1979 is a totally different vibe, went in the more electronic direction that Billy wanted to go in after Mellon Collie. It's not my favorite sound of theirs...I live for the excruciatingly distorted heavy ass guitars juxtaposed against Billy's childlike, bratty voice. Pure magic.

Pumpkins are contemporaries of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, that whole early 90s alt rock scene. I don't know that I would call them grunge because that term is kind of contrived, but this is totally of that same era.
Grunge, Alt Rock, Art Rock... they're one of those who are delightfully difficult to pigeonhole! They are their own sound, which has evolved. Last three albums are very synth driven.
Yes, Smashing Pumpkins is a great band from the 90's! Great song to start! Tonight Tonight and 1979 are in my lists. They came around in the middle of the grunge era, but I think they are more alternative rock.
This band helped keep me alive as a teenager. Pumpkins were my favorite for so, so, so many years. I'm my opinion, their deep cuts are their best songs
Meloncholie and the Infinite sadness deserves a full listen to as well, but on his time when the "hits" have been covered. It's a great 2 disc set, but probably not a good one for a video.

The 90s were a great time to be alive for music and movies. Every generation says that, but it's true. Grunge, alternative, gangsta rap/west coast hip hop, swing revival, ska punk popularity, Fight Club, Usual Suspects, Jurassic Park, Seven, The Game...
'Ava Adore', which is a single from the album that followed 'Mellon Collie...' that made them very well known, thanks to MTV and a lot of radio airplay, is a little gem of a song (a bit more industrial sounding) and a very cool video.

LOL, I just wrote a similar assessment. This song/album marks the point when I stopped listening to their new stuff.
They were my favorite band for so many years, i was young during their prime. I remember hearing this single before the album came out and being like, whoa. They are definitely worth checking out more ❤
The Smashing Pumpkins are the best alternative grunge band ever Billy is a beast on the guitar go Smashing Pumpkins😊
The Pumpkins have been around since the early 90's. They are still making records and are currently on a world tour selling out arenas and stadiums all across Europe at the moment.
More Smashing Pumpkins for sure! First album is Gish and second album is Siamese Dream. Any of those songs are a great place to start. Love it!
I love that you are experiencing all of these songs that were so important in my youth. I do agree you might have been born too late, like you have mentioned before, but it is wonderful watching you discover this amazing music. The Smashing Pumpkins volume of work is amazing and has a lot of variety.
You've got so much to dig through with Smashing Pumpkins! Released possibly some of the greatest albums of the 1990s and definitely the greatest double album of the last 30 years - Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness. Their music is so diverse - super heavy distorted guitars through to beautiful and delicate orchestral / acoustic pieces. Cherub Rock, Today, Hummer, Soma, Geek USA, Disarm, Silverf*uck, XYU, An Ode to No One, Muzzle, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Galapogos, I am One, Snail, Mayonnaise. Go for your life!
I knew you were going to love this song! Nicely done!!🤘
You must listen to Mayonaise next. The tone and the distortion in that song is un freaking believable.
That was really good! Still waiting for the Godsmack Straight Out Of Line video reaction! Come on man!
