If you’ve been thinking about starting this business please do it. I got fired from my job doing the same things mowing and landscaping so I decided to do it myself and I’m making 2x what I made working at that job and it’s barely my 2nd month. On a mission to 6 figures! Bless up champs
Most people can start with a good push mower weed eater and a leaf lower. I bought a toro push mower from Tractor supply for $500, Poulan pro leaf blower from tractor supply for $99 and a Husqvarna weedeater from a dealership for $300. Say trimmer line, gas cans, gas and oil for $100 total. I already had a pick up truck. About 1000 bucks is a good start. The hardest part (which really isn't hard) is going out and looking for yards. I did ol fashioned door to door and it seemed to work well. Just don't get discouraged when they say "no, I don't need you to cut my lawn." All of this extra stuff in the vid is great. But I would advise starting off on your own 1st.
Make sure what ever brand you buy can be services locally. So if you buy a toro mower, make sure there is a toro dealer nearby that can service it when something breaks down or goes wrong.
I just bought a Toro 22 super recycler for $200 in great condition. I'm still looking for the edger/weed eater and blower. I'm starting out of a Mazda6, 4 door sedan lol. Thank you for your words of encouragement.
30 years old here and looking for a side hustle that I can turn into a business. Getting as much information as I can so hopefully this helps a bit. Doesn’t seem like to expensive of an industry to get into
Good luck to you man. I’m doing the same. I have kids though so I’m just worried if the “side hustle” is going to take valuable time away from them while also working full time
What Mike does isn't for everybody. What I've done to improve myself in my business is to take the ideas or little tricks or different methods of doing things paying attention to the small details of how stuff to organize being the trailer everything is about saving time which saves money and applying that to your business. Your business does not have to be Augusta for you to be happy and successful
Thing with starting up this type of business is that all you need you already have. Chances are you have a lawnmower and a truck, or at least a car. Bring along that and a few rakes and your golden.
Been thinking about starting my own lawn business...just something about doing a yard and seeing it flourish and get paid for it haha! Thanks for the tips!
I bought a Stihl blower for 500, a used Honda 21 for like 300, a new weed eater for about 275, and started selling cleanups on the side, I used the money I made to buy everything else. Then with my paychecks from my job I would buy tools for the job I was going to do next and charge a little higher to make sure my tools bought themselves more or less and now I have everything I need to go solo.

Keith Kalfas, I listened to your book as well as Mike's. I started in lawn care, or more specifically, mowing, as an 8 year old. By the time I was 18, I had to choose between playing ball in college or pursuing my 6 figure business in a less than ideal market. I left the business behind. Fast forward 19 years and this past spring, I'm standing on my lawn when one of the three biggest names in my current city drove by and stopped. He got out and said, "man, I don't know what you know, but this is the best lawn by far in the entire area." Exactly one day later, another of the big 3 stopped and said, "how the hell do you do that?" Finally, two weeks later, the third pulls up, gets out and said, "do you mind if I walk on it?" Of course I said "go right ahead". He took his boots and socks off and walked around for 5 minutes. At that point, I went to "80% go". I own 4 other businesses, so I am no stranger to systems, procedures and time management. After some calculation, I began structuring my business. I added 134 accounts within the first month and expanded my services slightly. I now have an additional 300 on the books for fall and spring service. So, I can't say exactly how motivational the shade tree conversation in your book was, or Mike's book was for that matter because I was committed before I listened, but you guys were a confidence booster, and I appreciate you for that.

Essentially what Mike is doing is taking the idea for what McDonald's has done to the food service industry and applying it to Landscaping. Making things simple less-skilled less personal which in terms will increase profit but it's a customer service industry and for me there's nothing better than at the end of the day when you trim this little old ladies bushes and and she was so nervous cuz she had the same guy doing her bushes for 30 years and then you come in and do it better and she's just so happy you made her year by making her yard look better that's what it's about. And of course making some money. I'm in no way trying to hate on Mike because he does on for a lot of good advice and does want others to succeed which is commendable and I respect him for that but if you're just starting out your business doesn't have to be Augusta for you to be very successful and happy

I wish guys nothing but the best when they get into this industry but one thing that Mike does which isn't a bad thing is he wants to grow the business to the point where it's massive which is just more time to be put in as the owner after your day is long over. There's nothing wrong with doing what a guy like Florida Turf Pro has done and grows business to the point where makes him a good living he's happy comfortable in the business can almost run itself cuz you have good guys. People need to realize they don't need to have a million accounts in 2 million dollars in Revenue to be happy. Being happy is enjoying what you do how you do it and the results that delivers the lifestyle you want
Exactly well said sir. That's all I am looking for. Saw someone said they made 200k their first season. That's all I want. To provide for my family and be able to travel and be happy. I have been mowing lawns since I was just a little kid. Now I want to know how to run an actual business doing it.
Thid is what im saying. I just want my own small business in my area and be able to make a living. I dont even want to run a multi million dollar business
@@saywhat4314 if you really want to get into the industry work for somebody for a couple of years. Lots of excellent pre owned equipment out there for half the cost. Lots of people start lawn care and just quit. Equipment can be picked up with low hours. I totally disagree on that turf master. The ferris fw15 is maybe $400 more and twice the mower. Good luck. This recession is going to thin the herd bigly.

