I grew up as a black girl with very large lips. Got made fun of in every which way for it in school. Now, the same people who made fun of me are getting lip fillers themselves looking like they’re about to be in an episode of botched
I seriously DON'T get it. People used to make fun of black people for large lips, tease East Asians for their eyes, and now they do lips fillers and lift their eyes the way they mocked Asians. Old people try their best to look young, and here we have a generation of 15-25 yo girls who look like they are in their 40s hahahahahaha. Not just fillers but veneers, too. I just don't get it. Why do they want to fix things which are not broken??? Those ppl need to seek help from psychologists, not plastic surgeons!
Same! Also for the big backside too. Now you all want this. Beauty standards are fickle and just move in trends and aren't worth paying so much heed to.
@@khanhlinhpham They wanna have those trending features while still looking Eurocentric overall. They'll take the full lips, slightly upturned eyes (they wouldn't want actual monolids though!), and maybe get tanner, but they don't _actually_ wanna look black or East/SE/Central Asian. For example, no one's clamoring to get a wider or flatter nose.
The fillered-up lips will never look like naturally big lips no matter what. It always shows and folks who do it and persist it's great just lie to themselves.
I really appreciate how you acknowledge risk without being alarmist. It makes it much more meaningful when you do talk about how dangerous and irresponsible some of this stuff is because I know you mean it.
We can’t even imagine what is going through his brain because as a plastic surgeon, a pro he knows exactly the butchery that the injector hack would have done to that person (victim??)
I had lip filler 3 years ago ( 1/2 syringe on top lip half on bottom) and the filler is STILL there. They’ve definitely gone down and I’m happy with them but after watching this I think it will be there forever. Also Stephanie is right about water retention. When I wake up in the morning my face is usually puffy and my lips look like they did when I had the filler done
DON'T DO IT!! I got one and a half syringes back in 2019, then another "top off" in 2020. Now four years later, my cheeks push up under my eyes and makes me look odd! I wish I had known all this back then!
@@ilonaniinemae4735 When we had fillers put in our faces back in the late 2000s - we were told, "it is TEMPORARY, it will dissolve on it's own in 6 months." We really believed them. It was a lie.
As much as I sorta want plastic surgery at 52, I will also say there is something really nice about aging as a woman, and not being so stuck on my physical beauty. As a reasonably attractive woman in my younger years, I LIKE THAT THE PRESSURE IS OFF!! I never used to go out without makeup and hair done, and now I just know it doesn’t matter, and I just can be in comfy clothes and no makeup. No one sees me, and in a weird way I really like that.
I experienced the same thing at your age. Liberation! And yet, invisibility doesn’t last. Mine wore off in my late fifties. I’d ceased wearing "office face” makeup, just red lipstick and concealer. I have a wash and go shaggy haircut. I remain fit. I’ve got better things to do. *Poof* - visible to men over 40 and oddly, women of all ages.
I'm 39 and same! I'm no longer harassed by men and it makes me so happy. I'm not going to deny the aging process -- I'm grateful for the years I've lived and hope to have some more. After 40 my focus will be taking care of this body that is no longer at its peak, and to keep my mind sharp and continue learning.

