I just mentioned this to my wife yesterday while walking around the lake in our neighborhood. We saw a sign that said “Don’t drink the water”. Do we really need a sign that warns people not to drink the water in the lake???

Labels and signs are a way for companies and estates to cover possibilities for legal reasons, and not because people are stupid. Accidents happen even under the best of conditions, and liability can be assigned if the bases aren't met - which means implementing signs that state the obvious. It would be wise to take a good look in the mirror before you run around calling other people idiots.

I had implants into my prostate for cancer treatment. One of my instructions for care was not to shove any hard objects up my butt. I wondered if that really had to be said. Did someone in the past do that and had complications? And, then did they complain to the clinic that they were not told?
A lot of these warnings sign seem silly to younger folk (anyone under 50) but once you get older, you want to know about curb, or if something is slippery, etc, because once you fall and break something or have a hard time getting up, you learn to be more cautious.
