Me too dude, me too. I remember getting my original 360 together with the Limited Edition of Gears of War and played it the first few weeks on a tiny crt TV before my first HD TV arrived. Regardless of this I was blown away
And they didn't wanna show off campaign at E3..... lol What a rollercoaster of doubt its been by some gamers and the freakin' game media,but it turned out so damn good in the end!
gears 5 is a title that highlights that the original xbox isn't quite so underpowered while it absolutely shines on the X. Great optimization on the PC as well. This is how games should be developed. I'm really impressed with what Microsoft has been doing on PC in few years
gpu wise yes. CPU wise it's basically the same thing with the ps4. they tried to compensate this with the Esram, but apart from first party titles nobody really bothered to take advantage of it hence the lower resolution and performance. this was caused by the fact that the ps5 was easier to code for and in most cases it became the leading development platform. The problem is that xbox had very few exclusives to make the console shine. Same thing happened with ps3 last gen when they decided to split the memory in 2 blocks of 256 mb xdr dram and one gdddr3. the 360 had only a gddr3 module of 512 and that ESram that continued on the one. But PS3 had good exclusives, late gen games looked way better than what the xbox could ever do. multiplatform games, not so much. I still stand with my opinion, it's just a shame that xbox didn't quite really shined this gen
I don't care about the original xbox one or one S I waited till 2019...I got the gears of war 5 xbox one X edition (the special edition) and it's nice Next gen = around the corner but I can wait for a year or 2 (2021 2022) let the kinks work out. Either way exciting time it is
I have a crazy PC and I must say, this game looks Freaking Incredible on the Xbox One X with a nice Real HDR set. Honestly Coalition, well done 👏👏👏 Btw, thank you for Play Anywhere; cloud sync'd saves and cross PC and Xbox multiplayer. Also, I haven't beat it yet, but damm is it gooood. Gameplay is awesome and the story too. I can't wait to see what happens!

The first Gears of War blew my mind as to what consoles could do graphically, and Gears 5 still continues that tradition 13 years later. What a beautiful game!
It blew me away when I turned resolution to 8K on PC. The framerate gets locked 60fps. And the game doesn't even support SLI. With this level of optimisation, I am sure MS can deliver native 8K titles on the next gen console.
@@wordsshackles441 If you were on the base Xbox One I could understand you saying that when you put it up against the Xbox One version of Gears 3. Playing on the Xbox One X and now the Series X on a nice TV at native resolution really shows how well optimized this game is.
You got to love the twilight years of a console gen. Last 3 years of the still current- gen produce some of the best looking games yet AND we have the 1 year cross gen year when games on last-gen consoles start looking somewhat visually compromised if they would've been made just for those consoles, but somewhat more expansive and ambitious given they need to be a showcase for new consoles as well. For 6th gen, games on PS2/GameCube/Xbox were really something to behold between 2004-2006 compared to early gen years. Examples: Thief Deadly Shadows, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Half-life 2, Doom 3, Riddick, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Tomb Raider Legend, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, God of War 2, Metroid Prime 2/3, Rogue Squadron (or whatever it was called, the trilogy of Star Wars games available on Gamecube), Resident Evil 4. 7th gen: Gears of War 3, God of War 3, Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City, Witcher 2, Far Cry 3-4, Assassin's Creed 3-4, Bioshock Infinite, Metro Last Light, DMC, Tomb Raider 2013/Rise, NFS Hot Pursuit/Run/MW2012/Rivals, Crysis 2/3, Resident Evil 6, Max Payne 3, GTA V, Battlefield 3/4. Yea especially since NOT every generation gets an entirely NEW game engine, this next 9th gen will have 2 new game engines entirely built from ground up 2020 and beyond. Which means (as you said) - after a few years...by the mid-way point for the 9th gen (when games that are being created/started NOW in early development) IE like Elder Scrolls VI (which as much as Bethesda gets alot of hate/visceral as of late) well they are outsourcing its development (part Bethesda in-house dev + Obsidian games with Chris Avellone you know the guy from Fallout: new Vegas lead designer, and Wasteland 2, and Divinity: Original Sin 2, as well as early 2000s CRPG titles like Planescape: Torment, and Neverwinter Night, as well as Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn) he was also a lead designer during the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind era. So a great developer + new game engine + entirely new gen
The monetization is still a scam. People are too dumb to realize just how bad it is because the model obfuscates its predatory methods. Monetization should never be included in full priced games. Ever.
I always thought the eyes looked very lifelike in this game. That's one thing a lot of studios screw up on. The face looks very detailed but yet sometimes the character has dead eyes. Idk what it is but the eyes in this game actually show character and emotion
I'm utterly disappointed with MS and Xbox. It's so bad, they now disgust me. Non stop hype with nothing to show for it. Gears 5 is the ONLY redeeming game of the whole generation and it's only due to the hard work on the part of the Coalition....not MS. Halo, and every other game is pretty much garbage or a better experience on PC. If you want a variety of exclusives, go to Sony. Sad part is, WHY did it take so long to clean up the game engine for Gears and WHY do other devs not get it? READ this as HALO infinite game engine garbage. Gears looks great on current gen and will only do better next gen. MS...hey lets dump that and focus on this POS Halo infinite that look like it was maybe last gen at best.....high fives around table at that point.
@@Rufnek2014 Tbh forza motorsport is a pretty impressive technical achievement. It has exceptional graphics and even better resolution than gt sport and the only let down is them not having animated pitstops which would be easy af but the devs are just too lazy. Also, Forza 7's bad lighting was completely a design choice by the devs. Forza 6 back in 2015 had amazing lighting and godray implementation. And it ran mostly 55-60fps on a console like the one s. That is a big deal.
Gears 5 looks amazing!! I hope this is a glimpse of the standard MS are aiming for and to further improve on next gen. Will make me one very happy XB scarlett user!! Looking forward to playing this over the weekend.
I'd say their first party team will run the gambit. Playground, Turn10, Coalition, 343 and The Initiative will be the "AAA" studios i imagine. Ninja Theory probably falls more in the AA but who knows, being part of Microsoft they could easily pump out true AAA titles (all due respect to Hellblade cause visually that game is def AAA but gameplay was a bit repetitive).
I wouldn't get excited because only Microsoft studios get this kinda treatment all 3rd party titles are ported and watered down. Dev's arent porting there games the right way these days.

