This was do good so perfect for what I was looking for. I recently brought the garmin 530 and have been slowly getting to grips with it. I needed help planning routes and sending them too the unit so this was perfect.very well explained and better than every other video I watched on you tube so well done
Good video! One important tip I've discovered - Don't drop a waypoint directly on an intersection, instead click just prior to the intersection or after the intersection in your next direction of travel. I've seen many routes where a right turn was intended, but instead the Garmin would tell you to proceed through the intersection, followed by an immediate U-turn, followed by a left turn! This was because someone got careless and clicked sloppily "in the vicinity of" the intersection.
I’ve not had any problems like that and pretty much always use the same method. The only problem I have encountered is on a route with a lot of close turns, say in a built up area. The Garmin doesn’t seem to be able to keep up at times. It does it with me at two particular locations I go through.
Really helpful as I was stuck on how to create a custom course. I didn't realise you had to keep clicking on points until the end. I have found on a loop that Garmin creates itself, it wants me to cycle on dangerous A roads.
This was a really good video and it helped me out a lot, so thank you loads for that, however you did say to check the route after garmin has found a round trip for you but you did not say how to correct it if something was wrong, it would be great if you could elaborate on this.
Thanks for the video however, that works for a loop but it doesn't when I want to go to a certain destination, then come back on the same route then go to elsewhere. The blue line does not come back counting the distance. For many trail races, there are sections where runners have to go to a check point then return on the same trail before continuing on another trail so how to record this ?? Thanks for yr explanations
Very well explained, although I have been cycling for 2 years now I am still trying to get my head around the technology, I was kind of hoping that I could pop in my start post code and finish post code and Garmin would create me a course as Strava does. Is this possible with Garmin?
Thank you so much for this video, I have been REALLY struggling. I wonder if you could answer me a question? I have a Garmin edge (just the cheap one). I had a course on ride with gps which I reversed but when I downloaded it to the Garmin it has downloaded the original unchanged route! Any ideas? watching your video it might be easier to redo the route using Connect but any advise would be great. Thanks again. Lorna
hi. the garmin segments don't work for me during course ride. I m talking about segments created on garmin connect,. when i ride without a course i see the segments. why is that ?

Smashing! I'm new to Garmin, so I found this a very well explained tutorial to create routes. Thanks for posting.
No worries, things have changed a bit since I made that. Going to have to do an update. Just done one for HIIT though.

Well explained thanks. Sounds like you’re a Lancashire lad. Hoping to do the UK Ironman at Bolton again 2021. Great place!! 😊
Really good explanation. Thanks Andy
Thanks 🙏
Thank you very straightforward and understandable.

Yes, remember to creat more points than less and still pay attention to where it’s sending you. Take extra care at junctions and roundabouts.
Thanks Andy, very clear . Let us know if you bump into Peter Kay or Paddy on your routes !
Really god clear concise video many thanks Alan
Great video, really clear instructions. Thanks!
Thanks 🙏
Very helpful. And with the accent it was like having Jamie Tart from Ted Lasso help me set up my Garmin…
Thanks 😂😂

Cool. This may be better than Basecamp.
This has suddenly become much clearer after watching this.
All I want now is a garmin, any thoughts of a decent one guys.

I don't find Garmin particularly intuitive, so liked the simplicity of presentation. Haven't put it to the test yet - - -
can you tell me, how to import and export track file with course points included?
Thankyou mate, really well described :)
Great video. Thanks!
very helpful. Thanks for making this video
How do you delete a route 10:02
Select the route as if you’re going to do it. Go into options/settings for the route and scroll to delete.
Great video, really helpful thank you 👍
Nice tutorial ! Thank you for sharing

You made it easy!!! Much 🙏 😊!!!

I’m not sure, I’ll have a look into that
So you don't use Garmin Explore?
Sometimes I do, but I also like to create routes.
Very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Good advice to check your route. Can't be bothered? Then don't complain later.
This is amazing. Thank you so much.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks chap!
Thank you for this. Was using an actual paper map before this 😂
