Haha this is actually a genius business. When I worked outside of Seattle in WA, in landscape construction, every time we would go on an estimate there would be dog poo everywhere. Good for you guys for solving a problem and a needed service 👏
I did this years ago while I had a landscape biz. I had 50 customers in a month barely trying. Maybe I'll start up again. Labor was the tuff part. Finding the right pay per hour is key. I give this guy a ton of credit for being able to pay that hourly rate, smart biz owners right here. Totally possible to do this. A ton of work but def possible. No doubt. Got have hustle in you.
There will always be people willing to pay for a service that they just don't want to do themselves. I bet they don't walk their dogs either so this could easily be a 2 person business. 1 x scooping & 1 x walking. Don't forget the dog food delivery option. You'll need refrigeration for the meat loaf and room for bags or barrels of dry food. A dog food manufacturer will pay well to have a vehicle with their branding visiting dog owners all day. You could negotiate a supply deal where you can make big retail margin on selling their product. Expand the business web site to sell additional dog related products. Then there's the vet referrals earning a kickback that could also be expanded to include dog transport. Now scoop that poop!
When I was injured, walking wasn’t happening in my yard. I had 2 chihuahuas and we, me and the chichis wanted a clean yard. LOVED the pooperscoopers in my town.
When I clean someone’s house I take the garbage out of their bins inside and I put it in the trash dumpster outside their house. To expect me to take all of their garbage home as part of my service would be insane. It would just need to be stated prior that the poop would go into their garbage dumpster. Period. The poop would never go with you.

A lot of people are saying this would be the first to go when a recession hits. Well, my mom has been cleaning houses for 25 years, and yes, clients have left during tough times, but not all of them. I face that in the painting business too but there are always people that will want your service even in bad times
Fellow painter here so is my dad and (ironically) his wife cleans houses for herself for a living. 😂 But yeah, I can confirm your comment on both fronts, from 3 perspectives lol
i experienced it with lawn mowing.. during the pandemic over half my clients started mowing their own lawns because they were suddenly home all the time.. then a $20 sensor on my $10,000 riding mower broke during the computer chip shortage which basically put me completely out of business for 6 months while waiting for the dealer to get a sensor. Business insurance sure would have been nifty 😢
We have been domestic cleaners longer than I care to remember. It’s a passion, no holidays, we guarantee their service even if we have to reschedule. They guarantee our business even when they go away on holidays. We service a niche clientele who can afford to be maintained on our roster. We found prior to becoming selective that clients who went away wanted to save money by not having their clean. That’s fair enough but I refused to hold their placement on our schedule if they cancelled their cleans due to holidays. If they expected us to clean for them and remain on our schedule, they also needed to commit to us too. It works both ways. We have never advertised, only word of mouth. $60per hour. Min 4 hours per clean. We’ve never looked back since introducing the changes to our policy.
As a service contractor of 40 plus years who builds client bases in a ten mile radius of the shop what I heard was: One tech can manage 150 homes, or 30 yards per day. This translates to 16 min per yard including travel. 8 min as claimed to do a yard fits with my huge back yard and two dogs, but only 8 min of travel between jobs would mean they are all in the same neighborhood, on the same block, or real close. I understand client density but this seems very best case, and rushing like that leads to accidents in the field or driving. Excellent presentation regardless, and this guys systems are solid and the golden key.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! Your experience really adds depth. Client density definitely plays a huge role, and it's true that optimizing routes can be tricky without sacrificing quality or safety.
If they are in the same neighborhood, it could take 30 seconds to get to the next house. If you are servicing a lot of houses in that neighborhood, and then drive 15 minutes to another neighborhood, it can all average out. I live in a cul-de-sac, and 8 or 9 of the houses here use the same lawn guy. It's definitely a good scenario, but I don't think it's too out of reach with the right neighborhood.
I have been doing side hustles like this for thirty years. I have been full time in business and part time. Washing windows is another great cheap business. But this is one that is in high demand and no one does it
I've seen messages from our city saying not to put you residential dog poop in the trash, but to flush it instead. I have chosen to ignore those instructions, but apparently, some landfills care. ***Edit*** I just figured out why our landfill cares. All our residential trash gets dumped at a transfer station first, where actual people sort through it for metal large enough to identify. It is then loaded on larger trucks before being taken to the actual dump. So yeah, ours cares so people don't have to handle it.
I have two dogs, one small and one large. You cant even skip a day without mine-sweeping or there will be poop tracked into the house. I cant imagine someone waiting a full month.
@@dl4087average dog still poops 2-3 times a day ,that’s about 60-90 piles of 💩 multiplied by the number of dogs if the owner is waiting a whole month and not picking up on between

