    Thanks for putting up the video.
    I contacted LG. You must have gotten lucky, because the two different people I spoke with (one on the phone, one on live chat) both insisted that I send my defective phone into them for "inspection" and if, IF, they decide it's a manufacturing defect, they'll repair it for free. And that whole process will take around two weeks. What do I do without a phone for two weeks, well, that's my problem, according to them.
    I paid for a brand new fully functioning phone, not a defect that needs repair. They need to stand behind their product and give me what I paid for - a brand new fully functioning phone, or my money back. Because right now it's just a $600 paperweight.
    Whatever ends up happening, this will be the last time I ever buy an LG.

      That' whst Lg reps told me too, that they'll fix it... thing is, it seems like contracted 3rd party shops to address repairs, and not to replace it..

    You did a real public service with this video. Unfortunately many of us experienced this just problem just after the warranty had expired, as happened to my wife. Verizon and LG surely knew that the phone was defective but held to the letter of the warranty instead of replacing or at least offering a partial credit toward another phone. It was a rather expensive phone and one would expect that these big companies would be more accomodating. Since I had bought a pair of them and both burned up it was particularly painful loss.The shame of it is that the phone was otherwise great in so many ways. I will never risk buying a high end phone again. With so many feature packed budget phones available nowadays, why take the risk?

    I bought my phone December 2015, and this just now happened to me over the weekend. This is the first phone I paid for myself and it's quite a bit of cash if you don't have just boatloads of money laying around. I use this for work and I don't have a landline so it's my only communication. I'm beyond upset about this. Going to the Verizon store tonight to get it taken care of hopefully asap. :( Thanks for the demo video, at least helps me confirm this is my issue and I can verify it's actually a real issue and I'm not just a dumb dumb who needs Tech Support to tell me to do stuff I've already tried over and over! I also purchased a spare battery to see if the battery was the issue and it is not. Same result. Best of luck to all the G4 owners out there...

      I bought my V10 on October of 2015. It experienced the bootloop a year later. Then my replacement experienced it four months after.

    • @Denetsu
      @Denetsu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ECDT1089 That's awful. I'm glad I switched to a different phone at the Verizon store. Sending my LG for the replacement/repair, but going to trade it in to Verizon for a trade-in credit rather than keep it. This is absolutely ridiculous, I feel for ya. I don't trust LG products anymore.

    Happened to me and I'm devastated, had a lot of photos I didn't back up, LG needs to step up and address this issue before it hurts their brand even more.

      +HyperSole My LG G3 keeps restarting, and wont stop. LG wanted me to send my battery to them to get it replaced, but I'd be without a phone for two weeks (TWO WEEKS!!!). Verizon wont honor their "warranty system".

    • @Illmatic662
      @Illmatic662 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +HyperSole This happened to me at the end on January. I had to end up selling it on eBay for parts because my Warranty wouldn't cover it as it was factory unlocked and not bought in the US, that was really tough to swallow, but what can you do. If I buy the LG G5 I'll definitely be buying one that's locked to a US Carrier because I can't risk this again.

  • @SquirralDude
    @SquirralDude 8 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    My G4 just randomly restarted and got stuck at the LG screen. It doesn't loop (keep rebooting) like others do, but it is just stuck on the Life's Good screen without turning off like this issue. Is this probably the same issue?

    • @mrjunior41
      @mrjunior41 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take it apart, turn on your oven at 400 F let the oven reach the temp of 400 F put the motherboard with the CPU side facing upward , that's mean the sim card part will be facing down , for 5~7 MIN on a wooden block take it out the oven let it cool down in the same position put it all together back and BOOM. the issue is about the CPU getting to hot and the soldering gets loose , back up your data and bring the phone to a repair shop and tell hem to fix the soldering work on the CPU for a permanent repair
      Sorry for my English!

    • @mrjunior41
      @mrjunior41 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Donald Joy this is a quick fix to back up your data. after this your phone will continue to work but when you use the phone camera or what ever that makes the phone get hot it will go back in the bootloop until it cools down. it will be normal again.

      sent it into LG. thank god i'm smart and i hold on to my previous phone (LG G2) so that i can just active that phone while this phone gets replaced or w/e the fuck they're doing with it or i'd be 1. phoneless for a week or 2 and 2. my job would suffer horrendously with customers trying to call me. never again will you see me buy an LG phone for the amount of shit i've gone through with this bug that they should be recalling these things. They shouldnt put out a public announcement and then whoever runs into the problem WAIT to replace it until then. there should be a flat out RECALL forcing everyone who bought this shit batch of the phone to back up their phone and send it in for replacement.

    • @BrayZap
      @BrayZap 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Levy Koute just like cars etc, there should be a RECALL on these things when they find out something this fucking major to the point where the phone is completely un-useable occurs.

    my daughter had this happen when she was listening to music. It was stuck on the loop. We tried everything to try to fix it. We turned off the phone and let it sit over night. I tried to turn it on the next morning and it stayed in the loop. I started watching your video and did everything you did. I left the back off and it ended up working again. God knows how long it will last but a replacement phone is definitely in the future. Even if people do not have insurance LG needs to step up and give new phones to customers.