Where I’m from there’s so many lawn care businesses commercial and residential it’s almost pointless to even try to start one yourself. Even though I absolutely love mowing and have worked for many lawn care businesses. I just can’t get anything going
Just the opposite is true. If you have many lawnscape companies around, you have many customers willing and already used to paying for lawncare. If there are none, you must tell someone to park their mower and hire you. Imho, much more difficult.
Looking to start a lawn mowing businesses, I’m nervous as most mowing services are mainly men and as a woman I’m worried I won’t get customers bc they think I won’t do as good a job

I'M HAPPY, BUT, I WILL NEVER SAY I KNOW IT ALL, BECAUSE I'LL LEARN SOME THING EVERY DAY OR NIGHT....
You can not teach somebody in a day to do landscaping and this is why the industry is easy to come up in quality to alot of people is subpar any real landscaping guy knows you can’t even teach a guy to weed properly in away that is of a good a standard in a few days it takes time but don’t worry keep flying by these yards guys like me get them all the time it takes a while to be able to do great work out here in a productive manner this is not the same as your mom or dad telling you to mow the lawn as a chore
I'm trying to start my lawn care business from scratch. I've been cutting grass since a kid and still do to this day. Always had plans to stay a lawn care business. It's coming real soon, just need more information on how to start. Thank you
Great video and very inspiring! I live in a very good place for lawn care and only had to spend $15 on advertising last year lol. I would recommend buying quality equipment rather than $10,000 up front on marketing. But hey I'm not making $150,000 a year in revenue either so.
any successful business has a plan, work rules, a brand that must be defended, promoted and numerous other things newbies don't even know yet. buying into a franchise gives you all that, and ready customers calling because they recognize the brand for quality, on time delivery, price etc. "do the homework", know the brand before you drop any coin. you do not want to buy a franchise based on price alone. McDonalds is a real estate firm disguised as a hamburger joint. they have crews that go out and find the best RE in town (rising value) before they award a franchise. a burger joint on every block that someone can buy and hang a shingle on. two very different business models and if all goes as planned different outcomes.
GOOD STUFF I JUST TURN 40 BUT I DON'T CARE HOW OLD I AM I WANT TO START ME A LANDSCAPING BUSINESS ASAP I HAD GOT SICK WITH LUPUS BUT I NEED A SIDW HUSTLE AND THIS WOULD BE PERFECT
You can do it Jim. You are correct age doesn't matter and you need very few supplies to start. We're in your corner.😀Would you start in your local neighbor? Have you created a business plan?
We actually talked about this in our other lawn care business videos, and we’re going to be releasing another one here shortly that touches on that question.

It's becoming exhausting working 14 hour days 7 days a week... :( HELP!!!!

Big mistake, partnerships never work. Do it on your own

This kid slept in his van to save up. Wow what a great kid. I would’ve gave I a room for free at my house 💯 U deserve it

this channel has crazy content, thanks from Brazil !
"Call Us, When You Get There"
Many Names
Lots of excellent pre owned equipment out there for half the cost. Lots of people start lawn care and just quit. Equipment can be picked up with low hours. I totally disagree on that turf master. The ferris fw15 is maybe $400 more and twice the mower. Good luck. This recession is going to thin the herd bigly.
That’s a good point, maybe should buy used equipment when you’re starting out.
I am watching UpFlip grown in front of my eyes and I haven't started a business yet. Do i need more advises to start a business?
Just do it! Once you start you’ll learn

Wow look at that guys mustaste at 10:20 Awesome!
You miss one of the most important questions when it comes to business is all the licensing costs and processing where to do it how to do it pros and cons of doing it or not doing it
For my mower I use a scag 30 inch. Easy maintenance and smooth cuts
Nice!
Hey do you need a website?
I like it but what about during winter, snow removal i guess ?🤔
Some businesses are seasonal. We hope you enjoyed - thank you for watching! ☺️
Hey do you need a website?
Thank you guys God bless 🙌
Our pleasure Rene. Same to you. 😀Thanks for watching. Is this the first video you've seen on the channel?
@@UpFlip Thank you yes it is the first one I also subscribed. 😁🙏