The game is 4k 60 with so many amazing graphical detials and again all at 60fps on console I think gears 5 last of us 2 , arkam knight and red dead redemption will be seen as this generations best looking games
It's incredible how far gaming tech has come. Been playing games since the atari and I only dreamed of games looking this good. Can't wait to see what comes next.
I started with the Commodore 128, Nes, and the Sega Master System. Actually, before I started this I played my new Genesis Mini the day before. I fired Gears on my Xbox One X on a high end 4K UHD display. I have played some amazing games on our One X's and PSPRO's (my fiancee and I are gamers with multiples of every machine). The absolute cream of the crop has been Metro Exodus, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Devil May Cry....Gears V easily runs with these games like nobodies business. I love the Gears series but I must admit, I thought the fourth game was a little...lackluster. The campaign just seemed, I don't know, meh. It was at least a chapter too short. They could have given it another hour or so and it would have made the difference. Just one gamers take that started gaming in 1985. I have owned/own every single console that has ever hit US shores. My fiancee and I have a room dedicated to retro gaming. We have a full sized arcade in our living room with real stand up coin-op cabinets. Further, our master bedroom has 2 Xbox One X's, 2 PSPRO'S, and 2 Switches connected to 2 4K UHD screens. We both are life long gamers that are serious about gaming. She began in the mid-90's with the Sega Genesis/Sega CD and PSX. It has been a great deal of fun sharing so much she never had a chance to experience before. At any rate, sorry for the long post.
I tried Gears 5 last night on PC thanks to Game Pass Ultimate. I was blown away! Solid 4K60, HDR, and Dolby Atmos. The facial animations, lighting, and ultra detailed texture made for a eye watering presentation. So impressed that although I have access to Gears5, I am going to purchase it on Steam. This games deserves to be in my Steam Library!
Hi chris pomplun. Gears 5 does not support Ray Tracing. I think that is a good thing. If G5 supported ray tracing, most likely I would have had to play at 1080p or 30 FPS. Not worth it. My PC is hooked up to both a LG OLED 77” C8 and a Alienware 3440x1440 21:9 ultra wide monitor.
@Real Gamer Next generation consoles will basically be PC's. You will be able to choose 30 or 60fps and upscaled or Native 4k with both PS5 and Next Xbox supporting Free Sync.