The contrast between Gary’s low and soothing voice and Stephanie’s high-pitched voice had me💀 (I love the content of both but I always listen to them separately lol)
I've loved her content but really disappointed she's resorted to super clickbait/ragebait titles and calling all sorts of celebrities a "creep" with no context
I think as surgery and other procedures become more accessible natural beauty will become the “status symbol” that plastic surgery once was if that makes sense. I think we’re actually headed in a direction where celebs will be even less honest about procedures because in a way when everyone can afford it it becomes kind of gauche. Of course people will continue getting procedures but I think they’ll want it to be even less detectable (ex. How super perky and large fake boobs used to be the trend and now people want a Kendall Jenner boob job)
It's because she change her haircolor for that blond and the way she do her makeup. She was much more beautiful with her brown hair. Now she look so tired and skinny. The beauty of her features are lost with that blond. That doesn't suits her well. She look gorgeous with darker hair.
@StanarhymeswithDonna I actually had someone response to me about this comment and said that she had lost weight and she looks this way cause of her changing the way she does her make up. I said no, it's massive plastic surgery and told her to look at older pictures of Ariana. This woman must be blind.
My beloved 91-year-old Grandma Donna died on October 14th. During her funeral last weekend, no one was mourning the loss of her aesthetic...we were mourning the loss of the gloriously wonderful, beautifully genuine, and empathetic woman she was. We need to get out of our own ways of accepting What Is.
As I got older I noticed that my face got let's say more droopy. Since then I make an effort to smile more. It lifts the face and people react nicely to a smile as well. That's a win win situation.
I worked with disabled people and there was a stroke patient getting botox injections in her arm to help with the stiffness. I cannot imagine using it for cosmetic instead of medical reasons.
Dr Gary I love that you do these reactions to Steph's videos - I enjoy her channel as a space where I don't feel alone in my avoidance of and discomfort with the mass filler/botox industry (the area I live in, when I walk down the high street sometimes it feels like I'm the only woman in 20s-30s that doesn't have lip filler) but I appreciate even more how you go over the points she makes and add further scientific additions and balanced discussion/debate. Really, really appreciate the job you do as an educator. You help people understand the beauty and aesthetics industry more which in turn helps people feel more confident. Thank you :)
18:08 this is such an interesting point to make. In the 90s-00s, there was a big obsession with skinniness. Models were starving themselves and doing drugs for the “heroin chic” look, leading to many young girls developing eating disorders. Now it’s the other way around, with fuller bodies and faces being trendy. The Kardashian’s and other celebrities started with BBLs, lip fillers, etc, then everyone else followed, leading to young girls risking their lives to have these surgeries. The cycle of women killing themselves while trying to achieve the beauty standard will just continue
The beauty standards are CREATED by other women! WE need to stop! Women also exclude each other from groups based on looks. I will fight anyone who denies this. We're catty asf and need to become more mature than this.
@@UltraGalacticSuperFantastic Yes exactly. Women are so hyper-critical of each other in a weird jealous way and we will never be free unless we stop obsessing over the way we look and trying to 'one-up' the other. Women have ZERO class solidarity or sense of community compared to other oppressed groups and it's killing us.
Most people look horrible with fillers and most plastic surgery gives that uncanny look. Most of these ladies are pretty and don’t need so many plastic surgeries and fillers to look nice. Their small lips go with their features.
I have always thought about these celebrities having to look at their children in the face and see all of the things they disliked and changed about themselves. If i had a daughter and had to explain why I looked like her when I was her age and changed many of the things that she inherited from me because I didn't like them, I would feel incredibly ashamed 😔
@j-ymoney5112 your twin is your age, and you didn't give birth to them. Imagine the insecurities it would put on a young teen who already has enough to deal with through social media. Your reply doesn't make sense because it's not even close to the circumstances I'm talking about.
@@ChrisJack1212 no actually it’s worse than what you say lol my face is duplicated onto another human more so than a daughter and mother. If you have plastic surgery it’s because you didn’t like something on your own face and your kid has nothing to do with your face, and when they are old enough they will have their own opinions on how they look and opinions on plastic surgery and if you are a good parent you will focus on making them feel loved and accepted despite how you feel about yourself and your own looks. I my not have given birth to my twin but I’ve spent my whole life being a duo and if she got something done, I wouldn’t take it personally nor would I call into question the feature she changed on my own face. That’s her face. She likes her nose I hate mine. We have the same nose. My opinion does not drag down her opinion of her nose. The kid will feel the way they feel about their looks, because everyone does develop their own personal preferences.
@@j-ymoney5112 The issue here is: If you are an identical twin and you say you do not like something about your face that would mean you also dislike it on your twin's face as well. Of course, your twin could care less. As a parent, some of your offspring get your features, i.e. the same nose. The parent got surgery one the nose. The child inherited this nose and might feel insecure about it since it realised the parent went under the knife to "fix" theirs. How would the parent explain to the child that their nose is totally fine when they went to extreme measures to get it changed?
I started watching you around the time that I was seriously considering filler, and the logic that you work with in your presentation had me REALLY considering all options-before, after and in the future. I value your opinions and insight.

We don't know if Kylie's doctor is actually good. Actually I would wager to say that the work(if she's just going to just one person) shows is they are not the "top". A good doctor would tell you no to too much filler and wouldn't cave for money.