    I need to know if there is some sort of tool I can buy to recover my data. I have thousands of dollars worth of information on my LGG4 I could care less about the phone I just want my data. I used to be into rooting but I never touched this phone. LG said they would exchange my phone but I don't want another phone I want my data. Please help.

    • @gabriel713281
      @gabriel713281 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Crosscrunchy10 there's gotta be something just for data recovery could I remove the internal hard drive and put it in a working G4?? I have no clue I farfetched this idea is in just taking shots ink the dark because I have until may to return this office under warranty...

    • @Crosscrunchy10
      @Crosscrunchy10  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +gabriel713281 The flash chips are integrated into the motherboard of the phone. There isn't a hard drive to remove. Honestly the odds of recovering your data are incredibly low, even if you were willing to shell out. LG would have to de-solder the flash chips and use a bga reflow station to connect them to a new motherboard, which still may not even work. One rumor is that the flash chips themselves are the issue, which would render and recovery efforts null

    I know a lot of people are really frustrated and angry, but after reading all the comments to me, this is now pretty funny. Its is almost like a world phenomena. LG connected us all. LG Loop connecting people.

    • @Dejitsu
      @Dejitsu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +trudeaup I've been dealing with this at varied times since I got the phone a few months back. It did it a couple times, I assumed it was a fluke, or maybe just an app issue. Factory reset, seemed to fix it. Then, about three weeks ago, came back with a vengeance, and a reset did nothing at that point. It took almost 3 weeks just to get a response from LG, whom I'd contacted via a friend at T-Mobile. It's bad when a rep from a brand carrier has to chase someone around to get a faulty phone replaced. Fortunately, they're sending me a new one, so hopefully this issue will be fixed soon, because my current device is pretty much unusable. If I can manage to get it to stay on, after about 20 tries and a dozen battery pulls, it'll just crash at the first sign of normal use. It's ridiculous. Mine restarts close to 100 times a day.

  • @Leninskitchen
    @Leninskitchen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was able to retrieve my pictures and videos after several attempts to leave both the battery and the phone in the fridge (separately). I would recommend using a freezer, which I don't have atm.
      First 3 tries, I left them about 1 hour in the fridge and attempted to connect it to my computer but it bootlooped just after a couple of seconds. Last try, I left them 4 hours in the fridge and was able to get all my pictures with my USB cable.

    I've literally had this phone for less than a week and it's just happened to me. I got it second hand as that was the only way I could afford it so it's not brand new but I didn't expect anything like this to happen. Luckily, because I've had it for such a short amount of time, there's nothing very valuable like photos on the phone. It's just a massive annoyance. I don't know whether to get an exchange or just a full blown refund.
    I saw that there's a solution in the description but honestly I have no idea what I'm doing in regards to that.
    Luckily I didn't sell my old phone so I can use that until I work out what to do...

    Contacted Verizon about it, they replacing with a refurb phone. Had to pay overnight shipping since I have important accounts linked on my phone. HOPEFULLY, I would get one that has the Serial number 602 and up rather than the 505-509 mobo.

    Guess what, my son's LG G5 (T Mobile) is now showing signs of this! It will go back and forth from the LG screen to the T Mobile screen for an hour. Then if it does start, it gets hot when you finally start working with it. It will freeze as well. We have had no problems on the our phones though.

    Thank you for posting this video. I bought my LG G4 in June of 2015 and paid full price for it since I didn't want to loose my unlimited data. The phone died on February 18, 2016. The LG screen just kept flashing. Verizon sent me a refurbished phone a few days later. It's now April of 2016 and the refurbished phone is still working, but I'm worried this one will crap out too. I've had the "Android System has stopped" notice a few times on this refurbished phone and I'm hoping this one doesn't die too.

    It's just happened to mine!!! I had the G3 which I gave a friend and he tells me his G3 blacked out too! Now my G4 is rebooting endlessly, refusing to start. I've been an LG fan for many years now. I'm very disappointed. I'm in Uganda, bought the phone from Amazon USA, factory unlocked. Hoping for a miracle as as can't I can't ship the phone back. I bought it in July 2015

    Just experienced this exact issue with my LG G4, which my wife bought for my birthday in September 2015. So my phone is most likely part of the "bad motherboard" batch that was manufactured prior to September 2015. One way I am able to get the phone to boot through and get into the OS is to hold the VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons all at the same time for 10+ seconds. You'll see the boot screen with the LG logo blink once and then it will go dark for a few seconds. It will then bring up a IMIE Display screen with a bar code of sorts on a white white background. It instructs you to press the power key again to restart the phone. Once you press the power button, the phone restarts and boots up...HOWEVER, it only lasts for approximately two minutes.
    One thing I noticed just an hour or so before my phone went into the boot loop was that the phone was hot to the touch...which by all accounts is a faulty motherboard.
    LG needs to recall all G4s manufactured before September 2015 and fix this problem.
    Thank you CrossCrunchy10 for posting this video.

