1:48 what an absolutely disgustingly heavy riff man, instant stank face. Tricked my ears when I first heard it years ago, and I was honestly amazed when I found out this song was only in D standard.
Hey man, can I just say that your videos are literally perfect? Like, nothing is missing from them that anyone could even hope for. I know that, since it's basically free for viewers, you're not held to any specific set of requirements and nobody has any "right" to demand that you do everything possible, but it's immensely refreshing to see someone put something out into the world which isn't itself about as much work for me to figure out and correct as it would've been for me to just do it on my own from the start. I really appreciate this
More than welcome! I enjoy doing them and in turn creating a resource of tab videos for people to learn from. It's great practise for me too so everyone wins 🤘
@@ShadowMantraSteve Thats true ! Everybody wins ! I always hate learn songs from Songster or ultimate guitar.. its not The same thing when i watch your video on My tv and play guitar. Thanks !
Picked up playing guitar just a hair over 6 months ago, and having spent most of that on a classical I’m pretty proud to say I’ve now learned this whole thing, I’m certainly not great at it (that main triplet-barre-triplet riff is brutal for me) but that’s a pretty damn good feeling!
Signal chain for those interested, it's all in the box. The left and right guitar, DI guitar -> TSE 808 -> Noise Gate -> Le456 amp sim on low gain channel -> LeCab2 with a combination of a 57 impulse from GodsCab and a Diezel impulse from Ownhammer -> a small touch of 1/8 note delay Centre guitar -> same as above but high gain channel Guitar buss -> a multipressor to keep the palm mutes in check -> EQ to clean up -> SSL channel strip mainly for air -> a tiny amount of reverb
one of the songs where i know all the riffs and have known them for years, but never bothered putting in half an hour to stitch it all together. thanks a lot for the video, helps a lot just to know where you are and what comes next! also really tight playing!
After seeing how the meters in the intro work, I never heard any time changes before due to the 9 and 7 pattern, because unusual subdivisions are a usual Gojira thing.
Epic mate do you satisfied with 11-48 ? on Standard D? i dont like thick gauges so i want to play in D standard w 11-49 or 11-52 sometimes C#... thanks for anwser mate
I've found 11-48 good - been using power slinkies for some time. I'm currently trying out some string source 11-54 and finding the top strings can be pretty hard for bending but the low strings are good. I wouldn't go anything heavier than 11 on top for D standard personally.
It always seems a little bit confusing to me on how to do the pick scrape riffs. Are you doing some natural harmonics or why you move the fret hand during that part?
It's a mix of things. The picking hand is playing pinch harmonics. The fretting hand isn't pressing down so you get a mix of natural harmonics and also string noise as you move your hand.
@@ShadowMantraSteve thank you very much for this video! This gonna help me a lot on doing those sounds on the guitar. Best explanation for that here on TH-cam. Cheers mate!
Use a metronome to build speed up gradually. If you're struggling at a certain speed slow it down a bit and take a break after some practise. I find over several days my muscle memory starts kicking in and the speed gradually picks up.
No joke, I will literally pay someone if they can explain how this was done. How do u get the track without the rhythm guitar so u can play the parts? Is this a computer program like pro logic or something? I’m locked up in an apartment with a bunch of guitars and nothing to do. Please, will someone please tell me what I need to acquire to do this with other songs? I’m so desperate to learn or understand that I’ll literally pay someone to explain how people do this. I see countless videos of guys playing along to their favorite jams.... HOW? Please, please someone explain it to me? I will be forever grateful
Hi, here's a brief explanation. The way I do it is find a guitar pro file that has drums included then export only the drums as a midi file. I then import it to logic and use the Steven Slate drums plugin for the drum sounds. The bass is then recorded DI, but it can also be done as a midi track like the bass. The guitars are also DI. I use amp sim plugins and impulse loaders for tones on both the bass and the guitars.
A small update, at 1:46 bar 53 I think should be gallops on 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3 rather than 3, 2, 3, 0, 3, 2, 3, 0
2:48 this is a riff from where you can hear the lyrics without lyrics
exactly!

Surprised me too when I first found them and a lot of their stuff was in D
This album was just something else

@Gulphard Yeah I can tell that Steve really mastered these songs watching him do it at 75% playback speed to learn them.
The heaviest cover of the universe!!! Well done bro!

Awesome! It is a tricky one for sure but great that you've kept at it 🤘
Sounds amazing, one of my favorite tracks from Gojira
Cheers 🤘 one of mine too

Thank you 🤘
D standard is one of my favorite tunings now thanks to this band
I definitely tend to sit in either D or drop C because of them
Bro same here.
I prefer C# standard but Gojira definitely makes D standard sound heavy af 🤘
@@ambrooks5 There's been many times I've been convinced they were waayy lower than they actually were.
The opening riff to Explosia? Brooo 😩😩
@@swiftuav3617 Seriously! When I found out they pretty much play in D standard I was like no effing way lol
Such a brutal riff
That was so heavy I'm amazed you were able to hold your guitar lol Awesome cover absolutely spot on, no other band rocks like Gojira
Thanks, it's a fun one to play 🤘
Jesus Christ no matter how many times I try to learn this song I always stumble on the intro and main riff.
This song sounds so much heavier than it really is being only in D standard tuning they made a great job with inverting power chords and its effective
Love how those “drop D” chords are played in standard. Sounds gnarly
Inverted power chords sound great!
@@ShadowMantraSteve Absolutely! Perfect for metal 🤘
put at 0.75 speed you have a super grovey riff
This song is so great, awesome performance!

Thanks, D standard
Dude your playing is perfect. I love this band and thank you for making my jamming so much easier!! Keep Rocking….

Hey man can you do the same for Flying Whales And The Gift Of Guilt . Please it's a request
Always going to be a fun one to play.
Only surpassed by being in the mosh pit live at the show
My favorite Gojira song to play.
Beautiful
Thank you 🤘
This vid was super helpful for learning the song, I just uploaded my own cover. Thanks dude! Great stuff
You're welcome 🤘

You're welcome! 🤘
Your channel has the Best covers I've ever heard

Awesome but ya gotta nail the harmonic scrap instead of the slide
Such a baddass song
Nailed those scrapes man shit!
Thanks 🤘
i jammed along!
I wish i could play it as easily as this man.
Outstanding. I was mesmerized the entire time.
Thanks 🤘

Little late to the party but thanks so much! This one's a banger for sure!! 🔥🔥
That riff at 1.50 goes hard!!
Awesome cover man.
Love it. 😍😍

Cool!:) Great playing. What is that pad under strings by the nut?
It's just a small bit of cloth folded up to stop the strings ringing.
nice ,can you play superterrorizer by black label society,or stillborn would be a good vid.
tidy playing though
Love this song, nice job! Keep it up!
Thanks 🤘
Yo, it's the Doomslayer himself!
Hey brother I know I’m late, just curious what computer you use for tones and plug ins? I see the Mac but what model? Been looking for one
It's a pretty old one now, it's a mid 2010 27 inch model specced up a bit with more ram and a better processor. It's showing it's age though.
What guitar is this? Looks exactly like my Ibanez but except the diamonds on the fretboards. The 12th fret is the exact same symbol.

Came here just to see that guy shred…
Took me a second to see, but I'm wearing that exact same Black Label Society t-shirt right now 0_0
Are those inf3 or inf4 pickups ?
I believe they are the Ibanez LoZ1 active set from around 2008
Black label- Lamb of god

Great cover, man. I don't feel entirely convinced that those half step bends at the end of Tapping 2 should be there but everything else is great.