I get the good place where Stephanie is coming from but she's so stressful...I feel stressed and uneasy everytime I watch her videos. Doc Gary has a very soothing voice and calm attitude, THANK YOU Doc for this.
I totally agree with you. The woman's voice I's utterly obnoxious whereas Dr Gary Linkov has an exceptionally and extremely attractive speaking voice. A voice can make or break a person.
@@carolinejones8382 I know, I just played Doc's videos in the background just for his calm tone, respectful way of communicating and very soothing voice. It is especially jarring when men raise their voice, rage (the opposite of calm) and to make it worse have a high pitched voice...I can't stand it. I lose respect for such men, I dont care if they have a PhD in Mathematics and are explaining the meaning of the Universe. I can't. This has become a deal breaker for me with men: emotional, raging, high pitched voice to "make a point", yelling of any type...It's a NO in business, friendships, dating, service provider, etc. Moreover, some men are very emotional and negatively charged and to cover it up and pretend to be calm they speak condescendingly. I just cut them off, I'm not even engaging.
I feel like once you inject filler, it never truly goes away even if you dissolve it. Small amounts will always remain. That’s why I’m never getting it.
?could you elaborate idk maybe i didnt get enough sleep. Although i will say her showing jaclyn hills face as swelled because of filler when its more probable that its from alcoholism seems a bit sketch but otherwise Stephanie makes great points
Lasers, nitrogen treatments (doctor basically burns the scar with it and it deflates into a smaller scar. 2-3 treatments get rid of it) or hormone injections. But!!! the scars may return. My got my post surgery keliod injected about a year ago and it stared growing again (not as big, but I notice). My scar after a laser birthmark removal that I got treated with liquid nitrogen also started slowly returning like 5-6 years later
@@thectyptid00 wow about the nitrogen treatment I've never really heard of this one. I thought costeroide injections and radio frequency microneedling are the best one so far. But thankyou for replying tho!
@@ninismanofoot nitrogen is top tier as far as my experience goes. It leaves a bubbled up burn for week or two but it works faster than laser/microneedling and it is cheaper (at least in my country). @@mightytaiger3000well she is special to me. For many years I had soaked in information, and tried to create practices to help me be healthy and love myself as a person, but could never defeat my lifelong facial dysmorphia! It wasn’t until I watched 4-6 her videos a couple of years ago, and what can I say- she made a profound positive effect on me and many of her viewers!! I am finally free of such feelings and can finally enjoy my unique features!
That was absolutely spot on Dr. !!! If we don't have the money or where with all to get surgeries like this, and then compare ourselves to the celebrities that have the money to do this- when they proclaim that they've not done anything , we look down upon ourselves so terribly when we need to know hey, this is not natural! I actually paid for this huge unnatural change .And it does end up helping those of us who are not celebrities to feel better about ourselves. I think you have done so much to help us along that path about feeling better about ourselves Thank you as always for all of your wonderful videos.❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and will be watching more often. Your honesty is wholesome and honorable. Please keep it coming and don’t lose yourself to the “fame”. Thank you for your time
I agree, the best injectors are using small quantities and want their clients to represent their work. They know when to tell you to STOP. I have had about 4 cc’s injected all over my face in a period of 2 years. I got it to help balance my face and help with symmetry. I’m very happy with my results and know it will probably be in my face for years. I don’t need to go back every 6 months as many practitioners have talked their patients into thinking they need to do in order to keep their results.
apart from reconstruction after a traumatic medical emergency, there is really no reason to go for plastic surgery for anyone. It's has been a slippery slope since its inception.
I have had lip fillers for years, but nobody is able to say. Because it is done properly and they look extremely natural. The issue is not the filler, the problem is people going to any “doctor” to get them and wanting their face to look so over the top.
Exactly. I’ve had lip filler for 7 years now. My injector absolutely will not go overboard with me because she has integrity. I typically only go once a year and get a half syringe.
People don't realise when you keep trying to fix yourself on the outside, you'll still never feel good enough on the inside. This is legit mental illness.
When i was in middle school, i became obsessed with Joan Rivers' stand-up. Comedy aside, she was always very brazen about her surgeries and never shyed away from it. That kind of personality that showed me when you live in your truth and stand firm in your decisions; you become unfuckable with in a way.
I really appreciate both of your content. Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail so many aspects of these current procedures for people all over the world. Every video is valuable and we can confidently share the information with others who may be interested ✨
I’ve always known this stuff about filler- how it obviously stretches the skin, not only by balloon effect but also increased weight means a greater pull of gravity on the skin, and all of the manipulation of the skin also stretches it. Still, I did it once stupidly because a friend was recommending it. TG I never did it again.
I often think about the effect parents have to their kids. Imagine growing up to look like your parent when he/she started changing his/hers face. It's like the parent already said that hey, that face doesn't look good - it needs to change. It'll be interesting to see when the Kardashian kids grow up in that sense
Doctor, thank you for the video! Your voice is so soothing. I am sure you’re extremely busy. But if you’d record an audio book, I’d pay for it. I am sure many others would too! 😅
I’d avoid filler totally considering it always migrates and can clog your lymph nodes, also it doesn’t go away and shows up years later on mris, I can’t see why that would ever be worth it
@MariaCastro-jm5qn I mean they're watching this video, which is educational on the matter, and sharing their personal experience, which is valuable to the conversation. Attacking people getting injectables isn't going to achieve anything.
It's good that you're open with it, but personally I'm shook that anyone is letting this stuff near their faces lol There are also reports of the acid going into the brain
@@unturned6066 So, Brazil is a reference in plastic surgery and there are many more safety measures adopted here than in the US. The relationship we have with the procedures here is very different from what you have in North America. I read the latest studies on acid and they are really worrying for those who do it a lot. In my case, it was just one dose once... I'm very happy with the result, since after a long depression my skin became very saggy, and today I'm very confident again.
I have 2 beautiful neighbors, they are gorgeous. They keep getting/talking about getting more work done. They can’t see it’s actually making them look worse. It’s becoming so obvious because of how much they continue to do. It’s crazy, I’m not sure if they can’t see it because they are addicted, or if they are just super insecure. Super sad though, because much like the women in this video, they were beautiful before and certainly didn’t need it.
I would 've loved seeing you react to the whole Video of stephanie. youre opinion on the more severe side effects she had talked about in her video is what i would have like to see .
I had a little filler in my tear through three years ago and it changed my life for the better. It was very subtle, it looks natural and three years later on it is still in place.
I fortunately have a lovely dermatologist who is honest about what will look good and what won’t. I got lip filler for the first time last year and I was told they wouldn’t do over a certain amount. It is definitely still there and I can feel it, even after a year! I will go back and get little bits but it absolutely stays, y’all.
I am 66 and have done nothing to my face. No fillers, no botox, nothing. My face looks fine. Not too many wrinkles. Maybe because I didn´t do anything. I used my money to fun instead.
I did fillers for the first time in august to raise my eyebrows a bit. Hardly saw a difference. This video made me cancel my “top up” appointment. No need.
I will always feel so bad for how Doja Cat responded to Lorry Hill. And then like you say.. after losing her mind saying she was all natural she admits last year she had work done. I will forever think of that when I see her or the topic is brought up.
i had a dream last week that you were practicing at my primary care office (???) and you had a full head of hair; i was so star struck to have met you briefly in the hallway on my way to a yearly physical. it was bizarre but for some reason i was confused to see you today with a cap on. i REALLY thought you'd moved to boston, your alopecia was dormant, and you were working in internal medicine (again, i say: ???). oh well, maybe some day i'll meet you for real!!
I get lip filler but it’s so subtle, it looks natural. Pre pandemic my injector allowed half syringe, store the other half to be used within x time. So 1 syringe per year. Now they don’t store like that but my point, no one has to get multiple injections in lips. It really got out of control. The injector is key. That diy thing, wow! lol..I don’t do face filler outside lip, or injections of any kind in my face as that scares me.

