Grass cannot be consumed. Basically it has far too heavy fibres to be digested. A cow for example has three stomachs, it swallows his grass into one stomach, spits it out, swallows it again into another and so on, until it is finally digested. He also has special bacteria that aid him. You have one stomach and no bacteria. You will get 0 nutrients from grass. Tried this a couple of weeks ago - very nice. We had it two days on the run (big batch so we finished it off the next day). The following day, the taste had 'matured' and it tasted even better. Thank you
What a great vegan recipe. It is great to see recipes that don't use pre-made ingredients (i.e. "vegan butter," "vegan cheese," "vegan mayo") and instead uses whole food ingredients. Thanks Jaimie!
That's been our Christmas meal for years now, it's so good! The old Jamie recipe that I use has a crust of bread crumbs and rosemary on top of the potatoes, which makes it even better 😊 Also, the mash has sweet potatoes and normal potatoes in it.
Thank you for another vegan recipe. I made your vegan cottage pie, and that was great, so do this one as well. I love the fact that you used tomato sauce with it; I did the same with the cottage pie. Delish!
I'd just veganised my old meat shepherds pie recipe when I went vegan. But wow this looks so good, gonna be whipping this up sharpish!!!! Thanks Jamie 😊

I love how Jamie just pulverizes those mushrooms with his hands!!! I equally loved his method of just tearing apart the bell peppers before chopping them for his black bean soup!
I love that he draws attention to the " sticky bits "!!!! As they are ,almost, the best bits. I have fond memories of both my Brother and myself, when we were kids , always picking at the " sticky bits" from the roasting tin shortly after the roast chicken or beef came outta the oven. We used to call them the "picky bits" and would sometimes even fight over them. Not to mention getting told off by Mum for picking outta the tin all those tasty bits that would've been de glazed n used in the gravy!!! Years later, I'm now veggie so I thought "picky bits " were a thing of the past, till I saw this ....you should've seen the smile on my face, ...grinning from ear to ear. Then I tried the recipe a couple times and am glad to announce,....there were indeed " picky bits"!!! Wahey!!! My Brother, May He Rest In Peace, passed in 2021, and I know he was smiling as I was watching this and reminiscing. Thank you Jamie for the foodie passion you share with your recipes. It is very much appreciated. Much P&L.xx.
I believe, since it's winter season, chestnuts would also be a nice addition for the "mince" bit of the pie. Moreover, sprinkle nutritional yeast on top of the mashed potatoes for an extra crust; I've always felt it adds to vegan dishes. Cheers.
Feel like chestnuts might be a bit heavy - maybe just a few for taste/texture? Nutritional yeast for crust? Hmm... I've always been iffy about trying it - hear so many saying it tastes a bit meh... Interesting idea though. Might pick up a pack (if I can find it).

A few tips: -Time saving tip: Whenever you make or have broth, always keep some in your icecube tray in your freezer=Always ready to use when needed (same with pesto or whatever) -Mash potatoes: Keep some of the rosemary and add some in there or dill or thyme, but most importantly add a dollop of coconut oil or butter, you can thank me later!! The oil instead of butter in the mash potatoes makes it Vegan as opposed to Veggie. I followed this recipe all the way , but had to sprinkle some grated cheese on the whole meal at the end as I really like cheese. So up until that point the meal was Vegan, with cheese it became Veggie. Have been a Vegetarian for over 4yrs now, will eat Vegan food too, especially when it tastes as good as this!!!.....just not ready to give up cheese, chocolate and Hagen Daaz ice cream yet.
