- 2 versions of O Canada played at the beginning and the end of the Opening Ceremony of the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal, which was opened by Her Majesty The Queen.
Video credit belongs to the IOC.
The Olympic versions of National Anthems are always the best, and certainly with O Canada.
Vic Vogel was a true genius
Later used in the acclaimed 1979 _With Glowing Hearts_ sign-off film played by many Canadian and some U.S. television stations (which featured a hot-looking little girl at the end) and also in an animated film made by Michael Mills in the early 1980s
CREEPY comment!
The Montreal my father grew up in. Made friends to this day in the 1970s in Montreal. Dollard Des Ormeaux.
May God save the Queen and God Bless the Commonwealth of Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Or not... Sep 8 2022
Actually it’s the Dominion of Canada. Commonwealth would be Australia
@@user-ve5ln5le9ydon’t compare Canada to Australia. Canada is decades behind Australia in becoming a republic
Canada isn't a dominion anymore, it's just Canada, not commonwealth, no kingdom etc@@user-ve5ln5le9y
It's true "O Canada" was never played at that Olympiad's medal ceremonies because Canada did not win a single gold medal!
34 years later: Well...
Yup and Calgary in 88 but in Vancouver they got gold
14 golds in Vancouver
May as well have had god save the queen since she opened their games. What an embarrassment
Well, Back in 2010, Canada wins a Gold Medal.
one day when the borders are reopened here in Australia I would love to visit our cousins of the great north! We Australians will always stand by Canada 🇨🇦 🇦🇺

Slightly different lyrics at the end. But this is when people knew how to sing it with dignity and propriety, not when they are drunk or changing the lyrics on a whim to make a personal fucking political statement!! It’s a HYMN in French not a goddamn pop song
They should have Roger Ducet to do the anthem.
Oh yea no doubt
Kinda embarrassing for Canada. Having a British queen opening the games for you. Made them look like a British colony and a laughing stock while acting like they’re so independent most the times but this proved worldwide that they are still very much under the British. Only other one she opened was the 2012 London one
She’s still the Queen of Canada , distinct from the Queen of England
@@Bignaqc Australia never used the queen for their opening ceremony. They used the governor-general the actual head of state
@@sliat1981 -- She sent her husband, Prince Philip, to Melbourne to open the 1956 Olympics.
The then Queen (now King) is officially known as the Monarch of Canada (as it is for Australia, New Zealand, the UK and other realms). In 1976, though, there was a complication with the Canadian Governor-General, Jules Léger, the grey-suited bespectacled man standing to the left Queen Elizabeth at 0:45. He had suffered a massive stroke in 1974 leaving him with impeded speech. His wife often recited his speeches and dedications during his tenure as G-G.
@@myalumina548 lol Canada had the choice to use their governor general like Australia but used the queen. I wouldn’t compare the two countries l. Canada is decades behind Australia in becoming a republic