She’s lying to herself at this point. She botched her face and she knows it. That’s why she’s so unwell and insecure.
she called out her own brother for having had two nose jobs and then says she hasn't had any surgery... then says there is no shame in having surgery and power to the people who do that. the fuck??? she's on face number five!!
It just goes to show the whole polygraph celebrity thing is staged
@@Justboatfishing polygraphs in general are not able to tell if someone is lying or not. it can just detect changes in heart rate, etc.
I'm an esthetician and pro MUA. I've been in the industry for over 14 years, so I have had a front row seat to the insecurities and obsession stemming from social media. I've started being brutally honest, but empathetic with my clients, letting them know what is real and achievable vs the highly edited filtered images online. You have such a calming voice, and you're educating the masses, thank you.

@lurategh - Exactly this! 👏🏽
The fillered-up lips will never look like naturally big lips no matter what. It always shows and folks who do it and persist it's great just lie to themselves.
I really appreciate how you acknowledge risk without being alarmist. It makes it much more meaningful when you do talk about how dangerous and irresponsible some of this stuff is because I know you mean it.
Would you be able to be alarmist if it's his profession
The absolutely horrified face of Dr. Linkov breaking his usual composure.
We can’t even imagine what is going through his brain because as a plastic surgeon, a pro he knows exactly the butchery that the injector hack would have done to that person (victim??)
Doctor loves Stephanie’s content hehe
it's so wholesome
I can’t wait for the natural looking or normal looking trend to come back
I had lip filler 3 years ago ( 1/2 syringe on top lip half on bottom) and the filler is STILL there. They’ve definitely gone down and I’m happy with them but after watching this I think it will be there forever. Also Stephanie is right about water retention. When I wake up in the morning my face is usually puffy and my lips look like they did when I had the filler done
Omg I came here to say this! I got one syringe almost 3 years ago and it’s still there. Very glad I didn’t continue to do it
I had a little bit of lip filler last year, it's still there...
I had 1/2 syringe 5 years ago in my top lip and it's still there and has migrated outside the lip line. Never again
DON'T DO IT!! I got one and a half syringes back in 2019, then another "top off" in 2020. Now four years later, my cheeks push up under my eyes and makes me look odd! I wish I had known all this back then!