I wish it was more common to disclose if numbers are profit or revenue. I was taking home 40k per month after taxes as a 25% owner of my 5 retail stores. In 2017. People say $200,000 per month. We were crushing those numbers as far as revenue. All nunbers are good. I just wish there was morr clarity.
He clearly said about 30% margin. The numbers provided were obviously total revenue. Also what the heck were you selling at the retail stores that was pulling 160k profit between 5 stores in a month? $1100 profit after taxes and expenses per store every day?
I worked for a company called Doo Doo Squad located in Elk Grove California. It's not all as it cooks up to be. There is lots of driving involved which equals maintenance on the vehicle. I recommend using the Toyota Prius. It will save on gas by switching to electric. I used to service 30 to 40 houses a day. It might seem easy but it's not. Especially on hot summer days and rainy days.
It’s all about route density and proper route management. A Prius isn’t a good choice though, the back of the pickup will be full by days end, you gonna drive around with 20 large bags of dog $hit in the back seat on a hot summers day? It would be impossible to keep employees.
It doesn't necessarily seem easy. Except for the guy running the operation who barely actually works like his employees do. He said he could leave town for 6 months and it would still operate without him.
Lol! Imagine driving around in a prius with a bunch of dog poop in the trunk. - Think about what the trunk would look and smell like after a week, let alone a year.
@jazzyg530 think of the work and time invested into building it up to this point. Now he gives people jobs. Take that 6 month vacation if need be. He earned it.

I got to really thinking this is a great idea now that I live in Texas and see the totally differentmanagement people and their pets especially the apartments. This is definitely something to not laugh about. I am considering.

Is there any not so big but lucrative business you can combine with a 9-5 job? My job has a lot of potentials so I don't want to quit but I need the extra income too.
I was in a similar situation two years ago. Starting a business might not be the best option for generating that extra income unless you're prepared to actively manage it yourself. Instead, consider going for something more passive like ETFs or REITs which can be more manageable and rewarding with less time commitment. You can even use an FA for that allowing for minimal effort while keeping your it relatively safe. This approach worked for me and I now make about 12k a month,. I plan to still own a business but much later when I'm ready to retire. Good luck!
@@MandyLuke Nice... This makes a lot of sense... I've been considering going into this sort of thing for sometime now... Heard its a nice way to make some extra funds... How do you get a good f.a and how expensive are they...

Genius idea. If i was younger I might do it but what an opportunity for people to start a biz! I'm in digital marketing and loving it. Not much to start and I enjoy all aspects of it. I also love outsourcing the work when I don't need to do it myself.
That sounds like a good plan, because I certainly wouldn’t pay more than MAYBE $10 a week for this service. I just can’t justify this cost when I could pay a kid in the neighborhood like $5-$10 a week, lol! Although, I’m not hating on this business idea. People are busy and it takes time to keep your yard picked up. I could see my parents paying for this service. Anyone with money that values their time more than their money would be interested, I’m sure!
@UpFlip 45 minutes - questions... how do they dispose of all the dog poop? Its one thing for individual households to put a bag in with the garbage. But en mass, large quantities of dog poop in the same place... does that change methods of disposal? Regulations? Anything? Or just toss it all into a giant dumpster?
Excellent! What a great business! The interviewer asked fabulous questions and Mr. Pooper Scooper was so knowledgeable and humble...I wish him more success he deserves it!
I heard about this back in the 1980s. The guy who was doing it then was giving all the waste to a local university where they were studying how to use the waste for fuel.
Exactly he just can’t help his urge to point out that it’s all about “poop” not very professional but it is what it is. I’ve watched a lot of these over the years and realized he just has a quirky personality 😂
My question is…..what do you do with the bagged dog poop? Does landfills accept it and where do you store it before taking to landfill if that is it’s final destination?
Our transfer station doesnot accept dog poo in trash bags or separately. Would have to travel to actual dump and pay for out of town dump sticker and purchase biodegradable bags.
This is a very good channel. Lots of insight. Helps get you away from the idea that you need a genius idea. You need to provide a service that people will pay for, and find the people who will pay for it. It's good to see story after story of how it happens.
Is there any type of special medical coverage for the age old "pooper scooper's wrist" injury? Any studies being done to help all of these injured scooper vets?

