They are amazing and one of my fave bands but they have had a controversy that isn’t talked about much! They used to be HIV/AIDS denialists…I know it sounds mad now but there was a big movement in the 90s/early 00s about the denialism of hiv/aids or that it wasn’t as severe of a disease and that you could treat it effectively with alternative medicines. They even did a benefit concert in January 2000 for a aids denialism charity. They don’t speak about this now lol
I cannot fathom you being a huge Nirvana fan but never having heard Foo Fighters :) you've got a LOT of catching up to do, and you're going to LOVE IT.
After all these years, their best song is "Monkey Wrench". Their sound has changed a bit over time, becoming more polished and radio ready. They're still great but, I recommend diving into their earlier work first.
Dave hasn't just been involved in the Foos since Nirvana. He was also the drummer in a supergroup called Them Crooked Vultures with John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stoneage. I think you would really like that as well.

Foo Fighters is right down the middle of the good old basic Rock category, sometimes heavier, sometimes less heavy, but in terms of overall style... Pure Rock. Dave Grohl is in a rare class of artists who have been to the top of the mountain in the world of music twice with two completely different bands, and not only that, he did it in two completely different roles. And he is also in the sad position of having had two successful bands impacted by tragic deaths of key members. Grohl is going to be remembered in the future as one of the great figures of rock history.
My daughter just saw them in concert a couple weeks ago in Colorado, it was her 4th time to see them. She said they were great though it was outdoors and unusually warm that day for Colorado and at one point Dave jokingly begged the audience to let him sing a ballad so he could catch his breath from the thinner altitude! Today she’s in Montana for a Pearl Jam concert, her 5th time to see PJ! She said almost everyone on the plane from Colorado to Montana was going for the Pearl Jam concert, ha, so it was like a big pre-concert party on the plane! Apparently everyone was very enthusiastic about heading to see Pearl Jam!
Dave still drums sometimes plus he's drummed for Queens of the Stone Age, amongst others. I love the Foo's and have ever since their first song was released.
Just saw Foo Fighters last month and it was the very last bucket list band I had. Took my 20 year old kid and had a fucking blast. Dave Grohl is doing EXACTLY what he was born to do. I've seen a lot of shows, good and bad, but I've never seen a front man so happy to be doing what he does. Dude's older than I am and never stopped moving, for almost 3 hours.

Since you asked since when Dave Grohl could sing... the producer who worked with Nirvana a lot has done a series going through their old original recordings and revealed that in the studio Dave did a lot of the backing vocals on Nirvana tracks along with Kurt. So... always. Dave always sang LOL
Their first album came out a year after Kurt passed away and I remember how different and amazing it was the first time I heard it. Dave did all the instruments and vocals on it. Their second and third albums are so good I can’t even describe. The Colour and the Shape is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Best concert memory I have (so far), is David Grohl singing and playing guitar on his throne, after breaking his leg. We had a lunar eclipse at the same time, and it was so surreal. If the world had ended at that point, it would've been peaceful.

Dave is that rare artist that's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. First with Nirvana and recently with TFF. He's a truly epic legend and an all around good guy. RIP Kurt and Taylor.
He's an amazing teacher as well. He's wonderful with Kids in his vicinity. Nandi Bushell (an 11yr. old at the time) challenged Dave to a drum-off, and he accepted and apparently enjoyed this challenge. And the second young person was Taylor Hawkin's son playing drums with the Foo Fighters (There Goes My Hero). Glorious.
If you ever get a chance to see the Foos you will not be disappointed. I’ve seen them twice and they are brilliant live. Dave is actually a really funny guy and some of the videos show that. I don’t know how he kept going after Taylor passed but like a true soldier he continues to this day. Great reaction 🤘🏼

Got the chance to see the Foo in the mid 90's. Was my first real concert and I actually wasn't a huge fan until I saw them... especially doing monkey wrench live...BLEW MY MIND and I've been a fan ever since. I'm in the Seattle area so Nirvana, foo, Soundgarden, pearl jam, Alice in chains, heart, Jimmy Hendrix...and more! We have no shortage of awesome music that's come out of our area!

Like you just mentioned, this song (and their other songs, really) makes you feel like they're gearing you up for something; there's an anticipation of this big break that's gonna happen during the song - - and it always does. I hate that you missed the Foos from earlier, because, to me, what they were was a palliative to help us deal with the loss of Kurt and, resultingly, the loss of Nirvana. Having the Foos there doing what they do so well helped us deal with that loss, I think. Hope it helps you as well with missing Nirvana

Then losing Taylor (the amazing drummer in FF), and through it all, he still goes on. He is an AVID bbq legend and smokes thousands of pounds of food for the homeless as often as he can. Dave still drums sometimes plus he's drummed for Queens of the Stone Age, amongst others. I love the Foo's and have ever since their first song was released.
Just saw Foo Fighters last month and it was the very last bucket list band I had. Took my 20 year old kid and had a fucking blast. Dave Grohl is doing EXACTLY what he was born to do. I've seen a lot of shows, good and bad, but I've never seen a front man so happy to be doing what he does. Dude's older than I am and never stopped moving, for almost 3 hours.

