Thank you for your courage Eman! I pray for peace in Gaza. One world. One Creator. One human race. One love. Your photos are beautiful! May everyone open their eyes.
I hate religion and its antiquated views on gender, sexuality, and what it calls morality. I hate how it promotes ignorance and uses fear to keep people from questioning, leaving, or speaking out against it. It's good to see people like this take a stand against archaic oppression, and I admire her bravery.
Instead of listening to her story, what you guys did are commenting about her outfit? Wearing veil/head scarf/hijab are symbols of oppression? so how about the nuns? double standard and total discrimination
Keep up your good work Eman Mohammed! I believe in you and you are so needed! The times in history when the male gaze is the only one surviving, is one-sided and shows us only half of what could have been a complete picture. Half of our past and our world is obscured.
You're a strong, beautiful woman who photographs stunning pictures! You showed me a lot of things I didn't even know still eisted. I would love to see more of your work and have a lot of respect for your courage and talent! Keep doing what you are doing and you will show lots of people how it is to be a woman in the Gaza Strip. I can imagine it's hard to see a country going down like that.
she is a very brave and strong person, going in to war zones and it was nice to hear her report on the other side of war as the news today seems to try to draw in viewers by shocking its audience.
She does something so normal, even simple for us. But in her world, which supposed to be our world too, she is brave, a fighter; she is struggling to show us, the so called normal people with simple lifes and "difficult" problems, the reality behind the headscarf. RESPECT!
Looking at some of the comments and their blatant Islamophobia makes me so sad. This woman is very brave and I enjoyed her talk a lot. Thank you for featuring her!
i dont know eman if you are ever going to read this but if you do i thank you , im struggling to do something hard and i opened my you tube channel and this video was there and in the point so you are a gift from god to me
Headscarves are not oppressive. They are liberating you from objectification and are actually a symbol of female empowerment and self respect. This woman is a beautiful, smart, successful woman. Wearing a headscarf does not change that. If you believe that women should be allowed to show off their bodies without being shamed for it then you should also believe that women have the right to cover up.
A world problem, despite hunger and low poverty, wars destroy homes, cities, countries, whatever lies ahead, it wipes out families, characters, and leaves many sequels. Women suffer the most in these countries, in war women are nothing. Having this faith, persistence, and willingness to help is one of the rarest things. An example of overcoming is the woman Salma Hayek, who despite all the problems today is a symbol of feminine strength. These people are born already in a conflict environment, honestly no one should go through this, early children already have access to guns. But Salma Hayek didn't stop fighting. Despite everything she was very warrior and strong, withstood all the consequences she faced and today is an example for other women.
Eman, I admire your inner strength and courage to persevere, the part of your male colleagues leaving you at the location shows just how fragile the male ego can be in front of a woman who is passionate in living what she believes, you had every right to feel hurt being abandon, left in those circumstances, three men all patting each other on the back, not one showing discernment to say NO! this is not right. three blind mice. I can assure you we, people as myself, do not agree with Israel / Palestine Conflict, truce or not, there are no winners in war! this is my position across the board. I have always believed everyone has a right to exist as an equal, in the sixties and seventy's I supported, marched in protest in behalf of all Men and Women for there equal rights. what's interesting now that I'm in my late Fifty's I'm looked upon as the generation who was against them, I have no coat or pin to wear that says hey I'm on your side, the only thing I have is many experiences and my age, as you become older, please always remember to use the gift of discernment.. I may not answer any replies, the Internet comment section is filled with trolls who take one thing someone says out of context and tries to run with it, that's inner personal conflict, in that case people pay a lot of money per hour for that kind of help, If your going to be stinky, I don't owe you any response I'll ignore you or mute the topic. I've already expressed what I want to say ☮ tony
Already live and.... Will someday be killed by Israel? It is the same as going to northern Iraq where there are some villages there that are lived in but someday ISIS will come and kill all the villagers.
Yeah but too tight no? I don't know, I cannot get over it. Covering your head with hijab to show modesty, yet wearing a tight dress to reveal your curves (she has a nice figure btw)... also lovely presentation.
The story she tells, particularly the story where 3 men drove her into the place to be bombed and then left is the story of a human shield. And how did those men know it would be bombed? Only because they knew that rockets were just launched from this place on Israeli town, and this is exactly the places Israel bombs. In other words, her story shows that the accusations against Hamas about its use of human shields is true, and the story about Israel targeting not mosques or schools or residences, but places rockets are fired from (as well as ammunition storage and other military installations) is also true.
Amir Keyrain Right. Fatah works for Mossad, and Hamas works for Mossad, and Islamic Jihad also works for Mossad. Perhaps the Moon, Mars and Venus also work for Mossad. (sarcasm) No, it's just Palestinians being Palestinians. Google and read "Palestinians and the Death Boats Scandal" by Khaled Abu Toameh.
Amir Keyrain You stopped reading when something contradicted your "viewpoint." You're too scared to read "Palestinians and the Death Boats Scandal", because it might kill your "sacred cows."
Wow...what a concconclusion. .do you read statistics... do you watch TV...haven't you seen the difference in casualties "civilians" between Palestinians and the Israeli occupation?! You only need to have some sense and be as fair as it needs...and the truth would be clearly visible!
From what I've seen, rich or even just financially stable Muslim women are way different than poor Muslim women. Have you ever seen this to be true? 30-60% of women in mostly Muslim countries live in poverty. Maybe you and your colleagues are the rich 2/3 with computer access and financially stable families? Poverty is terrible, but it sometimes is devastating for women when they and their community members are not accustomed to women taking responsibility for their own well being.
Ruurdtje Spijkerman But culture and religion decides if they will be abused, abducted, sold, raped, or able to easily get reasonable work when they are poor. I've seen plenty of happy poor people, and plenty of suicidal, isolated impoverished women. Not to mention female infanticide.
A beautiful soul. I hope she doesn't read the comments on yt. They are not made by real people. First world feminism should hang its head in shame. Is Emma Watson talking about this kind of thing?
I don't mind the headscarf as such, I mean, she's free to do what she wants... but it was grinding against the microphone, making this grating sound that kinda ruined the video for me. This is not the first time something like this has happened to a speaker's mic. As far as I remember, there was one instance not long ago, and that was not because of a headscarf. TED should just make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen. Great images, though. Well, as "great" as such sad images can be. :(
The gener inequality is something very hard of handle, but the women are more and more strive for equality. For them to achieve their rights don't just depend on them, but also men. The fight against that inequality is related with human rights. Because they are despised, and they can't enter any employer. Women should work where you want be in an office or in a mechanic.
The absolute bullshit Women have to face in these areas is sickening. I hope she becomes everything she ever hoped and dreamed about and one day meets those cowards that call themselves men and puts them to shame with her success as they look up to her as there new boss. I mean really who leaves a woman (or anybody for that matter) in a situation like that while they laugh and drive away?? Really? what part of any of that is being a man?
You cannot change the world with hateful and ignorant comments other than to make it more hateful and ignorant. We should all be tired of the hate and stand up for basic human rights. sometimes I think we put too much emphasis on exterior and lose what it means to be human and have empathy.
So she has more courage than a Navy Seal? Or a President? Or a doctor? Remember that wherever she goes, people had already been living there... Why don't I hear you say the residents are heroes? They were there during the shellings, she came afterwards. She's brave, yes. But don't make her out to be the epitome of courage. She has a lot to go before she ever gets there...
"Because of my gender, I had access to worlds where my collegues were forbidden..." so, if not for the shunning of male photographers by women in Gaza she would never have gotten her story and would not have had the opportunity to go on TED and complain about male photographers.
I really like the photos, but the discrimination part is completely nonsense for me. However, I do understand Eman and I do not blame you. I do understand that this is the only way they would allow you to do a TED talk! Give them what they want to hear! Enhance their close-minded image of the Middle East. Oh how much I pity Americans.
she is not a "Muslim", she's a hypocrite. I stopped the video as soon I saw the way she dressed. she wears headscarf and tight dress. I hate those people.
This is complete lie ... I really hate it when people like this lady reflects a complete negative situation in order to get attention and support for personal gains ... Her statement s are really incorrect and contradicting . Women's situation way better than what she mentioned .
She's telling what she's been through as a female photographer to raise awareness and make people understand the struggle and stop discriminating women because of their gender
Thank you for your courage Eman! I pray for peace in Gaza. One world. One Creator. One human race. One love. Your photos are beautiful! May everyone open their eyes.