Hey do you need a website?
Doing the work and using the equipment is easy!! It’s getting & retaining the suckers I mean customers that’s the hard part!😂
Retaining people's business is the ultimate battle 😅
Thanks so much this might change my future
you are smart people and one day i will start it my self.
Hi Danny Tube! You are very much capable of starting your own business. 😀Would you start a lawn care business such as this?
You can not teach somebody in a day to do landscaping and this is why the industry is easy to come up in quality to alot of people is subpar any real landscaping guy knows you can’t even teach a guy to weed properly in away that is of a good a standard in a few days it takes time but don’t worry keep flying by these yards guys like me get them all the time it takes a while to be able to do great work out here in a productive manner this is not the same as your mom or dad telling you to mow the lawn as a chore
Landscaping does take a lot of unique skills and plenty of time to learn the business and techniques properly.
Holy crap, Agusta is right around the corner from me. Didn't expect a local company to pop up
I'm trying to start my lawn care business from scratch. I've been cutting grass since a kid and still do to this day. Always had plans to stay a lawn care business. It's coming real soon, just need more information on how to start. Thank you
The more time you think about starting it, the more time you are losing from making money. Chase that bag!
@@n3f. thank you, I needed to hear that !
Get out there and save up the tools and stuff u need to make the business man
You can do it NinaBoy! Be sure to check out all our lawn care content including more videos and blogs.
@@UpFlip Thank You UpFlip!! Definitely enjoy watching your content. Very helpful
Getting the equipment is the easy part. Weedwhacker, push mower, rake. Doesn’t even have to be new.
Great video and very inspiring! I live in a very good place for lawn care and only had to spend $15 on advertising last year lol.
I would recommend buying quality equipment rather than $10,000 up front on marketing. But hey I'm not making $150,000 a year in revenue either so.
Thank you! Yeah that makes sense but I also think it depends on the area of service.
@@UpFlip absolutely right! Thanks for all your content!
500 on ads. Rest on equipment and payroll when you want to expand fast. 150k in first year....

"Franchise is a form of mentorship...." now give me money
any successful business has a plan, work rules, a brand that must be defended, promoted and numerous other things newbies don't even know yet. buying into a franchise gives you all that, and ready customers calling because they recognize the brand for quality, on time delivery, price etc.
Good hardworking men👍
Thanks 👍
Damn who’s paying for the trailer at 1:44 🤣🤣
GOOD STUFF I JUST TURN 40 BUT I DON'T CARE HOW OLD I AM I WANT TO START ME A LANDSCAPING BUSINESS ASAP I HAD GOT SICK WITH LUPUS BUT I NEED A SIDW HUSTLE AND THIS WOULD BE PERFECT
You can do it Jim. You are correct age doesn't matter and you need very few supplies to start. We're in your corner.😀Would you start in your local neighbor? Have you created a business plan?
#1 should always be "write a Business Plan".
This be encouraging me to start up a lawn care business :D am 13 by the way
Gotta start young!
what if you don't have $25,000 laying around to start a lawn care business a lot of people don't have that kind of money 🤑??
We actually talked about this in our other lawn care business videos, and we’re going to be releasing another one here shortly that touches on that question.
I'm waiting on everything to go through I got approved by federal just waiting on state then I'll buy all my equipment so I cans use as a tax right off
That's great news Jeff! Keep us updated :)

Great guy!! ✨
We thought so too!
dont know much about lawn equipment but 120 for a sprayer 😂 bought a cheap one for 15 bucks works fine. just playing only use mine about 2 days a year
The dude was like "how much you need?" 🤣
So buying into a franchise is not starting from scratch.
I just went full time with my lawn care business and I'm having a hard time managing jobs. Should I have specific days/times for mowing, estimates, aeration? Also what about guys that don't show up for work? How do I deal with that? Im restricting my income because I plan on my guys not showing up... Which means I'm doing ALL the work. It's becoming exhausting working 14 hour days 7 days a week... :( HELP!!!!
The key will be to find reliable workers. How many have you tried to hire that failed? What methods are using to find workers?
When you hire you need them to "buy into the progress" of your company. Mike does this with his P4P program. Ck it out.
Hey do you need a website?
I’m 14 makeing $125 a week saving up for a zero turn because 5 pretty big yard with a push mower is kinda hard but nothing come easy in life

I want to start doing lawn care I've got a decent amount of equipment tractor, push, trimmer, I would like to grab a zero turn. but have no idea how to get the business to or what to charge for the lawns I have a full time job and a partime but really want to do something for myself.
Derrick have you checked out our blogs and other videos on starting a lawn care business? All the information you need is on our blogs and videos.
Mike your 100% did start by asking people a lot. This is the reason I watch your content. Hope to do business one day.
Good luck Kobe!
Hey do you need a website?
All I’m confused with is how can I start estimates for yards, how do I charge my customers, what’s fair.
Inspiring no doubt