@@yanceyboyz not to say gears 5 doesn't look good. It obviously looks fantastic but it didn't set any standard. That's a huge statement. Uncharted 4 set a standard because it was over four years ago and had unreal animations and motion capture and attention to detail/physics all done on a 1.8 tflop machine
@@brianmannion7097 Sony games do look fantastic but they are nearly all either sub 1440p or sub 60fps. Gears 5 at launch running consistently at 60fpe and above 1800p with much of its time spent at 4k, using all the latest bells and whistles unreal engine could muster, at above gears 4 pc insane settings, that is setting a new standard for console. I think the only game to surpass it technically this console generation, is Doom eternal. Gameplay is meh on gears 5 it not an incredible game compared to God of War or Spiderman but it definitely has the edge on them with it's resolution, frame rate and post processing pipeline.

Man there's a lot of salty PS4 Fanboys bent out of shape because of this game. Just talkin mad shit. It's like what the hell? I was the first to say God of War was an amazing game and Horizon zero Dawn. But all these people saying it's not a great looking game are in denial. And probably haven't even seen it on an Xbox One X. And that's not even mentioning the Dolby Atmos support which sounds amazing on my 5.1.2 surround sound. Headphones or 5.1 don't even come close. Hearing a helicopter or the wind blow above your skid is immersive as hell. Just a badass game. I'm getting some more faith in Microsoft after this one. Can't wait to see what they do with Halo infinite.
Have to agree with this comment. More games should support split screen gaming. I get it drops performance for some games but coop is need in quite a few games. Plus it good to share.

A stunning looking game on the Xbox One X, the HDR implementation is jaw dropping. I was never a Gears fan, but I am having a ball playing this. Well done Microsoft and The Coalition.
lol it's the same game reskined for years controls feel like you are driving a trailer truck, you can almost see bullets everything is clunky, and you can finish it in two days. the games it self is basically a Mad Max with different characters and a worse story
Tested this out on my GTX 1080 after a few hours of playing on the X, it runs at a native 4K 60fps and everything at Ultra, something that Gears 4 couldn't do on this card, its baffling how they got this so optimised. Had an all nighter playing this and I'm still only on Act 2 lol
Insane what the last gen still can do, with UE4 and this gen with UE5 where already the demo looks photorealistic whiteout optimisation, so in 3-4 years we should get almost photorealistic graphics.!

Discs are meaningless today. The disc basically just holds the licensing rights for the game. The game is still downloaded to your hard drive from the internet.
Leaving resolution open to scaling means they are future proofing the game. The next console will likely hold 4k more often and lock at 60. On my PC, I can't express how beautiful it is. Having a blast. Well done COA.

I think DF really downplays the difference between 60 fps and 30 fps. If you play a game at 60 fps and go and try to play the same game at 30, it will feel choppy.
Unless its on a nintendo platform. Switch gets a blind eye turned to almost every game despite being qualitatively and quantitatively worse in every department, but these guys always find some way (except for Ark) to justify and praise every title despite glaring shortcomings.
And I hate when they sometimes say that motion blur at 30fps makes up for not being 60fps. 30fps with motion blur doesn't look like 60fps, it just looks choppy and blurry. And 30fps with motion blur damn well doesn't feel like 60fps either. The difference between 30fps and 30fps with motion blur is one feels choppy and one feels choppy and is also blurry.
@@zybch Yep... On Switch the "analysis" goes out the window. Basically whatever it does is fine. Sometimes the standards are set so low that even my HP with UHD 620 could pass as a "gaming laptop"
@Octav Roman They are praising the Switch because it's getting full fledge consoles games running on it. Keep in mind that the GPU and CPU is heavily downclocked due to the chipset being a 20nm SOC from 2015. Along with the Switch only having 4gbs of ram and only 25gbs of memorybandwit. They are really amazed at how a portable device with very low specs can run the AAA games that it's getting. If the Switch can do all this imagine what cutting edge mobile technology of today can achieve.
This game is phenomenal Xbox is on fire. Microsoft back to the monster they once where. Greatest comeback in videogame history. Just think they have 15 studios now and coalition isn't even in their top 2. We haven't seen nothing yet, can't wait for fall 2020.
Not trying to kill your parade but Microsoft should and typically does get around 80's+ for their only three good games they make. Halo, Gears, and Forza. This game will be a great experience and there is nothing wrong with that, but Microsoft has failed to execute outside these franchises for almost 6 years.Its almost criminal how badly they have managed first and second party relationships. Its been so long that its a masters degree in patience. Its going to be a while longer even before we even have a chance at seeing success from them. I think Obsidian and Ninja Theory are their biggest value adds without a doubt, playground games already worked closely with Microsoft...., but we don't know how they will perform under the Microsoft banner. The new Ninja Theory game looks bad/feels bad man, I hate to say that because I like Ninja Theory. They have a terrible history managing studios this generation. To include dissolving Lion Head studios for forcing them to make a game that would fail and then letting them hold the bad bag when it did. Saying they will get Japanese developers on board and then cancel Platinum Game's Scalebound when they could have easily added value to the platform and just ate the cost of the game. Demanding that Bungie make Halo until they die and forcing one of the most talented mature studios that they had to leave their platform. Lets all hope that they give their talent the creative latitude and freedom necessary to create new experiences commensurate with the brand. The 360 literally had 4 times the first party content that this generation has and that is saying something. Also we have been waiting till next E3 for so long I could have had a child, taught him to ride a bike, do chores and read basic words before a good lineup from Microsoft will be out in full force. I have been buying Xbox for almost 20 years now, I wont be touching the hardware again or at least until I see some actual results from the platform. Until then I will play on PC in better quality anyway. What I am saying in the end Gears 5 is a start but its also to be expected. Show me a new AAA IP that does as well or better and I am on board again.