I hate how it promotes ignorance and uses fear to keep people from questioning, leaving, or speaking out against it. It's good to see people like this take a stand against archaic oppression, and I admire her bravery.
courage is not just a word to be thrown around on the sports field. But courage is a trait this woman has.

*Beautiful photos and amazing story.*
_Thanks for sharing!_
Beautiful story and very inspiring! How brave is this lady! wow!
And as always the comment section is nothing but a cesspit of people with strong opinions, who actually have no idea what they are talking about.
she is a very brave and strong person, going in to war zones and it was nice to hear her report on the other side of war as the news today seems to try to draw in viewers by shocking its audience.
Peetwee37 the hole city was a war zone

What a beautiful intelligent lady. Very refreshing.
Great presentation.
What a strong woman! Such a great video
I refuse to let the last comment on this video be a negative one, that takes away from the topic, yet offers Nothing!

Thank you for sharing your story Eman! And for being a strong woman :)
Not wearing a veil would have truly made her point much stronger.
Beautiful pictures. She is truly talented.

Great Eman... Congratulations....
Very nice photos!
she has a good work.
Visiting a place that people already live and calling yourself brave is what assholes do.
Good observation!
Already live and.... Will someday be killed by Israel? It is the same as going to northern Iraq where there are some villages there that are lived in but someday ISIS will come and kill all the villagers.
Eman, I really like your choice of clothes--a very nice ensemble! Your photography is well-done also. Good luck with your career.
Yeah but too tight no? I don't know, I cannot get over it. Covering your head with hijab to show modesty, yet wearing a tight dress to reveal your curves (she has a nice figure btw)... also lovely presentation.

She's beautiful
My colleagues in Faculty of medicine are 50% palastenien men & women ! I've never heard any of them mentioning anything about gender stigmas !
From what I've seen, rich or even just financially stable Muslim women are way different than poor Muslim women. Are you living under a rock. Never seen the proof of oppression of women all over the world? Never seen that were is money there is less oppression?
Ruurdtje Spijkerman But culture and religion decides if they will be abused, abducted, sold, raped, or able to easily get reasonable work when they are poor. I've seen plenty of happy poor people, and plenty of suicidal, isolated impoverished women. Not to mention female infanticide.