I must wear lipstick 💄 behind my sunglasses but yes to the rest😹 except plastic surgery.
The only work I would consider at 51 is lipo on my thighs or tummy. Lol.

Your reaction videos to Stephanie’s videos are always great - Kind of filling in (no pun intended :) from a surgeons perspective &

I have been watching Stephanie for years! She used to do makeup videos. Her videos are so interesting now.
I've loved her content but really disappointed she's resorted to super clickbait/ragebait titles and calling all sorts of celebrities a "creep" with no context
Has she addressed whether she uses lip fillers? Looking at her, it might be possible she uses them a little bit.
@@hiviper yes but speaks of it in past tens
I think as surgery and other procedures become more accessible natural beauty will become the “status symbol” that plastic surgery once was if that makes sense. I think we’re actually headed in a direction where celebs will be even less honest about procedures because in a way when everyone can afford it it becomes kind of gauche. Of course people will continue getting procedures but I think they’ll want it to be even less detectable (ex. How super perky and large fake boobs used to be the trend and now people want a Kendall Jenner boob job)
At this point you and steph are just making content for each other to react to ahah 😂
Ariana is a liar, she looks like a completely different person.
It's because she change her haircolor for that blond and the way she do her makeup. She was much more beautiful with her brown hair. Now she look so tired and skinny. The beauty of her features are lost with that blond. That doesn't suits her well. She look gorgeous with darker hair.
@clairetremblay3023 no, it's massive plastic surgery, open your eyes and look at older pictures of her.
And she was so beautiful and natural before. It is very sad.
@@clairetremblay3023 that woman had surgery. stop it.
@StanarhymeswithDonna I actually had someone response to me about this comment and said that she had lost weight and she looks this way cause of her changing the way she does her make up.
A lot of facial exercises rely on the smiling movement.
Stephanie Lange is one of a kind of a TH-camr. Love her content. Same with Doctor Gary. Thanks for putting these facts out there!
Stephanie does a great job, always well researched. Thank you for highlighting her.
And now being skinny is in again, less than 10 years after that craze.
Its so freaking stupid it's not worth it.
@@UltraGalacticSuperFantastic An actual honest comment.
Most people look horrible with fillers and most plastic surgery gives that uncanny look. Most of these ladies are pretty and don’t need so many plastic surgeries and fillers to look nice. Their small lips go with their features.
You don’t notice the good work, only the botched ones.
I have always thought about these celebrities having to look at their children in the face and see all of the things they disliked and changed about themselves. If i had a daughter and had to explain why I looked like her when I was her age and changed many of the things that she inherited from me because I didn't like them, I would feel incredibly ashamed 😔
That doesn’t make sense at all. I’m a twin and if I don’t like something about my face that doesn’t transfer onto my twin at all. It’s personal. Lol.
@@j-ymoney5112 ok. The mind of a child is as mature as the mind of an adult. You got me.

Indeed.
We don't know if Kylie's doctor is actually good. Actually I would wager to say that the work(if she's just going to just one person) shows is they are not the "top". A good doctor would tell you no to too much filler and wouldn't cave for money.
Kylie is not botched lol have you seen actual cases of botched. She definitely looks altered, not botched.
Filler is approved for people 21 and up. Kylie started getting it done at around 16? That's definitely not a top doctor.

@@carolinejones8382 I know, I just played Doc's videos in the background just for his calm tone, respectful way of communicating and very soothing voice.

This has become a deal breaker for me with men: emotional, raging, high pitched voice to "make a point", yelling of any type...It's a NO in business, friendships, dating, service provider, etc.

Dr Linkov I wanna request you to please make a detailed vid on how can you treat self harm scars (they're kinda white and raised) 🙏🏾
I'm learnning a lot from this channel. Filler will NOT be in my future. The best thing I've learned so far: don't follow trends.
I used to work with a young woman who had massively over filled lips like some of those you show at the beginning. It looked crazy.
Thank goodness I was always suspicious of crosslinked HA fillers. I am a licensed Esthetian Since 1997
I'm so glad you included Stephanie Lange, she does wonders for self esteem! she has a video 'Are You Ugly Or Just Born In The Wrong Century'

Social media putting so much pressure on and what makes up beauty standards it has drove me to do drugs.

I fortunately have a lovely dermatologist who is honest about what will look good and what won’t. I got lip filler for the first time last year and I was told they wouldn’t do over a certain amount.
