    Yes, I use the course feature and used it just yesterday. A problem I have with it is that it often has trouble following and creating a course on urban trails but instead will route you onto a ROAD & follow a much longer route to get to the path. This frequently happens when trying to map a course in a city, then entering a park area that has trails & paths that are SHOWN in the Garmin course map but won't route to a spot on the path.
    I have switched from FOLLOW Roads to POPULAR routes and finally giving up & used the FREEHAND routing option. This requires constant UNDOING, re-trying; UNDOING, switching routing options, and repeating.
    This is not unique to Garmin Courses. This happens on MAP MY RUN too
    But all in all , I like it with the aforementioned limitation

      @@ChaseTheSummitFollow-up question: is it possible to automatically create a route given starting point and distance (for example I want a 10k route starting from my home)? And if so, does Garmin put variation in the generated courses or is it always the same course? EDIT: Yes (answering my own question for future reference and other people). When creating a route, you have routing options (default at custom), which you can set to automatic. Enter distance and desired direction, select start point on the map: voila you have a route. Don't like it? Click refresh for a different result. Works like a charm :)

    Excellent summary. I have tried Garmin's course builder for cycling routes but it doen't zoom in to the details I can get with RideWithGPS. I have a subscription to RWGPS so I get the best of it and I'm just use to working with it. It does get a bit more difficult, for me anyway, to send the course to the watch but easy peazy sending to the Edge 830. Another problem I encountered though if if I use the watch and the 830 while I do the course it will report both rides and show that I did double rides that day. I have to delete one of those rides to keep things on the up and up in my history.

    I don't really use the course builder, or at least not to build courses with. I think it is a brilliant tool for hiking, and for trail running though, and I will pop into the course builder occasionally to check e.g. distances or more likely elevation data if I am altering some of my existing running routes. Most of the time I must admit I just go to the old tried and tested routes that I've been doing for years, but when it gets too boring I do look for alternate loops or routes. I hadn't noticed any changes to the course builder, but I probably don't use it often enough to notice unless it is really big changes.

    Super useful video. I’m reaching out the Garmin ecosystem for a while and it’s hard to get some useful information. Especially when you can’t get your hands on to try out the software. Im coming from a Apple Watch ultra and I’m tired to check out different running apps to match my running specs. Although I find the Garmin graphic style horrible, I will skip to Garmin soon I f Apple does not come up with a usable (all in one) sport-app like Garmin offers. Thanks again mate for the deep insight. It helps me quite a lot.
    PS: how does the sync works (especially in the field) without wlan etc? Do you need your mobile fore syncing do to Bluetooth?

    Really useful video. Have you by any chance compared the Suunto builder with Garmins? I am on my way, very likely, to switch from Suunto to Garmin. Have come to the conclusion that Suuntos route builder is perhaps the only feature I will be missing. Very underated feature, much better heatmaps than Garmin. At least where I live. Also finds "hidden" tracks that Garmin never seems to find.
    Anyway... Garmin definitely has it upsides.

    Dave, do you have an experience with routes where the line crosses itself (like a shape of an 8) or you have to do a section 2x etc.? We have a local forum where some ultrarunner complain that the navigation of those tracks fail on the watch. The watch tries to just take you along the wrong route where the line crosses and even screws up the climbs calculation etc etc. It drives them mad and we don't know what is causing this.
    The new feature you're showing is cool but I do not think this has been the problem.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  ปีที่แล้ว

      It get's a little tricky with those types of routes. The newer watches have gotten better with this though. It's really the older non-mapping watches like the original instinct, or Forerunner's that ran into weird quirks.

    Man, I'm new to the garmin ecosystem and today was my first "bummed" moment. I have a warmup/few km run/cooldown setup in my workouts as well as course. I went to the run workout and starting running only to see that it wasn't tracking the gps course. So, I stopped and went into courses and it had me on route. Well, after finishing the workout course it didn't track any of it at all and just considered it a "navigation". Therefore, it didn't show any HR zones, etc. as well as update any of my "activity" for that day. Can anyone help guide me in the direction of how to setup a run workout that's gps guided, and has all of my data screens? Note: I've created the course in the connect app and sent it to my watch of course. I'm going to be moving to a new area this week and it'd be nice to have a gps guided workout run route to follow. Also, quite irritated that after the first 5 days of having the fenix 7 pro it just stopped sleep tracking. So, i've been in a rabbit hole the past 2 days trying to fix it lol.

    Honestly the Garmin maps are unusable, they simply do not show enough detail for trail running. I use Komoot, which also sends courses to my Garmin but the maps are way better.