You can view their video right here on TH-cam. The textures, lighting, shadows, amount of onscreen action is as good or better than any other top console game. But here's the catch. All the other top graphics games are 30 fps. And a much lower resolution. God Of War 30 fps. Horizon Zero Dawn 30fps. Red Dead 2 on One X is 4k but only 30 fps. Spiderman 30fps. Gears 5 achieves this awesome level of fidelity. All while doubling the framerate over all these other titles. And holding a higher resolution. So it's not idiotic. Any PC gamer will tell you the higher framerate is way more demanding. Which makes Gears 5 way more impressive.

To be honest, I thought the gore/dismemberment when using the shotgun on enemies was downgraded. It used to look really wild and dynamic now it just looks like they explode into prebaked bits everytime.
Gears 5 is so different than the previous Gear games. It takes a lot influences from Uncharted and Last of Us, it’s absolutely brilliant. This is perhaps the Best first party Xbox One game to date. Awesome work by the guys at the Coalition 👍
I haven't seen any inspiration from Naughty Dog, at all. I do see God of War in Gears 5 though. God of War went from linear to open hubs that you could explore, side missions etc. Gears 5 is now alot more open than the previous games.
Not seeing the Naughtydog influence here in GOW either. There's a tonne of semi open world games that set the scene before Uncharted and The Last Of Us. This is without question the best Gears game since the original. It maybe even the best Gears game of all time.
Shisha CEO Uncharted 4 and Lost legacy both were open hub which encouraged exploration, same with Gears. I can see the God of war influences as well, the Coalition are stepping up big time. Hope they continue this upward trend. Best Xbox one game to date no doubt in my mind now.
Have you even played RDR2 on the XB1X or how about GOW on PS4 Pro? Those are just 2 games I can think of off the top of my head that have much higher graphical fidelity and I could easily pick out a dozen more if I went over to my game box shelf. G5 is a beautiful game, but it had to make some visual sacrifices on order to hit the 60fps target (I'm glad they did.) Those other games look way better graphically because they only have a 30fps target.
Red Dead 2 was an amazing game. The detail was amazing . It looked fantastic on my Xbox One X but this seems more crisper than that game. God of War was a badass looking game and a badass game in general. But that 4K 60 looks so good though. It's a toss-up. I guess it just depends on what you prefer.
Plus the HDR is amazing on this game. I wasn't a big fan of the HDR implementation on Red Dead 2. But Red Dead 2 and God of War we're better games in my opinion. They just didn't look as good.

The campaign is way bigger. My guess is it's all because of the multiplayer content they added into 4. If you look now, you'll see that the multiplayer content for Gears 5 is tiny compared to 4 for the obvious reason that it just came out. It's been quite a while but I also don't remember 4 being over 100GB when it first came out.