Agreed, very good question as I'm guessing this would be a large expense. I'm in the UK and finding it hard to find any info on bio waste disposal part from expensive incinerator services.
Its a great idea. But would never fly in my area unfortunately. The cost per yard would have to be around x2. I dont think you could do 30 yards a day in the mountains.
I wish my neighbor would hire a service like this as their dogs crap all over the place and i was for a little bit of time trying to help keep it up because their dogs would crap on my side, there is no fencing because i am around a manufacturer housing. I just think it's disrespectful that the neighbors do not care enough to clean up their own dogs mess. I am curious if there's anything like this in Michigan? Also.. is it true that you can spray or pour something to help dissolve dog waste ?
Thats cool to hear the disinfect after every yard so there not bringing germs from yard to yard making dogs sick. That's really good and a good selling point it says you care alittle bit about the animals and not just making money
This is a great example of how we are al literally surrounded by opportunity all of the time. Often once you have your first success you look at the world differently and you realize that everyday, all of the time you are literally wading waist deep through opportunities. Or in this case that could be waste deep lol Open your eyes and be curious and you will find you are surrounded constantly with great options.
Staying curious and open-minded really is the key to uncovering those hidden possibilities, even if sometimes you have to wade through the “waste” to find them!
A very thorough evaluation was done to learn and understand this business model.👍 I've seen Dog Parks not cleaned and maintained properly. That could be another component to add to your services. Picnic areas around beaches would be another one. State parks could use a lot more attention. Many times I would come up to a seating area and there would be raccoon 💩 on the tables and benches. No one was there to clean it up. Campsites do poor service in this type of cleanup as well. I can see where there could be a demand for this service.

I must've missed the explanation of waste disposal... what procedure happens after the tech loads the truck? (i.e. take to a dump site? bring back to base dumpsters?...)
I didn’t get to finish the video, but I was hoping to see where all the poop goes and if that’s something that can be sold to companies who deal with compost and mulch, or something along those lines.

@ then you don’t need to start the business or use the business! lol in America 🇺🇸 we say the best line of business, is to mind your business! God bless this channel for assisting people with moving forward and being positive! Thanks 🙏
This is the most American business idea i have ever seen. I can't possibly imagine this business taking off in other countries.
I’d like to do it but I have disabilities
Could I hire people to do it and take a money cut?
What did you charge per yard? I'm a flooring installer and I literally am fixing to give this a try
Much respect. Honest working man and building a business for others
Having that in a service agreement would really cut down on waste management fees which can add up quick
I’ve been doing this in south Florida now for a year it’s crazy easy money make sure to lock customers in with a contract there is a lot of competition !

A lot of people are saying this would be the first to go when a recession hits. Well, my mom has been cleaning houses for 25 years, and yes, clients have left during tough times, but not all of them. I face that in the painting business too but there are always people that will want your service even in bad times
Hola juanito 🤣
Fellow painter here so is my dad and (ironically) his wife cleans houses for herself for a living. 😂 But yeah, I can confirm your comment on both fronts, from 3 perspectives lol
I clean houses someone always has money lol.
i experienced it with lawn mowing.. during the pandemic over half my clients started mowing their own lawns because they were suddenly home all the time.. then a $20 sensor on my $10,000 riding mower broke during the computer chip shortage which basically put me completely out of business for 6 months while waiting for the dealer to get a sensor.
Services like this are perfect for animal owners who are elderly or have mobility issues, etc.

Exactly
I have issues myself
his background in digital marketing really stands out, very smart man!
Right on! It clearly helped him scale and reach so many customers.
If a client was on a payment schedule then you could schedule out which sections of town you do and when. Seems pretty simple to me.

I line the scooper and the bucket with a trash bag - easier cleanup. Maybe more expensive but saves time.
I do the bucket and liner method as well. No way am I carrying that heavy dust pan full of poop across an acre yard.
@AHD2105 Landfills don't care honestly, and the bags are not air tight. Plus once the truck smash it with the rest of the garbage it just rips open.
Feed your dog's better food and they will poop less.
@AHD2105 exactly!

Especially on hot summer days and rainy days.
but if the numbers from the video are real then you would´ve made 20k with 40 houses a day if it wasnt for a company.

Is there any not so big but lucrative business you can combine with a 9-5 job? My job has a lot of potentials so I don't want to quit but I need the extra income too.
you need time to run any business, especially when starting out
I was in a similar situation two years ago. Good luck!

My question is…..what do you do with the bagged dog poop? Does landfills accept it and where do you store it before taking to landfill if that is it’s final destination?

This is a great example of how we are al literally surrounded by opportunity all of the time.
Often once you have your first success you look at the world differently and you realize that everyday, all of the time you are literally wading waist deep through opportunities. Or in this case that could be waste deep lol
Open your eyes and be curious and you will find you are surrounded constantly with great options.
Staying curious and open-minded really is the key to uncovering those hidden possibilities, even if sometimes you have to wade through the “waste” to find them!

I've seen Dog Parks not cleaned and maintained properly. That could be another component to add to your services. Picnic areas around beaches would be another one.