Was never much of a Nirvana fan but Foo Fighters? Dave Grohl and company is fucking incredible!!!!
Fun fact about Nirvana. Dave sang backup vocals for most of his time with Nirvana. (Just as Foo Fighters' former drummer, Taylor Hawkins, sang backup vocals for his group.)
Also, Dave wrote a Nirvana song called "Marigold", which showed up on a single B-side.

I love the versatility of this band. You'll find rock, metal, prog, acoustic, disco music (!!!!!!), brazilian rhythm, sad songs, happy songs, songs to cry, songs to headbang, hilarious videoclips, incredible drums (RIP Tayor), everything you want they have, and I didn't even say everything you can find. I guarantee you.

Since you asked since when Dave Grohl could sing... the producer who worked with Nirvana a lot has done a series going through their old original recordings and revealed that in the studio Dave did a lot of the backing vocals on Nirvana tracks along with Kurt. So... always. Dave always sang LOL

Their first album came out a year after Kurt passed away and I remember how different and amazing it was the first time I heard it. Dave did all the instruments and vocals on it. Their second and third albums are so good I can’t even describe. The Colour and the Shape is one of my favorite albums of all time.
I just saw them in concert a couple weeks ago in Colorado, US. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in my life (and I’ve been to hundreds)!!!!
Outside of a friend or two helping play bass and guitar parts on a few songs, Dave wrote and performed every song on the first Foo Fighters album. He made the band name before organizing the original lineup because he didn't want everyone knowing it was "that guy from Nirvana" when the demos started getting shared.
A huge catalog of great music to dig into! Dave's got a great scream but also a great singing voice. You will enjoy going through their music Mollyboy.

The fact that Dave was a great drummer in Nirvana doesn't begin to explain how the Foo's became as awesome as they are. I mean, it does. Dave loves being a musician and the fact that he has elevated every aspect of the band AND he seems like the coolest dude on the planet doesn't seem fair to everyone else.
Look into Everlong (the most obvious option), Walk, Learning to Fly....and about 50 other songs you surely must have heard by accident by now.
Dave Grohl is awesome. Such a good song writer. Their best song (IMO) is Everlong. Taylor Hawkins is a spectacular drummer.

I gotta say when you first said "can you sing" (that's what I heard, but my hearing is damaged)... I was like oh come on just give him the chance to blow your hat off. And then the look hit your face, that look that relays "WTAF did I just see or hear". This man sings his heart out, with gum in his mouth, hair in his face, and so much love for the audience. Best concert memory I have (so far), is David Grohl singing and playing guitar on his throne, after breaking his leg. We had a lunar eclipse at the same time, and it was so surreal. If the world had ended at that point, it would've been peaceful.

Dave is that rare artist that's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. First with Nirvana and recently with TFF. He's a truly epic legend and an all around good guy. RIP Kurt and Taylor.
He's an amazing teacher as well. He's wonderful with Kids in his vicinity. Nandi Bushell (an 11yr. old at the time) challenged Dave to a drum-off, and he accepted and apparently enjoyed this challenge. And the second young person was Taylor Hawkin's son playing drums with the Foo Fighters (There Goes My Hero). Glorious.
If you ever get a chance to see the Foos you will not be disappointed. I’ve seen them twice and they are brilliant live. Dave is actually a really funny guy and some of the videos show that. I don’t know how he kept going after Taylor passed but like a true soldier he continues to this day. Great reaction 🤘🏼
I've been to hundreds of gigs over the years but the energy and atmosphere at a Foo's gig is like no other, they are in a league of their own.
The dude encompasses rock music. Such a talent. He really could have completely walked away after Nirvana, but decided that he still wanted to be a part of music and we are ALL better off for that decision. The dude abides.
Got the chance to see the Foo in the mid 90's. Was my first real concert and I actually wasn't a huge fan until I saw them... especially doing monkey wrench live...BLEW MY MIND and I've been a fan ever since. I'm in the Seattle area so Nirvana, foo, Soundgarden, pearl jam, Alice in chains, heart, Jimmy Hendrix...and more! We have no shortage of awesome music that's come out of our area!

One can't not be impressed with Dave Grohl and this band. plus, Dave is just a cool upbeat nice guy who makes good music. their songs always hype me up which is wonderful. Like you just mentioned, this song (and their other songs, really) makes you feel like they're gearing you up for something; there's an anticipation of this big break that's gonna happen during the song - - and it always does. I hate that you missed the Foos from earlier, because, to me, what they were was a palliative to help us deal with the loss of Kurt and, resultingly, the loss of Nirvana. Having the Foos there doing what they do so well helped us deal with that loss, I think. Hope it helps you as well with missing Nirvana
YES kid! I love watching your musical journey. Dave Grohl is one of the most amazing humans on this fucked up Earth. Losing Kurt. Then losing Taylor (the amazing drummer in FF), and through it all, he still goes on. He is an AVID bbq legend and smokes thousands of pounds of food for the homeless as often as he can. The man is a god damn legend.
