- I'm planning on doing a version 2 of this since this is badly edited and been worked on since last year. Ones I couldn't find are Lake Placid 1932, Garmisch 1936, St. Moritz 1948, Oslo 1952, Squaw Valley 1960, Innsbruck 1964, and Lake Placid 1980.

It was great seeing all those historic people who have opened the Olympic games.
Charles is a great guy opened the 1932 games
So sad the 1st olympic games didn't broadcast in 1890s era
The type of technology we have today didn't exist back then.
Жаль,что не транслировались Олимпийские игры Древней Греции 😢.

I mean, it could have been broadcasted, but with no sound. And even then for only a few seconds or a minute.
They didn’t have the technology back then
I like how at the end of the declaration in Chinese it sounds like "Game on!"
He's saying "I declare, the XXIX Olympic Games of Beijing, open."
In Chinese, "“我宣布,第二十九屆北京奧運,開幕。”
In Mandarin, "“Wǒ xuānbù, dì èrshíjiǔ jiè běijīng àoyùn, kāimù.”

Standing next to Vladimir Putin at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics is his daughter Ekaterina Tikhonova. She was an incredible competitive dancer around that time, footage of which can be found on TH-cam.
Most emotive declaration was Athens 2004. It has rhythm. It has spirit. The rest were pretty much BORING.

6:03 Say what you want about George W. Bush, the fact that he made the opening declaration of Salt Lake City from the spectator stands only a year after 9/11 was a pretty ballsy thing to do.
Especially seeing as everyone else made the declarations either from the middle of the area or their private viewing box.
Since you're going to do a second version, make sure it has the French parts from Montreal 1976, Calgary 1988 and Vancouver 2010, and of course, include the declarations from the Youth Olympic Games.
P.D: also, take off the background music from Sarajevo 1984.
Sure thing

Then New York Governor Franklin Roosevelt opened the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
Footage of the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid opening ceremony is available from the archives of the Paley Center for Media in New York City. That includes the opening of the games by Vice President Walter Mondale. The catalog id for the footage is B:00050.
That 1968 Mexico logo 😍
A shame really, couldn’t imagine the Australians or Canadians accepting a member of the British royal family (which is also theirs) opening the games today.
We will see in 2032, although Queen Elizabeth II didn’t open for Vancouver 2010 (she did 2 years later for London 2012).
Soon we won’t accept it either

Had no idea Helsinki's opening was done in English.
In finnish it would be "Julistan täten avatuksi helsingin olympiakisat. Juhlistamme viidettätoista modernin ajan olympiadia"
I was done in four languages: French, English, Finnish and Swedish.
@@hi-tl6fi That was the President's actual declaration: "Je proclame l’ouverture des Jeux olimpiques de Helsinki celebrant la XV Olympiade de l'ère moderne. Reagan did the best declaration in history!
That was an outstanding video of the opening of the Olympics, both Summer and Winter. I do recall President Jimmy Carter opened the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games, but who opened the Winter Games of Squall Valley in 1960? Who was the President of Brazil prior to Michel Temer in 2016, and what caused it? Aside from those questions, great compilation! And in the words of Jodie Whittaker's departure as the 13th Doctor, with a little style: Emmanuel Macron, Paris 2024, tag, you're it! Make it Brilliant! Better stock up on some champagne!
The 1960 Winter Olympic Games at Squaw Valley in California were declared open by Vice President Richard Nixon.
The 1980 Winter Olympic Games at Lake Placid were not declared open by President Jimmy Carter, but rather by Vice President Walter Mondale.
@hwyfan I’ll tell ya what. I got another edition of these declarations ready. When the Paris Declaration is made in July, I’ll upload a version 2.
@hwyfan Walter Mondale? And Richard Nixon for Squaw Valley? Both were VPs in 1960 and 1980? I didn't know that. But then again, when you're 10 years old, EVERYTHING'S pretty much new to you, it's a case of " What you don't know THEN, you will NOW "....and now I know; Mondale was the Democratic nominee 40 years ago, alongside with Geraldine Ferraro as Mondale's VP nomination, and Nixon became President nine years later, in 1969, 55 years ago ( and a year later, in 1970, I was born ).. guess you DO learn something every day. And speaking of which, I heard that breakdancing is one of the new events of the upcoming Paris Olympics, and it's been 40 years since breakdancing reached its peak ( and the iconic Los Angeles Summer Olympics as well ), can't wait to see how it all goes down...and around. Thanks for the reply and the information you provided to me.
Looks like I'm going to listen to Herb Albert's 1980 again. That song is pretty much the soundtrack to Lake Placid....and Moscow...and Jimmy Carter...and Ronald Reagan..the WHOLE year in a nutshell....without the shells, that's 64 and 44 years ago for you ( the latter on my end, 1980 ). Onwards to Paris!
Urgh Sir William Deane opening the Sydney games... Really screwed that one up. From memory I think he then bumped the mic with his hand as he started to clap?
"of the president of the united staaates I proclaim open the Olympic gaaames of los sangeleees celebrating the twelfth Olympiad of the modern area" is what I heard

People are so ignorant about the extremely politically rampant history of trying hosting the Olympic games . Hitler , Hirohito, Soviet union and the cold war boycotts, etc.
I hope you now understand what it feels for the IOC after a long history.
These guys in the IOC are seeing putin and xi as more "comfortable".
How did brezhnev had a long speech of '80 olympics?
From the admittedly very limited Russian I can understand, he started his speech with something along the lines of 'Dear president of the international olympic committee, athletes of the world, (something else I couldn't understand), I declare opened...' He also just talked pretty slowly, but that greeting at the start took a while

2028: Harris or Trump
Suddenly realizing that we might have to watch Donald Trump struggle through a formal announcement like this in 2028
That would be so epic
I really hate the way the speakers build to a crescendo but stupidly put the word "open" as the 3rd word, not the last word. Except the German speakers, sigh. And China? Reagan nearly fixed it. Interestingly, Donald Trump might be the only US president not to be in office during an Olympic Games. Somehow Bill Clinton had Michael Scott energy. Bush Jr brought extra energy but then pinched that candle out.
