  • @APKyle

    Excellent cover, Steve! Aside from the technique being accurate in all of your Gojira covers, the tone and sound has always been spot on. What amp/pedals, or plugins, do you use to produce to sound like them good ole French boys?

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      On the guitars for this one I used the TSE 808, NC-8505, NadIR loader with True North Audio impulses. Then there's some other plugins like a multipressor, SSL channel strip, JST side widener and Logic's stocked reverb and delay plugins. The bass I'm running through BIAS with a preset called 6505 "Plus" by K9 Customs and then also the same run through the Ignite Amp Emissary for some mid/high crunch.

    • @GeirOlafs1
      @GeirOlafs1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since nobody is answering you.
      I believe he is using his middle finger.
      Using the middle finger has its pros, it is often stronger and also you can hold the pick between your thumb and index finger while you are tapping, makes the transition to the picking easy and fast.
      The index finger is not a bad choice, I define it easier to control the tapping that way, but then you have to practice tucking the pick with your thumb.
      Try out both, see what you feel better. You got this bb

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I missed this one, my bad! Yes that's right. I'm using my middle finger for tapping and then index and thumb for the pick. Means I can switch back and forth between picking and tapping reasonably smoothly.
      I know some do the opposite and hold the pick with middle and thumb then tap with index too though and it works for them

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can slightly lift your finger up on the fretting hand when moving up and down the neck it will help stop some of the noise. You want to lift it just enough so it's not touching the strings ideally.

    Any tips on improving tapping? I can play it but my tapping is so sloppy.

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To get the notes to ring out I tap and slightly flick the string towards the ground to getting it vibrating more. Don't push it too much as you'll get a wonky tapped note. To stop the other strings ringing I use the palm of the picking hand and the edges of my fingers on the fretting hand to mute them.
      I'd check out some of Guthrie Govan's videos - he doesn't do the flick and just slams down hard as he doesn't like the slightly bendy sound you get from flicking. Also Dr Viossy has recently put out a couple of videos about his approach to learning some advance tapping lines.

    im pretty new to using any delay, what would be your settings for a good delay that's not too overdone?

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say setting the feedback so you get 2 or 3 repeats and the mix so the first repeat is about is about half the volume of the initial note.
      Timings of repeats is kind of down to the speed of the song. 1/4 note repeat or 1/8 note repeats are common but the best thing to do is play around and see what you like really! If the delay has a tap tempo you can set the delay speed with that and experiment

    How do you count out that intro riff. An what is the time Signature?

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The intro is all in 4/4. Possibly the easiest place to count in the intro is when it goes to 8 7 8 7... as the first part of the riff is always the same
      So the first time it plays 8 7 8 7 for 6 beats, the second for 10 beats, then 6 beats, then a variation that goes to 8 5 for 6 beats
      Then 6 beats, 10 beats, 6 beats, and finally 14 beats
      On the tab one set of 8 7 8 7 would count as one beat

    the transition from tapping to chugging is tough....any tips? just be fast?...also as I play along with it I noticed once I hit the chugging section my guitar is too loud...or too soft in the tapping...do you use compression?...thx for tabs!!!

    • @ShadowMantraSteve
      @ShadowMantraSteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just a case of practising. I use my middle finger for tapping so the pick is ready between my index and thumb. A metronome should help you bring up the speed gradually too.
      The sound on this is mixed so the volumes are a bit more even. I would consider using a compressor if I was doing this live though. With the tapping I very slightly bend the string (less than a 1/4 note) as I tap with the right hand so it has a bit more tension and pings back. But you have to not bend it to much as it will sound a bit wonky. I know there are some who just slam the string really hard without having to flick it but I've never had it work that well for me.