Of course it's a 60 fps game.G5 is a fast pace shooter and God of War is only a story driven game. God of war does have a performance mode that targets 60 fps on PS4 Pro. I've only seen very few titles match the graphicsl quality of God of War

I'm a big Gears fan, and a fan of good graphics in general,... but the plant life in Gears 5 is very disappointing, especially after how well I seen it done in games like Tombraider. It's like they put all graphical power into the characters but not as much in the environment(plants and some environment graphics). But I am the type to pay attention to detail when it comes to games(like I'll zoom on a rock on the floor just to see how much detail was put in it lol),.... the average person might think it looks amazing. But I do agree the character models and graphics are insane.
I noticed some of the texture work was questionable. Specifically if you look at the muzzle brake of the Pariah UIR tanks. However, this was on the S. Once I get my X, I'm going to go back and take a nice long look at that muzzle brake again and see how the texture work is with more power behind it.
@@helljumper5613 The thing is, I only play on an X and while in general graphics are good,.... it's just inconsistent like with the plant life having plain textures, and a few other environmental gripes I have.
The kind of skimped on some of the character animations and deaths too. I think people are being so dazzled by the polish of the fidelity that they aren't even noticing some of these things.

It’s very impressive. Played last night on my X1X/LG C9 OLED and its 4K/60/HDR/VRR is immaculate. Right up there with God of War, Witcher 3, AC: Odyssey, RDR2 as one of this gen’s stars. Just as importantly it’s a terrific game. I honestly thought Gears was dead and buried after the yawn fest of 4. But The Coalition have learned and grown and taken a huge stride forward. Kudos chaps. And man do they know how to wield UE4. Great stuff. MS must be mighty relieved. Feels like the game they’ve wanted and needed for a long while.
Enjoying this game one my one X so much the graphics are incredible and the smooth FPS perfects it, of course being a day one release there’s a couple of bugs and glitches, had the game only crash once but no biggie still remarkably impressed

Sony: lets take a 1080p60 console, double the GPU power, then it can do 4 times the work! Reality: no, no, that's not quite how this works... oh, and wait, was that real 4K30 on the pro, or is that upscaled? that being said, it's shame to be honest. as when using a pro in performance mode to try and aim for 1080p60, i'm pretty sure web swinging simulator is still locked to 30fps

You didn't mention it, but the death animations are fantastic! In all previous Gears games the enemies go into death animations or a downed state, here they seem to blow to bits in dynamic, ragdoll chunks. Really smooth and a great new addition for the series.

gears 5 is a title that highlights that the original xbox isn't quite so underpowered while it absolutely shines on the X. Great optimization on the PC as well. This is how games should be developed. I'm really impressed with what Microsoft has been doing on PC in few years

gpu wise yes. CPU wise it's basically the same thing with the ps4. they tried to compensate this with the Esram, but apart from first party titles nobody really bothered to take advantage of it hence the lower resolution and performance. this was caused by the fact that the ps5 was easier to code for and in most cases it became the leading development platform. The problem is that xbox had very few exclusives to make the console shine. Same thing happened with ps3 last gen when they decided to split the memory in 2 blocks of 256 mb xdr dram and one gdddr3. the 360 had only a gddr3 module of 512 and that ESram that continued on the one. But PS3 had good exclusives, late gen games looked way better than what the xbox could ever do. multiplatform games, not so much. I still stand with my opinion, it's just a shame that xbox didn't quite really shined this gen

It blew me away when I turned resolution to 8K on PC. The framerate gets locked 60fps. And the game doesn't even support SLI.
With this level of optimisation, I am sure MS can deliver native 8K titles on the next gen console.

You got to love the twilight years of a console gen. Last 3 years of the still current- gen produce some of the best looking games yet AND we have the 1 year cross gen year when games on last-gen consoles start looking somewhat visually compromised if they would've been made just for those consoles, but somewhat more expansive and ambitious given they need to be a showcase for new consoles as well.
For 6th gen, games on PS2/GameCube/Xbox were really something to behold between 2004-2006 compared to early gen years. Examples: Thief Deadly Shadows, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Half-life 2, Doom 3, Riddick, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Tomb Raider Legend, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, God of War 2, Metroid Prime 2/3, Rogue Squadron (or whatever it was called, the trilogy of Star Wars games available on Gamecube), Resident Evil 4.

