in the hands of someone who knows how to get the best from it. Col, NZ.
Love the classic EMDs on the last chase. The most I see these days are the classic GPs on the locals. They still sound great on Notch 8👍
One of my favorites wide cabs locomotive the GP-40MC.
I was just watching your Ringling Brothers circus clip. You are extremely professional in you camera work from the transitions to what have to be pre-planned angles to zoom work. Really excellent.
Thanks for posting.
What railroad are the puple ones? Your video is great! ~COOL~

Yeah, considering the date on this video, I think they were being hauled to altoona for overhaul or some other service at the time.
That last train was really laying it down, great stuff.
Very nice. Clear,smooth,colorful.
I enjoyed seeing some video from Reading, my hometown...now living in MS. My dad grew up on N9th St right next to the Reading shops and yard. Whenever I visit I go see the yard and the Pagoda.
2:37 I can imagine the Atlantic Coast line railroad with that paint scheme
The hell with the horn!! Being wide open sounds great!
That's the sound the air compressor makes as the belt engages on the pulley. In locos where the compressor isn't powered directly by the prime mover, it makes that distinct whoooo sound
In the first vid the MBTA locos don’t get the most of my attention, it’s NS 9094, which was scrapped last month due to wreck damage.
Your trains are nearly as long as our Country.......great footage and sounds , love it thank you.
Oh my God Eric. This is YOUR BEST YET! All these catches were incredible; the camera work was superb, and damn them SD38s sound GOOD!!
You still up for my off of $100 to work with me for the NRHS Convention?! I'll up the ante to $150!!!
Wow that Conrail was smoking up a storm, Nice catches on the Dash9s and the GPs
One of your best, Eric. I really liked this one.
Captured many trains at Penn"s tavern on the Buffalo line over the years back when CN & CP were making their runs back in the early 2000's.
The pacing shot was most excellent! Good catch planning and knowing where that shot can be made.
Great catch on those commuter locomotives and the Triclops SD60M
Wow........nice grab with the SD-38s! Never seen a pair of those running together like that before. I know the Reading & Northern has some of them, or did at one time. Great video!
Those SD38s sounded awesome. We have two of the same units on the small railroad I work for in Birdsboro, PA.
I love it when TH-camr's put ads on the end of the video. It's a lot more convenient for the viewer.
Spectacular vid, Eric. I live in District 2 of Pan Am Railroad, here in the North Shore of Mass.

ah a pure untouched conrail quality SD38..nothing like it..good memeories and awesome stack tall!!
Love the P3 on that dash 9.
Excellent training. Cheers!
I love that phase 1 SD60M !
love the SD60M idle whine
I Love the sound of the EMD's at 08:16!!!! They sound beautiful!!! I wish we had some of those over here in Australia
There's some SD70ACe on BHP's ore lines
Underpowered as H2W mat be, those 38s sound absolutely fantastic!
That whoop sound is the air copmpressor cutting in, it then goes to the main resivours where are is stored, for engine and train braking.

Nice catch with the MBTA units. They run through my town all the time!
that Conrail locomotive was sure smokin' alot
The Conrail SD38 Chase was very impressive! Job well done.
Dang nice video! Super clear and good camera skills. If I had to guess, I would've said the train with the '38's was shot 10 years ago. Really good looking paint on the Ex-Con and almost no graffiti on the train cars. Well done.
nice video cool to hear engines in notch 8 from outside the cab
That old ConRail 3805 SD38, now that's a locomotive with air horns.
Great variety and great camera work.
Excellent editing! It's not necessary, at least for me, to see the entire train.
I see those too, on the CSX line in that is near me in NJ when they carry shipping containers... I think they use articulated railcars that use the Jacobs (or Jakobs) Bogey. I read that Gunderson makes articulated railcars--flatcar, wellcar, autorack, etc.
boy, those sd38's sound good! brings back memories!!!
Awesome !! Great audio too, love the sound of those air horns.
Luv the sound of the airhorns on the leader of 290 also!
love the SD60M triclops
a truly awesome video and the power of the train are. gallant and trains can also be considered reuse. I like to train, and my dad was 60 train decade of work in Pieksämäki Finnish railway track at work

Those SD38s were awesome, nice video!

Gotta love those SD38s
Nice work

The horn on the Conrail sounds amazing
Great camera action and catches. DVD quality stuff right here.

@112amtrak
They were headed for repairs at the Juniata Locomotive Shops in Altoona, PA.
Those Sd38’s sound awesome
Thats correct, my great uncle drives them for Tinto Rio, I'd love to see one for a laugh down here in Melbourne on the mainline!
Awesome video, those SD38's sound great
Great video you made Eric, Lots of good stuff!
Those auto max racks are amazing pieces of rollin stock.
thats cool the crossing in richland pa i cross that every night going to work its one hell of a curve with the up and the ns loco

You're welcome for the heads up on 19G btw Eric...
real nice catches
@BNSFandSP
14 SD38's and 1 SD38-2's. But all of the SD38's will be retired at the end of this year.
Haha. I was gonna ask what notch 8 was, too, but after reading a few comments remembered what I learned from "Unstoppable". Movies aren't all bad.
AMAZINGLY EPIC VIDEO DUDE, SIMPLY AMAZING CATCHES AND CHASES
Wow. This is quality footage!
This is rail pron at it's its best!
Excellent p5 in first clip.
Love the CR horn and great video!

Very very wonderful locos
They were shop units.
nice catches, it looks like 3805 got repainted in its conrail quality paint scheme, but now the engine is retired.
beathiful sounds¡¡ of the locomotives GE and awesome locomotives MBTA¡ nices video. 5* and favorits, regards
We do...well, SD40s anyway. BHP Iron Ore run some on their work trains in the Pilbara. They run SD70s on the main line.
Nice catch on the 3 window SD60. Despite popular belief, they're still pretty good road engines. A little noisy & ruff riding, but still worth running on thru freight.
The pink diesels are pretty 💖
Solid effort from those SD38s though
GEBASS6 MANY THANKS FOR YOUR VERY KIND REPLY MUCH APPRECIATED
Great catch and nice scene @ 9:37.