    My advice to everyone who bought this phone before September is to replace their phone with LG (even though you have not encountered this problem yet). This happened to me yesterday while I was en route to Las Vegas. The phone was playing music via Bluetooth when it froze for a second and then restarted. It did not boot up thereafter. After some initial research, this issues seems to persist with random G4's manufactured between 04/15 - 09/15. In my opinion, failure rates will only escalate as phones made during that period age and encounter more wear and tear. So, if you are able to replace the phone I'd high suggest you do so. More importantly, if your phone falls under the aforementioned production dates please make sure you BACKUP everything on your phone because the phone is completely unusable after you encounter this.
    Some sources have indicated that this occurs due to a board failure. My G4 serial no started with 506 (5 - year 2015 , 06 - June. Most phone reported have had serial numbers starting at 505 (May), and 506 (June). An hour ago, I shipped my phone out. It's a great phone and really, I have had no complaints with it other than the average battery life. I'm hoping to have better luck on the second phone.

Second one died about a week and a half ago, and it completely stopped powering on (couldn't even get into recovery). That one was a 507. I was a little disappointed to find out this new one is also a 507. Hopefully it doesn't have any issues until it's paid off and I can upgrade, or until I have the money for an Axon 7. *fingers crossed*

    I was able to keep my LG G4 (Model: LS991) running long enough by cooling it off, instead of applying heat like I had read several other places. I put the phone inside a regular sandwich bag sized ziplock bag. I put that bag inside a large ziplock freezer bag filled with ice and that allowed my phone to boot up long enough to transfer all the data off with a USB cable.
    I think some people are confusing multiple issues with similar symptoms. For the LS991 boot loop, if the device seems to be running unreasonably hot, if it'll occasionally boot up for brief periods of time after sitting idle, it's a HEATING issue and cooling it off may allow you to run it long enough to get your data off the flash memory. I hope this helps someone else. I'm going to post this elsewhere too.

    Is it based on useage? Do you play games that run in the background or are otherwise running continuously. Do you play for extended periods while plugged in. Basically, Is this heat related damage?
    My phone is potentially affected. My usage has been cautious as I've noticed phones like mine run under the conditions I listed above tend to get really hot.

    I went through 3 LG G4's in 14 months, and all had the boot loop issue. With the first one, the keyboard was as laggy as hell from the start. I only resolved that by going in to developer mode, and after 6 months, the boot loop struck. The first replacement was defective from the start, the second replacement overheated significantly under normal day to day use after a couple of months and then boot looped. I really wanted to love this phone, but now I can't ever see myself ever getting another LG smartphone.

    I purchased the Lg G4 Verizon version in June of 2015. Today (March 21, 2016) my phone began the reboot loop. Initially, it froze when I went to send a text. As I began to take off the backing (to remove the battery) the phone had already begun rebooting itself. Then the screen went black and nothing happened. I could not do anything to get the screen to show anything. I pulled the battery and it began to boot up again. However, it did not go to the verizon screen, it just went black.

    Did you got a replacement? Could you tell me to who I must address to have a replacement too? because I call to LG-UK, LG-USA and they said they can't do anything about it, and they told me because the phone was made in Singapore (they checked out the IMEI to know where the phone was made) and in LG Singapore they told me I must paid about US$250. I don't want to pay that! I want LG to acknowledge the issue and offer a replacement at least.

    yupe if warranty expired try using a heat gun and focus heat on the NAND chip on the motherboard. This will re-solder the chip back into place. Your phone got too hot and the flawed soldering on the LG G4 made in between a certain period is causing the boot loop issue.

      It is mostly known to affect the devices manufactured before September 2015 but still doesn't affect everybody. If it happened to everybody then LG wouldn't sell the device anymore. Mine has just done it but it worked perfectly for 8 months. It is a brilliant phone in all other aspects but if you do choose a G4 make sure you have automatic backup set up for your photos/contacts etc. You should do this anyway on any phone.

    This is EXACTLY what happened to my phone last night and today! I mean EXACTLY! Got mine in June of 2015 also. I finally was able to do a factory data rest after hours of trying, but only lasted about 15 min and back to the boot loop deal!!!

    I'm facing this same problem now. Could you let me know the mail ID of LG tech support. I'm unable to find it. thanks.

    my at&t version did that too but the first thing it did was vibrate full force and not stop and system locked up, then when I restarted did this one time, then actually booted the whole way up and I thought it was just a fluke until I plugged it in and it rebooted again. tried my freshly charged battery and it got to the at&t logo then the screen garbled and it rebooted and then just keep doing this until I pulled the battery again and now it does nothing. replacement will be here on Wednesday, debating on just selling it, considering LG isn't even acknowledging the issue there's no guarantee even new models have it fixed