Which means (as you said) - after a few years...by the mid-way point for the 9th gen (when games that are being created/started NOW in early development) IE like Elder Scrolls VI (which as much as Bethesda gets alot of hate/visceral as of late) well they are outsourcing its development (part Bethesda in-house dev + Obsidian games with Chris Avellone you know the guy from Fallout: new Vegas lead designer, and Wasteland 2, and Divinity: Original Sin 2, as well as early 2000s CRPG titles like Planescape: Torment, and Neverwinter Night, as well as Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn) he was also a lead designer during the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind era.
So a great developer + new game engine + entirely new gen

I always thought the eyes looked very lifelike in this game. That's one thing a lot of studios screw up on. The face looks very detailed but yet sometimes the character has dead eyes. Idk what it is but the eyes in this game actually show character and emotion

I'm utterly disappointed with MS and Xbox. It's so bad, they now disgust me. Non stop hype with nothing to show for it. Gears 5 is the ONLY redeeming game of the whole generation and it's only due to the hard work on the part of the Coalition....not MS. Halo, and every other game is pretty much garbage or a better experience on PC. If you want a variety of exclusives, go to Sony. Sad part is, WHY did it take so long to clean up the game engine for Gears and WHY do other devs not get it? READ this as HALO infinite game engine garbage. Gears looks great on current gen and will only do better next gen. MS...hey lets dump that and focus on this POS Halo infinite that look like it was maybe last gen at best.....high fives around table at that point.
@@Rufnek2014 Tbh forza motorsport is a pretty impressive technical achievement. It has exceptional graphics and even better resolution than gt sport and the only let down is them not having animated pitstops which would be easy af but the devs are just too lazy.
Also, Forza 7's bad lighting was completely a design choice by the devs. Forza 6 back in 2015 had amazing lighting and godray implementation.
And it ran mostly 55-60fps on a console like the one s. That is a big deal.

I'd say their first party team will run the gambit. Playground, Turn10, Coalition, 343 and The Initiative will be the "AAA" studios i imagine. Ninja Theory probably falls more in the AA but who knows, being part of Microsoft they could easily pump out true AAA titles (all due respect to Hellblade cause visually that game is def AAA but gameplay was a bit repetitive).
I wouldn't get excited because only Microsoft studios get this kinda treatment all 3rd party titles are ported and watered down. Dev's arent porting there games the right way these days.

I started with the Commodore 128, Nes, and the Sega Master System. Actually, before I started this I played my new Genesis Mini the day before. I fired Gears on my Xbox One X on a high end 4K UHD display.
I have played some amazing games on our One X's and PSPRO's (my fiancee and I are gamers with multiples of every machine). The absolute cream of the crop has been Metro Exodus, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Devil May Cry....Gears V easily runs with these games like nobodies business. I love the Gears series but I must admit, I thought the fourth game was a little...lackluster. The campaign just seemed, I don't know, meh. It was at least a chapter too short. They could have given it another hour or so and it would have made the difference.
Just one gamers take that started gaming in 1985. I have owned/own every single console that has ever hit US shores. My fiancee and I have a room dedicated to retro gaming. We have a full sized arcade in our living room with real stand up coin-op cabinets. Further, our master bedroom has 2 Xbox One X's, 2 PSPRO'S, and 2 Switches connected to 2 4K UHD screens. We both are life long gamers that are serious about gaming. She began in the mid-90's with the Sega Genesis/Sega CD and PSX. It has been a great deal of fun sharing so much she never had a chance to experience before.
At any rate, sorry for the long post.
Over two years later and technically, the One X version of this game still wipes the floor with many Series X 'optimised' titles.
I tried Gears 5 last night on PC thanks to Game Pass Ultimate. I was blown away! Solid 4K60, HDR, and Dolby Atmos. The facial animations, lighting, and ultra detailed texture made for a eye watering presentation.
So impressed that although I have access to Gears5, I am going to purchase it on Steam. This games deserves to be in my Steam Library!

Hi chris pomplun. Gears 5 does not support Ray Tracing. I think that is a good thing. If G5 supported ray tracing, most likely I would have had to play at 1080p or 30 FPS. Not worth it. My PC is hooked up to both a LG OLED 77” C8 and a Alienware 3440x1440 21:9 ultra wide monitor.

@@brianmannion7097 Sony games do look fantastic but they are nearly all either sub 1440p or sub 60fps. Gears 5 at launch running consistently at 60fpe and above 1800p with much of its time spent at 4k, using all the latest bells and whistles unreal engine could muster, at above gears 4 pc insane settings, that is setting a new standard for console. I think the only game to surpass it technically this console generation, is Doom eternal. Gameplay is meh on gears 5 it not an incredible game compared to God of War or Spiderman but it definitely has the edge on them with it's resolution, frame rate and post processing pipeline.
It seems gears 5 sets a new high for HDR. I am very very impressed. I hope you guys also analize that. thanks!

