  • I'm planning on doing a version 2 of this since this is badly edited and been worked on since last year. Ones I couldn't find are Lake Placid 1932, Garmisch 1936, St. Moritz 1948, Oslo 1952, Squaw Valley 1960, Innsbruck 1964, and Lake Placid 1980.

    That was an outstanding video of the opening of the Olympics, both Summer and Winter. I do recall President Jimmy Carter opened the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games, but who opened the Winter Games of Squall Valley in 1960? Who was the President of Brazil prior to Michel Temer in 2016, and what caused it? Aside from those questions, great compilation! And in the words of Jodie Whittaker's departure as the 13th Doctor, with a little style: Emmanuel Macron, Paris 2024, tag, you're it! Make it Brilliant! Better stock up on some champagne!

      @hwyfan Walter Mondale? And Richard Nixon for Squaw Valley? Both were VPs in 1960 and 1980? I didn't know that. But then again, when you're 10 years old, EVERYTHING'S pretty much new to you, it's a case of " What you don't know THEN, you will NOW "....and now I know; Mondale was the Democratic nominee 40 years ago, alongside with Geraldine Ferraro as Mondale's VP nomination, and Nixon became President nine years later, in 1969, 55 years ago ( and a year later, in 1970, I was born ).. guess you DO learn something every day. And speaking of which, I heard that breakdancing is one of the new events of the upcoming Paris Olympics, and it's been 40 years since breakdancing reached its peak ( and the iconic Los Angeles Summer Olympics as well ), can't wait to see how it all goes down...and around. Thanks for the reply and the information you provided to me.
      Looks like I'm going to listen to Herb Albert's 1980 again. That song is pretty much the soundtrack to Lake Placid....and Moscow...and Jimmy Carter...and Ronald Reagan..the WHOLE year in a nutshell....without the shells, that's 64 and 44 years ago for you ( the latter on my end, 1980 ). Onwards to Paris!

      People are so ignorant about the extremely politically rampant history of trying hosting the Olympic games . Hitler , Hirohito, Soviet union and the cold war boycotts, etc.
      I hope you now understand what it feels for the IOC after a long history.
      These guys in the IOC are seeing putin and xi as more "comfortable".

    How did brezhnev had a long speech of '80 olympics?

    • @jlust6660
      @jlust6660 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From the admittedly very limited Russian I can understand, he started his speech with something along the lines of 'Dear president of the international olympic committee, athletes of the world, (something else I couldn't understand), I declare opened...' He also just talked pretty slowly, but that greeting at the start took a while

    I really hate the way the speakers build to a crescendo but stupidly put the word "open" as the 3rd word, not the last word. Except the German speakers, sigh. And China? Reagan nearly fixed it. Interestingly, Donald Trump might be the only US president not to be in office during an Olympic Games. Somehow Bill Clinton had Michael Scott energy. Bush Jr brought extra energy but then pinched that candle out.
