    If the weather is NOT rainy, how many days can you let a fig keep ripening with the white cracking we see in this fig (assuming it hasn’t split open and exposed the red flesh)? Also assuming I live in the humid east coast.

      It depends on the humidity. If low humidity and no rain, it will dehydrate on the tree. This sometimes happens here in PA in July. With high humidity, only a day or two. With rain, a day at most.

    Blessings to you. Do you sell rooted plants or cuttings? I’m here in the Delco Pa region and looking for figs for my family that will do well here in Pa.

      Yes, I sell cuttings in November.

    Is this considered the #1 or just a White Madeira from Portugal? I have the one from Portugal and they are all under a year old and skin is tough.

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, same as White Madeira #1, which is from Portugal. Here is the "origin story":

      I like a chewy skin, so take that into account with my reviews 😁🤤

    Long neck - probably due to gravity

    Do you think you would be able to ripen fruit on this tree in your zone without using the greenhouse?

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably some. Even the longest ripening figs tend to give a few ripe fruit before frost.

    How do you use coffee grinds to prevent ants?

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just sprinkle them on top of the soil surface.

      @@PAFigs Wow, I'm a bit surprised; they are the most commonly grown fig tree here in Victoria, BC. Breba crop only here but very prolific

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I'm not sure if it is due to our late frosts/freezes we get here? My tree grew well, but never wanted to hold its brebas. It produced an abundant main crop, but they of course all dropped.

      @@PAFigs I understand; we get pretty mild winters here although we are forecast to have -2 C on Saturday so I will try to protect my brebas with a covering of some sort

    I found out how to get rid of ants and it works great. Wrap a band of masking tape or painters tape around the trunk and wipe on a layer of tanglefoot. That will catch any that try to go up the trunk. Then put out a little amdro any where you see a colony and it will wipe out all the ants in the area in 24 hours. You won’t see any ants the following day. Get the amdro granular pellets.

    • @PAFigs

      Is Amdro safe for fruit producing plants?

    • @MG-tx9yb
      @MG-tx9yb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The packaging says don’t use it on fruits and veg. It was recommended to me from Gary at laguna hills nursery. He’s insanely knowledgeable. I don’t ever put it near my fruit and the ants can’t go up into my trees because it the tanglefoot. Typically I’ll be watering and and start seeing millions of ants running around cause I’ve irritated the nest. I’ll sprinkle a tiny bit of amdro down. Just a few grains. You don’t need much at all. The ant thinks it’s food and carries it back to the nest and the next day when I water I don’t see any ants. I used to have terrible problems with aphids on my plums. I got rid of the ants and the aphids are no longer being spread around. I feel totally safe using it.
