  • Today we are replacing a turbo on a 2.5L diesel Hyundai iMax.
There are a few common causes of turbo failure on this model that need to be checked to avoid a repeat failure in a very short amount of time.
As you will see, these common causes can also cause engine failure.
    Comments always appreciated.

Hey Steven! Great vid. Would you recommend the same injector washer replacement schedule for Hyundai’s smaller 1.7 CRDI?

Not a mechanic, but I really appreciate the valuable insight (especially the info on preventative measures!)

Hi Steven I love and appreciate your video! Can you upload or share tips on what to do with a video showing how to change the head gasket for a 2010 Hyundai H1 DIESEL turbo? I am having overheating issues and significant loss of power, whiteish smoke with a sweet smell from exhaust

Steve Sorensen Mechanical ... How much does it cost to change the copper washer injector seals? How long do the injectors last in these vans?

Thanks guys! Is it a known issue to have back pressure on the turbo blowing oil up the air intake towards the air box?

Does the egr valve also help buildup of that gunk which eventually helps out in staving the turbo? I'm about to program my egr shut aswell as dpf and tuning at a company that does things like that for a living. It feels like the egr valve does nothing but bad things when it comes to engine lifetime. I got a H1 starex / also known as iload - 2008. I was thinking of changing the turbo regardless of axle sloppyness just to make sure I can sleep at nights knowing it's new. I will do that after the egr-fix and possibly some decarbonization fix.

EGR contributes to gunked up inlets but it shouldn't be affecting the oil that's still in the engine much. People often blank off the egr system but you really shouldn't do so, it causes a lot of extra NOx pollution and may actually wear the engine faster by making it take longer to warm up. Similarly you shouldn't delete the DPF if you have one. Diesel soot causes cancer.

I recently bought a 2012 imax with the 2.5L diesel D4CB engine and checked this aspect. It does not need the the injector seals replaced. Pity the video maker has not replied.

My H1 Cargo Went dead on the freeway. fault code on camshaftpositioning sensor. New sensor doesnt make any difference. Starterengine turns very light. already Before pushing oil out thrue hoses from turbo to IC. Could the Engine have blown up like you explain in the video? 295,000km on it. New turbo two years ago.

Your timing chain gets done at 275k. It's in your handbook.
Had a mate who managed to get 450k out of the original chain. It will seem like it just run out of fuel when it goes.

@@Djavo1 yeah. Lernt that the problem starts with oil starvation, due to burnt oil clogging oil-pickup.