Man there's a lot of salty PS4 Fanboys bent out of shape because of this game. Just talkin mad shit. It's like what the hell? I was the first to say God of War was an amazing game and Horizon zero Dawn. But all these people saying it's not a great looking game are in denial. And probably haven't even seen it on an Xbox One X. And that's not even mentioning the Dolby Atmos support which sounds amazing on my 5.1.2 surround sound. Headphones or 5.1 don't even come close. Hearing a helicopter or the wind blow above your skid is immersive as hell. Just a badass game. I'm getting some more faith in Microsoft after this one. Can't wait to see what they do with Halo infinite.

Tested this out on my GTX 1080 after a few hours of playing on the X, it runs at a native 4K 60fps and everything at Ultra, something that Gears 4 couldn't do on this card, its baffling how they got this so optimised.
Had an all nighter playing this and I'm still only on Act 2 lol

Insane what the last gen still can do, with UE4 and this gen with UE5 where already the demo looks photorealistic whiteout optimisation, so in 3-4 years we should get almost photorealistic graphics.!

Discs are meaningless today. The disc basically just holds the licensing rights for the game. The game is still downloaded to your hard drive from the internet.

Leaving resolution open to scaling means they are future proofing the game. The next console will likely hold 4k more often and lock at 60. On my PC, I can't express how beautiful it is. Having a blast. Well done COA.

I think DF really downplays the difference between 60 fps and 30 fps. If you play a game at 60 fps and go and try to play the same game at 30, it will feel choppy.
Unless its on a nintendo platform. Switch gets a blind eye turned to almost every game despite being qualitatively and quantitatively worse in every department, but these guys always find some way (except for Ark) to justify and praise every title despite glaring shortcomings.
And I hate when they sometimes say that motion blur at 30fps makes up for not being 60fps. 30fps with motion blur doesn't look like 60fps, it just looks choppy and blurry. And 30fps with motion blur damn well doesn't feel like 60fps either.
The difference between 30fps and 30fps with motion blur is one feels choppy and one feels choppy and is also blurry.

@Octav Roman They are praising the Switch because it's getting full fledge consoles games running on it. Keep in mind that the GPU and CPU is heavily downclocked due to the chipset being a 20nm SOC from 2015. Along with the Switch only having 4gbs of ram and only 25gbs of memorybandwit. They are really amazed at how a portable device with very low specs can run the AAA games that it's getting. If the Switch can do all this imagine what cutting edge mobile technology of today can achieve.

Not trying to kill your parade but Microsoft should and typically does get around 80's+ for their only three good games they make. Halo, Gears, and Forza. This game will be a great experience and there is nothing wrong with that, but Microsoft has failed to execute outside these franchises for almost 6 years.Its almost criminal how badly they have managed first and second party relationships. Its been so long that its a masters degree in patience. Its going to be a while longer even before we even have a chance at seeing success from them. I think Obsidian and Ninja Theory are their biggest value adds without a doubt, playground games already worked closely with Microsoft...., but we don't know how they will perform under the Microsoft banner. The new Ninja Theory game looks bad/feels bad man, I hate to say that because I like Ninja Theory. They have a terrible history managing studios this generation. To include dissolving Lion Head studios for forcing them to make a game that would fail and then letting them hold the bad bag when it did. Saying they will get Japanese developers on board and then cancel Platinum Game's Scalebound when they could have easily added value to the platform and just ate the cost of the game. Demanding that Bungie make Halo until they die and forcing one of the most talented mature studios that they had to leave their platform. Lets all hope that they give their talent the creative latitude and freedom necessary to create new experiences commensurate with the brand. The 360 literally had 4 times the first party content that this generation has and that is saying something. Also we have been waiting till next E3 for so long I could have had a child, taught him to ride a bike, do chores and read basic words before a good lineup from Microsoft will be out in full force. I have been buying Xbox for almost 20 years now, I wont be touching the hardware again or at least until I see some actual results from the platform. Until then I will play on PC in better quality anyway. What I am saying in the end Gears 5 is a start but its also to be expected. Show me a new AAA IP that does as well or better and I am on board again.

