I pulled up in a BMW and was looking at a $55k used car. I couldn’t believe that is their policy. I’m a car guy, and from the looks of it, the engine bay has some mods. The “emissions issue” that they are talking about is probably just a simple cat delete, and aftermarket exhaust system, which causes a benign check engine light. Doesn’t do any harm drivability or car health wise, it’s just a bit modified is all.
Agreed. I have a Supra and I can guarantee it's 100% because of a catless downpipe. Nothing is wrong with the engine, it's just the car saying it's detecting off nominal reading on the downpipe's O2 sensor, since it has no Cat. I've been running catless for over 10,000 miles with a CEL and the car has 0 problems.

Doesn’t really sound like it was a dream and he is more of a fanboy. The check engine light is because of the catless downpipe and it is throwing a code that is safe to ignore. THE CAR IS FINE.
Yep, I have a 23 Supra with a catless downpipe and it also has a CEL. Someone should reach out to this guy and have him do a code scan through his OBD port - if it's something like P0420 then the only thing he needs to worry about is passing emissions since it looks like he's in CA. At 1:55 I spotted an AMS engine cover, Blitz strut bar, carbon radiator plate, dress up bolts, and custom caps so it's likely the previous owner swapped out the downpipe since it's one of the first bolt ons you can do for immediate power.

I'm retired from a 30 year career in the car business. I worked for three quality dealers, and the rule was always that the customer had to drive the car first before signing paperwork - it didn't matter if the car was an exotic or a classic or a cash car. I did meet customers with previous bad car buying stories, and I always wondered why they went ahead and bought cars from people who were not treating them right. The problem with sellers like this is they often obfuscate their business behind shells and hard to trace ownership - they know they will likely get sued at some time. Best wishes Hector, I hope your attorney can get the dealer to unwind the transaction - I wish that California was more strict in their dealer licensing. The people who did this to Hector probably have a history of such deals, but somehow manage to keep their dealer license.

The truck driver’s insurance paid for repairs. 5 years later I checked the car fax records for the car, no mention of major accident…. I don’t trust car fax at all.
I had almost $10k in rear end damage on a car. It was repaired by a body shop owned by a dealer. The Carfax simply listed the date the repairs were completed, the mileage, and "vehicle serviced." There is ZERO obligation for any body shop or mechanic to report accurate information to Carfax, or even report at all. In fact it's in the best interest of dealer-affiliated body shops to NOT report accident damage, as it will only harm the sale price or result in an otherwise good late model car being sent to auction if the car later ends up on their lot.

Man, live and learn. And stay away from those small dealers. They buy auction vehicles that are wrecked, the accident hasn't shown up on Carfax report yet, fix the body work as cheaply as possible, and leave frame\structure damage hidden. Repaint it and turn around and sell a vehicle that was either wrecked badly, stolen, or flooded for cost just cheap enough to get inquiries about it but not red flagged. I know so many people that also do this at their homes. They sell a dozen cars a year and act like they are the owner. But title is always from another state.
If a dealership wont let you test drive a vehicle, walk away immediately.
A local used car dealer that sells nicer high end cars wouldn’t let me test drive a car until I sat down and negotiated a purchase price BEFORE I drove it. I pulled up in a BMW and was looking at a $55k used car. I couldn’t believe that is their policy. I said why do I want to negotiate a price on a car I’m not even sure I would want to buy unless I enjoyed the driving experience. The owner even called me after I left a negative review.

It's only there to give the allusion the car has been taken care of. However I will say it did show a car I was looking at had an odometer roll back.

Just get a used BMW Z4 and put on Toyota badges. Cheaper and you won't have to go $57,000 in debt.

700 a month isn't bad . Common contact terms are 60 and 72 months. 700 x 60 = 42,000

@@TheEmmanuel426 the last two cars I bought were $15k or less and under 40k miles. To each their own though I guess
When I first expressed interest in my Supra, the agent handed me the key without even taking any of my info. Drove it on the freeway, in the streets, and did some hard braking and accelerations. Took it back to the dealership, and that is when we started talking. Nowadays, we should be hella skeptical about everything, especially a dealer who doesn't want you to take it for a spin.
Ever heard of a break in period? Im glad you purchased the one you test drove so no one has to deal with the O-Rings later in life

That statement alone shows the Lawyer is an idiot..

not to mention when buying the car the dealer was unusually friendly about it

You are looking to buy a car that is rated 1.5 stars out of 5. The only thing on the planet that can help you is when buying it new you will have a warranty. That was your mistake. Also don't forget the carfax, or run the vin if a carfax isn't possible.

Take a lesson from him. Purchase a vehicle new or if you’re unable to purchase outright, continue to save to do so or put a large potion on down payment down and have the security of knowing that you’re owner number 1 and anything that malfunctioned that it’ll be under warranty.
Always take it to a mechanic of your choosing before and look at their ob2 for codes (buy an ob2 reader) … make sure it shifts good, look under the radiator/oil cap to see if there is sludge; steer the steering wheel all the way to the right and left and hold it for a few seconds to see if it makes a whine noise; listen to the engine to see if it sounds weird or not… look at the exhaust smoke, if it’s super white or blue and billowing out … if anything is wrong or they don’t let you take it to a mechanic you immediately WALK, no haggling, WALK, on to the next car…. Also, make sure it has a clean car fax and that the odometer miles on the car match with the cars interior/exterior “beauty”… be safe. This is the best advice on buying a new car you’ll probably get.