The textures, lighting, shadows, amount of onscreen action is as good or better than any other top console game. But here's the catch.
All the other top graphics games are 30 fps. And a much lower resolution.
God Of War 30 fps. Horizon Zero Dawn 30fps. Red Dead 2 on One X is 4k but only 30 fps. Spiderman 30fps.
Gears 5 achieves this awesome level of fidelity. All while doubling the framerate over all these other titles. And holding a higher resolution.
So it's not idiotic. Any PC gamer will tell you the higher framerate is way more demanding. Which makes Gears 5 way more impressive.

To be honest, I thought the gore/dismemberment when using the shotgun on enemies was downgraded. It used to look really wild and dynamic now it just looks like they explode into prebaked bits everytime.

Gears 5 is so different than the previous Gear games. It takes a lot influences from Uncharted and Last of Us, it’s absolutely brilliant.

I haven't seen any inspiration from Naughty Dog, at all. I do see God of War in Gears 5 though. God of War went from linear to open hubs that you could explore, side missions etc. Gears 5 is now alot more open than the previous games.
Not seeing the Naughtydog influence here in GOW either. There's a tonne of semi open world games that set the scene before Uncharted and The Last Of Us.
This is without question the best Gears game since the original. It maybe even the best Gears game of all time.
Shisha CEO Uncharted 4 and Lost legacy both were open hub which encouraged exploration, same with Gears. I can see the God of war influences as well, the Coalition are stepping up big time. Hope they continue this upward trend.

Have you even played RDR2 on the XB1X or how about GOW on PS4 Pro? Those are just 2 games I can think of off the top of my head that have much higher graphical fidelity and I could easily pick out a dozen more if I went over to my game box shelf. G5 is a beautiful game, but it had to make some visual sacrifices on order to hit the 60fps target (I'm glad they did.) Those other games look way better graphically because they only have a 30fps target.

Red Dead 2 was an amazing game. The detail was amazing . It looked fantastic on my Xbox One X but this seems more crisper than that game. God of War was a badass looking game and a badass game in general. But that 4K 60 looks so good though. It's a toss-up. I guess it just depends on what you prefer.
Plus the HDR is amazing on this game. I wasn't a big fan of the HDR implementation on Red Dead 2. But Red Dead 2 and God of War we're better games in my opinion. They just didn't look as good.

The campaign is way bigger. My guess is it's all because of the multiplayer content they added into 4. If you look now, you'll see that the multiplayer content for Gears 5 is tiny compared to 4 for the obvious reason that it just came out. It's been quite a while but I also don't remember 4 being over 100GB when it first came out.

Of course it's a 60 fps game.G5 is a fast pace shooter and God of War is only a story driven game. God of war does have a performance mode that targets 60 fps on PS4 Pro. I've only seen very few titles match the graphicsl quality of God of War

I'm a big Gears fan, and a fan of good graphics in general,... but the plant life in Gears 5 is very disappointing, especially after how well I seen it done in games like Tombraider.
It's like they put all graphical power into the characters but not as much in the environment(plants and some environment graphics).
But I am the type to pay attention to detail when it comes to games(like I'll zoom on a rock on the floor just to see how much detail was put in it lol),.... the average person might think it looks amazing.
But I do agree the character models and graphics are insane.
I noticed some of the texture work was questionable. Specifically if you look at the muzzle brake of the Pariah UIR tanks. However, this was on the S. Once I get my X, I'm going to go back and take a nice long look at that muzzle brake again and see how the texture work is with more power behind it.
@@helljumper5613 The thing is, I only play on an X and while in general graphics are good,.... it's just inconsistent like with the plant life having plain textures, and a few other environmental gripes I have.
The kind of skimped on some of the character animations and deaths too. I think people are being so dazzled by the polish of the fidelity that they aren't even noticing some of these things.
I've never played a gears game but I believe I will be now. Very beautiful game and it looks well made.

It’s very impressive. Played last night on my X1X/LG C9 OLED and its 4K/60/HDR/VRR is immaculate. Right up there with God of War, Witcher 3, AC: Odyssey, RDR2 as one of this gen’s stars. Just as importantly it’s a terrific game. I honestly thought Gears was dead and buried after the yawn fest of 4. But The Coalition have learned and grown and taken a huge stride forward. Kudos chaps. And man do they know how to wield UE4. Great stuff. MS must be mighty relieved. Feels like the game they’ve wanted and needed for a long while.

You didn't mention it, but the death animations are fantastic! In all previous Gears games the enemies go into death animations or a downed state, here they seem to blow to bits in dynamic, ragdoll chunks. Really smooth and a great new addition for the series.
